Full show transcript:
I've been practicing some circus acts with the dog.
No, you have. haven't. I have. What are you doing? What do you mean?
It's secret.
No, not anymore.
Well, no. I've been keeping it secret from the family.
What are you doing? Balance beam? Well. Jump through hoop? Not yet. Flaming hoop? Not yet. Trapeze. What are you doing?
We haven't gotten there yet. I've mostly just been having conversations with her. I've been trying to ask you. That's not training or anything. No, I know. I've been asking her what she can do. And then she sits. She sits down, and then I go, well, that's not enough. She harfs. A circus.
When you tell her to speak, she goes, Yeah, I know. Like that. Yeah.
So I said, what else you got, kid?
She will do like a spin around. It's not enough. And a lay down. I know. Those are like the four good ones.
I know. I'm working on it. I keep talking to her. I'm like, let's think about it some more.
You know what she's thinking? Give me a treat and go away, woman. That's what she's thinking. No. She's not listening to your conversation.
She absolutely is. No. I'm gonna record a video of it tonight. And I'm in a she listens to me and she looks at me, and then she kind of puts her paws on my legs, like I can try. Like I'm smart.
does not.
I'm gonna get we're gonna get we're gonna get something cooked up.
You want to catch a frisbee? She plays kick-a-ball and push a rock. Those are her two games. And bite a water. She plays kick-a-ball, push a rock, and bite a water, and she does four tricks.
I know we're gonna work on something. Her breed is very smart. We can figure something out. I mean, we we got we got something. I'm gonna cook something up. Me and the dog.
Circus act. Don't even fret about it. I'm not going traveling with the circus. I just think it'd be a cool if people come to our house and I'll be like, oh, watch me and the dog. You do. You think that would be cool? Watch me and the dog. Yes.
No one's coming over. Yeah, and then we'll have to get little outfits. Oh matching outfits. Oh, no. Listen, you wanted the dog. I did not want the dog. And now I have the dog. And the dog likes me the best. And so I've just got to lean into it. And I am.
Okay. Chantel and Luna. Slide. One night only. When you swing by on the back deck. Get ready. It's gonna be amazing.
It is gonna be amazing.
It's mostly you going, what else can you do? What else can you do? And she's doing the same four tricks. And then people are gonna go, this was not worth the five cents I paid to get in here to see this side show. It is gonna be worth it.
Just you wait. Just you wait. It wasn't that secret.
And it's not a circus act.
But costumes, I'm in a fan of that. I think that'll be fun. It will be fun. Here's today's show. Hey, how are you doing? How's it going? Good, fine, great. Yeah? Wonderful. Grand.
You're wearing uh black and white striped shirt again today.
You know what's funny? Is uh I put this on our bed this morning to put it on. And it matched our duvet cover.
It does sort of match. the duvet. Whoa. Yeah. There's my shirt. It's a little darker stripe than the duvet, but yeah, no, you're right. It does. Uh this is a vertical stripe. Yesterday was horizontal. What?
Why? Why are you giving me a bad time about my stripes?
I am not giving you a bad time. I'm making an observation. I was wondering if we were gonna get diagonal tomorrow.
No, diagonal stripes make you look wider. Diagonal do? I think so.
I don't that's the job of a horizontal stripe. You think? Yeah.
Well, then I have a lot of horizontal stripes.
The widens the verticals are narrowing, and uh and an offset diagonal would be somewhat slimming.
It says horizontal stripes do not make a person look wider. Okay. What about diagonal? Did you say diagonal? Yeah. Okay, that's diagonal. Diagonal alley. Clever. Diagonal stripes are widely considered one of the most flattering and swimming clothing patterns. Yeah. I don't have anything diagonal stripes.
I know, you have all horizontal and like one or two verticals. But a diagonal stripe. Now thank you.
I have any vertical stripes. You're wearing one right now. Oh. What?
Yeah. A diagonal stripe. Now think about like you've got a couple of really nice Calvin Klein dresses that I like a lot. Yeah. So if the top was diagonal one way and the bottom was diagonal the other way, that would be a really good looking dress. Disagree. I'm telling you.
Vertical stripes do not always make you look slimmer. And wider, poorly fit vertical lines can sometimes make your buddy appear whiter. I gotta get rid of this shirt. Why? One, I don't want to look whiter. Two, I already this morning said I hate this shirt. I forgot that I hate this shirt. Yeah.
And then you also said it matches the duvet. Yeah.
So it's gotta go.
It's got several strikes against it just in the past couple of minutes.
Sorry, shirt. This is the last day with me. Oh. You're gonna have a good time in it? Sure. I mean, it's a button up. And I thought it was cute, but you know how people like would wear a button up and then they would tuck one side of it in, and so one side is left hanging out.
Are people still doing that? Or is that like the French tuck thing? Kind of, but one side is out and one side is not. Here, I'll show you. I think that looks sloppy.
It looks like a half tucked in shirt.
Like this, right? It is a half-tucked in shirt. That's exactly what it is.
No, I know. If I don't know, you're asking the wrong guy. I don't know either. Fashion.
And also, I just don't care about fashion. So I almost want to. If it's fashionable, I will do the opposite and be like, everyone's doing that. I'm not gonna do that. I see. Because I'm a rebel. Oh. Is that right? Duh. You don't know that about me already. I guess I didn't.
I I didn't know that. Anyway.
So it's time for the shirt to go. Yeah. I'm sad about that. Why?
I just I thought you liked it. I mean, I thought I did too. Yeah. But I don't.
It's a lot of cloth.
Is this uh duvet shirt gonna make it through the whole day?
Well, yeah, I have to go to work.
Well, I just didn't know if you're gonna like drive home and change because you think you were that uncomfortable. You've done that before. Yeah. The shirt's not even gonna make it to lunch. It might not. Yeah. Bummer. Well. Sorry, shirt.
It's just a lot, it's a lot of cloth. I feel like the duvet.
I feel like the duvet.
Yeah, it almost feels circus tenty.
Wow. I would disagree. But I let's work it out. You're working it out. We already did. Things are gonna be okay. You're gonna be you're gonna make it through the day. Shirt.
You're gonna make it after. Wow. It's nice. Thank you. It's a good way to start.
Let's get you some good news going this morning. This is uh from Sunday, so just the day before yesterday. Uh, an ultra runner named Brady McDonald. He became the first person to run a 50K race in all 50 states over 50 consecutive days. Whoa. That is absolutely crazy. Well, on his feet.
I get that part. Holy moly.
And a 50K is is running 105Ks. So he ran 50K in all 50 states over 50 consecutive days, and along the way, he raised over a million dollars for the Make a Wish Foundation. Dude. Really cool.
That is really cool. But also, what a goal to have.
I know. Man. He crossed the finish line on his 50th and final 31 mile run in Hawaii and officially hit his one million dollar fundraising goal the very next day. Uh, all of his running and fundraising means that make a wish will be able to grant roughly 100 life-changing wishes for children battling uh you know critical illnesses across the country. Uh he thanked his family, his crew, his team, his friends, and every single person who ran with me, donated, shared, followed, or helped carry this mission forward. Uh Brady also said that he hopes to inspire others. He says, more than anything, I hope this journey showed someone what's possible when you commit to something bigger than yourself. Whatever your gift is, you can use it to help others. His is running. My gift is not running. Uh, but that's amazing.
That's a really incredible milestone that he achieved. Holy. Yeah.
And apparently broke a world record along the way as well. So way to go. Brady McDonald, first person to run a 50k race in all 50 states over 50 consecutive days. Wow. Pretty incredible. That's insane.
And good news. How early did you wake up? Because I woke up at 3 30. Why?
I woke straight up, eyeballs open, and I about had a panic attack. Why? Because I thought we forgot our daughter's birthday. It's tomorrow. It's tomorrow. It's not today.
At 3 30, it was almost too late. Oh no. And I ran downstairs. I grabbed supplies. I started taping up the door. You did not. I did.
Are you insane? I'm I was at 3 30 in the morning. I was about to get dressed and run to the store. I thought all the things had been forgotten. And I went, what is going on? And so I was taking care of stuff. And then I realized, wait a minute. Wait a minute, wait a minute. It's only Tuesday. It's only Tuesday. I probably for 35 minutes or so had been prepping stuff. No way. Yeah.
One, I did not hear any of this. None of it. I was out, out. I heard none of it. Two.
I was running around the house at 3 30 in the morning.
Two, you don't think that I would have been on the ball a little bit more?
I don't know that that's I wasn't blaming anybody. Okay. We went to bed. And sometimes we're like, I gotta stay up. We gotta wait. We gotta, because we we have all these traditions. So anyway, there's a bunch of this prepped out.
Just a little bit ago. You go, did I leave that birthday hat on the table? I think I did, though. I think it's still there. I didn't see it.
Yeah. I don't think it matters. It's just there.
That's how funny, Josh. How did you go? One, how did you realize that you did it was Tuesday? Correct.
It just hit me. And then I went, what am I doing?
And then how did you go back to bed? I didn't.
I went back and laid down, but I couldn't fall asleep until like, I don't know. It was a while. The alarms were going off when I was finally falling asleep.
Like it was it was rough. I'm sorry.
So yeah, I had uh I had an early, early morning. I heard none of it. Yeah. Well, I was trying to be quiet because we've been told in years past, you're not even quiet. So I was really, I was really trying to like be sneaky. Man. Man, oh man. It's tomorrow.
That's the pits, and I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. Yeah, I had a moment of like, oh, we didn't get that done.
Like it woke me up out of my sleep. And I went, I gotta hurry and do that. Got half the door. No, today is half the door decorated.
Today is someone's birthday. Yeah. Yesterday was your cousin's. Today it's my nephew's. That's right. Shout out to Caden. He sometimes he sometimes listens. He sometimes listens. I hope he's listening today. Caden. Okay. He's the coolest kid I know. So we have to shout him out. Sorry about that, Josh. I'll be okay. Think. I'm pretty sure.
Take a nap later. I don't know.
That's crazy. I wouldn't have been able to go back to sleep after all that emotion.
Barely did. I probably got another 30 minutes of sleep. Oh It's not much. it's not much. Yeah, you're gonna need a nap. Or early bedtime. Or both. But I bet I get neither. Because that's how it goes.
That's how life goes. Yep. I'll I'll sleep tonight at some point. So you're gonna go to bed early, which means I'm on solo duty for birthday.
I'm not going to sleep early. It's not gonna happen. I do have but half the door is prepped. You didn't take it down. No, I did. Oh. But I just rolled them up, so they're already short. Like they're ready to go. Brilliant. Yeah.
That's gonna save me so much time today.
Now I did like five. Like I got there's tons more to do. I couldn't find everything. I left stuff out in the craft room. I didn't go back down there and put stuff away. Oh, it's a mess down there anyway. Yeah.
I gotta get down there and clean. Anyway, I got started. Well, thanks. A day early. Saves me some time. Yeah. Preach. Yeah.
Anyway, we'll have to like finish our planning. Maybe, maybe that's it. Maybe we should coordinate on our planning a little better. That'd be great.
And then I do have to go do some shopping tonight.
Yeah, I was gonna go. I was gonna go in the middle of the night. No, nothing's open. I was uh there's 24-hour grocery store was gonna be it. It was gonna be all I had. I was gonna make it work. We got time. Today. Today. It's tomorrow. I know. I gave birth tomorrow. Right. The 16th.
She was born on the 16th. Yeah. No, I know that. You all you had to do was look on the calendar.
Not at 3 30 in the morning. I wasn't doing that. I woke up and I it was too late. I thought I was having like a reverse 16 candles.
But you passed the calendar on your way to the basement to get the supplies. In the dark. Oh. And turn on all the lights. Wah, wah. All righty. Anyway. Now I can exhale. It's okay. It's tomorrow.
We'll do the thing tonight. Got it. Okay. This is a serious question. Serious.
Am I? Do you consider me a mouth breather? I said it was serious. I need to know. What? I asked Emory last night. What'd she say? She said, what? Yeah, no kidding.
What kind of question is this? Because listen to me. I was doing stuff in the kitchen and I was all alone and it was a little bit quiet. And then I could hear myself breathing. And I went, do I breathe with my mouth open?
Am I a mouth breather? It was a real question. That's a real question. I want to know the answer to. When you're working out. Yeah. Okay. And you're doing some laborous breathing.
Do you feel like you're only breathing in and out of your mouth, or can you focus on bringing air in through your nose and out through your mouth when you're working out? Like if you're on the treadmill or the elliptical or a bike.
I feel like I'm mostly breathing out of my mouth, but I feel like I can breathe out.
In and out of your mouth.
No, I guess I'm breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. You sure about that? I don't know. That's what I'm asking.
I haven't paid attention. I don't know what's going on in your face. No, seriously.
You are the one who should be paying attention. I'm doing my own thing.
There are reasons why you might be a mouth breather. Okay. If you have a nasal obstruction, if you have allergies and illness, if you have enlarged swollen tonsils or adenoids, or out of habit. If you are a mouth breathing patterns that persist even after nasal congestion clears, you've just built up a habit to breathe out of your mouth.
I feel like that could be me. How do I get this taken care of?
Focus on breathing through your nose. Just close your mouth sometimes.
Um you said that I was sawing logs last night.
Yeah, and you said no, I wasn't. I'm a lady, and I went, a lady who saws logs.
That's typical. Snoring is typical of mouth breathers. Why are you stressed out about this? Because I don't want to be a mouth breather. Then close it.
You could tape it shut at night. They make that. I know they do. Okay.
Is that how you train yourself? Is that how you train yourself? Train yourself to not be a mouth breather.
No, I put on a CPAP mask and then I fall asleep. Not last night. And listen. And then when my mouth if my mouth opens, it goes full of air. So you have to keep it shut.
Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna work on this. Look at me, breathing through my nose right now. It's much quieter.
You can hear yourself breathing, you said. Yeah. Was and it alarmed you?
It didn't alarm me, but
I'm enough for you to ask a couple people. Enough for me to go breathe through your mouth. Listen. I'm not trying to bring your sister into this, but the two of you both have a thing where when you're sitting docile, your mouth is open. Like if you're just looking at something.
It's an open mouth thing. The other day I was walking to the truck and you were sitting in the truck. I said I had to take the grocery cart back. And I walked back to the truck and you were watching me, and your mouth was like, Yeah.
And I opened the door, I said that was not smiling. You did not have upturned points at the end. You weren't like, look at him. You were just looking and your mouth was open, and I opened the door and went, close your mouth. What are you doing? Just sitting there.
Great. Now I'm gonna be thinking about this all day. All day? All day.
You're gonna have this like active awareness of whether your mouth is wide open or not. Yeah. Oh, great. It wasn't like like surprise. Whoa! It was just the comfortable position of your jaw is slightly a jar. Yeah. That's all.
It feels normal to do.
That's fine. I'm not I it was just funny. That's all.
Now I don't know what position to I'm trying to just rest my mouth. It just naturally falls open. Yeah.
Can't be bothered to flex that jaw muscle. No way. Too much work.
I don't do that. I know I don't do that. Do I? I don't know. Oh no. Now I'm concerned.
I don't think you're a loud breather. Okay. That's good to know. Thanks for saying that. I said one nice thing. Yeah, you did. One. Thanks. This is a strange question you brought up.
Yeah, well, I need to know the answer.
I I don't think you're a mouth breather. Okay. Oh, think. You don't think. But I haven't paid close enough attention. A surety.
Oh man. Now I gotta focus. I gotta focus on breathing out my nose. Try that.
You can breathe out your mouth, breathe in through your nose. Okay. Okay.
You showed me a video, and you said, I want you to watch this video. And it was a woman waxing some hair on her husband's back. And then you said, just watch it, just watch it. And then she pulled the strip, the waxing strip, and then he goes, You said to me, watch how quickly she pushes her hand down after she removes the hair.
Yes. She was immediate responsive. Like that is listen, I she's like a pro. I I shouldn't compare professional to the casual eyebrow plucker.
I'm not saying I'm a pro, but I am saying that I push on the hair really quickly after I remove it.
By the time you do, the pain is half gone. And sometimes you miss the spot.
Okay, well, then that's why you have to push on it.
Hey, no, that makes no sense. Yes, it does. No, because I'm trying to brace myself for the pain that's about to happen. I don't enjoy the eyebrow plucking. I appreciate it. Because I don't want to look like a maniac with crazy stray eyebrow hair.
Find somebody else to do it, a professional who's gonna push. Listen to me. When you want her to push, listen to me. And in the right place where you want her. Listen to me. No, I well.
When she was doing the wax on the back thing, it was like in the small of his back. Yeah. And it was it was a quite a bit of hair. Yeah.
Exactly. But she uh she spread out the wax with the little like uh popsicle stick thing, and then she had flipped up the edge and she's like, Are you ready? And I was laughing because this guy was not ready. Like, no matter how many times she said, Are you ready?
He was never gonna be ready. And so she just kind of went three, two, one rip, right? And but she had her left hand right on his back so that when she pulled, her hand was already there. It's one fluid motion. Right. When you pluck your other hand's nowhere nearby. So yes, it is too. So you pull the hair and then you go, and then I'll push. And you're pushing on like my forehead or
somewhere we're flying because I am pushing so fast.
It's it's a few.
And my hand is there because this hand is holding my right hand is holding the tweezers. Yeah, my left hand is kind of like fiddling around with the hair, like, oh yeah, that's the long one.
And then I go it's just there's a too much of a delay, and then I go tweeze, push.
Yeah, it should be one twee push. It's one sentence, one word, twee push. Yours is tweeze, push. See the delay? That's that's the problem.
No, forget about it. I'm not this isn't happening again.
Then you're gonna look at me and you're gonna go, those eyebrows, you gotta do something about that. And I'm gonna go, this is the way I am.
No, you have to do it. You have to twease your own eyebrows.
I don't have to look at myself all the time. You're gonna have to look at these crazy eyes.
eyebrows. That's such a lie because sometimes you ask me to do it.
Oh, because They'll like hang down into my vision. It drives me crazy.
Hey, can you get your tweezers? Because I've got some and I go, no, that's what I'm gonna say from now on. No, do it yourself. Because you're gonna push. You're gonna twease push. You don't like my tweeze push. See how slow.
It's a it's a wax push. You gotta be there right there on it. That's how you alleviate the uh pain by comforting it.
I'm gonna take a video of me doing that sometimes because you are such a baby. Even dude, women do this every day. I do it one.
while I watch TV. I know. You're crazy people. And I never have to push.
Every time I do it to you, you go, ah it hurts so much.
And you're also getting like six hairs in there. The lights never write. Like I can't even see. Turn this way, and you're yanking my head all around. You're very aggressive when you do it, like you're enjoying it.
I do. If you want full honesty, I do kind of enjoy it. Shoving my head around. No, pulling some hair out. Yeah, I enjoy it. Satisfying. To give me the pain. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's not the worst way to spend an evening.
By making me go, ah. It hurts.
I know it hurts. I do it all the time to myself. But I do appreciate it.
Because I look like a like a non-crazy eyebrow person. Yeah, I don't want that. Right. I don't want that on you. Right. I don't want to look at it. And as I get older, they're getting they're gonna get crazier.
I know, Josh. I know. So you gotta, you just gotta start getting some thicker skin. Or tweez push. No. One word. Fine. I tweeze you push.
No, I can't see where to push. I can't just have my whole hands on my eyebrows.
Just fine do it. If you keep them close right here, like by your eyes. No. And then I tweet, and then you just automatically go. No. Oh, push.
It's it's not the same. You tweez, I push. I need the nurturing touch.
You twease, I push. That's how am I gonna do that? That makes no sense.
Anyway, she's she's very talented. She looked like she knew what she was doing, is what I was saying.
She also had a bigger patch of hair. So she had her whole hand down there. That's nice. I have to get a finger. You can do your whole hand. Okay, I'll try that. Just don't smack it. Nope. That's what you said too. You're so aggressive. Nurturing, I think is what you mean to say. You're so nurturing.
Aggressive nurturing. I love you so hard. Like, stop. Take it down a notch.
Clean the house or we do projects around the house. We often have music going. And over the weekend, I was doing some stuff inside the house, and you were outside working on your on your smoker pulled pork thing. And I had some music going while I was cleaning, and it was a little bit upbeat and a little bit loud. And then together we joined forces and we tackled the garage.
Yeah, because you were working on stuff. This was early. Like I mean, I got up pretty early and started doing you know the meat project and stuff. And as you kind of we kind of got the morning going. I was cleaning up my mess. And then you were like, yeah, I'm gonna start diving into the some inside chores, and I kept working on outsides. I was working in the garden, I was doing some yard stuff. So yeah, you had the house, and you you kind of turned that into your cleaning domain. But then by what uh afternoon time or so, we'd moved on into the uh because we did carpet cleaning, we did a bunch of stuff. And then we'd moved into let's work on the garage, which is a fun annual project.
It should happen more often than just annually. Yeah. I think that's a big problem, is it's it's a catch-all. It is. Um, and so you turned on some music in the garage. Yeah, and it was not my playlist. Correct.
That is correct. Because you had uh quite the upbeat eclectic all over the place, but you've got like a little alternative rock in there, you got some hip hop, you got some different generations in there, and I literally I got when I tell the smart speaker, we got the Google speakers, and I and I say, uh, you know, play music, and it pulls up my playlist, it is folksy. It is uh it's like I have a playlist called Backpacks and Waiters, uh, and it's uh it's my outdoor playlist and it's music.
It is very it's sitting by the river, enjoying the afternoon music.
Oh yeah, and it's quiet. That's right. And there's nothing wrong with it. There's a lot of music I like from your playlist, and sometimes I'll be listening, I'll be like, oh, what is this? I like this. And I'll add it to my playlist. Right. But that's not typically when I tell the speaker, hey.
No, when you say play music, it's like it's yeah, you never know what you're gonna get, really. You got a grab bag.
I do have a crab bag, but uh
but it's stuff you can always sing along to, like it's yeah, but my stuff is very like I'm just gonna chill out. Yeah, I'm at a different uh frequency than you.
We're never going to I operate down here in these slow wavelengths, and you're up here like Yeah. And I'm down here like hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
If that doesn't explain our different personalities, yeah. What did we took a personality test last week? We're a double opposite.
We are a double opposite. Yeah. In a lot of ways.
But I think we balance each other out. Yeah. Because when you're like, hey, hey, hey, hey, I'm like, let's go. And you're like, hey, hey, hey, be chill, be chill. I'm like, be pumped. And then together we can kind of find a middle ground. Yeah.
Like middle earth. We do have crossover in our playlist. Yeah. There's a few things. Like one song came on, you got disrupted, so you had it play it again so that you could hear the parts you like of the song. Like that happens often.
Oh, that happens all the time. I can't stand when I'm in the car and there's a really good song that comes on, and and somebody's in the car with me and they want to chit chat through the song. I'm like, oh no, no. We just have to listen to this song. Cool. Oh no, no. It's not talk time. Nope.
It is. Hold on, you've got to wait three and a half minutes so I can listen to this song.
Or I'll push pause and I'll be just waiting. Like, okay, get out.
You really want to get to this song. Get out what you're gonna say. Yeah, okay.
And people are like, you've heard the song 60 times. And I go, I know. It doesn't even matter.
Time number 61 is gonna be great.
They're all gonna be great. Now, would you hurry up and finish talking so I can listen to the song? Yeah. I like music. I like listening to music. I like music. I when you turn on your playlist and it was pretty slow and and mellow, I was like, we're never gonna get anything done because this music is too mellow. How is this gonna pump us up to get anything done?
I don't do the pumped up thing. Like I know people will go to the gym and they'll be like, I got a gym playlist and it's full of like really high tempo, or they're listening to like angry, you know, metal music or whatever while they're trying to like lift heavy stuff.
Not me. What do you listen to? The same stuff. Same playlist. Yeah, or podcast podcasts of people talking and stuff. Like I can work out without having my music drive me forward.
Oh, I like a good BPM. Nah. Because I like to get in the flow of it. Oh, yeah? Yeah. Okay.
You're kind of jazzer sizing right now. That's how I exercise.
I do a little jazz or size. A little uh what was that called? Prancer size.
That's it. That's the stuff. If you don't know prancer size, you haven't been on the internet. Look it up. She is a talented woman. And that's the moves you were just doing. You were prancer sizing.
Chair prancer sizing. That's right. You can do it in a chair. You can.
You can prancer size anywhere. Sure thing. Anyway. Yeah, I don't uh I don't often. I mean, there are times I get a little bit rowdy. When I don't know. Sometimes. But then I listen to my slow stuff more often.
I don't know when I've ever seen you rowdy. Yeah. Get rowdy. Yeah, you are.
I don't know. I there's gotta be a time I was rowdy.
You're even keel. Pretty much.
Even when I'm listening to rowdy music, I'm still like, yeah, this is good.
I don't know if I even have ever heard you listen to rowdy music.
We just put on one of my favorite bands the other day. And you're like, I don't remember the last time you listened to this band.
Yeah, but even then, you don't get rowdy when you listen to it.
I was amped up.
No, I don't know. I don't know what your definition of amped up is. Wasn't that because you just quietly just listen. Yeah. What I'm like, yeah. I'm not in the band.
But you have to pretend you are. No. Oh, I do. I know you do. I just listen to the band. I go, I like this song. The song's good. I might sing along here and there, but I'm not like. oh I'm in the band Oh, I constantly do that.
I'm always in the band. I know that about you. I do know that about you.
You are in the band. I haven't heard much practice and coming out of the garage. Bro, it's been two days. Listen to me. I worked really hard over the week.
I know you did. To to clean up some space. This was on Saturday. I know. It's been three days. Today's day three. I know, I know, but listen to me.
We had football on Sunday. Yesterday we had work all day, and then I went with you to a a scout thing.
Do you need a bucket to carry all these excuses? Bro. I'm just trying to give you some accountability. I know you want to improve on your drum skills. And now you have the full drum kit. Every part of it set up. I know. In the garage. Because I started go for you.
Just the bass drum, the high hat and the snare. Right.
And that's it. That's why I felt like I was just gonna teach you some basic rhythm things because it's a lot when you start looking at it. Two toms, a floor tom, extra symbols. There's a lot more to kind of think about. Right. And I didn't want you to have to worry about all that. So I was trying to give you less to focus on. Because it it when you sit behind a full kit, you go, what does all this do?
Oh no, I know what all of it does.
I didn't it all goes bang bang bang bang bang.
I did a little bit the other day when you had it all set up.
Just kind of making sure it was comfortable to sit at, but you didn't really like put in like an hour's worth of practice. No. So we gotta get that going. I know, Josh. How are you gonna improve if you're on practice?
Josh. I don't need you hounding me, Dad.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
You didn't even pay for any drum lessons.
So I did find uh a new YouTube channel for you. You did? I did that I think you'll like. Okay. Um, it's got some uh some good instructional videos. Okay.
How come you're so invested in me learning to play the drums?
Because it's something you want to do, and I'm supporting your passion. You're welcome.
Wow. Sorry about the ease up comment. Yeah. Thanks. Thanks for being supportive. Yeah.
I'm trying to push you forward in your desire to be a drummer.
I do, but I also still feel like it's more of a winter activity because the garage can be too cold.
I know.
I know I'm making excuses. I really am. Another one for the bucket. I know. And listen to me. There was a couple of weeks ago we went out camping with my brother-in-law, and he was giving me a little bit of a flack, and he was like, How long is this gonna last? And I was like, you just wait. Yeah. Reverse psychology, huh? Yeah, I kind of don't like when people tell me I can't do something because that makes me want to do it more. So I keep repeating what he said in my mind.
Yeah. And then I go, watch. Oh, you watch. Uh-huh. So I don't want to quit because I know he expects me to. Yeah. Well, put in the work. I know.
Don't yell at me for being supportive of your passion.
I appreciate it. Thank you for setting up the drum kit because I really haven't practiced in a while because I didn't know where to practice, and now I have a spot.
Well, because it was kind of taking up a big chunk of the living room and it was it was awkward, and we talked about putting it downstairs, but that was gonna eat up like a big chunk of your crack.
It was gonna be loud.
Right. Well, it's still gonna be loud. I know it is, but
at least it's not inside the house.
Our son even tuned it. I know you did. He'd spent time like making sure that the drum heads were tuned. Like it's it sounds really good. It does sound like it's ready to go. You gotta get in there and start learning some stuff.
The problem is, too, you sat down and you played a couple of pieces. I don't know. I don't know what to call it. A couple of riffs. Sure. Beck sat down, played a couple of riffs. Both of you are already, neither one of you had had any practice, and you're already good at it. No.
And so I feel like I told you my cousin was a drummer. He took drum lessons. I played on his kit when I was a kid. I'm still playing the same thing that was imprinted in my brain as I want to be cool like my cousin a hundred years ago.
Yeah. So it's not I'm not doing anything new. I'm not learning anything.
I'm just doing what I've learned a long time ago. I could do more. I could learn more. I could I could be better on time.
Like there are five fundamentals to drumming, and I could work on each one of these pillars and actually be a good drummer. I gotta send you this video I watched. It's a good one. You're gonna like it. Okay.
If I didn't have to work and I could just stay at home and practice, that'd be great. Even my boss yesterday was like, Are you a drum master yet? And I was like, No, because I have to be here. You make me come in every day. You're like, go to work.
You won't just pay me to practice drums. What are you doing? Yeah. Well, and you have access to a good handful of actual drummers, people that we know. I know that you could say, hey, let me get a lesson here or there.
I could think of five people off the top of my head that we know that I'm like, hey.
The drum in bands. Like you're real drummers.
They are real drummers. I know it. I know it. I know it. And one of them I've even already talked to, and I'm like, hey, will you teach me? He's like, yeah, absolutely. Say when. I'm like, okay. Say when. Say when. Yeah, that's a that's a quote from Tombstone. Doc Holiday. All right.
Which is a good name for the drum kid. Yeah, it is. It's gotta have a name. Well, Doc Holiday. It's a good name. That is a good name. Yeah. No, it's not that. All right. Well. I'll practice today. I have time.
I have time today. I'm gonna put it in the calendar. One hour At least. One hour. Okay. I can commit one hour. I'm gonna put it in the calendar. All right. That means what? What?
That you'll get a reminder that you should be practicing that you can swipe away, and then you go, I can't do that now.
No, I'm gonna hold myself to it. Why are you Hey, hey, hey, hey, you're all Hey I'm supporting you. I don't like it.
You don't like it? You don't like the way I'm supporting you?
Drum lesson in the calendar. All right. 6 p.m.
Nice. Um, I you often call me a raccoon because you think that I like to throw trash around, and by trash you mean trash talk. That is correct.
But it's nonsensical trash talk. It has no strategy, it's just word soup, and you throw it everywhere. And then you're like, yeah, look at it. I talked all this trash, and you look out at the lawn and it's just covered in a bunch of garbage, and you're like, my empire. That's you. And you're sitting on like a strung out hay bale as a raccoon, like, yes, I did all of this, and you can't combat me because look at all the trash I threw out. And then one thing happens to your team, and they come back with like a well, what about that? And you go, I'll clean up the yard. That's the metaphor that I apply to how you handle competition and talk about football specifically, um, or any trash talk, but especially football.
Okay. Let me. I posted a picture of me watching the Vikings game.
Yeah, it just kicked off on the end of the day. Went really bad right after that picture. It did. Immediately went bad. And I went, you're gonna post that picture right now when your team is doing not good. But okay.
Our Kevin our Kevin, our Kevin. Our boss Kevin immediately responded to the picture because he's a Packers fan. That's right. And he said, boo, and I immediately said, Oh, you're gonna come at me. Yeah, here we go.
Yeah, here comes Oscar the Grouch straight out the can.
Yeah, I said, ew, you're a Packers fan. You already knew. Yeah, I did. Uh, and then I did a throw up emoji face. Yeah. And then he said, Yep, go pack go. And I, in the car, we were driving somewhere, and in the car, I said, I'm gonna write double puke. Yep. And the kids from the back seat go, you're gonna write double puke.
Yeah, you're not just gonna use two puke emojis like a normal person. You're gonna write the words double and puke. And you did.
Both of our kids said, if you type that, he wins because that automatically makes him cooler. Don't write that. And I thought, I am gonna write that. You did. Guess what I did? I did. And one person laughed. Yeah, I got a laughy. Wow.
So you're hanging your hat on that one laugh reaction.
And it's a person I know. So your one laugh reaction is all it takes.
And you're like, yeah, see, I'm justified. My trash talk was good. This front yard looks immaculate. Look at all the garbage I have thrown about. I'm good. Gaze upon the garbage in this yard. For I have tossed it there. That is you. King of Trash Mountain.
I am the king of trash mountain. I absolutely am. There is back with Beckwith, there. Used to be uh a video that he liked to watch. It was Elmo and Grouchland. Yeah. And Mandy Petinkin was the king of Trash Mountain. So yeah, I'm happy to be with Mandy Petinkin. For sure. In Trash Mountain. In Trash Land. Uh-huh. Well. Double puke. Don't write that, Mom. He wins if you write that. Don't. And I said, I did.
And it got one laugh reaction, and that's all it took. It was mostly like, I just, you can't tell me what to do.
Don't tell me how to trash talk. Kids. You don't know my life. All righty.
I'm Not a hundred percent sure you trust me. Even though you said trust fall, and then uh tried to do a trust fall, but you still don't trust me.
Okay, but you are the person I trust the most. And you still don't trust me. I I think it's more of I don't trust myself. What does that even mean?
I don't know. Because in a trust fall, you stand straight up, you cross your arms, put your hands on your shoulders, like you're going down a water slide. And then you fall back. Correct.
Not forward. You fall back, and the person behind you that you are in trusting catches you. Yeah. And the idea is you stay in water slide formation the whole time. But you can't. Your arms come out like you gotta catch yourself every time.
Because I've been let down by too many people.
I've never let you down enough for you to go, I can't trust fall. I know. But you've never been able to trust fall. We've been together for a lot of years. I know you can't trust fall.
I know. And I know that it's an issue because I know if I can't do it with you, then I certainly cannot do it with anybody else.
Right. You've had opportunities in different uh leadership scenarios and trainings and stuff with your team to where you've been up on a platform and had to like do the thing and fall back and have them catch you and you opt out. Yeah. You're like, no way, these people aren't gonna catch me. No. You're like, everyone's gonna move and I'm gonna hit the ground.
They wanted to meet they wanted me to do that at a church camp once when you were a youth. Uh-huh. Okay. With uh there were three other girls, my same mates. Only three. Uh-huh. And they weren't always not very nice to me. And they were like, let's do a trust fall. And I went, you are mental if you think
I'm gonna trust them to catch me. Sure. Okay.
So I said, no, thank you. I'm not gonna do that. Yeah. Did they do it? Oh, yeah. And you caught them? Yeah. because I was I was a nicer person than them. They were mean to me. So I you think I'm gonna trust them to catch me. Clearly, you don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
What's going on behind the scenes? They were mean. Yeah. Yeah. What did they say?
Oh, lots of things to me.
They did. Or were did they did they not say things, but they in your head you thought they were saying things. Both. Okay. I just I've known you a lot of years, and sometimes in your head people say stuff about you, but they actually don't say that.
Well, the reason I know that people are mad at me is because I make it up in my head and then I believe it.
Yeah, no, I get it. I I've known you a lot of years. I said that.
No, but they were mean outwardly and in my head. Yeah. They said things to me before that were mean. Did they? Yes. Like anyway. Like your hair. What did they say?
Your face. What did they say?
I'm not, I'm not rehashing that. Okay. What we're gonna talk about is how I can learn to trust you. And I do trust you. I trust you.
Your rapid arm flailing movements say otherwise.
Okay, but here's what happened because I did I did fall, and I had my arms in water slide position. Right. And your hands were not, they were lower than I expected them to be. Isn't that up to me? Yeah, I think you did that intentionally. But isn't that up to me? Where I catch you is in my control. Yeah. You being caught is in my control.
You trusting that I will catch you eventually is what you've got to overcome. Yeah.
Yeah, that's true.
That's the trust part of the fall. You see. So uh I think we should uh we should try again. Okay. But you should also be blindfolded. Oh, are you insane? So that you can't. You gotta, you gotta just trust. Uh okay.
I I would not do this with anyone else either. Like I don't trust anyone more than I trust you. What has to be you?
What if instead of water slide? What if you tea pose? What's a T pose? Just arms straight out like a T.
Oh, okay. I was thinking a teapot. Yeah.
Why don't you stand like a teapot and then fall back? And whistle the whole time, just so I know that you're ready. Okay. As you fall.
I actually think that might be easy to be.
Because I think you you, I think are thinking that I'm not gonna be capable of catching you. Not that I won't, but that I might not be able to for some reason. Yeah. And so maybe if you're in this position and you know I've got like forklift arms, you'll feel more confident in the catchability. Okay.
That's I actually think that might work better. Yeah, me too.
And then we'll work our way to water slide. Okay. And blindfold. I think blindfold T Post. Blindfolds first step. You've got to remove your ability to look around and go, is he there? No, I know you're there. Do you? I absolutely do. Because I feel like it's a little Hadestown town where I don't I think you have to look back. I think you have to go, is he still there? No. You gotta trust that I'm there.
That's not the thing. I know you're there. I absolutely know you're there. Because I'm going, la la la.
That's how you know. What a great song he wrote. They could have written anything. And they went with that.
Yeah, who wrote this? Who wrote this musical? This is the best song you could think of. Okay, we'll give it a shot. I'll give it another try. Will you be there? Trust that I will.
Hey, would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have an extra arm or an extra leg? Arm. Why? Let's hear it. Let's hear your reasoning. What are you picking? I'm actually shocked that you answered that quickly because you usually have to say, well.
I did give it some thought. I will explain myself in a minute. Go ahead with what you're picking. One, two, three, three, two, one, go. I'm gonna pick an extra arm. Why? Because I could do so much stuff. That's exactly why I'm picking it. Imagine all the things I could get done with a third arm. I know. Man, all so many things. So many things. Yeah. I don't want three legs.
Where would your extra arm be located? Is that relevant? Yes.
I would assume I would have a third shoulder. No. You'd have to. Yeah. In order for it to have full range of motion. Yeah. So I would have a maybe if if it's on the left, I have like a shoulder toward the back and a shoulder toward the front. Okay.
You see? And then I have two appendages. I want them to be normal sized. I wouldn't want a small arm.
That would be pointless. Just a little one hanging off like a doll arm. I don't want that. I want a fully functional normal sized arm. You can't change it now. It's too late. And I also don't want it to be like super long. That would be strange too.
Like a doll arm. That is so funny.
I don't want a third doll arm hanging off of me. I'd have to have that removed. Or I would tell everybody they get a baby high five. And it would just be my little arm. And go, baby high five.
You'd have to get specialized clothes.
Or I would just have to have a cute little sleeve sewn in on my on my shoulder. Yeah. For the little arm to stick out. I want a full-sized real arm. Okay. Why don't you want a third leg, an extra leg?
I'm just thinking about pants. Yeah. And I'm not into that. Having a walk around like that.
Do the two on the outside move and the one in the middle is separate. Like, how's that function? Um I don't I don't there's too much to figure out. I don't want to have to buy a third shoe. I don't want yeah would it be a right or left? Or straight.
Or straight.
A straight foot. It doesn't have it. It's just toes. There's no big toe. It's just toes and straight foot. that's true Strange, right? I don't want that. I want the arm. I could do so much stuff. Now why are you picking arm?
Because I could do so much stuff. I already said.
Yeah, I know, but why not a leg? For all of the reasons you said. Yeah, because of my own logic. Yeah. See, and I thought it all out too. And just quickly.
You did. I was impressed by how quickly you uh logistically thought that out. I'm pretty good at it. Would you rather this or that?
So there is something very exciting going on uh in in the neighborhood. And you uh I I guess didn't know about I did not know about it. I was very aware. Um I was aware of it last year, uh, and I was aware of it earlier this year, and I was aware that it was happening now, and uh, and you were not, but then you were surprised when I was like, oh yeah, yeah, I'm very aware.
It is the world fly fishing championship. It is happening in eastern Idaho and parts of Montana and Wyoming right now. Um, in our general neck of the woods.
But it is based out of Idaho Falls. Uh and it's happening for you know the next week or so. Um and uh it's really exciting because it's a multi-day fly fishing championship competition. And these happen all over the world, and there are uh competitors from I mean a good chunk of countries. There's uh if I look really quick, you said there was a 21 different countries.
A man from Slovenia.
Well, there's a whole team from Slovenia. There's uh Poland, Slovenia, France, England, US, Belgium, Czech Republic, Spain, Finland, Wales, Australia, Slovakia, Scotland, Lithuania, Ireland, Italy, South Africa, Canada, the Netherlands, Mongolia, and Japan. That's so cool. Yeah. So there are 21 different countries represented uh in the world fly fishing championship. Yesterday was day one. They had opening ceremonies, a bunch of different stuff. They did a parade around the green belt, uh, which is really super cool. super cool. In Idaho Falls? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There's all kinds of stuff going on. I had no idea. Absolutely. Yeah, this is uh this is very cool. Why weren't we there?
Uh we were busy on the opening ceremony. I think the opening ceremonies happened on Sunday, I think. Anyway, there we were just there's stuff going on. We should have gone. I we were occupied. We were elsewhere.
We were having birthday dinner. Uh, and that's fine. But uh this is what's going on. So it's going on the 13th through the 19th, so there's still many more days of competition. It wraps up this weekend. There's a closing ceremony and stuff like that as well at the Greenbelt stage uh in Idol Falls, right there. That's where it's all kind of centered around. Yeah.
Uh but anyway, that's the circle. The standings as it is right now. Uh Team USA is uh currently in fifth place uh overall. This is the overall standings.
Uh Poland is in first, Slovenia is in number two, France, England, and then Team USA is in number five uh as of the end of day one. Now there are five different fisheries around the area. Some of it is uh river or uh stream, some of it is lake um on the bank, some of it is lake on a boat. So that so there's multiple different fishing styles in these different fisheries uh across the region. So uh as you kind of look at the scores, it's kind of interesting because I've been looking at like the different fisheries and the fish that have been caught and how big the fish are caught. Um session one in sector one, which is the Henry's Fork Bank Fishing Day one, USA leads that section, which is awesome. Michael Bradley uh is uh is doing it with a 42 centimeter fish, was his longest fish.
He caught 40 fish. That's crazy. Which is pretty awesome. Uh and he's currently in uh in first place right there, which is which is really cool. Um, but the Teton River is uh one of the fisheries, uh, which is which is really cool. Um Yeah, you love to fish that. I do. I like Henry's Fork and I like the Teton, they're both great. Um Hebgen Lake on the boat, Grays River on the bank, Sheridan Lake in a boat, um, are these fisheries uh and all of these day one scores are you know tabulated today is day two, they're out fishing, and I wish I was out fishing.
I know you said I wish that I had volunteered to help.
Well, so yeah, so they have to have people like controllers that like measure the fish and count the fish as they come in. Like you have minimum length requirements, and the entire thing's catch and release, so all the fish get put back, which is awesome. It's uh barbless hooks, it's a healthy fishing thing.
Uh it's really, really super cool. Um, and uh and there were volunteer opportunities. Uh this year is uh is the men's competition. Last year was the women and the junior competition in the same fisheries. So that's why I knew about it last year uh when it was the women's championship and the uh the youth junior competition, and then this year is the men's and the women and the youth are at the next fishery, so they get to go first, and then the the men kind of follow after in the same fisheries, which is a year later.
So anyway, it's really cool. You should have volunteered. I I would love to count fish.
I would have loved to have gone to some of these fisheries. I don't know why you did it. I didn't want to take the time off. I've I felt busy. Loser. It's it's because of the date. It's because it's if I was gone on our daughter's birthday, it would be bad.
That's true.
And so I've made several sacrifices this year specifically due to tomorrow being our daughter's birthday. You're right. You're right. So I've there are uh two different outside.
Way to be a good dad that I had to go.
I would really love to go do this, but I need to not do that because I need to be around. So well, that's cool.
Good luck to those dudes.
Yeah, yeah. It's uh it's underway right now, and uh, and uh if you want to stay updated, um, you can follow uh fly fishing team USA on Facebook if you want to keep up with what's going on. It's cool. Lance Egan uh is a guy that uh he's a really well-known fly tire um out of Utah, and he uh and a couple other guys are putting together uh video recaps, and they're along um uh along with all the fisheries and stuff. So there's a whole YouTube series about the championship and stuff that's going on.
I'm I'm excited to watch that uh when I get a few minutes. But uh anyway, day one is done. We're on day two today, and uh currently team USA is in fifth place. There you go. Keep you updated as they catch more fish.
If you care. Please do. Yeah. Uh we don't have to do a whole thing, but I I I would like to keep myself updated. I'm watching it. I've got it pinned on my uh on my browser.
So I'm staying up to date all the time. But anyway, let's wrap up today's show. Have a great rest of your Tuesday.
We'll see you back here tomorrow, middle of the week, Wednesday. You're just yawning it off. Yeah, you've had enough. All right. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
