What is The Gospel Briefing?

Understand the news. Keep your peace. Follow Christ. The Gospel Briefing is a five-minute weekday Christian news decision brief hosted by Charles King. Each episode brings three consequential stories into the light of Scripture, helping you enter the day informed and steady - without panic, outrage, or partisan noise. Go deeper with Bible Copilot.

A federal judge just ruled against the White House.

Not politically. Constitutionally.

This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King.

Here's what we know. Last week, President Trump banned three outlets — CNN, Politico, and MS NOW — from the White House complex and revoked their hard press passes. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly — a Trump appointee — said plainly that due process "wasn't followed here." Late in the day, he ordered access immediately restored.

The five major networks in the White House press pool have pulled out in solidarity. That is not normal.

The White House called access a privilege, not a right, and cited national security. But the president's own post on Truth Social said something different. He wrote the outlets keep reporting what he called fiction and lies. The judge noticed the mismatch. A fuller ruling could come within days.

Christians will land in different places on any given outlet. That's fine. But Scripture is not neutral on what's underneath this — what happens when rulers decide who tells the story.

Proverbs twenty-nine, verse twelve. "If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked." The warning cuts both ways. Leaders who silence what they don't want to hear eventually only hear what flatters them. That's a spiritual problem before it's a political one.

If you want to sit with this, keep Proverbs twenty-nine open in Bible Copilot and read the chapter slowly.

Development two. Harvey Weinstein was sentenced yesterday in New York to fifteen years in prison for sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in two thousand six.

He is seventy-four. He has already served more than six years. A pending resentencing in Los Angeles could keep him behind bars for life.

Haley spoke in court. She said the assault has had a devastating effect on her sense of security that may never fully go away. She said other women coming forward gave her the courage to speak.

Weinstein apologized and, in the same breath, insisted on his innocence. Judge Curtis Farber said that refusal to accept responsibility weighed heavily on the sentence.

Luke twelve, verse two. "Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed." Sometimes it takes decades. Sometimes it takes a courtroom. God is not indifferent to what powerful men do behind closed doors.

Development three. Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar introduced a bill yesterday to permanently ban artificial superintelligence and create a federal Department of Artificial Intelligence.

The bill defines superintelligence as a system that exceeds human cognitive ability or could plan the destruction of humanity. Current employees at OpenAI and Google DeepMind publicly endorsed it. One called the current path a likely existential catastrophe. The bill faces long odds. President Trump has said he will not rein AI in.

Christians disagree about tech policy. But when the engineers building the thing ask us to slow down, that's worth hearing.

Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard.

"If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked."

That verse sits underneath all three stories. A White House deciding which reporters ask questions. A courtroom finally hearing what a powerful man wouldn't. Engineers asking Congress to listen before it's too late. Truth matters. And God sees who is willing to hear it.

Thanks for listening. I'll see you tomorrow.
