ABOUT US: The Story of Dad Tired and how to get connected.
You’re tired.
Not just physically; though yeah, that too.
You’re tired in your bones. In your soul.
Trying to be a steady husband, an intentional dad, a man of God… but deep down, you feel like you’re falling short. Like you’re carrying more than you know how to hold.
Dad Tired is a podcast for men who are ready to stop pretending and start healing.
Not with self-help tips or religious platitudes, but by anchoring their lives in something (and Someone) stronger.
Hosted by Jerrad Lopes, a husband, dad of four, and fellow struggler, this show is a weekly invitation to find rest for your soul, clarity for your calling, and the courage to lead your family well.
Through honest stories, biblical truth, and deep conversations you’ll be reminded:
You’re not alone. You’re not too far gone. And the man you want to be is only found in Jesus.
This isn’t about trying harder.
It’s about coming home.
What's up, guys? I'm Jared Lopes, and you're listening to the Dad Tired podcast where I'm helping everyday families learn how to follow Jesus in everyday life.
Speaker 2:Hey, my name is Jared Lopes and I am the creator of dadtired.com. Thanks for checking out this podcast. I'm guessing that if you found this podcast on maybe the iTunes store or maybe you found us on an Instagram page or Facebook, you click this podcast because you're wondering or I should say you click this episode because you're wondering who is Dad Tired, what is Dad Tired, what's it all about. And so I just want to spend a couple minutes telling you what Dad Tired's all about before you start to dive into some of our other episodes that will be filled with kind of intentional specific content. So anyway, my name is Jared Lopes.
Speaker 2:I am a I've been a pastor for the last eleven years, and I'm which seems crazy to me. I'm I'm 29 years old. I started I got hired in ministry right out of high school, which is freaky to think about, that somebody would give me responsibility over anything, let alone some kind of spiritual responsibility over anybody's life. But by God's grace, I survived, and I've made it eleven years, and that's what I've been doing for the last eleven years is serving in ministry and trying to point people to Jesus. And so that's what Tired is all about.
Speaker 2:The reason that Dad Tired got started was in 2015, happened to be one of the hardest, most miserable years of my life and marriage. And so I was in a dark, dark season. And I was far from my wife. I was far from God. And I literally got on Google and searched help.
Speaker 2:I was looking for help for dads, help for Christian dads, Christian dad resources, Christian husband resources. And the stuff I was finding, I was getting, like, three pages deep into Google search and not finding, anything that seemed to be super relevant. And so I thought, man, there's gotta be more out there. And so I started to compile everything that I had found online into one place on a website. And I thought, alright.
Speaker 2:I'll just give this stuff away. As I there's gotta be other dudes in my and on the same journey as that I'm on, and other dudes that are hurting or maybe in a dark place or maybe fighting for their marriage or whatever. And so I thought I'll just try to make a resource site for them. That turned into a blog. I wrote a blog kind of talking about my journey as a dad and as a husband and some of the struggles that I had had over that last year.
Speaker 2:And as a result of that, within like two days I had received an email from a guy on the East Coast. I'm in Portland, Oregon. Received a guy from the East Coast. I didn't know him, but he said, hey man. I'm so thankful for the site.
Speaker 2:I know you just got started, but I'm really thankful that you're doing this because I need help as a dad and a husband. I have no clue what I'm doing. And that was when I kind of figured that I figured out that, man, there there's probably a lot of guys, who need and want the same kind of resources that I'm looking for. So that is how dad tired got started. That was in the February.
Speaker 2:We were, I launched the official site, the blog, in February 01/02/2016. Since then, we've had tens of thousands of people come through the site. We've had hundreds and hundreds of people subscribe, and it's just it's turning into quite the community. It I'm I'm blown away in many ways at how quickly dad tired has grown. In some ways, I'm not surprised though because I know that there's an actual need for men.
Speaker 2:You're a woman and we've got a lot of women who are following along and who are listening to the podcast, and you are totally welcome. We are glad to have you. But there are a lot of resources for women. If searched for mommy blogs or like mommy help or wife help or whatever, you are going to find tons of resources, but there are very few things out there for us dudes. And so it's turned into quite the community.
Speaker 2:So that's dadtire.com. We do there's kind of two main ways that you can absorb content. One of one of those ways is at the website dadtire.com. You can subscribe on the site and, that'll every time I post something or give out a resource, I give away a lot of stuff. Although, people always think I'm scamming them.
Speaker 2:They're they're always thinking I'm trying to sell something. I'm not I don't make any money off dad tired. I wish I did. But as of today, I don't make any money. And so if I'm giving something away, it's literally just because I think it's cool and I wanna give it away.
Speaker 2:There are no strings attached there. But anyway, I give stuff away. I get I write a lot of stuff and put articles out and point people to resources. So if you wanna be on that, I also have a free ebook. If you, want a free ebook, you can subscribe at dadtire.com and get that free ebook and that's called Step Up 10 Practical Ways to Lead Your Family Towards Jesus.
Speaker 2:That's free if you sign up on dadtire.com. If you want to pay 99¢ for some crazy reason, you don't want something free or you don't want to give me your email address, you can pay 99¢ and go to Amazon and search for that book either under Jared Lopes or Step Up, 10 Practical Ways to Lead Your Family Towards Jesus. So that's a couple ways that you can get that and stay involved. The second way is through this podcast. I update the podcast weekly, and they're usually in conjunction with what's going on on the website.
Speaker 2:So, for example, you will see a post on the website, and they're usually short reads. I try to pack in as much good content in the shortest amount of time as possible on the site so that you can read a blog post in about under ten minutes for sure. And then we come back to the podcast and we kind of dive into that and unpack it in the podcast. Also plan on doing interviews here as well, so you'll wanna keep an eye out for that through other guys and gals who are trying to figure out what it means to follow Jesus. So podcast and site.
Speaker 2:That is the two biggest ways that you can stay connected to what we're doing. Of course we're on every social media. Snapchat, dad. Tired. Instagram, dad.
Speaker 2:Tired. Twitter, dadtired2 because somebody already took dadtired. I don't know who that dude is. Facebook dad tired blog. Now here's the other thing.
Speaker 2:If you stopped listening to all my sales pitch for the last twenty seconds, listen to this. Grab me let me grab your attention again. I have a closed Facebook group for dads and dudes only. So you don't have to be a dad, but dudes only. And this is for guys who are serious about being disciples stepping up as a man.
Speaker 2:I started this just a couple weeks ago. We already have 300 dudes in there who are very seriously trying to be the best men that God's called them to be. So if you wanna be part of that group, if you're a dude and you wanna be part of that group, search dad tired and look under groups, and you will find our group. It's a closed group. Ask to get in.
Speaker 2:I'll look at your Facebook page to make sure for one, you're a dude, and number two, you're not some weird creeper. I know that sounds like judgy and weird. It's not that intense. We just wanna really protect, what's going on in there. Because we have guys who are like confessing sin and sharing about their marriage and trying to step up as a dad, and there's just really honest raw conversations.
Speaker 2:It's amazing the community that is happening in that group. So if you're a dude and you wanna be part of that, if you feel like you don't have very many dudes around you who are taking this stuff seriously as well, then you're gonna wanna come over to that dad tired group on Facebook. We would seriously love to have you. And when you come over and engage, we got a lot of guys sitting on the sideline who are just absorbing all the good stuff, but they haven't like jumped off the bench and started to play. If you come in, come in ready to engage.
Speaker 2:Like tell us your story. Introduce yourself. Tell us about yourself. And, comment on things and get involved. So anyway, that's Dad Tire Nutshell.
Speaker 2:It's just a bunch of it's a resource for a bunch of dudes, families who are serious about trying to follow Jesus. Tagline on Dad Tired is that we're helping everyday families follow Jesus in everyday life. Listen, I'm not gonna over spiritualize things. Things aren't gonna be super deep theological discussions, although I love those. I'm a big fan of solid biblical teaching and solid sound theology, so we will do that.
Speaker 2:But I'm a huge fan of what does that mean practically. And I think Jesus did that really well. He gave amazing, obviously, theology in his teaching, but he made it real, real practical. And so that's what we're getting after. Like, what does it actually mean day to day to follow Jesus?
Speaker 2:So, we would love to have you. I really appreciate you taking the time to sit down and even listen to this introduction. You can come, onto dadtired.com. You can shoot me a message. There are multiple ways to get a hold of me on there.
Speaker 2:You can click the contact page. I should also mention, that if you are having a hard time finding that dadtired community on Facebook, the closed one, come go over to dadtired.com and click the tab community and it'll it'll link you right over to that Facebook page. Anyway, I always do everything in one cut. I try not to do anything edits, whether it's a video, a blog post, a podcast. I wanna be as real as possible.
Speaker 2:So sometimes you'll hear my kids running around in the background. Grandma just took them, that's why you don't hear them right now. We try to keep things super simple and super real and super practical. So anyway, thank you so much. Glad to have you part of the community.
Speaker 2:There are a bunch of other people who are stoked that you're here with us as well. If you have any questions, email me. Go to dadtired.com, shoot me an email. I'd love to meet you. Introduce yourself online.
Speaker 2:But thank you so much. I hope you have a great day. We'll talk to you soon. See you.
