Episode 19: Struggling But Still Called: Trusting God in Difficult Seasons
Opening
Hello and welcome to The Word Woman, where we talk about faith, identity, and purpose for women over 50.
Today’s episode is for the woman who loves God… but maybe you’re questioning your direction, your purpose, or even yourself.
And somewhere deep inside you might be wondering:
“Can God still use me like this?”
We’re talking about Struggling… but still called.
Because the truth is, struggling does not disqualify you from the purpose God placed on your life. (Music)
Foundation Scripture:
Romans 11:29.
“For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance.”
In other words, God doesn’t change His mind about the purpose He placed inside you.
Life will change.
Situations and Circumstances will change.
But God’s calling on your life does not disappear just because the season got hard.
Segment 1: The Lie We Start Believing
Don’t start believing the lies that what you are going through you’re no longer called. That’s a lie from the enemy to play with your mind.
When we read the bible, we see how our brothers and sisters before us struggled before fulfilling their calling.
Joseph was betrayed.
David ran for his life.
Esther faced danger.
Paul endured suffering.
Their struggle didn’t cancel their calling.
In fact, it becomes the place where God shapes our calling.
Segment 2: Why Struggles Make Us Question Our Purpose
There are moments in life, especially after 50, when we begin asking deeper questions.
“Did I miss my purpose?”
“Is it too late for me now?”
“Did life take me off track?”
Those questions could come from some major transitions that have happened in your life. And those transitions can make you feel like your identity disappeared.
I remember when my life was so caught up in my children, everything about me was them, I lived and breathed my kids so much so that when they grew up and moved out to start their own lives I was left to myself not knowing what to do or who I was as a person. My purpose and identity were them. It was a roller coaster ride, and it took me a long time to understand who I was in Christ as a person without them.
I don’t remember how I came across this scripture during that time but Jeremiah 29:11.
“For I know the plans I have for you…”
Man, that scripture gave me life
That means right now… in this season… your life still matters.
God did not say:
“I had plans for you when you were younger.”
He said I have plans for you. And that will never change no matter what.
Segment 3: God Uses Struggling Seasons
One of the things we misunderstand about purpose is this:
We think purpose only shows up in our strongest moments.
But often purpose grows in our weakest ones.
Your struggle can become the place where:
your faith deepens
your compassion grows
your wisdom develops
your voice becomes stronger
Sometimes the very thing you’re walking through right now will become the thing God uses to help someone else later.
2 Corinthians 1:4 says God comforts us so that we can comfort others.
Remember, what you survive will become someone else’s breakthrough.
Segment 4: Your Calling Doesn’t Expire
Let me say something to the woman listening today:
You are not behind.
You are not disqualified.
You are not forgotten.
Your call didn’t disappear just because life became complicated.
In fact, many people begin walking fully in their purpose later in life.
Moses was 80 when God called him to lead.
Sometimes the struggle is preparation.
God is using this season to shape you into the woman who can carry what’s next.
We see the struggle as interruption.
God sees it as part of the process.
Closing Encouragement & Prayer
If you are struggling today, I want you to remember this:
Psalms 139:16 David says to God: You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Struggles didn’t erase his calling, and it won’t for you either.
God still sees you.
God still knows you.
And God has already written your story.
