Welcome to the AHRN Minute. My name is Jenny Nielsen, and today we're talking about VA Minimum Property Requirements.

When you’re buying a home with a VA loan, it’s not just you who has to qualify—the home does too. VA Minimum Property Requirements, or MPRs, are designed to make sure a property is safe, sound, sanitary, and suitable for everyday living.

These requirements are evaluated during the VA appraisal. The appraisal looks at the home’s market value while also checking whether the property appears to meet those basic VA standards. Keep in mind, an appraisal isn’t the same as a home inspection, which gives you a more detailed look at the home’s condition.

If an issue is found, that doesn’t necessarily mean the deal is over. In many cases, repairs can be completed before closing so the loan can move forward. Knowing what to look for ahead of time can help you avoid surprises later in the process.

That's your AHRN Minute, and thanks for listening!
