What is Clydesdale Media Podcast?

We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.

What is going on, everybody?

It's lunchtime.

We're taking a break from

the workday to hang out,

talk about sports

entertainment in the world of CrossFit.

What is going on?

All right, guys.

It's been a minute.

we're going dart and I think

I've switched to lefty um I

pre right before the reese

interview I did last week I

was practicing waiting for

her to come on and I put a

lot of holes in my wall

because lefty it gets a

little wild but actually I

get closer to the bullseye

when I'm like close so

we're gonna go lefty for a

while and we're gonna take

the risk so here we go oh terrible

hit the wall not the

dartboard yeah lefty's a

lot more exciting that's

for sure what's going on

kenneth jay birch trained

to live jody lynn all here

I got got my regulars a

little bit of cory coming

in got some fun stuff to

talk to cory about tomorrow

And I can't wait to hear my

judges' take on Corey's

issues from the week.

Can't wait to hear what that is tomorrow.

What's up, Shea, Denise, Matthew?

What's going on?

Denise says,

close your eyes when you throw.

If I go right-handed,

I have to go over the mic

and over the monitor.

If I go left-handed,

I kind of clear all the obstacles,

but I don't have a lot of oomph on it.

I'm semi-ambidextrous.

I write left-handed.

I eat left-handed,

but I throw right-handed.

So I'm all messed up.

I don't really even know who I am anymore.

Corey said it's all been sorted,

but yesterday was a wild ride.

Yeah.

I want to,

I want to pose the question to

my judges in the audience

with your story tomorrow.

So we'll just preview that

and just kind of see their

take on the whole situation.

Glad it's been sorted.

Um, Aaron Frazier accuracy.

One of the ten general skills.

Yeah.

Like I'm pretty accurate

right-handed from like the

line in a straight thing

with nothing in my way.

But hey,

it'll build up my lefty shooting

for a while.

All right,

I'm going to take one more shot

left-handed.

All right, here we go.

Oh my gosh.

This will tell you the tale of two.

This is my lefty.

You just never know.

to get a picture of this all

right so uh my first one is

off the board down into the

right to the right and my

second one is almost a

bullseye I don't know if

you guys can see that so

yeah I missed the bullseye by about

A quarter of an inch.

It's coming.

It's coming.

The lefty, you just never know.

Going lefty,

it could be into the wall or

it could be into the bullseye.

You just never know.

Denise says, nice, Scott.

Corey Leonard, I like the template,

by the way.

TEF should have it by next week.

Yeah.

I actually liked the template better than,

um, what I had.

So we're good.

Uh,

the steak in the bottom corner looks

delicious.

Yeah, that is, that is my homage to, um,

to Ken, Ken Walters.

Um,

cause he always has a ribeye when we do

the lunch with the Gladstone show.

So, yeah,

that's my little homage to him

there in the corner.

Um,

My font is better today too.

Yeah,

I only do the wild ones like every

third or fourth show.

Really,

really just do it to see who's kind

of paying attention.

So, yeah.

But yeah, I actually,

if I were going to go to

with a permanent one,

it would be more in this range.

So, yeah.

to kind of move off of the

norcal stuff a little bit

we're going to talk about a

little bit but um but here

we go um dave's we can

review yesterday uh we'll

start off with the norcal

stuff there and then we'll

kind of get away from that

hopefully uh for the rest

of the week um dave talked

about the norcal

He went to it.

He talked about being there

and how awesome the

community was and how many

people were there and how

incredible that was.

And he liked it from a community event,

but from a qualifying event,

he was not a fan.

And he basically goes into

saying that he talked to

Blair and Ben and said that

basically they're setting

themselves up for failure

by trying all the new things.

instead of giving like a basic competition,

for the most part with

maybe a new thing or try

something new here,

too many new things was just too much.

And they're setting

themselves up for failure.

And he says that he met with them.

He told them that whether

they take that to heart or not,

I don't know.

But I think that that's very

telling that Dave went

public with his comments

about that qualifying event

because he doesn't

generally talk about

qualifying events that he's not running.

For him to step in and say those things,

I think is a big deal.

What that means in the long run,

I don't know.

But it does seem to be a

thing that he felt compelled to say that.

so I found that very very

interesting and then if you

watch the first wow if you

watch the first ten minutes

of boys interrupted uh

dallin held nothing back on

the competition as well

um and basically said

there's no way it should be

a qualifying event there

was there was something

wrong with every single

event and he held nothing

back so they're getting it

from all angles uh this

week media dave athletes uh pretty crazy

Sorry, guys.

I thought I could get away

with it without a cough drop today,

and it is not happening.

So, Train to Live,

Boys Interrupted went in on NorCal.

They really did.

They went on a lot of the

same stuff we've been

talking about for a couple days.

About not measuring the cones,

cones not being straight,

rings being different sizes,

rings being placed further

and closer apart from each other.

Lots of stuff.

The row not being consistent, the gator,

you name it, they've talked about it all.

So I think it's going to be

a hard road to hoe for them

to do this as a qualifying

event next year.

Or they're going to have to

really tighten up the ship.

Really tighten up the ship.

So...

The other thing Dave talked

about yesterday was that

they came to a decision or

a non-decision on the K.L.

Lehman situation that

basically they didn't get

the proof they were looking

for that the scores were valid,

but they didn't get enough

evidence to prove that it wasn't.

So therefore, they were making no decision,

which I think is...

a pretty big cop out.

I think if you're a

competition and you tell

the participants they need

to videotape their events

in case CrossFit asks and

they cannot supply those,

then the decision has to go

that it's not valid.

because they are not

adhering to those rules.

Now,

I don't know what they got or what got

put together for them,

what it was the lack of or the,

I don't know.

Trained to live,

either he did the work and

has video proof or he didn't,

seems pretty obvious.

Don't know how a top five

finisher gets away with not having videos,

says Andrew Sten.

What part of he wasn't on

the gym cameras doing

workouts isn't proof.

So, Lito,

I don't know if CrossFit has that.

That's something that

Kipping at Real had or stated he had.

Yeah.

Again, that's the part that's confusing.

You have a lot of stories out there.

I don't know what evidence

CrossFit got or didn't get

in this situation because

they didn't say.

But fact of the matter is,

his open finish stays as a

top five finish.

And that's it.

And we'll see if he signs up

for the last chance qualifier.

Anyone in the top one hundred hell,

everyone in the top one

hundred should have a video.

You would think.

So then.

I heard this yesterday when

Dave was talking.

I'm going to play it for you guys.

And then I figured it out

with a release that came

out just a few minutes ago.

But the way Dave talks about

the last chance qualifier was very,

very weird.

Hi Dave,

will the last chance qualifier use

the same video review process as,

or he might be a photographer,

as in affiliate semifinals,

all public videos,

public review and voting by

certified judges, et cetera.

If yes,

is there a date when that will be

completed after the last

chance qualifier?

So the last chance qualifier

will not have the same

video process as the in

affiliate semifinals.

They're running it on their

own and they're gonna have

their own standards and

they're gonna have their

own way of running it.

We've been giving them a

little advice and guidance,

but it is not adhering to

our standards for execution

So who the hell is they Who

is they they are running it

we are consulting them

we're giving them advice who is they Well,

it appears it appears

from a release from the

barbell spin just a few

minutes ago that the they

is crossfit mayhem the

hustle app is going to be

used for the scorecard um

and they're calling it the

mayhem golden ticket I

think um it seems weird

If you do sign up and you are not eligible,

it will not allow you to sign up.

Brian's been tried to do

that and was told you are

not eligible for the last

chance qualifier.

But it seems as though it

seems as though I don't

have confirmation on this,

but it does seem that

mayhem is running the last

chance qualifier.

And we asked that as a

factor fiction a couple weeks ago,

is Mayhem controlling CrossFit?

They programmed almost every semifinal,

and here we are with the

last chance qualifier,

and they're running it?

Just seems to be.

So I don't know.

It just is mind-boggling that...

their hands are that far into it again.

And the fact that CrossFit

is still hands off on as

much as they can be hands

off of this season, they are hands off.

And that is crazy to me.

plausible deniability on HQ's part.

Yeah,

because when they're asked about

video review and all that stuff, hey,

not us.

Our hands are clean.

I don't know.

It's wild.

Aaron Frazier, Nate has a chance then.

He does.

Maybe Luke will sign up now.

I don't think Mayhem is

going to buy CrossFit.

but

Just crazy.

And I'm not saying they

won't do a good job of it

or that they're not trying

to keep it as fair as possible,

but they're just biases.

There are people that are

doing their programming.

It's just natural.

I do think they try to be

ethical in what they do and

they try to be on the up

and up with everything that they do,

but they're just natural

biases that occur

Because you know this person

or you want this person to succeed.

Lito,

they have literally outsourced

everything this year.

This isn't a surprise, really.

I agree with you to some extent,

but I was shocked that they

outsourced the last chance qualifier.

I just never thought that

was a possibility.

But apparently...

apparently it's it's it is a

possibility so there it is

why didn't mayhem do the

review of kale that is a

very excellent question

that part wasn't outsourced

jody says mayhem should

stay away from buying

crossfit I don't understand

that statement

Um, I think if mayhem bought CrossFit,

we'd be in a better spot.

I don't think they have the

money to buy CrossFit

unless they had investors behind them.

Um, like the hustle up people,

which has been rumored to

be a part of the package of

someone who wants to buy CrossFit.

But I, you know,

I haven't heard much more than that.

So.

I think CrossFit's still a

good buy if you know what

you're doing and you're in

it for the long haul and

not a short-term flip.

But that's just me.

So...

So yeah,

so that's what I have on the

Dave's Weekend Review.

But when I heard that they,

I was really conflicted and

confused and confounded.

And then to just, like I said,

minutes before we went on the air,

the spin released that

they're not using the

CrossFit leaderboard,

they're using Hustle Up,

and they're calling it the

Mayhem Golden Ticket, apparently.

So very, very, very interesting.

Interesting.

one other thing I wanted to

get to today is, um, Liz,

this weekend we had another

road to the games and with

Dallin and Jason.

And what I will say is it is,

it is much better than the

fee and Abby one,

because I believe that the

personalities of Jason and

Dallin carry it.

Um,

and it was very humorous and it was it.

And the wives really lent

themselves to be the stars of this, uh,

documentary.

I also had,

we had the NorCal classic going

on with Hiller releasing

behind the scenes all weekend long.

I absolutely loved the

Hiller behind the scenes videos.

Um,

he's just in a total groove

with storytelling right now.

And even the short,

quick bursts that he does

in behind the scenes, what I,

what I love about his

version of it and what made

Savan so good is none of

the behind the scenes was about them.

it's not about Hiller story

or anything like that.

It's about the people he's talking to,

and it's about them telling their story.

And I think that that is

where Hiller has figured it out.

Um, his last couple visits with the people,

like the twenty four hours

or forty eight hours with,

which I think he's calling

road to the games now, which is hilarious,

um, are awesome.

and when these behind the

scenes I actually was like

refreshing youtube every

morning so that I could

watch them before that

day's event I was that

excited to see the next

iteration they did so good

with that so um if you have

not watched the behind the scenes of uh

NorCal, totally worth watching.

I would give it... I would

put it up in that A-plus

range of the stuff from the year.

This last road to the games

with Dallin and Jason,

I would give it an A. It's

probably their best outing

of the year for road to the games.

So some good content there.

Again,

kind of hidden in what happened at

NorCal.

So...

CrossFit not really hitting

the home runs on the release times.

I mean, there's nothing going on today,

tomorrow.

They would have been perfect

times to release this kind of stuff.

Aaron says,

you mean it's not like the Buttery Bros?

It is not.

Yeah, it's not about Hiller and...

know last year he included

some of the spiegel stuff

with him and spiegel that

was more like toward what

his channel was about this

year is more just about the

people that were there

participating in the event

having a good time at the

event the community that's

going on this year was I

thought a plus material uh

nothing going on tomorrow

I'm kind of offended scott

Well, of course, Corey,

you're going to be on the show.

That's why we pick Wednesdays,

because there's not a lot

going on in the CrossFit space overall.

So you and I can just sit

and chat about whatever comes up,

and we're good to go.

Shay says his content was

the only content I watched from NorCal.

So good.

I actually enjoyed the broadcast.

This weekend,

I thought that they took to

heart a couple of the tips

that that I tips.

I guess we were critical of

them last Sunday night.

They did more wide shots of the floor.

And when I say wide shots,

I do not mean ten wide.

A lot of people think I mean

ten wide where you can't

really tell who the people are.

I do not.

I just want them back a

couple steps so I can see

two or three lanes at a time.

You can focus on the person

in the middle if you want,

but at least let me see the

people beside them to see

are they close or not.

It just adds more to the storytelling.

And I can still see the

person in the middle really

well to watch that close-up if I want to.

And I thought they did

really well with all of that.

I think the only misses of

the weekend were wrong names of people.

But I also know that people

were switching lanes without notice.

And if you...

if you did not get the

updated lane assignments

with the right people in it

and it's a twenty five lane

field they were they were

at a a very big

disadvantage trying to do

all of that with not the

most updated information

but I actually enjoyed the

broadcast I actually

I thought the video, the footage was good.

They had to,

because they could not live

stream it and they had to

take it back and upload it,

there was a delay to it,

but that is what they had to do.

They talked about what it

would have cost to do that.

They actually invested like

thousands and thousands of

dollars to try to get it to

work as a live stream and

nothing they tried worked.

they tried they even bought

like a starlink that had at

t and t five g and verizon

five g all in the same

component to use all three

bandwidths to get stuff in

and they could not get that

to work so I think what

they did was the best we

could get for where they were

and I applaud them for the

coverage this weekend

because I got to watch it

and I got to see a lot and

there was a lot to talk

about from it so we got a

lot of content from it so

that was pretty pretty

awesome imagine the behind

the scenes of that that

would have been crazy them

trying to figure it all out

aaron frazier says cj with

wad prep had great recaps each day too

Okay, cool.

I did not see those.

I'll have to go check those out.

They showed up in my queue,

just didn't have a lot of

time to get that in.

A train to live,

besides the fact that it

wasn't live streamed,

I think it was pretty good.

I agree.

I thought it was better than

the week before,

and that's all you can ask

is them getting better.

And if they can do it more

economically and we can see

more of the events, then I'm all for it.

Shay had a question for me.

So for the last chance

qualifier is mayhem doing

the programming or how does that work?

So they announced this a

while ago that they were

going to get five coaches

from around the world to

each come up with a workout

and then they would put

those workouts together and

that becomes the last chance qualifier.

They announced who those

coaches were today.

Let me see if I can find that.

One of them is rich surprise, surprise.

Um, but it's not all rich.

Um, so here we go.

I will share my screen.

This is from the barbell spin.

It just went out.

It's on Instagram somewhere,

but I didn't want to like

search for every little piece.

Uh, there'll be five workouts for the LCQ.

Um,

have been programmed by five

different individuals from

around the world.

Rich Froning from North America,

Mikel Izquierdo from Europe,

Liam Mulligan from Oceania,

Alberto Nadeau from South America,

and Max Ma from Asia.

Each person listed above has

programmed one workout that

will be completed during the LCQ.

Um, so, and then just, if you want to know,

um,

there's only been a handful of people

that have signed up, but, uh, Thursday,

the workouts will be revealed.

Saturday registration closes.

Um,

Saturday submission deadline for the

first three workouts is at

eleven fifty nine Pacific time.

And then Sunday at eleven

fifty nine Pacific time

submission deadline for the

last two workouts.

June seventeenth to the twentieth,

the leaderboard will be finalized.

So that is your last chance qualifier.

I do know Carolyn is trying to do it,

but I will tell you,

because they're not

releasing the workouts till Thursday,

she is in a very,

very precarious situation

because you still have to

have the two judges.

And trying to find judges

and places to do a fifteen

foot rope climb.

She'd have to go to another gym.

She has to make all these arrangements.

And with the workouts not

being released until Thursday,

that makes it very difficult on her.

So I hope that answers your question,

Shay.

I may have went a little

further than you asked,

but that's what's going on.

Then Kevin Doyle says,

who's going to title

sponsor this year's games?

I haven't seen GORUCK

attached to anything lately.

More than that,

I've seen GORUCK unattached

from things like they're no

longer sponsoring Tia Claire Toomey.

They're no longer sponsoring Emily Rolfe.

And I'm just taking that

from because Emily is not

wearing their stuff anymore.

So I'm assuming they're out

of that business of

sponsoring athletes even.

So I doubt they will be a

title sponsor of the games.

Yeah.

I saw she wore grit yeah I I

saw that as well again I

don't know if she even has

a sponsor at this point or

if so just could be that

but who knows uh go rock

apparently is a sponsor for

the monster games just

released another workout

Yeah,

I don't know how the company's...

Maybe they're just diving

into these go-ruck races

and things like that and

sponsoring them and those

athletes and kind of

getting out of the CrossFit space.

I think with the pending sale,

it would be really hard to

be a sponsor of the

CrossFit Games this year.

So... I don't know.

Like, gosh...

I think there's just a lot

out there pending,

which makes it really hard

to finalize deals like that

or to commit to CrossFit

when you don't know who the

leadership's going to be.

Do you want to put your name

on the CrossFit Games when

you don't know if the

leadership is or isn't

going to be somebody?

I don't know.

Kevin says, first, no bull, now go ruck,

not looking good for sponsors.

I don't disagree,

but I think last year was an anomaly.

But I don't know.

I don't know.

I know last year was not a

great experience for some

of the sponsors because of

the Lazar Jukic death.

I know that sponsors didn't

get the... I mean,

Vendor Village was closed on Friday.

Um...

So they lost a full day there.

I don't think people got the

return they expected.

So I think the overall

sponsors and vendor village

are going to be hard

pressed to match that this

year or like they did in past years.

But I don't know.

Again,

I think everything depends on the sale.

And I think it all depends

on who takes over and

whether you can attract new

sponsors to it, bring back old sponsors,

things of that nature.

But with everything pending,

it's going to be very, very, very hard.

Off topic, Train to Live says,

will you be getting Hattie on again soon?

I've started reaching out to

some more athletes.

When I interviewed Reese last week,

I realized that I have not

been doing these frequently enough,

and I don't have my total

groove on for interviewing.

So I need to get some reps in,

get back to doing that.

So yeah, I'll...

I can reach out to Hattie.

Of course, she's just one of my favorites.

She's a friend.

We can get her back on.

But I also want to start

reaching out to some

Masters athletes that are

going to the games here in Columbus.

So I want to do some of that.

Sprinkle some of that in as well.

And I know Train to Live,

you have actually sent me

the name of a teen athlete.

I'm trying to decide how I

want to handle those.

But we'll figure it out.

I just got to get back to

doing some interviews just

so I can get back into the

groove of things again and

get ready to do a behind

the scenes of the Masters CrossFit Games.

And I want to get to the

games this year and be able

to do some interviews

around and about the games

with athletes this year as well, too.

So...

Denise,

I still don't think the Masters

games have a sponsor yet.

Yeah, I don't know either.

Looking forward to Columbus.

Me too, Denise.

Yeah, I don't know if you saw,

they released,

they do have a featured

hotel for the Masters CrossFit Games,

which is the downtown

Hilton here in Columbus,

which is gorgeous.

It's actually attached to the event for

of facility um and if you go

out the back side of it

there's a lot there's a

there's the arena district

and the north market which

has a lot of food and uh

food options things like

that um which is so easy to

get to and if you go out

the front and just up a

block you're into the short

north which is another uh

big chunk of stuff to go uh

eat and hang out with so

Shannon ended up winning at NorCal,

so congratulations to you, Shannon,

on that.

Denise wishes you congratulations,

and we do as well.

Good job.

So, yeah, super excited for Columbus.

Andrew Sten,

sponsors will be announced in

the future for the Masters games.

And he would know.

So with that, guys,

we don't have really much else.

Tomorrow we have Corey on here,

and we're going to have

story time with Corey and

reading your workout notes

before you do the workout

and making sure that you

follow all the rules.

what happens when you don't

and you are in video

dispute of those rules and

how it all comes to a climactic end.

And I can't wait to get

Andrew and Jay Burch's

feedback on what Corey did

and how he should have been treated.

All these people in here

bragging about retiring.

Shannon, I retire in May.

Um, I retire in January.

Every time I get my

retirement statement now,

it does tell me how much I

would earn per month if I retired today.

And, um,

I retire in March of twenty forty five.

I'm not that far out.

I'm not that far.

I'm only like I think eight years away.

So what would that twenty

thirty three if I want full retirement?

Shannon,

I am almost as old as you guys are.

Jay Birch, I already bragged.

Kevin, I love a climactic end.

Well, when you're friends with Corey,

you get a lot of climactic ends.

I swear, like,

they need to print the

scorecards in Cajun so that

he and Bill Leahy can learn

how to read them better

before they submit their videos.

But Bill Leahy's going to the games, guys.

Two years ago,

he couldn't get a workout

right to save his life,

and now he's going to the CrossFit Games.

Pretty impressive.

So maybe this year,

Corey can't get a workout right,

and in two years,

he'll be going to the CrossFit Games.

Just maybe.

I think that's the goal.

With that, it's been fun, guys.

But time to get back to work.

So you knuckleheads,

you get back to work too.

We'll see everybody next

time on Lunch with the Clydesdale.

Bye, guys.
