Part 1
Kainalu – Ginseng Hourglass
GHEDI & AJ Abdullah – what u like
Young Winona – Red Dress
JW Francis – I Wanna Be Your Basketball
habe - nothing
Cannons – Goodbye
Joesef – It’s Been A Little Heavy Lately

Facts
Kainalu – Ginseng Hourglass
- Out of Madison, WI this is the solo project of Trent Prall.
- This is the title track to Kainalu’s debut album, which dropped over the weekend of November 5. We’d basically played every teaser single to this LP previously, and Kainalu it must be admitted is fast becoming a big-time favorite on the show.
GHEDI & AJ Abdullah – what u like
- Interesting team-up here and it seems the artists are moving forward a bit more as a team.
- AJ Abdullah is a ukelele player based in Austin and GHEDI is based in LA on the beats.
- Just a lovely, sunny tune here. Perfect if you’re tryin to get your day going in the right direction.
Young Winona – Red Dress
- This one dropped earlier in the year right at the end of March and was a world premeire here on the show.
- The band originally out of NZ now living in LA. Lead singer Cassie Gaffney & her husband Nick form the nexus of the group.
- Cassie says that this tune is simply an ode to one of their favorite 90’s groups Elastica, which, if you’re familiar with the sound and the look, is pretty much spot on here.
- Big up as always to Amber and Alex of Broken Baby and Poor Man Records. <3

JW Francis – I Wanna Be Your Basketball
- With last year being an awesome coming-out party, featuring the great LP WANDERKID, our artist is ready to surprise us with more.
- There’s a whole new album ready to run at the start of 2023: Dream House. As a preview of the upcoming LP, Francis has shared his latest single, the catchy and positively weird ‘I Wanna Be Your Basketball’.
- Francis explains, The song is about a feeling I’ve been singing a lot about lately – the feeling of wanting to break out and be something else,”

habe - nothing
- This is a new artist to me, and is the moniker of New York City based singer , songwriter, and producer Max Haberman.
- Haberman has been doing his thing under this moniker since 2017, releasing a debut EP in 2019 called What Did You Say? If you liked that and wanna hear more.
Cannons – Goodbye
- This is a veteran dance music and future funk outfit based in LA.
- Their latest album Fever Dream dropped April 1 (no foolin), and it’s definitely worth catching in full if you dug that.
Joesef – It’s Been A Little Heavy Lately
- This is Glasglow’s own Joesef, that’s J, O, E, sef. After making his debut in 2019 he’s quickly grown a massive fanbase for his unflinching takes on life’s reality and brilliant beats.
- This song is actually part of the artist’s debut album, which just dropped last Friday, called Permanent Damage.

Part 2
almost monday - cough drops
boy pablo - Be Mine
Alvvays - After the Earthquake
Wet Leg – Ur Mum
We Are The Night - Gold
Vaundy - Soumatou
Vaundy – Odoriko

Facts
almost monday - cough drops
- California based Indie pop band almost monday, I believe, have been doing VERY well this year. With their catchy sound the band's existence caught attention like wildfire.
- For example, after I shared their summer single sunburn here at GFN, I heard the song again at a shop downtown. Then as time passed, the single became a summer treat in Korea!
- Gotta say almost monday knows what they're doing!

boy pablo - Be Mine
- Boy Pablo is the indie pop music project of Chilean–Norwegian singer songwriter Nicolas Muñoz. In the recording studio, boy pablo writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music.
- Having reached over 190 million streams this year, Boy Pablo is doing Oh So well and deserves to do so.
- Be Mine is a single released back in January; a cute cheeky love song to catch your interest's eye.

Alvvays - After the Earthquake
- Our favie fave fave Toronto band, alvvays shared their third album, Blue Rev, this year. It is a triumph of power pop; a densely layered, witty, and beautiful record that sets a new benchmark for the genre.
- Despite the powerful new twist the album gives than their usual dreamy vibes, people all around are appreciating their sound more and more as time goes by.
- Personally, the album may not be my favorite of them, but nonetheless is a neat one.

Wet Leg – Ur Mum
- Having discovered Wet Leg this year, the British indie rock band have stayed as an interest of mine. With many of their song titles being quite risqué and their sound never missing a beat, so uplifting and rockin', you can say I am absolutely in awe of wet leg.
- Angelica is roughly about feeling major anxiety in a party, a track I think everyone can relate to. I definitely can.

We Are The Night - Gold
- Korean indie band We Are The Night has really shown their realistic dark side this year. With their quite depressing EP, Fly, Avoid, Love The Future, released back in fall, I felt oddly comfortable listening to their music with their nice sound and sad but relatable lyrics.
- My personal pick, Gold is about the empty pleasure of food and entertainment. You push yourself so much that even the Simplest things can't satisfy what you're missing.

Vaundy - Soumatou
Vaundy - Odoriko
- Age 22, Japanese Singer Songwriter Vaundy, which I just learned that they are pronounced 바운디, is a university student and full time artist. I first listened to them this past summer and immediately fell in love.
- With songs like Odoriko and my personal pick Soumatou reaching new heights all over social media, I believe everyone should press repeat on Vaundy.

Part 3
Tuesday Beach Club - MARY
The Rose - Sour
OVAN - Cold World
Zitten - Summer Night
Peach Tree Rascals - C'est La Vie
Milky Chance – Stolen Dance
Milky Chance – Troubled Man

Facts
Tuesday Beach Club – MARY
- South Korean Indie bedroom pop band Tuesday Beach Club debuted their first self titled EP this past November.
- The EP is an interpretation of the band's image of all the beaches that everyone and anyone have made in their own worlds. The end goal for the band is to share their idea of utopia with their distinctive sound and to also invite all to their own getaway beach.

The Rose - Sour
- An independent rock band from South Korea, The Rose released their first album, HEAL, after 3 years of silence.
- Underlying the motto, music can heal, as their base, the band shares their sound to find peace. They hope their listeners would heal their scars with the band's sound.
- Sour is a message saying we should remind ourselves to appreciate and enjoy what we love around us.
- A message I think is very important to everyone.

OVAN - Cold World (망해 간다니까)
● OVAN is a South Korean Singer Songwriter who first had his name known through a nationally broadcasted hip-hop contest and despite trying out as a rapper, it seems the artist found more interest in other genres.
● Ovan's 9th track Cold World, from his newest album, star, is a thought of relationships and just living through life; it is an honest and expressive thought of how the world is cold.
● I heavily relate to the lyrics and the song itself is upbeat enough to dance to.
● Hence, a neat track

Zitten - Summer Night
- Zitten (짙은) is a South Korean singer-songwriter who has gained the nickname “Honey Voice” because of his soothing vocals. I've listened to 짙은 since highschool, and I can definitely agree with the nickname.
- This year, we got to hear his single Summer Night, which was apparently a bit out of the ordinary. The artist isn't a big writer in trend of the seasons, but this past summer he felt to share his own happiness as an escape from the heat.
- Gotta say this song really did make me feel much cooler

Peach Tree Rascals - C'est La Vie
- Peach Tree Rascals are a collective, dedicated to collaboration and community. With most of the members being second generation Americans, they quickly realized a deep, natural connection with one another, and grew into a single, harmonious unit.
- They've reached the masses, having their most popular song, Mariposa, streaming over 300M online. Despite debuting their first album last year, the band is thriving, and I believe will continue to do so.

Milky Chance – Stolen Dance
Milky Chance – Troubled Man
- German duo Milky Chance dropped their newest mixtape, Trip Tape II this past fall. Trip Tape II follows on the heels of last year’s surprise mixtape, Trip Tape, which amassed more than 55 million streams! Since the release of trip tape 2, it's already hitting over 6 million.

Part 4
Sleepy Soul - Birch Baby
Surfaces - It Only Takes Two
Pale Jay & Okonski – By The Lake
The Poles - Space
Mitski - Love Me More
Sarah Kinsley - Cypress
Letting Up Despite Great Faults - She Spins

Facts
Sleepy Soul - Birch Baby
- Illinois based indie pop band Sleepy Soul is a definite favorite and an amazing find of mine this year. Their music blends infectious vocals, dreamy synths, and swaying guitars perfectly.
- The band released a 9 track EP, Apricot Dreams, this past fall. It themes off of sweet young love, a topic that shapes just right with their angelic sound.
- Birch Baby is a song that I listen to religiously.

Surfaces - It Only Takes Two
- Texas based indie pop duo Surfaces released their fifth album, Hidden Youth this past fall. Since their debut way back when, the pair has amassed over 11.4 billion streams and 10.7 million monthly online listeners, which includes myself.
- My personal pick, It Only Takes Two is one of the funkiest, upbeat and most harmonic tracks of the album. Anytime I want to feel better, it's a song I press play on.

Pale Jay & Okonski – By The Lake
- The new single "By The Lake" officially announces two new artists to the ever-expanding Colemine universe: Vocalist and producer, Pale Jay, and Steve Okonksi (as Okonski) of Durand Jones and the Indications.
- The lyrics come from a conversation that Pale Jay had recently with a close friend who was pondering moving to a new city to pursue a budding love affair, but ultimately chose to stay put because they had not overcome an old heart break.

The Poles - Space
- The Poles is an all Korean indie rock band. Through changing their names and members two separate times, they have finally come to The Poles they are today.
- My personal pick, Space is the first track to their debut album The High Tide Club, which was released back in January of this year. Since then, they have been quiet. However I am looking forward to more of The Poles. I don't know how many times I've shared their sound personally outside of radio.

Mitski - Love Me More
- Mitski Miyawaki, known professionally by the mononym Mitski, is a Japanese-born American singer-songwriter that I have obsessed over since I first listened to them at Pitchfork back in College.
- Thankfully Mitski released their sixth studio album, Laura Hell, back in February, and I can't get enough. Love Me More is the artist's reflection on the choice they made to become an artist.
- The album explores themes of isolation that have grown more poignant in light of recent past lockdowns under the pandemic.

Sarah Kinsley - Cypress
- Another Artist I love, Sarah Kinsley is an American singer-songwriter who originally performed classical music in youth orchestras. As they grew older they eventually studied music theory at Columbia University and began to produce their own alt pop music, discovering their own sound.
- When I listen to Sarah Kinsley, I feel my empty sad heart filled with warmth and hope in life. Which is very rare. A definite neat artist to pay attention to.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults – She Spins
- A great band right here, who put out their latest album IV earlier this year.
- Originally formed in LA as a duo, they have since moved to Austin and become a quartet, now a massive part of that incredibly burgeoning music scene in the Texas capital.
