Former Rhema Bible Church co-pastor Craig W. Hagin has been convicted of disturbing the peace in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, after pleading no contest to two misdemeanor counts tied to operating his residence as a kennel where animals were neglected. The conviction comes just over three months after Hagin and his estranged wife, Mia Hagin, were arrested on animal cruelty allegations; charges against Mia were later dropped, while Craig had originally faced two felony counts. Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said, “cruelty and malicious intent were not present,” but “elements of neglect were present,” adding, “the ramifications for Pastor Hagin have been significant.” Hagin was ordered to pay fines and complete an animal cruelty prevention program. Meanwhile, church founder Kenneth W. Hagin said his son had been living a “double life,” calling the revelations “shocking and devastating.”

A federal appeals court has struck down Florida’s “Stop WOKE Act” as it applies to public university classrooms, ruling 2 to 1 that the law violates the First Amendment. Writing for the 11th Circuit majority, Judge Britt Grant, joined by Judge Charles Wilson, called the measure “a breathtaking assertion of power to ban unpopular ideas from public discourse,” adding, “the First Amendment trusts students to figure it out for themselves.” The law, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2022, was designed to curb ideas such as critical race theory. In dissent, Judge Barbara Lagoa argued “the state’s authority is at its zenith in its public classrooms.” FIRE attorney Greg H. Greubel praised the decision, saying, “Governments cannot censor their way to freedom.”

In Midtown Manhattan, a serious structural emergency forced evacuations after two columns buckled and floors sagged inside the 37-story former Pfizer headquarters at 235 East 42nd Street, now being converted into housing by MetroLoft and David Werner Real Estate. FDNY said crews found “multiple cracks and sagging floors” on the 21st floor, and Chief of Department John Esposito warned, “The building has continued to move since we have been on the scene.” Nearby buildings cleared out included the Episcopal Church Center at 815 Second Avenue, where a spokesperson said staff first sheltered in place, then evacuated “out of an abundance of caution.” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said there had been “no additional movement” since Tuesday morning. Developer Nathan Berman called it a “typical construction mishap,” while union official Michael Piccirillo countered, “It could have been way worse.”

More than two dozen Christian families in Jhulan village, Punjab, fled their homes after mosque loudspeakers accused U.S.-based Pastor Sajeel Robin of sharing content deemed blasphemous toward Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. Human rights advocate Joseph Nayyar said Pastor Robin “frequently posts videos featuring religious debates with Muslims,” and that relatives in the village allegedly shared them on WhatsApp, triggering calls to act against “blasphemous content.” Police in Kot Ladha urged roughly 35 to 40 Christian families to leave for their safety. “Most of the Christian families fled with only the belongings they could carry,” Nayyar said. He added, “The situation could easily have spiraled into violence had the police and local Muslims not intervened.” Families later returned after apologies, local mediation, and a signed statement from clerics “pardoning” relatives, though police say the investigation continues.

South Carolina investigators say a longtime church treasurer is accused of stealing more than $400,000 from her own congregation over nearly seven years. Latrise Latrell Seward, 54, of Lee County, was charged Monday with breach of trust with fraudulent intent involving property valued at $10,000 or more. According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Seward allegedly used funds from Mechanicsville United Methodist Church to make “hundreds of unauthorized personal purchases” totaling $402,655.45 between January 2018 and August 2025. The arrest warrant says, “During an interview with law enforcement, the defendant admitted to making the unauthorized personal purchases,” adding that probable cause came from her statements and a forensic audit. Lifeway Research’s Scott McConnell noted, “Churches run on trust,” which is why financial safeguards remain “an important part of ministry.”

Canadian psychologist and bestselling author Jordan Peterson says his recovery from a prolonged illness remains slow, but he’s now back to writing. In an Instagram update, the 64-year-old said, “My activities are still very limited at the moment. I have been doing some writing, however — thank God,” adding, “I’m so relieved to be once again doing something creative and useful.” Peterson had recently said he was unable to speak publicly and would instead release archived lectures while recovering. His daughter, Mikhaila Fuller, previously revealed he suffered a recurrence of akathisia, along with pneumonia and sepsis, calling the past year “hell” for the family. In the same update, Peterson praised historian Paul Kengor’s course on Marxism, calling him “a truly engaging, creative and witty storyteller and lecturer.”

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming $250 million adaptation of “The Odyssey,” due in U.S. theaters July 17, is already drawing fierce backlash over its casting and creative direction. Early critics have praised the film as “staggering” and a “must-see cinematic event,” but online reaction has been sharply divided, especially over Elliot Page’s role as Sinon and Lupita Nyong’o’s casting as Helen of Troy. Critics on X accused the film of pushing a “dying, immoral agenda,” while Elon Musk blasted Nolan, writing, “Chris Nolan desecrated Homer and groveled on his knees just to meet the woke rules required to win an Oscar. What a worm.” Nyong’o also stirred controversy after saying Homer gave women “very little” perspective in the epic. Nolan, acknowledging the storm, says he is “a little bit nervous,” adding, “it’s the audience who tells us what it is.”
