Greetings and Welcome to The 405 Coffee Break with O.K. Solberg
New episodes tend to air over the local KMMR radio station @ 5 minutes past 4PM each M-F. And have been doing so, nearly every week since Sept 2018.
New episodes appear here usually within a few hours after that KMMR air time and been striving to post new releases here by 4:30PM.
I want to again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Beautiful day guys. Enjoy it. Get your cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat let's see, What is it? $6.28 a bushel. Top end for a 550lb steer calf Billings $4.35 a pound, and a 100lb fat lamb Billings not moving an inch $3.15 a pound. But guys, there's more. Much more.
OK Solberg:Okay. Okay. Every story has a beginning. Now that may seem like a fairly obvious statement, but apparently the English language has decided that saying something simply began isn't nearly enough.
OK Solberg:We can say it happened from day one or from the get go or from the word go. We can say it happened right out of the gate from the outset, from square one, from the ground up, or at the very start.
OK Solberg:We can tell you it happened at the dawn of something in the early days at the inception or when the whole thing got started. We can even say it happened when the wheels 1st started turning.
OK Solberg:And after all those carefully selected expressions, what have we actually told you? Absolutely nothing. We have established one very important fact. It began. That's it.
OK Solberg:We haven't told you whether it was successful. We haven't told you whether it was a good idea. We haven't told you whether anyone knew what they were doing. We haven't even told you whether the wheels that started turning eventually fell off.
OK Solberg:We simply march proudly to the starting line and announce that somebody somewhere at some point started something. And we English speakers aren't finished yet. We can tell you it began right out of the gate. Well naturally you wouldn't expect something to begin 3 quarters of the way through the gate.
OK Solberg:I love the English language. It has me fascinated. We can say it began at Square 1. That's useful information assuming you're planning to visit Square 2, 3, and 4.
OK Solberg:Or we can say it began from the ground up which is really reassuring because beginning from the roof down would be a rather difficult task. So here's the strange thing about all those expressions.
OK Solberg:They sound like you're given history but we're really just giving you a starting point. It's a verbal equivalent of saying once upon a time something happened and then walk away.
OK Solberg:So the next time someone tells you that something happened from day 1 from the get go right out of the gate from Square 1 or at the dawn of a new era, remember, you now know exactly where it began. You haven't got the faintest idea where it went.
OK Solberg:Please just laugh with me and all of that just because I thought you'd like to know. I'll close with a bible verse. It's the very 1st verse in the bible, so it's safe to say it's right at the beginning.
OK Solberg:Genesis 1 verse 1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Where? Genesis 1:1
OK Solberg:Now that beginning says something profound and relevant. So I'll end this story that was about the beginning with an ending you might be familiar with. I'm letting the class out early. Here it comes.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
