PART 1 SONGS
David Bowie – Sound and Vision
Cannons – Hurricane
LORA – bittersweet
Hot Freaks – Lovely
KALI – Anybody Else
Bored At My Grandma’s House – Detox
PART 1 FACTS
David Bowie – Sound and Vision
- Opener right there off David Bowie’s “Low” from 1977.
- Much later in his storied career than the history highlight for today, Prince Paolo. It was on this date in 1965 that a young David Jones made his TV debut with his band at the time, The Manish Boys.
- Obviously, Bowie made terrible decisions later in changing his name and leaving the world-famous Manish Boys outfit for a solo gig, but everyone makes mistakes.
- What’s hilarious here is the British show he appeared on was called Gadzooks! What’s even funnier is the show was rebranded to this from The Beat Room, which makes you think they were trying to get cancelled or something.
Cannons – Hurricane
- This is an incredible trio out of LA that have been around since 2013.
- From there they’ve generated tens of millions of streams totally independently, with songs getting licensed to several films and TV shows along the way.
- This is another banger. A really great new tune just out this weekend from Cannons.
LORA – bittersweet
- Not to be confused with Laura Petrescu, the Romanian fashion model, singer, and do-it-all media darling now 39 years of age.
- It seems that this LORA is from Australia and is 22 years old, as that’s all it says on her bio, literally 2-2.
Hot Freaks – Lovely
- So, this was a band from Minneapolis that broke up in 2015. They were pretty obscure outside the local scene.
- However, last year one of their old songs called Puppy Princess went viral on tiktok, and apparently this has started a label feeding frenzy. And now…lo and behold, this song just dropped this past Friday.
KALI – Anybody Else
- So, for those unfamiliar last year KALI put out their debut EP Circles, and the artist is only 17.
- Seriously, the songs just get better & better as time goes on. The good news is that this is the lead single to an upcoming still unnamed album.
Bored At My Grandma’s House – Detox
- This is the name under which the also interestingly named Amber Strawbridge plies her trade. She's become known for dreamy indie/shoegaze type stuff and her latest single has been made in tandem with producer Alex Greaves (bdrmm, Working Mens Club). It's about things changing and feeling confused.

PART 2 SONGS
Henny and Lance Nelson - Wanna Dance
Loverground - How U Feel
Vicky Farewell - Kakashi (All of the Time)
SALES - Moving By Backwards
Mani Orrason – Coffin
Limon Limon - Weird Vibes
PART 2 FACTS
Henny and Lance Nelson - Wanna Dance
- Henry is the moniker of producer, Henry Elkind and his latest features rapper, Lance Nelson. This is the third collaboration between the two artists. Their other singles are also really good so I think these guys should really consider releasing an album or EP together.
- The track is a bouncy and infectious house tune, and I think Lance’s vocals add even more catchiness to the tune.
- Henry says that this song came organically, while hanging out in his bedroom studio, and they finished it in just 30 minutes. Pretty impressive for such a solid club tune. It is definitely stuck in my head.
Loverground - How U Feel
- I feel like it has been a while since I’ve played a tune from one of our favorite labels. Of course, I’m talking about Nice Guys, and tonight we have a brand-new release from Loverground.
- Loverground is a Franco-Argentinian producer and “How U Feel” is the first single from his forthcoming second EP, which will be entitled ‘My Love is True’.
- A lot of people may think that this song is about a lover or friend but it is actually about connecting with your true-self and surrendering to it, and letting it guide you.
Vicky Farewell - Kakashi (All of the Time)
- I’m really feeling this tune. Vicky Farewell is an Orange Country native and she is a classically-trained pianist, songwriter, producer, and of course, vocalist.
- She says that this song was one of the most fun songs she’s ever made. The reason is that she is a little embarrassed to admit that it is a love song to Kakashi Hatake, who is a fictional character from the Japanese anime, Naruto.
- Don’t be embarrassed Vicky, I like anime too. Anyway, her new album, Sweet Company, is scheduled for release on April 8th so be on the lookout for that.
SALES - Moving By Backwards
- First, I must say, great band name. I mean, who doesn’t like sales, right? I definitely love sales and I think this song is a good one.
- SALES is a duo from Orlando, Florida and they became popular via Tik Tok. Interestingly, one of their songs from 2016, “Pope is a Rockstar” became a huge hit on the app and ended up being the 82nd most streamed song in the world this past December.
- It just goes to show that you should never give up. I think it pretty impressive that a song can get little or no attention for 5 years and then suddenly blow up because of an app. Very impressive stuff.
Mani Orrason – Coffin
- Mani Orrason is an artist from Iceland and “Coffin” is his first single of 2022.
- He says that the track was written at a point in his life where new opportunities were on the horizon. This meant that he had to make some important decisions about which avenue to pursue next.
- The opportunities were related to going all in and giving the musician life a chance. He says that he’s always wanted to be a rockstar. He’s always been obsessed with the idea of being larger than life so he deiced to give it a go for real. Well wishes to you on the journey Mani!
Limon Limon - Weird Vibes
- I was happy to see this song pop up on my feed. We’ve played a lot of Limon Limon on the show in the past couple of years but I feel like we haven’t played them in a while.
- Limon Limon is a duo from LA and their new song, “Weird Vibes” is all about getting weird vibes.
- The track is upbeat and in terms of songwriting, it is straightforward and very solid. It is another strong entry from this consistently good LA duo.
PART 3 SONGS
Charles Watson – Beauty Contest
Grocer – Pick a Way
Charles Fauna – Ciao
Ivery - Believer
Jessica Luise - Middle Of June
Operation Ivan - A Spoonful Of Sugar
PART 3 FACTS
Charles Watson – Beauty Contest
- Charles Watson is a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who is based in London. He is also a member of the indie duo Slow Club.
- Anyway, Charles is getting set to release his sophomore album. The album is entitled YES, and it will come out on April 29th via Moshi Moshi Records.
- I think his new offering is a very tasty bit of indie rock music. It’s groovy, fast-paced, and I think the hooks are quite catchy as well. I’m definitely looking forward to the coming sophomore album, I think it’s going to be really good.
Grocer – Pick a Way
- We stayed in the indie rock genre with Grocer’s new single. That’s a great band name by the way, Grocer, I like that.
- The band is from Philly, they are a quartet and their latest comes to us via Grind Select. Their forthcoming album, which will also come via Grind Select is entitled Numbers Game and it is due out on May 6th.
- Regarding the song, the band had a lot to say. They say that the song is an attempt to try and understand toxic masculinity in general and also specifically during the insurrection at the Capitol. Who could forget that trainwreck eh Danno?
Charles Fauna – Ciao
- Charles Fauna is an artist originally from LA but who is currently based in Brooklyn. Impressively, he writes, records, produces, and performs all his music all by himself.
- I say impressively because I've checked out his other tracks and all of them are really quite good and very worthy of exploration.
- The song is cleverly called “Ciao” because it is about saying goodbye to fear and doubt and hello to optimism and hope. Ciao of course can mean both hello and goodbye so I thought that was pretty slick of Charles to do.
Ivery – Believer
- Ivery is the moniker of Austrian artist Verena Koppendorfer.
- “Believer” is a really pleasing track to listen to. It is a mix of indie-pop and folk, with a bit of a 90s feel to it.
- About the song, Ivery describes it as a song about missing someone deeply and dealing with the inner conflict related to that. She explains that sometimes we allow ourselves to believe in something to make the pain of missing someone more bearable.
- I think a lot of people can relate to that sentiment for sure.
Jessica Luise - Middle Of June
- Jessica Luise is an artist from Manchester and “Middle of June” is her latest release.
- She’s got a smooth voice and I like the instrumentation of this track as well.
- She says that it is the first song she has released that is truly about the happiness of falling in love. It’s about just appreciating the person you are in love with and enjoying the present without worrying about the past or the future. I think this is a fantastic track for sure.
Operation Ivan - A Spoonful Of Sugar
- We are going to keep the good vibes going to close out part 3 of tonight’s playlist with Operation Ivan’s newest, “A Spoonful of Sugar”. This track is indeed sweet and it just makes me feel good.
- Operation Ivan is the solo project of British singer-songwriter Conor Clements, who is a member of rising post punk band Hallan.
- “A Spoonful of Sugar” is the lead single and title track for his forthcoming new 4-track EP. This song definitely has a 60s feel to it that I really enjoy. It’s just a charming and heartfelt song and I am looking forward to more releases from that EP.
PART 4 SONGS
Hanna Rua – Tears On Your Pillow
Judah & The Lion – Take a Walk
Sarah Johnsone - Dont Wanna Be Your Girl
Bo Milli - At The Wheel
5SOS - COMPLETE MESS
Lo Moon - Expectations
PART 4 FACTS
Hanna Rua – Tears on Your Pillow
- Hanna Rua is a fast-rising artist on the synth-wave scene. She is currently based in the UK but this singer-songwriter is originally from Sweden.
- “Tears on Your Pillow” is her second single via Aztec Records, her first was “Don’t Cut Your Angels.”
- About this new offering, Hanna says that it is a song about unfulfilled dreams and disappointments. Even though things don’t always turn out the way you intend, the message of the song is to keep the faith, keep going, and just believe that brighter days are on the way.
Judah & The Lion – Take a Walk
- We stayed with the uplifting vibes with a new track from Judah & The Lion
- Judah & The Lion are an alternative duo from Nashville. The duo is comprised of Judah Akers and Brian Macdonald.
- They say that this song was a way for them to reclaim some of the joy that can be hard to come by these days. I have no idea what they are talking about there... anyway, they hope that this song doesn’t come off as being positive just for the sake of being positive.
- I think they hit the mark, the song sounds genuinely uplifting and hopeful and I’m looking forward to hearing what else they come up with.
Sarah Johnsone - Dont Wanna Be Your Girl
- Sarah Johnsone is from the UK and her new song “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl” is a little different than her usual releases.
- Her lyrics and songs tend to lean into the somber side but this new single, is booming and it just sounds “big” if you know what I mean.
- The guitars are great but what really caught my ear was all the percussion. She says that the song is about falling in love with someone who you know is not good for you, but you fall for them anyway.
Bo Milli - At The Wheel
- When I first read the artist's name, I honestly thought Bo Milli might be a rapper or something.
- Bo Milli is obviously not a rapper though; she is a singer-songwriter from Norway and “At the Wheel” is her debut single.
- Her first offering is all about the sensation of reaching adulthood, and feeling utterly powerless while dealing with all of life’s worries. I think she has a great sound so I’ll definitely be on the lookout for a follow up single in the coming weeks.
5SOS - COMPLETE MESS
- If you are wondering about the band’s name, 5SOS stands for 5 Seconds of Summer. They are a quartet from the land of Oz and “Complete Mess” is their newest single.
- It is our first taste of their forthcoming 5th studio album. No official dates set yet, and the album is still untitled at the moment.
- Even though they already have 4 previous albums under their belt, this song marks the first song they’ve made that was entirely written and produced by this foursome.
Lo Moon – Expectations
- The final quarter of tonight’s show has had a bit of a rock edge to it so I thought I would just complete to pattern with this new Lo Moon track.
- Lo Moon is a quartet from LA and they are a band that has recently became independent. What I mean is that they are no longer singed to a major label and have decided to go their own way.
- Kind of a weird story there. They had an album out in 2018 and their previous label didn’t push it at all. They performed the album, over 70 shows, but the album was only available on vinyl and you had to buy it at the merch tables from one of their shows.
- Anyway, props to the band for getting out of that sad situation and best of luck to you guys going forward.
