Welcome, dear listeners. Today's learning from the Rambam, Maimonides, is from his 'Mishneh Torah', Laws of Repentance, Chapter two.
Rambam explores the essence of repentance. He tells us that when we make mistakes, when we stray from the path, what is required of us is not merely to stop doing the wrong, but to contemplate and regret our past actions.
He goes further and asks us to make a verbal confession to God, to articulate our mistakes, to own them. And not just that, he asks us to take a vow, pledge to God that we will not repeat them. A complete transformation, a complete turnaround, that's true repentance according to Rambam.
In our daily lives, we all make mistakes, and that’s okay. What’s important is how we deal with them. Do we ignore them, or do we learn from them? Rambam's lesson for us today is clear. Acknowledge your mistakes, learn from them, and strive not to repeat them.
That's the true spirit of repentance. That's the path to self-improvement, to becoming a better person. We all have the capacity for change, for growth, for transformation. Let's embrace that potential within us.
