What is Hero Files?

Hero Files is a kids podcast where sisters Curie & Yeva explore fictional characters and ask one big question: what really makes a hero?
Through stories, discussion, and imagination, each episode turns reading into thoughtful conversation.

Hello everyone.

Today we will be doing the
introduction to the six steps to

become the hero of your story.

So about me, um, my name is
Curie and I am 11 years old.

I started reading books when I
was like very, very young and

I love them, like honestly.

So like, I've read a lot of books,
like probably over a thousand.

And this is my sister
Yeva and she's eight.

I'm nine.

And she's nine.

Um.

I hate reading books no more.

Like I used to hate reading books and now
I love reading books because my sister

made me start reading books and now, so
I would like to stay with my sister for.

Making me start reading books.

Yeah.

Okay.

Um, he, he, I'm not, I'm the best.

Anyways.

My favorite genre by far
right now is fantasy.

And I have read like over a
lot, like a lot, a lot, a lot.

Um, my favorite titles include
Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, keeper

of the Lost Cities, um, Throne

of Glass, the Hunger
Games and Shadow and Bone.

Six of Crows.

Like a lot.

A lot, a lot.

You have read some, okay.

And yeah, because I've
read a lot of books.

I have made a major discovery and
I wanna share with all of you guys.

So all of these heroines
have like similar traits.

Can you guess?

Some of them say three.

Independence.

They have independence.

Mm-hmm.

They have a purpose and they
focus a lot and they study

hard and okay, that's three.

Good job.

Let's basically not three.

So has any one of you read Harry Potter?

Okay.

Have you guys read, um, Annabeth Chase?

No, not Annabeth.

Have you guys read for Percy Jackson?

Okay.

Do you guys know Annabeth
Chase and Hermione Granger?

They focus, yeah.

So they have a lot in common with together
and a lot of other heroes out there.

So, um, today I'm sharing
six traits with you guys.

Um, the first trait is finding your
purpose and defining your goal.

The second is to work you very, very hard.

And to have confidence in yourself.

The third is to be very focused.

The fourth is to be independent.

The fifth is to stay positive, and the
sixth is to stay curious and have fun.

So the first step to become a
hero is to find your purpose.

All the heroes and heroes in the
story already have a mission.

You're supposed to save the
world or get into this college,

or they already have a goal.

So if you wanna become a hero, and your
first step would be to find the goal or

your purpose, like why are you doing this?

So what's the next goal that you wanna.

Complete and to start off small
and then find something bigger.

So let's say, um, I don't know,
Grace Foster from the Crave Series,

grace, um, she's like a gargoyle
and there's this guy named Cyrus

and he's really, there's a gargoyle.

It's like this creature that
can, you mean like the stone

that's turning stone in morning.

Oh no, not in morning.

Like just, I mean, I mean like
stone creatures and they have

wings and then they Yes, yes, yes.

And then their face looks kind of weird.

No, they don't.

Okay.

Oh yeah, it's kind of like that.

And there's this big guy named
Cyrus, and he's really evil.

So their job is to defeat them,
and that's the goal of that story.

So you're supposed to like
find your own goal first.

The second lesson is about
confidence and working hard.

If you wanna succeed in your goal, you're
gonna have to be confident in yourself

because if you don't have self-confidence.

And then you, then you
won't believe in yourself.

And if you don't believe in yourself,
then you won't be able to do it,

because if you don't believe in
yourself, you won't even find the

incentives to start working so well.

The most important part is that if
you're going to do something, you're

gonna have to believe in yourself so
that you can actually start doing it.

Um, so confidence is a must have and
Katniss is really confident in what

she does, like shooting the bone arrow.

Now, um, work, working hard
is also really important.

If you wanna succeed in a goal,
you're gonna have to work hard.

And if you don't work
hard, you're gonna fail.

Like you don't.

All the book characters don't just sit
there and then their dream comes true.

They work towards it to reach that.

For example, Harmani Granger, let's
say her goal is to get a good grade

on a test, then she has to study
hard to get a good grade and focus.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So that brings us to the third lesson.

The third lesson is to focus.

You have to focus on your goal
to be able to complete it.

If you steer away from your task,
you won't be able to finish it.

Um, do you think the heroes save
the world by going to the park or.

Playing with their friends when
they're supposed to be training?

No.

So the third step is to
focus at the task and hand.

Um, one thing that I've noticed
is that half of the book

characters are all orphans.

That means they grew.

That means that they grew up by
themself, usually with like no

parents or like other guardians.

So if they grew up with by themself,
then they're gonna have to fend for

themselves, which means that they're
not dependent on anyone to do anything.

Um, I'm not saying that you can't
be dependent on your parents or your

teacher, but it's better if you learn
to be independent because if you

like go into the real world and you
have to do all the stuff, but like

no one ever taught you what they, you
always relied on someone else, then

you won't be able to do it yourself.

Yeah, do it yourself.

I think that's like the
fifth lesson, sixth.

No fifth count it.

Okay, the fifth lesson
is to stay positive.

Your positivity is also very important
on your quest to succeed in the goal.

If you meet an obstacle and you're
just like very negative, then you might

just give up and stop right there.

But if you have a positive attitude,
you are either going to fail a task

and learn from it so you can learn
from your own mistakes and you can do

it next time, or you're gonna be able
to do it so you can reach your goal.

Okay.

And the last lesson is to have fun.

Yay.

I mean, in like the third lesson I told
you that you, I think it was third lesson.

Yeah.

And you, you aren't supposed to like go
and play at the park while you're supposed

to be finishing, but I mean, after done.

Yeah.

But after you're done,
you can go do whatever.

Oh, after you're done, you can
go do whatever you wanna do.

So work hard and play harder
and spend your time with

your friends and family more.

Um, also stay curious and
keep one eye open to explore

new things every single day.

Okay, so these are the six steps to
own your story and episode one coming

out soon and in the main meantime.

Thank you and goodbye.

Bye.
