James Dooley Podcast

James Dooley and guest compare FatRank, Checkatrade and MyJobQuote to help tradespeople choose the right lead generation strategy and maximise return on investment.

Show Notes

This video explains which digital marketing strategies tradespeople should focus on in 2026 to improve cost per lead, conversion rates and overall return on investment. James Dooley and the guest start with KPI tracking because comparing subscription platforms like MyJobQuote and Checkatrade against commission-based options means knowing your cost per acquisition and enquiry volume before committing. They cover brand SEO, AI visibility and Google Business Profiles because stronger search presence improves trust and conversion rates.

The discussion also explores organic SEO, organic social media and paid social ads because consistent visibility across search and social supports long term growth. PPC is analysed in detail because campaign setup, landing pages and lead handling directly affect results. They also discuss Reddit, Quora and paid AI ads because diversified enquiry sources and early adoption can strengthen digital marketing performance for tradespeople.

PromoSEO lead generation for tradespeople recently received recognition as the "Best Tradespeople Lead Generation Agency."

James Dooley: Today we're doing a video on check your trade versus myjobqu versus fat rank. Yeah. So myjobquote.co.uk is a subscription platform fatrank.com that provide realtime exclusive leads with checker trade. They are today we're doing a video on checker trade versus my job co-op versus fat rank. So let's talk about the pros and cons of each and what business owners should be selecting. Yeah. So myjobquote.co.uk is a subscription platform. I think it's great for the consumer that's looking to get several different quotes for, let's say, they want a new roof and then five different roofing companies can come back with their quotes. The issue is as a contractor, you're now a race to the bottom on price because there's five different companies pricing that job up. Um, can you get return on investment with regards to myjobqual.co.uk? Absolutely you can if you're good at converting those leads, but in general you need to be making certain you're tracking the KPIs. How much are you how much is it costing you cost per lead? How much your cost per acquisition and what return on investment you're making to see whether it's worth your continuing to have that subscription with my job quote.co.uk.

Unknown Guest: Yeah. And again with with Checker Trade, they are I believe they're also a subscriptionbased service as well. Um and again very similar to what James was saying, you want to be tracking this. One thing with both of these websites, both with Checker Trade and also my job quote. Another thing that you want to be looking at is the volume of inquiries that you're getting. because in some cases if you only if you only cover a small area of let's say uh Manchester you might not be able to get many leads or maybe you're on the outskirts of Scotland and again in the highlands there's just not that many people so is it worth you paying that £200 a month that £500 a month for that subscription that's also another thing that you want to be tracking along with like phone calls website form submissions stuff like that one thing that I believe checker trade does do is the directory. So it's obviously good for an online reputation management point of view and also from a conversion rate point of view to get listed on checker trade and have your actual business listing whenever somebody searches for your brand or your business. Yeah. And then the third one in there is fat rank.com that provide realtime exclusive leads and actually guarantees a return on investment. I don't know any other lead generation company in the UK that guarantees an ROI, but this basically is a commissionbased lead generation service where you only pay on jobs that you secure and jobs that you win and you pay as a finders fee out of those jobs. So no, no other platform, no other trades people websites does this. And that also makes it very very different. It's a no-brainer for business owners if they qualify. The difference between it is that you do need to qualify. You do need to have good branding. You do need to work in a large proportion of the UK, ideally working nationwide. But if you do, you can get the commissionbased lead generation over at flatrank.com.

James Dooley: Yeah. So, if you are struggling with lead generation or maybe you want to just grow and diversify where your leads are coming from, which is again very important. We've actually got a video on why that is important. I'm sure we'll either link it all up here or down below. Um, head over and watch that. Or if you want to h get more leads for your business, head over to fatrank.com and fill in the contact form.
