The Torah is a treasure of divine wisdom, comprising both a written and an oral component. The written law, which includes the Tanakh and the Torah, was penned by Moshe, while the oral law, which encompasses explanations and teachings, was traditionally passed down verbally, safeguarding its dynamic nature.
In the remarkable episode of Moshe on the mountain, we find that for 40 days he was immersed in the divine presence, learning directly from the Source. His face, unbeknownst to him, began to radiate beams of light. This extraordinary phenomenon was a testament to his profound connection with the divine, his humility, and the spiritual elevation he achieved through his unwavering commitment to learning and teaching.
When it comes to the dissemination of Torah knowledge, Rashi sheds light on the methodical approach taken by Moshe. He first taught the elders, ensuring the leaders had a firm grasp of the teachings. Then, he brought these teachings to the wider community. The mask Moshe wore was born out of respect for those around him, who might be overwhelmed by the intense light reflecting his closeness to the divine. Yet, in his role as a teacher and leader, he removed the mask when speaking with the people of Israel, ensuring that nothing stood between the Torah and its recipients.
