When a HubSpot form redirects to a payment link, you can now lock the email the buyer entered on the form, so the payment stays with the contact the form created.
Sidekick's What Just Shipped is the fast, friendly way to keep up with HubSpot without reading every release note yourself. Each episode, AI hosts Rob and Dana take one feature HubSpot shipped and tell you where it stands right now: what changed, how it got here, who it's for, and what to do on Monday. Rob explains. Dana pushes back. Nobody pretends.
Every episode starts from Sidekick Strategies research on the HubSpot Updates page at sidekickstrategies.com and is checked against official HubSpot sources. If something isn't confirmed, the hosts say so out loud. Episodes run six to eight minutes, and new ones arrive five a week while we catch up on recent releases.
Presented by Sidekick Strategies, a HubSpot solutions partner.

Rob (AI host): A buyer fills out your form with one email, then pays with another, and the payment ends up apart from the form.
Dana (AI host): HubSpot now lets a form lock that email at checkout, keeping the payment on the form's contact record.
Rob (AI host): Stay for the checkbox that does it, and where it hides.
Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies.
Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI.
Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you.
Rob (AI host): Hey there.
Rob (AI host): We're your AI hosts, Rob and Dana, and our source today is HubSpot's help article on using forms to collect payments, updated in early September.
Dana (AI host): Role check: today I'm playing a made-up workshop organizer who sells seats through a form and a payment link.
Rob (AI host): Great test case.
Rob (AI host): Why it matters: a payment on the wrong contact breaks the story of who registered and who paid.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot says locking the email keeps the payment with the contact created by the form submission.
Dana (AI host): Who can use this?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot lists all products and plans, with extra subscriptions for certain features.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot payments needs a Starter, Professional, or Enterprise subscription.
Rob (AI host): Stripe payment processing is available for all subscriptions.
Dana (AI host): And permissions?
Rob (AI host): Edit forms permissions for the form, and Manage payment links permissions for the link.
Dana (AI host): What do I need before I start?
Rob (AI host): A payment link. HubSpot says to create the payment link first, then build the form.
Dana (AI host): Okay, walk me to it.
Rob (AI host): Click More, then Marketing, then Forms. If More doesn't appear, go to Marketing, then Forms directly.
Rob (AI host): Open your form, or hover over it and click Edit.
Dana (AI host): Then?
Rob (AI host): In the upper left, click the contents icon. In the left panel, click On submit.
Dana (AI host): And the redirect?
Rob (AI host): Under On submission, open the Redirect to a page, URL, Meeting, or Payment link dropdown, and select Payment link.
Rob (AI host): In the second dropdown, pick the payment link visitors go to.
Dana (AI host): Where's the lock?
Rob (AI host): At the bottom. Select the checkbox called Connect form submission and payment to one contact.
Dana (AI host): And where does the payment status land?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot says the contact's payment status is available alongside the form submission data.
Dana (AI host): That's a mouthful of a name.
Rob (AI host): It is, but it says exactly what it does.
Dana (AI host): So what does my buyer see?
Rob (AI host): After submitting, they're redirected to the payment link automatically.
Rob (AI host): The email they typed on the form is added to the payment link, and it can't be changed during checkout.
Dana (AI host): So nobody swaps in a personal address halfway through.
Rob (AI host): Right. HubSpot says it prevents buyers from entering a different email address.
Dana (AI host): And when I'm done editing?
Rob (AI host): In the updated form editor, click Review and update in the top right to publish the changes to your live form.
Dana (AI host): Does it matter which form editor I'm in?
Rob (AI host): It does.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot says the steps to add a payment link differ between the updated editor and the legacy editor.
Rob (AI host): The lock steps we just walked through use the On submit panel.
Dana (AI host): What about older forms built in the legacy editor?
Rob (AI host): The legacy editor has its own path.
Rob (AI host): Pick Blank template or the Payment template, turn on the Payment switch, and choose a payment link.
Rob (AI host): Visitors can choose between links you label, and the payment field can't be hidden or use progressive or dependent field logic.
Dana (AI host): Can I control the order of those links?
Rob (AI host): Yes.
Rob (AI host): Drag a link by its handle to reorder, click Sort to go alphabetical, or click the radio button next to a link to preselect it.
Dana (AI host): So, hypothetically, my morning session is preselected and the evening one sits below it.
Rob (AI host): That fits how HubSpot describes it, for legacy forms.
Dana (AI host): Can different answers go to different links?
Rob (AI host): Yes, with conditional logic, which needs Marketing Hub or Content Hub Professional or Enterprise.
Rob (AI host): Click the Logic icon, Add logic, choose a field and operator, then under THEN pick Payment link and the link, and click Save and Activate.
Dana (AI host): Let me try a hypothetical. Morning workshop goes to one link, evening workshop to another.
Rob (AI host): That's HubSpot's own kind of example: an event registration form that sends visitors to a payment link based on the event they pick.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Clean data starts at the form, long before anyone builds a report.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Sidekick's Marketing Hub implementation starts with your strategy, then configures forms, landing pages, and workflows so leads get captured and routed properly.

Rob (AI host): Now the follow-through. How do you see who actually paid?
Dana (AI host): Good question. Where do I look?
Rob (AI host): In Forms, hover over the form, click Actions, then View submissions.
Rob (AI host): The Submissions tab has a Payment Status column.
Dana (AI host): What statuses can show up?
Rob (AI host): Open means they submitted but haven't finished checkout. Pending means the payment is still processing.
Rob (AI host): Succeeded means it was collected, and Failed applies to bank debit methods like ACH, or subscription payments.
Dana (AI host): And if they wander off?
Rob (AI host): That's Expired.
Rob (AI host): A checkout session expires after twenty-four hours, and the buyer can return to the checkout page and click Here's a new link to start again.
Dana (AI host): Handy.
Rob (AI host): Click View on a submission to see the contact, the date, the fields they sent, and in the Payment section, the link name and status, plus the amount and date if it succeeded.
Dana (AI host): Skeptic question. Our research calls the lock a toggle in the form's Options or Actions settings.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's article describes a checkbox, reached from the contents icon and the On submit panel.
Rob (AI host): Same feature, so look for the checkbox.
Dana (AI host): And our write-up says existing forms aren't changed automatically.
Rob (AI host): We couldn't confirm that in HubSpot's article.
Rob (AI host): It only describes turning the checkbox on form by form, so assume it's off until you check.
Dana (AI host): Fair. And free accounts?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's header says all products and plans.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot payments needs Starter or higher, and Stripe payment processing is available for all subscriptions.
Rob (AI host): Alright, here's your plan, hypothetical organizer.
Dana (AI host): Step one: list every form that redirects to a payment link.
Rob (AI host): Step two: open each one, go to On submit, and select the Connect form submission and payment to one contact checkbox.
Dana (AI host): Step three: click Review and update so the live form changes.
Rob (AI host): Step four: submit a test, confirm the email is locked at checkout, and check the Payment Status column.
Dana (AI host): Organizer's verdict: one checkbox, one contact, one clean record of who paid.
Dana (AI host): Turn it on for every paid form.
Rob (AI host): One email in, the same email at checkout.
