My mate in…

Looking for a cosy, comfortable place in Northcote, Melbourne, for a coffee and a pastry?

Ellis' Belly is a relatively new addition to the Northcote cafe scene, based on Simpson St not far from Dennis Station.

Next door is the Art Guide Bookstore.

Looking for other cafes to try in Northcote? One of my favourites is South Crescent Cafe - hear more in episode 1. These two cafes are just a train stop apart.

What is My mate in…?

Good vibes only conversations with people from all over about their ‘go to’ places for a drink or food.

The focus isn’t on what is fanciest or most impressive. It’s on what people genuinely enjoy and so go back for more.

Have a listen and try out the places if you can.

Jaz will also create bonus episodes to share positive food and drink experiences as she adventures through life. Don’t expect a formal review. Just descriptions of cool places with yummy food and drinks.

Hey there. Welcome to My Mate In... . This is a podcast that I use to tell folks about restaurants and bars and cafes that are worth checking out. Sometimes I talk to my mates in different places and sometimes I share Side Quests or places that I have found and enjoyed myself.

Today I want to tell you about a place called Ellis' Belly. This is a relatively new cafe that has popped up in Westgarth, and it's a short walk from Dennis Station. I like Ellis' Belly because the staff are really friendly. It's got a really warm, cozy vibe. The decor's really nice. It's like a little industrial with pollished cement floors, but it's also really warm. There's a lot of accents of white and pink flowers. This is a good place to grab a coffee and to have a pastry. They also have a breakfast menu as well. I've tried it a couple of times now and the coffee is good. The pastries are really yummy, and there's a nice mix of cakes.

So if you are walking around in Northcote, it is a little off the beaten track, a really comfortable, friendly, warm place to set up and read a book, talk with a friend without it kind of being too busy. It's also a nice place where you can feel like you can sit for a while and not have to leave as soon as you've finished eating, which is nice.

You'll find Ellis' Belly on Simpson Street in Westgarth, right near the primary school and next door in case you're interested, the folks who create the Art Guide Australia Magazine, have a bookstore that's opened up right there. It's been there for a little while now, and it's called The Art Guide Bookstore, and it's a curated collection of publications related to Australian art. The folks in there are really friendly as well.

Jaz (02:09):
Okay, I hope if you check it out that you enjoy it. Take care. Sending you all the best. Bye.
