Joining me to talk about goldrush days this Saturday and Sunday at Sabago Park is Chelsea and Rochelle. Good morning, you guys. Welcome.

Speaker 3:

Morning. Thanks for with us.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I I can't believe we're we're here already, ready to go with goldrush days. You know what? Fingers crossed, knock on wood, the weather looks like it's going to be gorgeous.

Speaker 3:

I know. It does. Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Sunny and So thank you. From my side.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Okay. So, who wants to take the first question, which is for those who haven't experienced a lot of new families have moved to town and maybe haven't experienced goldrush days in the past. Describe them the experience.

Speaker 3:

Man, well, June of goldrush days, we've got a little bit of everything for everybody. Of course, the the main show is gonna be our mining and logging competitions where people can sign up to compete or just watch the activities. We've got yard games. There's a kid's carnival, bouncy house, live music, great food, fun vendors. Your kid can sign up to learn how to drive an excavator.

Speaker 3:

There's just tons of activities for the whole family.

Speaker 2:

And, Chelsea, the the entertainment, you've got some returning bands this year. And I think that's what we love about Southeast Alaska. There's so much great talent here. And you've got some great, great acts coming this year.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. Absolutely. We've actually got four bands this year, which is great. So they start at 01:00 both on Saturday and on Sunday. We have the Pajama Cat Shark, Steadygoing, Quentin Woolman Morgan, as well as Dude Mountain is returning from Ketchikan for a second year, which is awesome.

Speaker 2:

Those guys are great. Now the, one thing I love is you've got a lot of participating, sponsors setting up, some really cool toys to look at. You mentioned, you can learn how to drive an, an excavator, which, you know, who doesn't wanna learn how to do that for crying out loud? That's fun. So who are some of the sponsors that are there this year that, you can share with?

Speaker 4:

Yeah. I mean, year after year, some of our big sustaining partners, Hecla Greens Creek, Core Alaska Kensington Mine, NC Machinery, Alaska Marine Lines, Tyler Reynolds CMI. Grant Portage has signed on as a gold sponsor this year. We always have a ton of support from CBJ's Parks and Rec department. AJMine Gastoneau Mill, they put on our kids gold panning activity.

Speaker 4:

They're always a huge supporter. Sandvik, Alaska Airlines has donated some flights for our raffle, which is fantastic. And we have some some tours and excursions from Coastal Helicopter, North Star, Wings Airways, folks like that, which is incredible.

Speaker 2:

Now the the skill, Rochelle, that it takes to to you know, what is essentially, they're performing, but these are everyday skills that these I I wanna call them athletes because they it really is something to watch as they they kind of go through all of the things that are are required to to to do the profession that these guys are all in. Right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. For sure. So we've got both mining and logging events. Some of them are still done today. Some of them are a little bit more historic activities, but kind of a throwback to the the history and the past of mining and logging.

Speaker 3:

There's some that do require experience. So you'll see some really experienced people out there performing these skills, but some of them are open to the public. So if anybody wants to come and try their hand at axe throwing, mucking, any of those things, you're you're welcome to. We've got registration open from 8AM until noon both days.

Speaker 2:

Now with, the weather, like we mentioned, it looks like it's gonna be great. If it's not, it doesn't matter. You come out and you and and you enjoy it. Parking is gonna be at a premium. What do you suggest?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. That that's always kind of a tough one, but there's a lot of parking around the area. The harbor lot is right across the street. There is street parking, parking down by Sandy Beach, if you don't mind walking a little ways. The Treadwell Arena is a little bit behind the field.

Speaker 3:

So a lot of spots around there if you just look around.

Speaker 2:

Fantastic. Chelsea, did did we miss anything that you want folks to know about this weekend?

Speaker 4:

No. I think it's just a great opportunity to spend the spend the weekend outdoors, get some entertainment, get some great food. We've got lots of folks coming on as volunteers, both Coralaska and Kensington. And at Greens Creek, we pull in our interns for the weekend to come out and help set up the site. So great opportunity to talk to booth vendors, see what they're all about, ask folks about the mining industry and and logging industries in Southeast.

Speaker 2:

Goldrush days this weekend. Chelsea, Rochelle, thank you for coming in this morning.

Speaker 3:

Thank you. Thanks for having us.
