Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
But whenever they make an effort to reform, from a sincere desire
to do right, it is the power of Christ that is drawing them. – Steps to
Christ, pg. 27
Why can’t I think? My brain felt like it was a wrung-out rag.
I couldn’t think of anything to write! My fingers hovered over the
keyboard for hours, but nothing was coming to me like I hoped it
would. The little I had written resembled a stormy lake: the sentences
were choppy, and the paragraphs refused to flow smoothly. Why does
it look so easy for other people? How could they write so well?
Turning to my friend, I questioned, “How can you write so
smoothly?”
“It’s not easy,” he replied.
Confused at the response, I continued to interrogate: “But you
write so much, so fast, so flawlessly!”
“No, I have to work just as hard as you do. I just have a bit
more practice,” was his response.
Looking back down at my computer, I tried again. Humming
and hawing over my writing, I realized that nothing ever seems to
come smoothly or naturally. It takes a bit of work before I get better at
it and a lot of work before I start to like it.
On the other hand, when it comes to sports, I am driven.
Spending hundreds and hundreds of hours practicing and improving
is no sweat. The more I work at it, the better I get, and the more I love
it. Why couldn’t writing come as naturally? Maybe it could. Maybe if I
spend more time writing and learn to love it, it will come naturally too.
Spending time with God is one of those things that doesn’t
exactly come naturally to me. In fact, sometimes I feel like it’s a waste
of time. However, I have found that the more time I spend with Jesus,
the more I enjoy it and the more I love Him.
