Welcome to all, and thank you for joining us. Today, we delve into the last and final portion of the Torah, occurring on the last day of Moshe's life. On this day, Moshe took his last opportunity to bless the Jewish people, delivering his blessings in a beautiful, poetic style.
The Torah belongs to every Jew, regardless of their age or scholarly status. No scholar can claim exclusive rights to the Torah. It is an inheritance, even a newborn can inherit it after just one hour. We, as Jewish people, must apply ourselves to the Torah, embracing it as our shared legacy.
Consider Reuven, the eldest, who committed what the Torah views as a grave sin by moving his bed into his mother Leah's tent. Contrast this with Yehuda, the tribe destined to produce the Davidic dynasty and all Judean kings. In this portion, Moshe Abenu offers a prayer.
Why does a poor man get to offer a prayer? Because he is brokenhearted. Some leaders, descendants of Yehuda, needed this special assistance.
Interestingly, while Moshe blesses every tribe, one tribe is conspicuously absent from these blessings—the tribe of Shimon. Moshe does not bless Shimon, reflecting his displeasure towards this tribe.
