I explain that after switching my weekly newsletter from Buttondown to Patreon earlier this year, I’m moving it back to Buttondown because Patreon's interface didn’t work well for me. I also added a Stripe link for one-time donations - thanks listener Void and Crazy! And I wrote a blog post recommending AppleTV shows.

What is Daily(ish)?

Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.

Chris: Hello, and welcome to
Daily-ish for September 12th, 2026.

I'm endeavoring to record an episode every
day for this, my 50th year on the planet.

Long before I had a Daily-ish podcast
that I was trying to do every day, I had

a weekly newsletter that I was trying to
do every week, on most Tuesdays anyways.

And for the longest time, I'd been using
a service called Buttondown to send

out the email, just an email newsletter
service, kind of like Mailchimp, but

at a sort of more indie level app.

And in the summer, spring, summer of this
year, I made the decision to switch that

service to Patreon, which I already use.

I have a Patreon campaign, which is kind
of like where you can do fundraising

or crowdfunding or creator support
kind of l- stuff on an ongoing basis.

It's still there.

It'll still be there after
all this has changed.

But they have a newsletter service,
and I th- thought I could switch to

using that to send out my newsletter.

The service kind of works fine.

It just doesn't work great for me.

And so after not sending the email
out for months, actually, I've decided

to switch back to using Buttondown.

And so in a long post, which I'll link
on my blog, I'll link in the show notes

too, you can read why if you're curious.

But basically, I just didn't
really enjoy using Patreon's

interface to send out the email.

So I also had some automation stuff that
I built in using the link collecting

service I use called Raindrop that allowed
me to sort of build out a quick list of

links to add to the newsletter each week.

That didn't work very well with Patreon.

And Patreon kind of like if you say, "Hey,
sign up for my newsletter on my Patreon,"

it kind of implies that it's gonna be,
at least for internet culture anyways,

that it's gonna be a paid service.

Like you…

Patreon is how you fundraise or crowdfund,
and so if you're sending a newsletter

with Patreon, the implication is that
you're gonna send money or need to send

money to be able to get the newsletter.

Plus, you have to sign up for an account.

You can't just use your email address
already like you can with Buttondown.

all that to say is back on
Buttondown, looking forward to

sending out a newsletter on Tuesday
this next week and getting back

on the email newsletter horse.

And like I said, you can still support
me if you like on patreon.com/ichris.

No need to do that.

It's kind of just a way to allow folks
who want to contribute and help out

or buy me coffee or whatever for the
various things that I put out into the

world on the internet, but not needed or
required in order to get the newsletter

And there was also a listener
of the podcast, I think.

I'm trying to remember now
which way they found me online.

But anyways, either a listener of
the podcast or the newsletter who

asked about one-time donations.

And so I did set up a Stripe link
that's linked in the show notes as

well, uh, which you can do if you're
wanting to do a one-time donation.

and Crazy for their supports

But again, I need to stress that there
are plenty of people with more urgent

and pressing needs for monetary support.

This is kinda just like you'd like to
send me a coffee or whatever for thanks.

The other blog post I decided to write
today was kind of a busy, busy on the

computer anyway Saturday, uh, was a
question I keep coming up against on

social media where basically it's someone
who has signed up for Apple TV for the

sole purpose of watching generally,
let's say, "Ted Lasso," but it might be

one other series that they've watched
or wanted to watch on Apple TV and

have no idea what else to check out.

And so I'm a pr- big fan actually of, uh,
Apple TV series, especially the TV series.

Um, their movies are kinda hit and
miss, but the TV series are, they

have a lot that are quite good.

And in our family, like across the,
like between my wife and three kids,

all teenagers now, there's a lot
of series that we all really enjoy.

Some that some of us enjoy oth- more than
others or watch more or less than others.

But, um, so I thought I'd just blog,
write a blog post with the list of

shows that I've watched and enjoyed
and would recommend any of them to

people, as well as some of the movies
that we've watched and enjoyed.

So you can check that out.

I'd be curious to know what
shows on Apple TV you're into.

I can't remember what the actual
price is right now for Apple TV,

'cause we we're part of the Apple
One bundle with Apple Music and

Fitness and News and Games and stuff.

And so for a family of five, it kinda
makes sense to do it that way so we

can have a good iCloud backup, although
that's getting quite expensive these days.

what are you watching?

If you're watching anything on Apple
TV, what do you watch on there?

And did I miss something that
you think I should have caught?

I know one person on Threads, @ locant-
cantlon, I'm not sure how to say that

name out loud, but replied with, uh, well,
just the foundation artwork and bruh.

So I thought maybe reminded
me of, like, my kids' response

to many things that I say.

But anyways, they were saying that
Foundation on Apple TV is really good,

galactic sci-fi that's really good.

So, which I remember seeing way back
when the Apple TV first launched, and,

uh, just somehow fell off my radar.

But we'll check that out as well.

Add it to my to watch list on there.

you may be aware, uh, for Saturday.

I didn't anticipate how, uh, if the
stats are right, like let's say there's

20 to 30 subscribers to the show and
just a few people, not every episode,

but just a few people responding with
comments or questions or even an email,

and it's not, uh, not every episode
either, how much work that is to collect.

Which is, it's a fun thing to do, but,
um, makes me appreciate the shows that

have you know, hundreds, thousands of
listeners and get so many comments and

have to filter through all of those.

And often those kind of shows
obviously have, like, maybe a

production assistant or three.

But at any rate, it still is a lot
of, uh, appreciation for those kind

of shows trying to respond accurately
and well to all the comments and stuff

when I get three and I'm, like, feeling
overwhelmed as to how to respond.

So sorry if I miss your response
or forget to respond to something.

I will do my best.

I, I really actually, uh, enjoy and
appreciate that as part of doing a

podcast, but I know that daily is a lot
for both listener to keep up with as well

as me, the solo podcast editor, producer,
recorder person to keep up with as well.

So we'll give each other grace, hopefully.
