Punchy, actionable insights and tips to make the life of the team leader a breeze.
[00:00:00] Pia: Do you wake up in the middle of the night and add to your to-do list by your bedside, and that never ever ends. Hmm. And then maybe wonder why you feel burnt out. I'm Pia.
[00:00:14] Dan: And I'm Dan, and this is Squadify Connects.
[00:00:16] Yeah, look, sometimes we get consumed by completing tasks and tunnel vision sets in and we feel we have to complete almost everything no matter what.
[00:00:26] Pia: We need to align our do behind our be, so the two match. Otherwise we can get into task overdrive or just solely focus on the be and never get anything done at all.
[00:00:38] Dan: James Clear's written a great book called Atomic Habits, which is highly recommended where he uses the be do have approach, but he calls it identity, process, goal. The process part is habits, and that's how you can really transform your do.
[00:00:53] Pia: And here's an important message from his book. Repeating small behaviors day after day compound into major results. In fact, 1% every day delivers over 37 times the impact in a year, and that also goes for negative ones as well as positive ones. So watch out for that.
[00:01:14] Dan: Yes, indeed. But take the example of Helen, who has a team and she wants to build engagement in that team. She chooses a be to be interested, but she never actually follows through with actions about her team, and she tends to dive into the task. The be and do do need to align. But the atomic habit here that Helen could have is asking questions that demonstrate that she's really interested.
[00:01:38] Pia: So Helen decided to set her be to be interested and then aim to ask at least one interested question in every interaction with her team. So the two are aligned.
[00:01:52] Dan: And she had a way to track her progress. So you can do the same this week. Choose to make a change with a habit that aligns with your be. Maybe the way you ask questions, maybe the way you run a meeting, the way you greet people at the start of a video meeting or whatever you want to do in your role, that's going to just move things on that little bit, based on that be.
[00:02:12] Pia: So, extra special this week to remember. Small changes over time can have a big impact. So give it a go and try something new this week. Good luck and to see you soon.
