A Podcast more or less about Pickleball
With weather Yeah. And wind. I mean, kills this sport more than any other sport.
Matt:What kind of shoes are these? Bruh.
Jason:I don't know.
Matt:Very interesting very interesting outfit.
Jason:He always comments on my stuff. I don't know.
Matt:Like, are those
Jason:I don't even know, dude. I just have random stuff.
Matt:It's like New Balance and Sketchers made a collab for old people.
Jason:That's the you got a big laugh on that one.
Jason:You got a big laugh on that one.
Matt:Welcome back to another episode of Certified McNasty. I'm your host, Matt Menassy, joined by, as always
Jason:Jason Adler.
Matt:Jason Adler. This is the the birthday episode.
Jason:Happy birthday, Matt. Thanks. '30 three? Four?
Matt:Just turned.
Jason:35. Okay. Cool. Yes. Yesterday was your birthday.
Matt:Yesterday, May 17. We're filming this on May 18.
Jason:How do you feel?
Matt:I feel good. I mean, we went out pretty hard Saturday. We'll talk about that. So I didn't feel crazy in the wake up on my actual birthday. I ended up doing pilates with a friend, Paige.
Matt:That was fun at ten a. M. Had some brunch, and then the rest of the day was a little bit of a hangout until our dinner.
Jason:So I was the first one to show up to dinner.
Matt:You were. We went to the nice guy.
Jason:The p p
Matt:m r. Nostalgic. Love the nice
Jason:We held Beverly Hills area. And literally, like, this is not gonna sound great, but I'm like, so I think I'm the first one here, Matt. And you go, oh, dude. I forgot to tell you. Fuck.
Jason:We canceled. And I'm not even kidding. I believed him. Like, because that is kind of mad ish because he always has so much shit going on. But I would I would never.
Jason:Never. I know. I was like, I would be so pissed. Because I'm all, like, decked out. Right.
Jason:Like, I came here. I got a card for the guy. Like
Matt:was I gonna I was gonna wait a few minutes and let you respond, but I was I was quick on the Yeah.
Jason:Could've let me sweat it out. Oh, yeah. But then what if I'm like, you motherfucking. Like You always do this. Calm down.
Jason:Calm down. I'm joking. You never see what you're gonna do. You you always do this. It's tough sometimes.
Jason:You're not the most, like, communicative when it comes to details. You don't like to be bothered.
Matt:But I don't cancel things that I like. That's fair. If there's a plan, I stick to it. No. If it does get canceled, would tell you.
Jason:Yeah. But I'm talking about you don't like the you don't you don't wanna give details too much. I'm just I'm busting your balls a little bit. Happy birthday, Matt.
Matt:Thanks, man.
Jason:Thanks, god. But you are looking good. You what
Matt:details you need to know. Let's
Jason:go back
Matt:to my party last night.
Jason:Let's do it.
Matt:So at the nice guy, table for eight. Only five of us are there. We have a sixth and then a seventh coming, but we knew five were there. Yeah. And then our table is right there.
Matt:Not the eight p. M. Reservation on Sunday. That's our table. I'm like, yeah, five of us are here.
Matt:The six is on the way. Let us know when the six get here.
Jason:The hostess. These people. Hostess. They didn't want to seat us
Matt:until six people were there.
Jason:I guess 75% of the party or whatever their dumb corporate rule is. So I go over to her and I'm like, hey, so are we able when are we gonna be able to sit? Because it's, like, 08:10 now. We don't know if Kimmelman's coming. Jack's on his way.
Jason:She was looking a little uncomfortable, and I'm like, you know, we might only be six. So do you need our entire party here? And then I could tell she was starting to go, okay, the wheels are turning. Maybe I don't have to follow this code.
Matt:Right. We just need to sit down.
Jason:And then she was like, okay. Oh, so oh, she might only be six. You can sit down. We're like, yeah. Thank you.
Matt:Yeah. Like, go to the orders. Sit down and start our meal.
Jason:Yes. And And standing around,
Matt:like, you
Jason:know, pubs.
Matt:No one was no one it wasn't that type of thing where, like, you're getting drinks at the bar. Sometimes you do that.
Jason:Or it's so busy they don't want a table sitting with people that are waiting to order, like
Matt:Right.
Jason:But there was half the place was empty.
Matt:So sit down and Adam was like, Let's sit down and then Oh, we should put in orders right away. And I'm like, This is weird. He's trying to sit down fast. He's trying to get orders in fast. It's Sunday night.
Matt:The hell does he Do you have a date or something? And he
Jason:goes, well, funny thing you say that is that, you know, I try to meet, you know, maybe someone somewhere.
Matt:And I'm like, oh, you do have a date?
Jason:He's like, he's like, nay. Why do you need this like, well, you gotta have other voices, dude. He's like, listen, ladies. I mean, I I'm gonna I'm gonna What's wrong with you? I'm gonna cancel it.
Jason:I'm gonna cancel it. No. No. Here's the thing. Here's the here's the truth.
Jason:Alright? First off, I like to keep things moving regardless. We're service. We sit down. Like, it's eight it's an 08:00.
Jason:We're sitting in team.
Matt:Such a hurry.
Jason:Listen. We are having a lovely time with you. Let's get the drinks in. Gray, we get drinks in. And now it's like, okay.
Jason:Jack gets their appetizers. But I will say that, yes, at some point, like, in between drinks and appetizers coming, the notion of maybe a first date meeting me there was happening. And I'm like, I wanna be clear. I'm not a total, you know, like, I'm here for you, man. Right.
Jason:I'm here for your birthday. I I don't know. It's just like, look, I'm at this birthday dinner with the nice guy, and I think, yeah, she
Matt:And then so after we had our our chicken parm, you what you actually
Jason:Yeah. Had I gave a third of my chicken parm to Jack because I'm like, shit. Now I got a first baby. Right. Don't want be
Matt:stuffed and gross. Right. And you got the mint? Did you find a mint?
Jason:I found a mint.
Matt:And we all said goodbye on the way out
Jason:to And also, like, she wasn't gonna come I was like, do you wanna meet and She did wave, though. She almost kind of wanted to come over it was like a a goodbye to everybody.
Matt:Did yeah. It was like a what is it called? A procession?
Jason:A funeral procession?
Matt:Yeah. Like, with, like, lines, but not that way.
Jason:Procession? But it is funny.
Matt:Did she say any any of us were memorable on the way out?
Jason:She thought your hair was great.
Matt:Okay. That's all I needed
Jason:to She like her.
Matt:Her hair was great too.
Jason:She's a great hair.
Matt:Everyone said that on the way out. Great. That was, like, the big compliment. But, yeah, Johnny Manzel Johnny Manzel was at the dinner, by the way, not my dinner.
Jason:It was too deep. It was away. No. Wait, are you serious? No, because
Matt:money man
Jason:Joey Rogoff had just told me he was.
Matt:See, you weren't present at dinner because you were thinking about X. We talked about it came up. Okay. One of the big conversations.
Jason:You serious that he that Joey saw him
Matt:at John Barney's. Saw him at Barney's.
Jason:And then nice guy?
Matt:Yep. They were on the same path. No way. Spoke to him at nice guys or Barney's. Like, why didn't you go say something in there?
Matt:Like, it's sick. I have
Jason:to tell you something funny that is not gonna sound great for Joey. But she goes, at one point, she looked over the date and and and she was like, oh, is there she goes, oh, is there a child there? Like, is there oh, you guys I mean, who's in the party? And I'm like, no. It's a mix of people.
Jason:She's like, is there a kid there? And I'm like, oh, I could see from a distance, like, the way look. But I loved I mean, Joey is 25 years old anyway. He's a kid to me.
Matt:26.
Jason:26. About 30.
Matt:To you. I mean, yeah. He's, what, 21 years younger?
Jason:Yeah. It could be his dad. Yeah. For sure.
Matt:Card was fantastic. Jason was the only one that brought a card.
Jason:My kids.
Matt:And his three kids wrote beautiful little messages as well. One about playing paddle with me. The other two just wish me a nice happy birthday. They're great handwriting. They sign their names.
Matt:He has three great children.
Jason:They love Uncle Matt. They were so excited when they saw that card and they all wanted to sign it. So So I
Matt:appreciate that. If they're watching this episode No.
Jason:Well, I hope not.
Matt:Maybe not. No. Show them this part. Skip to this part. You for the thank you for the the letter.
Matt:That was very sweet.
Jason:Very nice of It's an honor to be at the birthday party, to be amongst an exclusive group of people. You know, you're a good dude. We're happy that you had a great birthday. And, you know, those are great moments.
Matt:My week was like crazy because, you know, I've been getting back on court a lot more. Yeah. Just drilling, training, coaching, all
Jason:of that,
Matt:which I've really enjoyed. And then I was shocked, to be honest, because I, you know, after not playing for a while, then doing more of the hosting stuff, I think now getting back into coaching, I think people maybe the perception of what I'm doing is changing a little bit of like, oh, Matt's now back on court again. That Blaine Hovineer, who's 23 in the world in the PPA doubles rankings, very good player, big guy. Mhmm. He texts me.
Matt:He's like, hey, I'm gonna be in town. Do you want to drill? Can you drill a few days?
Jason:Sick.
Matt:So that was cool already. So we got on court Thursday and Friday, back to back days. That's a lot. His parents' home in Encino has a pickleball court, beautiful. Two and a half hours first day, two hours the second day, straight up.
Jason:One on one. One on one.
Matt:That's a lot of lot of drilling.
Jason:Yeah.
Matt:Cross courts down the line. Different. Alright. I'm gonna be off the line. You're gonna be off the line.
Matt:Speed ups, resets, thirds.
Jason:Was he doing anything, proposing anything that you hadn't seen before, or did you guys because I always wonder how many different unique drills can you come up with?
Matt:Correct. There there are things that I've all I I've done before for the most part. Like, there was little things subtle nuances and differences. And I forgot when you're training so much and the quantity of it and you're trying to keep the ball so low and so down and and so disciplined, how much that is on the body.
Jason:Well, yeah.
Matt:And the little adjustment steps for that long, and my my lower back the next morning was
Jason:And playing with someone like that, you're probably, like, not used to all the time, like, that constant repetition of high level good shots versus, like, playing with, you know, good high level rec players or
Matt:For sure.
Jason:Or lessons. Right? So how's the Touille feeling too?
Matt:Touille's feeling a lot better.
Jason:Were you were you doing a lot
Matt:of rules? A lot well, it's interesting. We did so many down the line drills, like, Yeah. No angle Yeah. Straight ahead.
Matt:So that actually forces you in the two e then to, like, less space. It's hard to
Jason:do a two e when you're just going straight ahead.
Matt:Right. Well, in the straight ahead games, the only especially when you're playing a longer guy like a Blaine, you have to then split your half court and make, like, it make it feel like it's a full court. So how can I get him to not touch the ball, which means I need to go I need to go cross court
Jason:a lot?
Matt:Obviously, like shallow cross. Everything needs be crossed. I can spread the court that way as opposed to like trying to beat line and different things. You really have to make it physical. Like for me, I was like, going to stay in points and games as long as I can and not pull the trigger until it's really on my terms.
Matt:So And last thing about like, first of all, he is so committed to his craft. You can tell he's working on a lot of new things in his game. I give him so much credit and the Roscos and all these guys that are really out there daily grinding to be the best they can be because when I was on the sideline with Blaine, I was comfortable just having conversations and wanting to shoot the shit. And he was the guy that is getting me off the bench. Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's grind.
Matt:And his attention to detail and even how he speaks to himself when he makes a mistake or when he wants to up the energy, it's constant.
Jason:But it's positive, right?
Matt:All positive. Yeah. For over two
Jason:to two powers. And he's a hype guy.
Matt:He's keeping himself going. And it's it's it's he's improved his game because of it. He didn't come in as a guy that people thought would be that great. And he's slowly
Jason:gotten better. He's a.
Matt:Yes. And I don't think it's stopping because he really does want to get better. And athletically, he's there physically. He can do it. There are things he can work on in his game.
Matt:In my opinion, I'm sure he has those as well.
Jason:And his partners are getting better too, and that's the sign.
Matt:Yeah. He's gonna get there.
Jason:Well, look, I mean
Matt:So thank you for inviting me in on your world, Blaine. You're our you're our player of the week. I had fun.
Jason:What the final point to the button that what we just talked about, though, is kids. For all those kids listening, the best players in the world are usually the ones that are working the hardest. Ben Johns is not just Ben Johns by chance. He works at it every day. MJ, Kobe, Bird.
Jason:Like, I'm going way back. Yeah. These guys were the first in in the last out of the gym. That's that's just as much of what it is. And usually, that's what the difference is for these guys.
Matt:And I think, like, to talk about the junior stuff, which which is a lot of what I'm doing now. You see these kids, they like to do the the glitz and the glamour and the fancy shots. But, like, a lot of the high level stuff comes from just dirty,
Jason:Dinking. Dinking. I'm gonna
Matt:be in the midcourt and just ten minutes straight of, like, grinding out every single ball. It's not fun. It is not fun.
Jason:You have to do it a thousand times so that you're like, fuck it. I'm gonna do it in a game. And, anyway, yeah, kudos to to you, Blaine, and and the Roscos.
Matt:Good luck to his his MLP team. Think him and Roscoe are the same team.
Jason:Are they?
Matt:Yes. They're gonna be part
Jason:of actually a
Matt:fun really fun to watch.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. We I don't I really don't know the MLP. Yeah. We'll we'll get to
Matt:that next week when we do some study but we did have a good Saturday night.
Jason:Jamie Horowitz.
Matt:From what I remember.
Jason:Yes. Oh my gosh. So we're invited. I think we're probably definitely one seventy nine and one seventy, one eighty. I was January.
Matt:So Jamie Horowitz, CEO, founder, Omaha Productions
Jason:Who we helped with the program. Yep.
Matt:Peyton Manning. I mean, I coached him for the to get ready for it. I don't he didn't coach him.
Jason:I was like, he looked at me as a guy
Matt:that helped. And and then, Heather, we all became very good friends, and then Heather was in on some of the training sessions as well. But anyways, when we beat him in the final, then we he somehow stayed friends with us, even though we beat him in the final of the slam and invited us to his fiftieth birthday party.
Jason:He likes he likes roasting. He likes to be roasted.
Matt:A 180 people on the guest list.
Jason:Yeah. And I was one eighty. I was definitely the last one. Right. Look.
Jason:In Jewish culture, one eighty. Eighteen's good.
Matt:That's very good.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. You're 179. I'm 180.
Matt:What does 179 mean?
Jason:Nothing. Can't be good. That's my point. So we go look. We're like and and he these emails that his assistants were sending.
Matt:Yes. Yeah. Everyone gets their own time.
Jason:When I got When I He was greeting us at the front like it's a wedding. Yes. Okay? There's a bunch of staff. You're eating hors d'oeuvres, and they're grabbing the napkins out of your hand without you even knowing.
Jason:They were on top of everything.
Matt:And they and he had this beautiful logo, JH fifty made just for the party. So every every there was the logo everywhere you turn. The peep the staff was wearing shirts with JH fifty. It was great.
Jason:It was great. And now we got Colin Coward, who's like six three, legit six three. Skip Bayless, one of your favorites. I was like, I'm gonna go I'm gonna go over there and talk to him.
Matt:So I told I told Adler, was like, dude, this is like one of the coolest.
Jason:I'm like, why are you Starstruck right now?
Matt:You've met everyone you've been on. Like, why would you starstruck on skatefulness? I'm like, I watched him and Stephen A. Smith when I was a kid watching the first take. Like, that's he was he's iconic in sports media, which is stuff I like to do.
Jason:Loved it,
Matt:too. So he's like, you know, I'm gonna go over and talk to him and his wife, Ernestine.
Jason:Lovely.
Matt:And they were great.
Jason:Yeah. I I think he he's more into golf. Like, he hasn't really played. Yeah. But they understand there's hype.
Jason:I mean, they're at Brentwood Country Club, so there's some pickleball going on.
Matt:Basketball's his, like, favorite sport.
Jason:It's funny, though, because we're gonna play Padel with him soon. Yes. There were some great speeches made.
Matt:Unreal speeches.
Jason:And Marshawn Lynch was there. Marshawn Lynch is Yeah. I mean, it was just, like, a really cool So sports media
Matt:group of people.
Jason:Yeah. Beautiful house.
Matt:Carson Thompson was there? Yes. NFL?
Jason:I thought I was gonna we were gonna be playing late night, like midnight pickle. I brought sneakers just in case because I didn't wanna go into shoes.
Matt:Cleared out by that point. It it wouldn't it was it wouldn't have been fun. No.
Jason:No. But we lot we it took a full day yesterday to recover
Matt:A 100%.
Jason:Before rallying for your birthday. But it was a great time. And, yeah. No. Just happy to be included.
Matt:Good good evening for sure. Cookies on the way out were fantastic.
Jason:And popcorn?
Matt:The popcorn was crap. I finished all that.
Jason:No. Because I'm dehydrated.
Matt:Yes. Needed
Jason:it. Yeah. And now I'm just curious. How's your piss? The color of your piss?
Matt:That's a personal question. Yeah. No. It's it's normally clear.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Matt:I know Dehydrated? I know all the signs.
Jason:When you have asparagus, does it come a certain way? Does it because I've had people be like, no, it doesn't smell at all. Like, are you kidding? It definitely smell.
Matt:I had asparagus the other day.
Jason:What does it say about you if it doesn't smell and you're eating asparagus? Like what's going on there? Your body is just Rejecting or not? Terrible. Yeah.
Jason:Yeah. It's got to smell a certain way.
Matt:In college athletics, when you went to the bathroom, on most of the urinals, have piss colors showing you where you're You
Jason:know what I mean? Like a pH scale?
Matt:Yeah, they'll be like: It's dark, you should probably start drinking. I it's clear, you're think most people know that. But they had it on all the urinals in college athletic department. Yeah.
Jason:No. I remember anytime I've had long like, whether it was after a tournament or a long day, like, you're yeah. It's very dark yellow. Yeah. You know, we're gonna we we talk a lot about Anna Lee Yeah.
Jason:In this. She's 19 years old. She's a sensation, but she already feels like she's been in the league, you know, been in the league, Been around for
Matt:ten plus years. Yeah. Well, she said she said that she's like, I've been a pro athlete for ten years almost.
Jason:Three events, single. Like, it's such a grind, and she you know, I don't know if she's had any major issues, but she wears two knee braces. Do you think that longevity is going to be something she runs into at some point?
Matt:I don't think so. I mean, I think it's concerning a little bit. She had the the both knees on in Atlanta, and then and then, San Clemente only had the one. So it's like, okay, that was just maybe precautionary. She recovered quick.
Matt:She didn't play singles, so maybe that was the real reason behind it. It's a concern, but I do think she has a whole team behind her that's like really paying attention to everything day in, day out. She's gotten struck. If you look at her as an athlete over the last three years, she's putting on more muscle every year.
Jason:She's still
Matt:growing. Yeah, she looks like a better athlete every year To me, like pickleball with being so low all the time, it's like the lower back. That's got to be like the biggest concern of anything of like just your your rotational and back and all that. But her core seems to be incredibly strong.
Jason:If you're using your legs right, then you shouldn't have back issues, right?
Matt:No, but you're always leaning. Things are so low. Like, it's not easy to just dinking with Blayne, you're always over. It's not a comfortable position
Jason:Yeah. To do
Matt:So but it but you need to have strong core. I know her core is, like, insane.
Jason:What's amazing by the way?
Matt:But, like because she normally wears stuff that covers it. But when she once in a while doesn't, she's she's ripped. Like, she's very strong.
Jason:You know what would be amazing, though? Not amazing, but if she retired today at 19
Matt:Yeah.
Jason:Nobody's touching her records or And that's
Matt:I don't is
Jason:there another sport you can say that about? I I don't know any tennis player that won as much as she
Matt:such a young sport is the problem, you know?
Jason:Well, and she was the youngest and the best from the beginning in a way. So it's kind of fascinating.
Matt:Well, was looking at the the list of because I just posted a video with Brooke Buckner. There's four in the world, I believe, now in in women's singles. And she is what is she? Thirty thirty one or something? 32?
Matt:Yeah.
Jason:Maybe But the whole tennis career, right?
Matt:Yeah. She played tennis before. I mean, even Kate Fahey is, like, in her late twenties. Caitlin Christian's early thirties.
Jason:Yeah.
Matt:All these girls in the top 10, even top 20, the only one who's like 18 is like Kyora Kunimoto. Everyone's like in their late twenties or thirties.
Jason:They came over from tennis.
Matt:So it's like in terms of her dominance, I can't wait till we have 20 people that are, like, close at her age that can really physically meet the demands that she's meeting, at least in the singles game.
Jason:Yeah. Yeah. It's because
Matt:it's it's a ages age matters. Yeah.
Jason:But he still has a lot of he's got a lot to prove in terms of, like, wins. Like, it's one thing to be relevant. It's another to actually get
Matt:results. Yeah. I'm saying. But he's having results all like, he's he's consistent.
Jason:He's still gonna have, like, until you
Matt:For sure.
Jason:Win, until you have all these medals. But, like,
Matt:just like let's look at the last couple events for him. He goes Atlanta finals and semis, then goes to the San Clemente wins doubles final singles, wins No. He's he's on the map now.
Jason:He's on the map. He's on
Matt:the mean, it's everything.
Jason:Look. John Lewin, Lucius Goins, who did make the PBA finals and did make a nice run. Yeah. Had a hot minute there. We went back to back, which had only been done by three people ever.
Jason:I think Ben, Tyson,
Matt:and maybe Zane. Thomas got swag.
Jason:You can come and go. Like For sure. You can once you break through, you have to maintain.
Matt:For sure.
Jason:And now the expectations are there, and now you're playing with a lot more pressure than when you're an an underdog. So I don't think Tama feels that. I think he'll be fine. But I
Matt:think I think it's cool on the men. Obviously, we've had NLE for so long, but we haven't had a male player that has come up in that age group. It's just really interesting because in tennis, you had guys that came up through their teens to then hit their peak at 19 and 20.
Jason:Yeah.
Matt:Like, and you see that growth through those years.
Jason:It makes you wonder. Like, I remember back in the NBA days when Kobe was, like, 18 coming in and people stopped going to college or they were it was very rare, and you were very special if you went straight to the NBA. And now I'm like, I mean, hockey, these guys come in at 18. Yeah. What is the year that you can really say, like, this guy's ready or gal?
Jason:You know? It's I I it because there's a maturity thing.
Matt:I don't even know if it's a a year or if it's it's really just a maturity.
Jason:But your physical athletic Yeah. Right. Because you some people are still growing. I think David Robinson grew, like, six inches in, like, sophomore year in college. You know?
Jason:So there's it's case by case, but there is an emotional maturity that people can or can't handle. LeBron came in at 18, and he handled it great.
Matt:It seems that the great ones usually are great pretty early.
Jason:They're ready by eighteen. You know? Yeah.
Matt:Like, the great ones somehow have a different time clock than everybody else, and it hits early, and then it stays late.
Jason:I mean, look. Team sports is very different too than what we're taught you know, pickleball and tennis, like, it's you're on an island. It's just you, motivation. What are your expectations?
Matt:Tiger was great early.
Jason:Yeah. Golf. Golf's a good one. So it is a real testament to, you know, one's maturity and mental growth, and you have to almost go through some ups and downs. Rare to come on the scene and then maintain that greatness.
Matt:I mean, to be that mature early, like, it's I don't know if you're you can be that's something you're you're somehow born with. It's like a lucky lightning strikes type thing because most kids there's people in their thirties that don't have a mental development to to to do it
Jason:with somebody. That are, you know, 38. Yeah. No. I I mean, dude, no question about it.
Jason:There's people that are just they never grow up. Right? They're still a
Matt:And then there's then there's kids at 15 that, like, can go out in front of a crowd and just light it up. And and Well, and Roger parents can't prepare you for that. It's just something that
Jason:have. Kids are homeschooled too, but Roger was known to be a very, like, temp you know, temper tantrums in his teens, and then he found his cool under pressure vibe. I do not like it. You know, Hunter and these guys that throw the okay. But, like, get I don't know.
Jason:At some point, you gotta stop doing that, or maybe it's part of the thing. McEnroe always blew up. Maybe it's
Matt:I was listening. I listened to his podcast the other day. He was on a podcast with Ari Emanuel Mount Rushmore, or it's called Rushmore. They talk about the top four top four in anything and then come together and put together a list.
Jason:So is Macronore one of them?
Matt:So Macronore and Cherpohove were on together to talk about the top four female tennis players of all time. So they each give their top four, then they all come together at the end and collectively come up with the four.
Jason:I'm just curious who which four stuck out? Like, obviously Serena
Matt:I listened to Cherpova's whole list, then and then it got long, and I had to go somewhere.
Jason:What would your top four be?
Matt:Of women's tennis all time? Yep. They asked about Impact off the court as well, like, you know, Billie Jean King who changed
Jason:Yeah. Title understand. Understand. All
Matt:that stuff. Serena's obviously on the list. Yeah. There's no question. I think you have to put Billie Jean because of of what she did for the sports.
Jason:Everett, Navratulova.
Matt:Yeah. I mean, Graf has 20
Jason:Graf, yeah.
Matt:You know, has 20 something slams.
Jason:Right. Just wins. Hard. Gotta be on there.
Matt:Navratulova should be up there, but then you're leaving out. Like, that's already that's four. Nobody else in the
Jason:last, like, twenty years other than Serena. It's really people, like, in the seventies to teach. Right? And your top four men. Go.
Matt:Top four men.
Jason:I mean, it's pretty obvious.
Matt:Novak, Fed, Nadal, and
Jason:Probably Algoraz already. Right?
Matt:No. Because I love Pete Sampras.
Jason:Okay. We'll go we'll
Matt:go honorable mention for Andre, because Andre's Andre.
Jason:Let's do our our Mount Rushmore for pickleball right now. Males, females. Okay. Go.
Matt:Okay. Female, Simone Sharjim.
Jason:Mhmm.
Matt:Annaly Waters. Mhmm. Lee. Lee Waters.
Jason:So Annaly and Lee, short Simone, and I don't know if it's Bright or, you know Bright's Bright's pushed the game forward. Yeah.
Matt:Lucy was back in the day. Bright. Catherine Catherine was great. She was Simone back in the day. Yeah.
Matt:Let's leave it at three for the moment because I don't wanna I don't wanna go
Jason:for Ben. Ben. This is where it gets tricky.
Matt:Kyle Yates was the GOAT back in the day. But you don't you don't you're not you're
Jason:not No. I mean, no. I I I appreciate Yates. I just don't think he's had enough of an impact on today's game. Right.
Jason:I would give Wright the edge over Yates because he's he's straddled the line. He's still relevant.
Matt:Yeah. At 44 or whatever. Interesting because the sport is not mature enough yet. We I need five generations to to have
Jason:You don't get it.
Matt:We we need it. Sport needs to
Jason:get I need five generations to to make a decision. Five. You can't lie. Here you are. Alright.
Jason:Well, thanks for playing the game.
Matt:I mean, who are you for?
Jason:I mean, I would say Ben and I I would say Matt, right, deserves to be on there for multiple reasons. I feel like Gabe is too young, but he will be because he's changed the game. He changed the whole mentality of a right side. And then, that's tough. Yeah.
Jason:There's nobody that really stands out right behind Ben.
Matt:Look, I don't think we have enough enough No. Enough history yet, to be honest. Like, the pro game, the pro game as we know it, really started during the pandemic.
Jason:All right, Matt, I got some rapid fire questions for you. Don't take too long. Just whatever first comes
Matt:to mind. Shoot.
Jason:Here we go. Indoor or outdoor? Indoor. Third chat, drop or drive?
Matt:Drop.
Jason:Sandbagging, cheating or strategy?
Matt:Cheating.
Jason:Trash talk, part of the game or classless? Classless. Ben Johns or Annaly Waters? Bigger goat.
Matt:Ben Johns.
Jason:Okay. I was surprised you said indoor. I love indoor. I prefer
Matt:indoor. I love indoor. I indoor. But I hate being blasted by the sun all day. Yeah.
Matt:Then Well, there's elements. The wind, and the wind pisses me off.
Jason:I think on a global or a commercial scale, like, the sport should really move indoor I agree. So that you never have to deal with weather. Yep. And wind. I mean, wind kills this sport more than any other sport.
Matt:What kind of shoes are these?
Jason:I don't know.
Matt:Very interesting very interesting outfit.
Jason:He always comments on my stuff. I don't know.
Matt:Are those
Jason:I don't even know, dude. I just have random
Matt:stuff. It's like New Balance and Sketchers made a collab for old people.
Jason:It's the you got a big laugh on that one. You got
Jason:a big laugh on that one.
Matt:That's another episode of Certified McNasty. I thought that was fun.
Jason:It was alright.
Matt:I'm in my new I'm in my new Reese pants,
Jason:by way. Reese pants. Yeah.
Matt:Reese pants.
Jason:So that's the other thing. I I there's a new shirt that I got at REI, and these are gray. So I thought
Matt:You you love a good collared shirt.
Jason:Matt honestly acts like I'm a senior citizen. Like, he thinks I'm I wore a jacket to Horowitz. He's like, hey, nice jacket there. Like, what are you I mean, I was like, what's everybody has a sport coat.
Matt:It's because I I view you as, like, a friend and, like, a contemporary. And then but you are a little bit older than me.
Jason:Little bit.
Matt:And you dress age appropriate. So I'm I'm I'm I'm sometimes like, I maybe wouldn't wear that exact thing, but it's it's always good.
Jason:Yeah. I'm I go with what's comfortable. You know, I'm traditional. I don't shop a lot.
Matt:Don't shop. This is the first like you do. I don't. These pants are my favorite new purchase.
Jason:Yeah. They're comfy? Yeah. Anyway, this was a good episode.
Matt:We'll see you guys next time.
Jason:Like and subscribe.
Matt:Like, subscribe. Smash that subscribe button.
