One Gospel Minute

Throughout July, One Gospel Minute is returning to its roots by revisiting the original radio messages of Tennessee Bible College founder Malcolm Hill. In this Throwback Thursday archive episode, Malcolm Hill uses the universal need for water to illustrate an essential truth about God's plan of salvation.


Pointing to Jesus' words in John 3, he reminds listeners that water is not an accident or an afterthought in Scripture. God's plan includes being "born of water and the Spirit," calling us to trust His revealed will rather than our own ideas.

Have you ever been thirsty? You say, “Man, I have been thirsty. Yes, I have.” But, you know, when you think about thirst, there is absolutely nothing that will satisfy it like water. God made it that way. God so arranged matters that water is the number one thing that comes to our mind when we think of thirst.

Now, water is necessary, so far as I know, for just about everything to live: vegetation, animals, plants, human beings, and so on. All of us have to have water. Now, I don't know why it is that people reject the water plan, but there's a plan for a man to be saved in the Bible, and it includes water. There's water in God's plan of salvation.

Our Lord said in John 3:1–7, “Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Now, there's water in the plan. Water baptism is in the plan of God. I'm Malcolm Hill.
