Greetings and Welcome to The 405 Coffee Break with O.K. Solberg
New episodes tend to air over the local KMMR radio station @ 5 minutes past 4PM each M-F. And have been doing so, nearly every week since Sept 2018.
New episodes appear here usually within a few hours after that KMMR air time and been striving to post new releases here by 4:30PM.
I want to again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Guys, get you a cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:And if you've been listening this week, I do not have the spring wheat report. You're gonna have to check on that yourself. But a 550lb steer calf in Billings they're selling right now, $4-4.40/lb depending on their condition, and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings, $2.85/lb, on the top end. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Okay. I don't play chess much anymore, but there was a time in my life that I really enjoyed the game of chess. Even had an early computer model that I could play against a computer back in the late 80's, early 90's.
OK Solberg:I wasn't good, but I wasn't bad. One thing I really enjoyed is what they call check by discovery. Let's say I move my knight and say check, but see the piece I moved, the knight, didn't put the opponent's king in check.
OK Solberg:Since I moved my knight, it now opened up my bishop and my bishop had been there, but only when I moved my knight did check happen. Yes. Check by discovery.
OK Solberg:Well, that got me to thinking and I designed a phrase, correction by discovery. Now correction by discovery is when someone else reveals a habit in us that we never noticed in ourselves.
OK Solberg:Sometimes another person doesn't teach us what to do, they teach us what we do. The other person may not be our teacher.
OK Solberg:He may simply be our mirror. We sometimes recognize our own faults most clearly when someone else is committing them. Have you ever seen someone that annoys you and then, oh, wait a minute, I do that.
OK Solberg:What irritate what irritates us in another person may occasionally be something we need to examine in ourselves. Sometimes the person we're talking to in a conversation is holding up a mirror without knowing it.
OK Solberg:Another person's behavior can become a mirror in which we fully recognize ourselves. Guys, we're often blind to our own habits until someone else performs them in front of us.
OK Solberg:Sometimes we don't need someone to correct us, we need someone to reveal it to us. A person can accidentally become our teacher simply by showing us what we don't want to be. So remember this, the most useful mirror isn't always made of glass.
OK Solberg:Sometimes it walks into the room and starts talking. Correction by discovery is very telling. Hey, wait a minute. I do the same thing and I never noticed that it was that annoying. Oopsie daisy.
OK Solberg:In chess, check by discovery reveals an attack that was already there. In life, correction by discovery can reveal a weakness that was already there too.
OK Solberg:Sometimes the very thing that irritates us most about another person is the very thing we have failed to recognize in ourselves. What begins as criticism of someone else can become a lesson, well, in self examination.
OK Solberg:The moment we stop asking, why are they like that? And begin asking, am I like that too? Is the moment correction by discovery begins.
OK Solberg:The Bible says in Psalm 139 verses 23-24 search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:3-4
OK Solberg:Remember this, the easiest person to diagnose is somebody else. The hardest patient to treat is our self.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there remember now, don't be bitter.
