We got some serious talent. Yeah, we got, like, it was good to say some of those boys that are racing, and girls as well, like, Tara Torres is in ski and Rochelle just was so dominant. Obviously, anybody who knows anything about Noosa, it is just, such a heritage race here in Australia. We've, we've had, you know, people set up careers off the back of winning Noosa. So we really want to get down there. Obviously it's only a three hour drive from, from our house.

Rain, to Wollongong? I may have raced there as, like, a junior doing, like, kind of a state series race, but it's not the same course. Yeah. Okay. I know you've been there with the World Cup two years ago or last year.

It was last year. So, obviously, again, this is the 2025 World Triathlon Championships Grand Final. So for those that don't know how this is essentially, the last race of the World Triathlon Championships series, so I believe there was, let's say, seven races in the series.

Yeah, yeah, seven races of the series. The top three go towards your points in the finals also counted. And then also we have our junior and 23 champs.

Yeah. So yeah, the juniors in the under 20 threes. They obviously don't have a series to crown a world champion. They crowned a world champion of the one race. So that it's like like we said, it's a it's a big weekend. All the age groups come on as well. And, there's a lot of hype around that.

To the, there's just seems to be the right time in Australia to be hosting a world championships where we've seen the boom, like we've spoken about it a lot. We've seen the boom, in the age group is saying just as much as the elite.

Series. Yeah. He might laugh about it and say he was he was nothing because he's just he's a modest guy. But he was racing World Series and was one of the best in the world. Yeah. At one point. So you got guys coming out of retirement income and race and age group just a lot of the atmosphere.

So, yeah, we'll I'll do my best to give a bit of a preview. Of course. Preview. Having raced, the World Cup last year. So, it is in the harbor. So they start off, they start off basically walking down the rock shelf into the, into the harbor, into the cove. So I remember last year when we kind of walked down, down the stairs onto the beach.

It is almost like being in a bit of an arena. I remember seeing photos, obviously, you kind of looking out into the into the, harbor where the first cane is just past the wall, and, sand photos back at us on the start line and just, the fans that were wrapped around that.

Was almost sheltered around, around the back of us. And it was when I saw a photo. So that was so cool. It was an Australian Championships at the time, so there was a lot of people there. I can only imagine how many people are going to be there on that Sunday to watch the elite men and women. So yeah, that's going to be that's going to be super exciting.

But actually you start on the beach, run out. It's probably going to be pretty calm in the, in the water. It'll be like a 2 to 3 step dive before they start swimming. And yeah, for the first, for majority of the swim, it will be pretty, pretty calm and sheltered with the, the, rock walls blocking the wind.

But yeah, I think they saw it. We saw it last year when we raced and some of the Aussies saw it as they did a bit of a preview camp there two weeks ago, where as soon as you get past that rock wall, the swell really does start to pick up a little bit. So it's it's only for about 150m, 200m that you actually are amongst that swell.

But that's going to, that's going to shake some people up, I believe, like some of the Europeans who aren't used to.

Yeah, that landlocked countries, landlocked.

Countries that aren't used to the swell. And you know, again, like Australia has that stereotype of what's scary. Sharks waves, killer animals that like, you know, you'll die out. There's, there will be some athletes that I know. It sounds silly, maybe to some Aussies, but when you're not used to it, you know, used to an environment like that, it can be quite daunting.

Yeah. Especially if you're out to sea. You know, all the sharks and whatever you think about when you're out there.

Exactly. So, yeah, they essentially swim around the sea, around those, however many 2 or 3 cans that are out the back, and then swim back in through the rock wall, back to the beach and then do a second lap. When I did it at sprint distance. But yeah, it'll be it'll be a two lap for, for an Olympic distance.

And then essentially run back up onto the bike. And I for me, I think, I think where the races are going to be, I think there's, there's, there's some key points in the race and I think the transition up into the first, maybe 1 to 2km, the bike is going to be a serious make or break if you're a Henry Graff.

Matt Howes, Miguel Hidalgo Vasco, who's most likely going to be in the front pack, same with same with like, a Beth Porter, Cassandra Bogan, you know, who are very good swimmers. Yeah. And they want to establish a bit of a breakaway. You're going to want to really hit this transition in the first part of the bike.

Relatively not not not, you know, we've definitely say longer, like, way highs. Obviously we saw last week that was an incredibly long run. It's not that actually. It's probably relatively short compared to some others. But, athletes are all looking for a breakaway, are going to really show need to show some intent in that first I'd say two kilometers of the black, get on the black and wait.

When we race again, I'm just going off. Previously when when I was there, we were really aggressive in that first two K of the black because you jump on the black, you basically ride down maybe 2 or 300m and you turn left and you go up, Wollongong.

Yeah. So you go up around the lighthouse, which is essentially a few hundred meters of just climbing, and you're doing that within the first 500m of getting out of the swim onto the back to the bike, and you're straight into a client, and up the passage. Exactly. And up the top of the lighthouse area. It is, very exposed.

So again, we saw it last year when the weather wasn't too great. The winds were really high. And I remember, for example, I'm sorry to throw you under the bus here, but Oscar Dot, he was probably only about 5 to 10m off the back of the front pack, and he's more than capable of being a front pack athlete, but almost didn't, didn't have that, I guess, urgency to really drive himself onto the back end because he didn't the the wind kind of blew him around a little bit.

And because we were so aggressive, sort of up and over the crest of the hill, we just rode away from him and he lost.

I feel as if in Wollongong it's, you know, the south coast of Australia has that windy, bad weather reputation. I think if it's bad weather, it's going to make for a better race to be honest, it's kind of split up more, but I think just that wind factor and I think it's going to happen more than what people think.

Yeah, Wollongong is just a windy place, like the times that I've been that it's always been windy or wet.

Yeah, yeah. And like we lot we've seen this year and we've commented on it many times. The breakaways back. Yeah. So people that are aggressive and people that are you know we've got an Emma Jeffcoat that's back. She's racing in the elite women's field. Yeah. Athletes like that are going to take advantage of that. So I think I think we'll definitely see, that aggressive nature, especially in the first couple laps using that, headland, headland exposed, area.

Pretty straightforward, I wouldn't say like it's very aggressive. Turns out they're not very sharp turns. I know there's a part of the course that we did last year that they've taken out. And they were quite aggressive turns, but they've taken that section and, they essentially ride down the hill and ride further into the city. Okay. Than what we did last year.

So that's, that's the key difference. So they've probably taken out the more aggressive, aggressive turns and just kept more of a strength, aspect.

Pretty straight forward. So yeah, the run I believe they go back over the hill as well. So, yeah, essentially the same is the strength.

A very much a strength horse. So, I think athletes will say in the course that they'll know what they're in for. They'll look at the elevation profiles and they'll have a good understanding. So let's just get into the the gender of the weekend. We'll just start going from the juniors up until the late. Yeah, we start with the junior male men. The Aussie is rising. We have Zan spies, Oscar Wooten and Ollie Moxon. So they're our three that we had. We also have to give a shout out to, Jack Caldwell and Jack, Woodbury.

Those two guys, we said that a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, they injured. They would have been key players in this, race way thinking, well.

They're probably like our one and two athlete. I mean, I know Zanzibar has got the automatic, automatic spot over Jack Woodbury, but we, you know, just saying what Jack wood has been able to do this season. He's got a European Jack Conti win. So we know the pedigree of of both Jack's and again I was actually speaking to Jack Wells coach on the weekend James Sweeney and we bought we both had the same opinion as, as each other.

So we've done a bit of research into the ones to watch. Within the junior men, obviously juniors, it's a lot harder to find who's coming off where they're from. We obviously have a finger on the pulse in Australia. We see them racing, but over in Europe it's a bit harder for us to say so we've done a bit of research and there's actually a fair few contenders have won some, Euro Junior Cups this year.

Yeah. And a lot of them are French. The French have a really strong team. Right.

Really good talent. We saw it in, we even saw it in the Rome world Cup last week. Like that. Like the left over guys that they have racing Wollongong are still some of the best guys in the world. You put them on a World Series start. Listen, they're still phenomenal.

And then we have a American. Obviously we had the hype of race venison as a, American junior, but Isaac Lampert, he's got €2 podiums this year. So I think those, those four boys are in some form, especially in Europe, where you probably say the most difficult racing. Yeah. So I think those guys will be the ones to watch, especially those French guys.

Like, they're going to swim and ride pretty hard, and they look as if they can all run pretty well.

And we've seen racing in the past, the, the French athletes and especially European teams to come. Like it's easy for them obviously to go to a European world champs, but they're only sending you if you're a very good if you're a podium chance. So because coming to Australia is such a long way to travel for those European countries, and most of the time the national federation will pay for you to, to be over here.

So they're not they're not sending you unless you, you know, you're a good chance to do something for the, for the nation. So I think, yeah, any athlete that's really from Europe, you're, you're, you're in fine form and you're going to be fighting for a podium.

It's tough because it's it's juniors. It's juniors. And like you said before, you could have a guy that's ranked 50th win this race. Because the Aussies are always going to have high rankings because of our Oceania points. Points score. So Aussies and Kiwis are always going to have high ranking. Same with the Americans. But yeah, it's I struggle to see any, breakaways.
