NHS Providers has announced that a new taskforce has been launched today, to support diversity improvements in the NHS communications workforce.
The taskforce will be led by Edna Boampong, and comes as part of the NHS Communicate programme – hosted by NHS Providers, NHS Confederation, and the Centre for Health Communications Research. It will mainly focus on ethnic diversity, particularly in senior roles, however other aspects of diversity may also be addressed when the taskforce publishes its findings and recommendations.
The decision to launch the taskforce came following the State of NHS Communications report, which was published by the partnership in March this year.

Five healthcare trusts across England have come together to form the Circular Economy Healthcare Alliance, in a display of commitment towards a greener and more sustainable NHS.
University College London Hospitals (UCLH), University Hospitals Sussex, Cambridge University Hospitals, Imperial College Healthcare and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will cooperate to help reduce waste and carbon emissions. This will focus on three key areas of change, which are to not use items unnecessarily, use reusable items where possible, and recycling items at the end of their life.
In a joint statement, the trusts said: “Our collaborative group of NHS trusts aims to reduce single-use medical equipment and consumables, reusing wherever it is clinically feasible and appropriate to do so.”
