This episode definitely leaves me wondering what the Visual Basics of 2025 are. I know that “low code” exists, but I don’t hear about kids using those solutions like we did with VB and Delphi back in the day.

Visual Basic was pretty cool. Doesn't everyone who is learning use Python now?

I think most new folks learn JS these days…

I'm talking about kids. When I was a kid I tried to make a PC video game which led me to Visual Basic and then C#. I would be surprised if kids are trying to program web apps

My kids sometimes ask about learning to code, but they don’t actually have much of an interest when I sit them down in front of either an IDE or something like Swift Playground. Sometimes it feels like my generation is the only one that really “got into” computers.

But honestly, the fact that I’m here in my 40’s thinking about how to get my kids into programming is probably illustrative of the problem. When I was a kid, my parents knew nothing about computers. I was forging my own path… and now that path is well-tread.

            What is The Panel?

When it comes to bootstrapping and building software, there's rarely one right answer. We want to dive into the nuance. In every episode, veteran founders Justin Jackson and Brian Casel bring together a panel of sharp minds from the indie tech world to tackle thorny topics – from pricing and product strategy to work-life balance. No gurus, no easy answers – just real conversations we'd normally have behind closed doors.
