I hope you find this podcast both empowering and inspirational. Now, let's get started moving your business to the next level.
Jennie Lyon:Everyone knows that running social media ads can be an absolute game changer for any online business. The possibilities are endless, but it's more complicated than just hitting publish and watching the money roll in. Wouldn't that be nice? As an online business owner, you may have wondered if running social media ads is worth the extra money or if you should just play it safe and stick to organic marketing. So my goal today isn't to influence you one way or the other, but instead to offer you some really actionable advice that you can use to run social media ads on a budget that grow your business and increase your sales.
Jennie Lyon:So let's get into it. So this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't believe that all businesses are ready to run social media ads. Why? Well, because there's a lot of psychology that goes into running social media ads, and many online business owners don't have a good enough handle on who their ideal client avatar is to have the foundation that you need to have for a successful ad campaign. You're ready for social media ads if, check the box, you've developed your ICA, your ideal client avatar, and you have a very thorough understanding of their pain points, their desires.
Jennie Lyon:And you have been able to confirm that this information is correct through market research, through speaking with other people who actually fit into your ICA. You have a business that has the infrastructure in place to start leading those leads that you would acquire through social media ads through some sort of a funnel. So it doesn't have to be a complicated funnel, but it does need to be an intentional funnel. Next is you're prepared to invest in your marketing and see social media ads as an investment, not an expense, Or you are prepared to take on more workload. You have a plan to nurture these leads until they're ready to become paying customers.
Jennie Lyon:Now if you just heard that list and you got a bit discouraged, please don't. You know, the great thing about all of these steps is that these are things that you can work towards. So trust me. You really will thank me later for waiting until your business is ready to run social media ads. I have a ton of content about ICAs and funnels, and you're definitely welcome to check those out and then come back to this content when you're ready.
Jennie Lyon:Where on the other hand, if you heard the list and you you're like, check, check, check. Yeah. I feel like I do check those boxes. Then it really is time to start thinking about how you can run social media ads for your business. And I'm here to help you to get started by doing that on a budget.
Jennie Lyon:So the number one thing is setting that advertising budget. So I know for a lot of clients, this can seem really daunting, especially if you really feel like you lack the confidence in running social media ads. And while you can honestly start with any budget, I always tell clients, let's start with a really realistic budget. So I typically recommend that clients start around $10 a day. Another formula that I suggest for ad budgeting is to allot 10% of your total profits from the prior year and then divide that down into a monthly budget and then into a daily budget.
Jennie Lyon:But whatever your budget is, creating a strategy for those ads to run on is really going to be quintessential to generating a really good return on your investment. And not all ads are created nor run equally. So you wanna set very clear objectives, knowing your audience and choosing the right platforms to run these ads on. Those are that's really the first steps to creating a really successful social media ad strategy. So with Facebook, Facebook's really great for a diverse audience.
Jennie Lyon:It's ideal for brand awareness and lead generation. Where Instagram, with it being more of a visual platform, is really perfect for brands that have really strong visual content and is really effective for lifestyle and fashion businesses. It works really well for them. LinkedIn is really best for b to b marketing. It's really useful for professional services and recruitment, Whereas TikTok, which has, as we all know, really exploded in popularity, especially among a younger demographic, it's excellent for creative and fun content.
Jennie Lyon:And like I mentioned at the very beginning, you know, there's more to social media ads than just hitting publish and then watching the money roll in because, wow, that would be incredible, wouldn't it? You really do need to have a strategy that will help you to keep your ads on budget while also creating the results that you desire. So I was actually talking to my top social media ad strategist last week, and we worked together to create a free $10 a day ad strategy. It's a guide and workbook that really will help you by walking you through all of the steps that you need to consider to attract qualified leads and drive sales, all while staying on budget. So it's the first freebie that we've created in a long time, and I'm so excited for the $10 a day ad strategy.
Jennie Lyon:This guide is definitely going to move you in the right direction, and it will get you set up and ready to start running successful $10 a day ads today. And you can grab it at jennelion.comforward/adsads. So the currency of social media really no longer lies in views or likes, but it's really about attention. So being able to stop your ideal client avatar from scrolling through this endless news feed of content and to really stop and learn more about your product or your service is really the main objective for your advertisements. So this means that your graphics really need to stand out from the page.
Jennie Lyon:They need to represent your brand, and they need to speak directly to your ICA's pain points and any problems that they're experiencing. Your copy and your messaging should be so targeted that your ideal client avatar just feels like, oh my gosh. This is for me. They are speaking directly to me. And you really do need to understand those pain points and problems so well that you know that when they see it, they're going to think, oh my gosh.
Jennie Lyon:This is the solution that I've been seeking. And while that sounds like a lot, in our free ad strategy guide that I've just told you about, we're actually including a bunch of samples of real ads that we've run for our clients as well as breaking down how to create a standout ad. So you definitely need to grab it. I'm so excited for this workbook. It really outlines every single thing that you need to create a successful $10 a day ad strategy.
Jennie Lyon:So, again, make sure you grab it at jennylion.comforward/ads. And then running social media ads as an online business, it's really a game of trial and error. So while strategy and experience can really help you to avoid unnecessary mistakes, The fact is that there isn't a single multimillion dollar business running ads on social media that isn't evaluating their ads and adjusting them on a regular basis. Everyone wants to do that because we're always striving to get an even better return on our investment. So what this means is that you should also be analyzing your results and adjusting your ads based on your objectives and your results.
Jennie Lyon:So sometimes the magic touch is something as simple as changing a headline or maybe simplifying your your messaging or your wording. But these are things that you really don't know until you try. And these are the metrics that I want you to keep a specific eye on when you're running ads. So you might want to pause and jot these ones down. The first is your CTR, which is your click through rate.
Jennie Lyon:This really indicates how effective your ad is at prompting users to take action. Next is your conversion rate. So that measures how many clicks lead to desired actions, such as purchases or sign ups. And ROHAAS, which is your return on ad spend, This helps you evaluate how much revenue your ads generate relative to their cost. And for my clients, I always suggest that they check these weekly and adjust accordingly.
Jennie Lyon:Or when we're running ads for our clients, we check them almost daily, and we're always adjusting them accordingly. So you can steal our ad strategy. And as you can see, there's a lot that goes into running social media ads for an online business. And I do definitely believe that you could do all of this yourself and figure it out on your own. It's a lot of work.
