And here's where it connects to a bigger story β Jack Dorsey just announced that his financial tech company Block, which runs Square and the Cash app, is cutting nearly half its workforce. It's rolling out now to free users across the Gemini app and other Google platforms, bringing capabilities previously reserved for premium subscribers to everyone. And Google didn't stop there. Gemini is also getting new agentic features on the Pixel 10 and the new Samsung Galaxy S26, letting the assistant automate multi-step tasks inside apps β think ordering an Uber or putting together a DoorDash order, hands-free. Meanwhile, over in Google's robotics division, the company is pulling its Alphabet moonshot project Intrinsic back under the Google umbrella after nearly five years as an independent venture. Intrinsic built itself as something like an 'Android for robotics' β software tools that make it easier to build robot applications. Bringing it in-house signals that Google is getting serious about physical AI, the next frontier where software intelligence meets the real world.
On the research front, there are two stories worth highlighting that reflect where enterprise AI is heading. Microsoft Research has unveiled something called CORPGEN β a framework designed to help autonomous AI agents manage the kind of messy, overlapping, deadline-driven work that actual corporate environments demand. At the same time, Perplexity has released a new family of embedding models called pplx-embed, built on the Qwen3 architecture.
