Full show transcript:

There are only three channels on your TV. They're retro channels. What are you saying? I'm saying. You Yeah.

You gotta explain a little more. Okay.

Like say all streaming services have been dismantled. Okay. You only get three TV channels. Okay. But their retro TV is on them. Like retro TV shows. It's all reruns? shows. Yes. Yes. Yes.

So are you asking what shows I want to watch?

Yeah, what channels? What three TV channels do you want?

Well, aren't you just gonna pick ABC, C BS, and NBC?

No, I'm not gonna just pick those. I'm gonna pick, I'm gonna pick MTV. Hold on. Hold on, what? How retro.

Because you're going back to like even like the 70s, 80s with MTV. Or are you going like retro 90s 2000s?

You decide. It's uh however retro you want to make it. Right. But it's retro TV channels. Okay. So you want to pick three.

I want Nickelodeon. I want good Nickelodeon back. Okay. None of that Nick Jr., none of that Nick at night. I just want straight Nickelodeon all the time. With Renan Stimpy and all that. And uh Pete and Pete. And you can't do that on television.

I want all that back. Okay. I'm picking MTV.

And I'm picking VH1. Okay, but I no. Behind the music. Hold on. Behind the music and pop pop up video. Those were the only two things worth watching on VH1.

And Rock and Roll Jeopardy. Yeah, I don't care about that. I did. I was good at that game. Oh yeah? Yeah.

I want uh MTV back with like singled out. That was a good that was a good show. I enjoyed that with uh Jenny McCarthy. Well, yeah, but and and uh what's his name? Chris? Yeah, Chris. Whatever his name is.

P did it start with a P. I can't remember his name. The nerdist guy. Yeah, yeah. Hardwick. Yeah, Chris Hardwick. Yeah. I want I want that show back. Um I want Cribs back. I liked uh I like that show. No.

Uh I just want music videos. You want made? I don't even know what that was.

Oh, you think you know, but you have no idea. Yeah.

Yeah.

And that was kind of about the up and up and coming thing. What was the show where they would take like uh like somebody who was uh you know trying to get fit or somebody was trying to like they had like a problem that was made. That was made it was made, yeah. Yeah, yeah, that was a good show.

Yeah, it was a good show, but they would pair them up with like a celeb and that celeb would like be their coach and help them like make it through the thing they were trying to accomplish. Yeah. I think that's cool. Yeah, made was good. That was a good show. Uh I don't care about what was that bus, that dating bus show.

I don't want that back. I want road rules. I want road rules and real world. Uh those were great.

Those were great. So that I want that good MTV. I don't want like Rob Deirdick uh MTV.

No. And I like the music videos, bring back the music videos. That was great. Um, so I would take a little bit of that mixed in with my Nickelodeon. Same.

And then I would pick MBC for like the Friday night thing. What was it called? T G I S G I F yeah.

You want T G I F back? Yeah. Yeah, that was a good thing.

And Retro S N L. Oh, for sure. Okay. Those are my three. Okay.

Good picks. I don't disagree. I just want Nickelodeon in there instead of VH1. Okay. That's it.

Pop-up video. So good. It was good. Rock and roll Jeopardy. So good. Okay. I was so good at it. Were you? Bro.

You call me bro? Do you know we're married? Let's go ahead and start today's show. Oh, Friday. Hi. How's it going? So good. Yeah? Yeah, because it's Friday. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Uh let's see. What do we know about today? Today is the last day of the week. It's also going to be the uh kickoff to the Labor Day weekend. So uh a lot of folks took today off.

Uh so if you're sleeping in. Lucky. Lucky. If you're uh if you're up working like we are, hey, good morning. Yeah, hey morning. Good morning.

Hey to us. We're gonna get through it, and then we're gonna have a nice weekend. Uh we do have a long extended weekend because Monday we are off, so that's nice. That's uh that's a nice little treat.

Yeah, I'm excited. Are you getting out of town? Yeah. Gotta.

We gotta get out of town. Get out of town.

One other thing, the Eastern Idaho State Fair begins today.

That is correct. Yeah. What time do gates open this morning? Couldn't tell you. I think 10. No way. Yeah. No way. You don't think so? Fun at the fair.com, which is by the way, is where you go to buy your tickets. Uh and Flowrider happening tonight.

Is that right? At the fair. Man. Boots with the fur and all that. No, that's not him. Yeah. No, it isn't. Check it out. That song's called Apple Bottom Jeans. Yeah. And it's not by him. I think he's in there, bro. It is. Okay. I'm I'm wrong. You're right. I'll admit.

Question me too many times. Later on in the show, you're gonna have to confess again. I know I will. Gates open. Uh well, Livestock Crowns uh open up at 8 o'clock. Uh the carnival rides kick off at noon. The exhibitor buildings open up at 10. Uh, but the livestock barns open up 8 a.m. So good morning.

Uh, to those of you getting ready to go play with your sheeps and goats and cows and horses and stuff. Yeah, good luck. That's not my is that not your spot? That's not my job. You don't like to go over there.

No, my nieces do goats. They do goats every day. Yeah, they do. And my niece broke her arm dealing with a goat once. They've got all kinds of injuries from those goats. Yeah. But they'd like it.

They like it. Uh, if you want to see the daily schedule as well, fun at the fair.com has the whole schedule so you can see what's going on every single day. So if you want to know like what's happening on the grounds or any of the free stages, or if you want to know what's going on in the Bank of Commerce grandstand, Flowrida Apple Bottom Jeans tonight.

Welcome to my house.

Yeah, that's also one. I know it is. That was uh what was his name? Uh Run DMC, right? Uh wasn't that the song they used on the show that was Run's House. Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty sure. I don't know. Yeah. That was a funny little show. That was a good show.

That was a good show. I missed that show. Yeah.

There's uh the 4-H dog show happening this morning as well in the beef show barn. Case you want to know where that's happened. Duck show. Fun at the fair.com as the fair gets underway.

Dog show. Whatever. I'm so glad it's Friday. Why? I just I need a break from you. Because I'm gonna get a break from you. Yeah, right. We're going out of town together. I don't need a break from you.

You got cut me deep just now. No, I did not. Good morning.

All right, let's get some good news this morning. This is a story uh from South Florida where a couple of teenagers, a brother and sister, uh, they're uh Shrida and a Nish. Uh, they created an app called Pizza for a Purpose. And the idea is to help local pizzerias, businesses, and individual donors deliver fresh meals directly to neighborhood nonprofit groups. Uh yeah, so the the siblings started the project in 2024. They spent some time volunteering at food banks, and they noticed that there were young children showing up for food. And the siblings wanted to give a boost to the kids by making it easier for people in the community to make donations. And so they developed this app that sort of streamlines the donation process and allows anyone to send fresh pizzas from nearby restaurants to charities like the Pantry of Broward, uh, which is the food bank that they volunteer at.

So the platform's already resulted in delivery of over 25,000 slices of pizza. That's amazing. Isn't that a it's incredible?

You figure there's like eight slices per pie, and they've delivered 25,000 slices uh to families and seniors across uh the entire Broward County, turning everyday takeout orders into these hot weekly meals for neighbors in need. And uh it's really, really cool. Uh one of the teens said that the reaction really warms their hearts. Yeah, uh their faces light up the second they get the pizza. It's very rewarding.

They have food and good food. Hot, fresh food, yeah. No kidding. Um, and uh it's very rewarding because it uh it makes everything that they did to put that app together absolutely worth it every time they get to see somebody's face light up because they got a delivery. I think that's really great.

So uh way to go. What a cool idea, way to take like a need and go, how can we uh do something in this space and figure that out? That's really cool. So good story, Josh. That's good news. Are you familiar with GeoGesser?

Yes. Oh, yes, I am. Okay.

This is the uh this is you can go on this website, and uh they basically give you a picture, and you uh get to look at this picture, which is like a a snapshot of a street view and you have to figure out where in the world are you looking, yeah. And then you pinpoint on the map and it tells you how close you are. Yeah, it's a geography guessing game. I'm not so good at it. Okay.

I've played it before. I'm not I'm not great.

So since January 18th of this year, they have been running um a nine-month season to determine who would qualify for the Geo Guesser World Championships, which are happening right now. The finals are underway. There are 24 contestants or players who go into the finals, and they all all these games work in 20 rounds. So you go head to head with another person, 20 rounds, and you you guess, and whoever is the closest of each one gets so many points, and uh those are tallied at the end, and you move through the tournament. Okay. Uh round one of the finals is underway right now. Right now, as we speak. Um, I was trying to see there are one two competitors from the US uh that made it in uh to uh into the finals.

Yeah, which is very gonna make it into the finals.

Yeah, well, it's tough. It's absolutely tough. Um I was just trying to see if they're are, I there. I guess in in round one, there are two uh from the US.

So I think they've had to work their way up to um you know where they're at now. But the winner gets over a hundred thousand dollars. Bro, which is pretty amazing.

I should be better at geoguessing. Yeah, I should compete. Yeah.

Sure. Uh the finals are happening in Berlin. Uh they they've been working their way up into the finals now, which are happening today and tomorrow. Um, and you can watch the whole thing online. Uh there's a live feed of it. Uh so if you really want to watch people guess where they are,

that's a very exciting thing to watch, I can imagine.

I think that's kind of how it started. Like people people go on and play, but I think watching people that are really good at it is way more fascinating than watching me be terrible at it. This is one instance where I'd rather watch people do it.

Because I go, how in the world did you know that was in Colombia? It's a bulldozer on a dirt road. I just watched that happen. And I went, and the guy was, I'm telling you, like a mile off. Whoa. Unreal. Like very close. And I'm I mean, you must know every mountain range.

How do you even train for something? I don't even know. I it blows my mind. This is one of those things we talked about yesterday where you think you're good at something, and then you see somebody who's actually good at it, and you go, Oh,

I'm I never thought I was good at this. Me neither. Oh.

But it is fun to play. I go, that looks like France.

It's pretty impressive. Istanbul. Yeah, and they're like, mm-mm. You aren't even close. Uh but anyway, the uh the the geo guesser championships, world championships are underway right now, which is uh well, right now they're trying to sell me a really fancy gaming chair. But uh hit by an ad. Yeah, well, it's a nice looking chair. You don't need it. It's pretty nice. Uh anyway.

You can play for free, right?

I think so. I think you can play Geo guesser online for free.

So maybe that's just what they do. They just these people who are good at it, they just play it and then they go, okay. Well, I kind of have an idea, like this is what Columbia looks like because they've seen enough pictures of it. Yeah, so they can guess the bulldozer on the dirt road.

Yeah, well, and some of them, like when they're in like a downtown area, you can read signs and you can see like, oh, I know that language, so I know it's gonna be, you know, a German country, or it's gonna be uh a Latin country or whatever.

Yeah, I'm still pretty bad at it. Even when I can read the signs, I go, oh yeah, that's uh German. Let's guess uh Berlin. It was French Amsterdam.

Yeah. Anyway, uh if you want to if you want something to do, you can go watch people guess where they are.

How would you rate our house?

Uh uh on uh what kind of scale. I mean, I need a little bit more criteria.

On a scale of ten.

10, 1 to 10. One to ten based on

ten being oh no, ten being the worst, or ten being the best, one being the worst.

At what? Be in a house, ten out of ten. It's a house.

Like what you like about it. Like your feelings on the house. This is a weird question. It is not a weird question. Where do you rate the house? I would probably give it a solid like seven and a half, eight. That's pretty low. Low? I thought that was pretty high.

I don't think it's a ten out of ten. And I'll tell you why. Yeah, why?

Because there's some unfinished projects. That's all. I like that house. Eight's good. Eight is a good rating. Wow. Oh my. Here we go. Home we built. We did not build it.

Yeah, we did. We built it into a home. Yeah. It was a house. And we built it into a home.

I didn't say rate our home. I said rate our house. Didn't I?

It's a it's a house. Ten out of ten. It has walls. It has floors. It has a ceiling and roof. It has doors and windows. Plumbing. Electrical. It's a house. I don't know what what else you want me to say about it.

I guess that's it. End of conversation.

Because you've you've taken the the road of there are unfinished projects to mean that the house is less than a 10. Yeah. I disagree.

I don't think that's a negative.

The home might be less than a 10 because it's not exactly how you want it yet. Yet being the big thing. Right. But as a house goes, 10 out of 10.

That's a house. Okay. Well. I don't know. I don't rate things. This is your game. I do like to rate things. I know. Um, okay. Well. Well, talk to me about your rating.

I just did. I said, due to unfinished projects and things that I don't have time to get to. Yeah. Um, it's an eight out of ten. So, what's a 10 house? Finished. Up to never happens. I know. That's who has a 10 house.

I'm sure there's lots of people that have. I'm not when I say finished, I mean like there's carpet we want to have removed. There's doors we want replaced. Right. It's small cosmetic stuff. There's a hole in the basement that needs repair.

There's not a hole in the basement. That sounds like there's a real bad problem. There isn't a real bad problem. I had to access the water main for outside for the spigot in order to uh put in a new one a couple of years ago, and I haven't put a cover over the small square I had to cut in the ceiling to access that area. And you say there's a hole in the basement, that sounds like a major problem. If there was a hole in the basement, it wouldn't be a 10 out of 10 house. The basement is finished, the theater is finished. I know. There's a lot going on.

But there are some things that need work. And so that's why it's an eight out of ten. Eight. Eight is good.

Nine and a half is good. Eight is good. I like eight. Eight's pretty mid. I'm not into calling the house an eight. Okay. That feels offensive to the house that should be a ten. So what else is going on?

Knocks it down from a ten. I don't even want to say. the in the basement made it on the list. What else? I don't stuff in the garage we want to work on, stuff in the yard we want to finish. Yeah. Just small things.

I mean, they're not small, they're big things. But all in all, I love that house. I love the home we've built. I yeah, yay. I did not know that this was gonna be such a heavy conversation.

Well, I just I want to know where your head's at.

I just told you. Eight. And eight is good.

Seven and a half.

If somebody, listen to me. Yeah. If somebody was rating you, and they were like, yeah, he's an eight out of tear it. No, I'm not stepping in that. What am I? To you. On a scale of one to ten. If somebody gave you an eight out of ten, that's high praise. That's high praise. An eight?

Yes. Ten in my eyes. So I didn't say that I gave you an eight. What'd you give me? A ten. I married you, didn't I? So that means I'm a ten. Ten out of ten. Would do again.

Okay. Would I do again? I would marry again. That's funny. Rate your house. Be careful though.

Don't do it. It was supposed to be fun.

Seven and a half. Oh. M. G. I guess I just need to get to work more, is what that's what that says. That says the house could be a 10. I have nothing further to say. But it's a seven and a half. Case closed. Case closed. Council rest. closed. What? You're done. I'm done. No further questions. Okay.

Because I like to do this kind of stuff. Uh I keep track of things, special occasions and different things.

Well, that's what calendars usually do, isn't it?

Yeah, but I a calendar wouldn't the calendar wouldn't. The calendar event wouldn't exist if I didn't put it in there. I see. So 2003, tree. September 4th, today, 2003.

So 23 years ago today. We met for the first time. Oh. Oh. I was 21.

I was 22. Yeah.

And we we met for the first time on this day 23 years ago. Correct. Isn't that something?

Isn't that something?

Like planets colliding in space.

So congratulations to us. And happy first meeting anniversary.

That's that's a thing of note. It is a thing of note. Yeah. Now it's not the first time we talked to each other. Correct. You didn't write that down. No, I didn't. That would have been a couple days ago. Yeah.

We met at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

That's right. At a three doors down. Well, I mean, technically we met at the radio station beforehand. Yeah. Uh to go to the Eastern Idaho State Fair to see three doors down. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That happened. Was it also a Friday?

No, I actually think it was a Thursday. I don't know. I actually don't remember. Um what I do remember is that you didn't do much talking to me. I met you at the radio station at the time. The radio station that you were working at was in Blackfoot. And I met you at in Blackfoot. I was living in Pocatello. Met you in Blackfoot. We got in your car, drove to the fair together.

You didn't really say much to me. And then we kind of nervous. We kind of walked we kind of walked in to the fair.

Yeah. And we met a coworker of yours and his wife. And you and the coworker like took off. His wife was pregnant. Yeah. I walked very slowly with her. Yeah.

And chatted with her. She was waddling. Well, she was pregnant. She was pregnant. You didn't specify. And then she was waddling is a weird thing to say without context of she was very pregnant. You're right.

And then throughout the the show, you didn't really say much to me. And I just kind of sat there by myself until finally you were like, hey, what's going on? And I was like, oh hey, what's up? And then you loosened up a little bit. Yeah. And started talking and dancing and laughing with me. But it took a while. Took a while for you to even warm up

and I'm a slow kind of ease on into situations kind of guy.

And it takes a minute for people to warm up to me.

So there's a stranger in the midst here. I don't know if you guys noticed, but I brought a stranger. That's what I was telling them. Telling who? Telling who? My coworker. I was I was walking with them going, there's a stranger behind us. I don't know who she is. She followed us here. What?

Nothing. It was a Thursday to confirm. Ooh, I knew it. Yeah. Check that out.

Yeah. How'd you know? Just guessed.

Intuition. Just it felt like a Thursday? Yeah, I think it was a Thursday. It's interesting that it was a Thursday at the Eastern Idaho State Fair 23 years ago. Uh, because the fair starts typically on the Friday now.

So I don't know when that changed. Or if I oh, you know what? It probably had kicked off earlier. Because Labor Day moves around and stuff. So yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, would it? Mm-hmm Labor Day was probably on the first of that year. Probably. Is why.

I also remember this is a story I also like to tell. I was really, really poor. Yeah.

And because you were uh just a poor college student. Yeah. Yeah.

And you were like, I'm gonna go get a deep fried Snickers. Yes. And I went, hmm. That sounds nice. I wish I could have Dave Fried Snickers, but I don't have any money. And I was hoping and hoping and hoping that you would buy me one. And you didn't. And I did not blame you because one, it wasn't a date. Right. We were just going as friends. Right.

As complete acquaintances, some stranger following me. Right. As I said. Who wants me to buy her stuff? There's a stranger following.

No, I didn't why I just was hoping that maybe you would offer. And then I would have said no anyway, because I would have felt bad that you were buying me one. So whatever. Happy anniversary, anyway. Yeah. Yeah, what? Yeah.

Why are you saying that?

I'm agreeing. Yeah. Yeah.

That's an agreeable noise. Yeah. Yeah.

I do also remember at the end of the night, I was like, yeah, I kind of just don't want to leave.

It's a wonder that that we ever got to that point to where we were standing in the hallway and like laughing and having a great time and didn't want the night to end from everything you've said up to that point. How in the w world did we go from He's avoiding me.

There's a stranger talking to me. There's a stranger in our midst to I don't want to have the night end. Like we should just get married, I guess. No, that didn't come till later. I'm just saying the escalation was rather quickly. Yeah. Uh happened rather quickly once it did happen. Right. But it why were you so slow to hang out with me? Bro. Don't even.

Anyway, happy anniversary.

Twenty-three years ago. That's crazy. Yeah. Look at us. Look at us. Earlier this morning, I'll remind you, you made a statement that I was correct about something. And I just wanted to bring that up as we get to talk about the great lollipop search. A Wild goose traits. Yeah. You had me uh all over the place looking for lollipops. Yeah. Um, and uh you were looking specifically for not just any kind. You wanted like some nice uh some nice handmade ones.

Well, not that. I was looking for those. I have a co-worker who's leaving, and I wanted she likes these um lollipops. Yeah. That are you see them everywhere. Yeah, they're gourmet.

They're at every check stand. They're the big ones that are they look homemade, they look like you've melted down candy and put them in a mold. Everyone knows the ones I'm talking about. They're just they're called gourmet lollipops. Yeah.

That's the thing that I think usually you have like uh the check stand, they've got a like a wood, like a giant wood spool with a bunch of them stuck in it. Yeah.

And when my kids were little, it was a fight to even get out of the out of the store without one because they would always want one. I want one. I'm like, every store has these. I know I've seen these at every check stand. Until you want one. Until you want one. And then I can we went to Fred Meyer. We went to Broolums, we went to Albertson's. Um were those the only three places?

Well, until I said, We gotta go to Winco. They're gonna be at Winco.

You said that from the beginning.

From the very beginning, I went, they're they're gonna have them at Winco.

I said, No, I don't think they're gonna be there. I don't think Winco has those.

So we went to three different stores to not find them. And then we went to Winco, and there they were. And there they were.

And I said to you immediately, you were right. I should have listened to you. Immediately. Yeah.

We had we had gathered them. We were in the checkout lane when you said, yeah, I probably should have just came came here first. And I went, yeah. Maybe. Maybe. I mean, to be fair, we had other shopping to do, so the other places helped us out with as we kind of went along. Um, but nonetheless.

But we could have gotten all that stuff at Wingo. You're correct. I just didn't listen. And I apologize. And Winco is the closest to our house. I know. Uh so I'm sorry about it.

It is the in as far as proximity goes, that is the closest one. But that's not where we regular shop. No. So that's you know, that's fine.

I was just so mad because I've seen those everywhere. I know. Until I couldn't.

And to be fair as well, you did ask at every store. One store straight up said no, we don't have those. Uh one store said, I know we have those because kids bring them up to the check stand. Uh and I know they're somewhere, but I don't know where. And we wandered and wandered and wandered and didn't find them and eventually left. Yeah.

Said, sorry, you don't have this. I have to go. Yeah. I have to go now. And then I was texting someone like, I can't find these. Right. Who where can I go? And she said, Do you well? Another coworker was like, Well, maybe you could just get a bag of dumdums like it. It's not that.

We can't.

It can't be that. No. It's way too specific.

So we went on a wild uh goose chase for these lollipops, and uh we found them. And everything's okay.

A little bit disappointed because there were only four flavors. Four or five or six. I feel like you got quite a few. Five. I think there were five different flavors, and I got five of each. Four of each. Uh-huh. So I got twenty.

That's a lot. She told me that she likes to sit and read and eat those. She's an empty nest.

This makes me laugh. She's an empty nester. Yeah. And so that's what she's like. I don't know what my husband does for dinner, but I I like to read and eat my suckers. For dinner.

Yeah, that's a balanced meal.

Who cares? She's an empty nester. It doesn't matter. Do what you want. Do what you want, lady. Anyway, we found them. Thanks for your thanks for being my partner in crime. Yeah.

Well, I mean, we paid. We didn't steal them. No, I didn't steal them. So just be your partner in shopping.

Yeah, thanks. You made it. You made it fun. Did I? Yeah.

On a scale of one to ten, how fun.

Oh, get over yourself.

Let's talk about yesterday.

Oh, yesterday was the best day ever.

Uh the day before the fair opens, we get to sample and judge uh quite a few food entries that'll be at the concessionaires uh booths at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. And we tried a whole bunch of food.

So we ended up uh at a table, and I was so happy this year to end up at the entrees table because for the past, I don't know, every year, I have been at the sweets table. And not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's a lot of sweets that you have to judge.

You just need some substance.

And they broke they break up the sweets across two tables. The best new sweet and the best of like best of the fair returning favorites sweets, desserts, which is a big part of your fair food.

Uh you want to get a nice entree, you want to get a nice dessert. We got to sample quite a bit. Yeah, we did desserts as well. Uh so I do have some favorites.

And we were sharing with some co-workers too. Yep.

So I did get to uh I did get to enjoy um quite a bit of food. Quite a bit. Yeah. I'm I'm just pulling up my post on Facebook. You posted a kind of a video collage of us eating a bunch of food.

Yeah. Um, and uh my favorites um in no particular order, because I I could put them in an order, but there's there's quite a few here. My favorite dessert, hands down was the campfire secret from Sweet Temptation.

You love that. You love that.

So good. We're I was explaining what it was to the kids last night because they were asking, you know, what did you try? What did you like? And I said, This campfire secret, and I explained that it's it's these homemade moon pies, uh, and there's caramel and there's warm caramel. Yeah, warm car homemade caramel sauce, and then there's uh like fresh cut strawberries, and there's graham cracker crust and little mini marshmallows and soft surf ice cream, and every word that came out of my mouth, Beck goes, yeah. That's that's that was made for you. for you. That thing is so good.

So that was my top thing. favorite dessert. Sweet temptations. Okay. My favorite sweet was the Freedom Taco Delight. From La Casita. Oh, that was so cool.

I want to know what that taco shell's made of. Because it is flaky and delicious. Sweet. Yeah.

And like crispy. Oh, it was so, so so good.

The only thing I would if I was gonna change anything about it, I would throw like a like an ice cream in the taco. So it had that like choco taco kind of thing going for it. I would because it had bananas and strawberries in it and whipped cream, which is very good. But I would throw an ice cream in that.

I wouldn't change anything. I love it.

It was very good. It's on my list of favorites. I also both of us really enjoyed the horchata shaved ice. That was very good. Because I love horchot. Yeah, horchata shaved ice from North Shore Shaved Ice, which was very difficult. So good. Those were my top three desserts. Agreed. Do you you also had the Dubai cheesecake thing? That was delicious. That was nice. Um, there was quite a bit.

We had some a cookie butter crunch funnel cake.

Yes, the cookie butter funnel cake. Uh it it was a lot of funnel cake. So if you love a funnel cake, they've got some good ones because they also had uh a cookies and cream one uh that was really good. But for me, I need a little bit more stuff on there. You know what it needed? Ice cream. Put some ice cream on it. The solution to anything is better with ice cream.

Throw some soft syrup on it. Uh all right, so let's talk about entrees because we got to try so much. We ended up trying um I mean, count them up. How many different entrees? Ten.

Oh, there were so many. Yeah, we tried the whole dang farm. Yeah. A peanut butter bacon burger with jalapeno relish.

These are so far you've listed two of my favorites. Hog on a log. The hog on a log. Okay, yeah, it was good. It's meat on a stick.

Pulled pork nachos, a rib I've

got to be a big thing. The pulled pork nachos. Hold on. Pulled pork nachos from Mexican Crazy Corn were so good. Uh the peanut butter bacon burger with jalapeno relish uh is from Twisted Tater, and the whole dang farm is from Smoken Bees. Yes. Um, all of those super super super super good. Yeah.

I think the I d I wasn't excited about the whole dang farm because it was just a lot of meat.

But it was so you you really dug in on that.

So you were like, okay, never mind. I think I'm okay with this. It was so good. But my favorite was the pulled pork nacho from Mexican Crazy Corn.

Yeah. Very, very good.

Also the the Liberty stack.

Yes. So that's probably my number one entree is the Liberty Stack. It's a double bacon cheeseburger, but they put on a bourbon glaze sauce and crispy onions. That burger was so good.

That's from between the buns. I want it right now. We gotta go to the so good. Want to go get some lunch at the fair?

Yeah, Liberty Stack. Uh, and then Fiesta fries from La Casita were very good too. So it's uh they did like uh carnitas and a uh uh carne asada on the fries with guacamole and stuff.

So it was really good. Fiesta fries at La Casita were uh really, really good. So there is a lot to eat at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. If you're a big uh food lover, there's a ton of stuff you can go and uh and enjoy.

The sad part is like you can get all the stuff that we mentioned, but then I always like to get just the regular old corn dog too. You can't go to a fair without a corn dog. I never get the corn dog and scones, like an elephant ear.

Yeah, you got a tiger ear, they're called. Oh, sorry.

I'm gonna go. It's the Eastern Idaho State Fair. I know. For uh like a lot of years, you've m helped make tiger ears. Um that's a fair classic. They serve it to you in a bag. I mean, you can't you can't go wrong with a giant scone with some delicious butter on there, the honey butter butter. Oh man. Yeah.

And then you get to support the Grand Teton Council, the scouts. So uh always a good stop when you uh when you're at the Eastern Idol State.

And then if you go to the bread place and you get the bread, yeah. Oh man, we gotta go to the fair. The bread place. Yeah, I can't remember the name of it.

Oh, the you just get that big old slice of bread.

The big old slice of bread.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Oh, yeah, you know. I do know. You like walking around with butter and bread, uh butter and jam on a bread.

Oh man, if I could just do that every day. You can. If ever I'm cranky, if you ever see me and I'm a little bit irritable, just give me a piece of bread and jam. Frown upside down. She's cranky. Get her some bread. Bread and jam stat.

I was just watching the video, and the uh the part of the video came up where you were filming uh our boss Jade and uh and Victor from the morning show on K-Bear, and Victor's trying to eat and he's spilling all over himself. That part of the video just came up. That's that's a good part of the video.

What I didn't include was the times that I spilled on myself.

I was like, It never happened, but I never saw that. Our coworker Jacob, and he was like, You're a nightmare. I was like, yeah no.

I had 17 forks, uh 11 napkins. I was a mess. Yeah, you did. I didn't film any of that stuff.

Well, you uh you didn't put in the part with your forks all crazy on the table in the pile.

Okay. I thought so.

Anyway, you gotta go check out the video and uh enjoy some food at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. There's a ton of food to enjoy.

Just a bit ago, I there was a game on the internet that I got. It was really clickbait, is what it was.

Yeah, because you you saw one picture and then you were like, no, this isn't it.

Well, it said it said, Can you guess these TV sitcom houses? Yeah. And so I clicked on it and I go, ooh, let's play this game.

You showed me one house, it was the house from Full House.

No, it was the Cosby house.

No, yes, it was the inside you showed me was the Cosby house. I'm talking about the one you showed me other than the outside. The first one you showed me. And you said you would get that. You love full house. And I remember Yeah. three times today. You've had to say I was right. That's that's a lot. That's a lot today.

Don't let it get to your head. I am not. Okay, so the game was like outside.

The outside exterior of the house. Houses. Yeah. Right. And I go, oh, this is because it then it showed when I clicked on it, it was like the houses now. And you wouldn't, they were almost unrecognizable because you couldn't even tell what the houses were. So then we started discussing about like if you could remember what your favorite TV sitcom living rooms looked like. Yeah. Yes, I do.

Is the answer to that question? Like talking about them, and then you would draw a map. And I thought, easy, easy. Um there's a couple of of things that we noticed about pretty much every sitcom house living room.

There's a staircase. Yeah. Yeah. And then there's a door to enter the house and a door to the kitchen. That's almost all of them are set up in a linear way. Yep. So the front door is either on the right of your screen or the left of your screen.

The staircase either goes up from the front door to the left, or you know, from the left to the right, or it goes from the front door upstairs. And every one of them has the same kind of thing. They all had the same layout.

And then there were a few examples we came up that were a little different. Uh most of them look that way. So Family Matters looked that way. Uh full house. The full house house looked that way. Um the Cosby Show House looked that way.

Growing panes. I'm looking at Boy Meets World House, same thing. Uh that 70 show, same thing. Like so many shows are built linear on the on the set like that. And and then some of them will extend, like full house would extend into the kitchen. They would go upstairs. They had two upstairs. They had the upstairs in the living room and the upstairs from the kitchen that went up to the to the kids' rooms. That house has two staircases. I don't remember that.

But that's you love Paul Hell.

Because the one that goes upstairs, I do. The one that goes upstairs to to the kids' rooms is the same staircase that goes downstairs to where uh right? Yes, now I know. Right. To Danny's. To the recording studio.

Oh no. That's where Danny lived.

And that's also where chess they both were down there, and that's where they built the recording studio where they recorded jingles for radio people. Jesse and the Rippers. And the band recorded down there too. Yeah. Interesting. Interesting. And then uh, you know, other shows they would take, they would move into the kitchen. Oh, the nanny, Fran Dresher had the staircase too. Same set.

I did not usually watch that one.

Home improvement was different. Home improvement had the front door and the back center. The staircase went up to the left from there. But it was an open kitchen dining room floor plan where a lot of the family stuff took place, and they had the backyard with Wilson. And the garage was an offshoot. They did have the garage sometimes.

What's fun is like if you sit down and try to like draw it out, that's what we did.

Isn't it? No, that's what you did. It was fun. You were like, oh, I remember in uh in Growing Pains, the house looked like this, and the office was over here. Brady Bunch, another one, same staircase, same door entryway, married with children, same thing. Door kitchen stairs.

Hold on, I was trying to remember all the things.

Sometimes an office at the bottom of the staircase.

This was the drawing I made for wings because that was one of my favorite shows. That was an airport. Yeah, it doesn't matter. It wasn't a house. Here was the terminal.

No, I know. You don't have to explain.

And then Antonio would come in here. Antonio to get cabs to get people to buy his cab rides. Helen's lunch counter was over here, and then our kitchen. Hey Brian. And then here was Roy's airport. Yeah. Roy.

What was Roy's uh what was Roy's Aerostar? Oh that was his air, his airline. Arrow Aerospace. No. I don't know. Because the the main airline was just Nantucket Air, wasn't it? Yeah. That's the one that the brothers had.

Roy Biggins, Arrow Mass. It was Arrow Mass. Look at you. It was sandpiper air. Sandpiper. That's right. That's right. I love wings. I gotta watch wings. Where can you watch it? Where can you watch wings? Gift idea. Buy it on DVD. Oh, bro.

That is a good gift idea. Wings. Have you seen it? Yes. It's okay.

A lot. I'll do the airplane noise again. I was reading this thing about psychological phenomena. Do do do do. Phenomena. Do-do-do-do.

Go ahead. So one is called a phantom vibration syndrome, where you get this false sensation that your phone is vibrating or ringing. Yeah. I I find it if I take off my watch.

Oh, really? To like let it charge, sometimes I'm like, oh, my watch is vibrating. And I'm like, you're not wearing a watch. Or if my phone is in my backpack.

Phone in my pocket. I'm like, oh, it's vibrating. It's not. Yeah. So that's one.

That's phantom vibration syndrome. Okay. Then there is.

And these are things that are unexplainable because that's the that's kind of what phenomenon would mean. Yeah.

Um, the doorway effect, and I experience this quite often, is where you forget what you were doing or thinking about immediately after walking into the doorway of a room. Right. Why am I in the kitchen? Uh mine is also like, what was I doing? Yeah.

Then there is uh I talked about that one. Cap capgrass delusion or capgrass syndrome. This is uh a delusion that people think that a friend, a spouse, or a parent, or even a pet has been replaced by an identical imposter.

I had a fish like that once.

That you felt wasn't replaced. Oh You want to you want to tell me about it? What are you talking about?

I feel like we lived in a townhouse and had a fish, and I think something happened to the fish, and then the fish was replaced. I feel like that happened. I it definitely we had the small little aquarium on the kitchen counter. Yeah. Fish didn't get replaced. I think the fish died and got replaced.

I don't think the fish got replaced. I think I think you're thinking of somebody else. I that didn't happen. Okay.

It's been years and years and years and years ago. Twenty some odd years ago, probably. Yeah, I don't think that happened. Feels like it might have.

Oh, I really don't think that it did. I'm being 100% real with you. Fish had a mustache, and then didn't. Yeah. And I think the new fish was

a replacement for the fish that had a mustache. That's what I think happened. I don't know. They had different markings.

Either that didn't happen or I just simply do not remember. It's all things are possible. Or you're remembering something that you heard and thinking that that happened in your real life. I don't think our son likes to do that. Our son like hears things like stories, and then later he'll be like, Oh, remember when we did that thing? I'm like, you weren't there for that. You weren't born yet. And he's like, Yeah, I was. I'm like, no, no. No, you weren't. Yeah. That's gotta be something too.

It's gotta be. Where you've heard a story enough times that you're like, no, I was there. I can see it in my mind. I remember it. It was I remember it vividly. I can see detail.

Then there is the beta Meinha phenomenon, which is known as known as the frequency illusion. So this is where you learn a new word. Oh, yes, and then you see it everywhere.

Or if you have uh you buy a new car and all of a sudden everybody has the same car. Yeah. Or numbers, like you look at a clock and it's always 1134. Yeah, got it. Mm-hmm.

Then you're gonna like this one, Josh. The Tetris effect. Okay. Where you everything is tetris in your brain. So your brain keeps thinking about it. You see falling blocks when you close your eyes. You dream about fitting shapes together. Do you do that? No. You love Tetris. I do. Do you dream about pieces? No, I don't falling into place.

I don't dream about pieces falling into place. What if you've played for quite a while? Uh no. Okay. I've never had a Tetris dream. Really? Never.

I bet you have. You've just forgotten. Because that's the thing. It seems like that's something I'd like to do. That's the thing about dreams. You quite often remember after you wake up, and then hours later you're like, what is that dream? Explain that.

I don't I couldn't. We had when I was in high school, I took a psychology class, and the teacher said, Chris started dream journal. But he said you had to, you have to write down everything you can remember right after waking up. It has to be the first thing that you do, otherwise you'll forget. What is that? Do you still have yours? Uh doubtful.

I'd be curious to know what you were dreaming about. You know what? What?

I bet it might still be at my parents' house. I bet I still have some stuff there. Because I got some cool stuff.

Cool. What kind of cool stuff? Your dream journal and what else? What else still lingers at your childhood home?

I couldn't tell you. I actually don't know. I think I took everything that was valuable. Not valuable, but value valuable to me, sentimental to me.

And you left a bunch of junk, like your dream journal. Yeah. All right. I'm curious to know what you think is still there.

I don't know. I'm gonna have to go dig one of these days. Be like, mom.

That sounds like a solo trip. I'll just not be there for that. One of uh the favorite classes for me that our daughter is taking this trimester in high school is a class about conspiracy theories. Uh and I love conspiracy theories. I think they're a lot of fun to just explore.

Like I don't, I'm not huge on hypotheticals, but I love conspiracy theories that are just like outlandish. Yeah. Like I heard one yesterday and I sent a text and I said, I said to our daughter, I said, Emory, you've got to take this to your class. This is such a weird conspiracy theory. And the conspiracy theory is that rocks are actually squishy until you touch them and then they tense up. And I think that's hilarious. We got all these rocks back here. Prove to me they're not squishy until you touch them. Don't they look squishy?

I mean, I'm looking at the pile of rocks right outside the window, and they don't look very squishy.

But you that's because your brain thinks they're hard because every time you've touched one, it's been tensed up. Like they get nervous. Yeah, they're like, oh, or excited.

Something Yeah, but up until that point, they're squishy.

She sent us a picture just now of some handouts that her teacher gave her. Yeah. And uh they were like, I don't know if it's stuff they're gonna talk about or if they have to highlight stuff they want to touch on. It says, oh, yeah, okay. It says possible topics. Yeah.

So I think this might be something because he was saying he was explaining the classes like you do a research and you do a presentation. Ah. So I think this is a list of different um topics that they can select from to talk about. Now, these are specifically uh like creatures.

Well, yes. What is what's it say is the header? Uh cryptozoology. There you go. So these are like like creatures that have been created, uh, like uh vampires and rock nest monster who you love, Nessie.

Loch Ness monster so bad.

So these are all these kinds of things. Bigfoot is on the list that people would would then have to research and then uh Yeah, our daughter.

present about she highlighted ghosts, ghosts, which I'm not surprised by because she loves ghost hunting shows and skinwalkers.

Oh, don't I said uh what about the Loch Ness monster?

Because I love the Loch Ness monster. Why don't you talk about that? You love Nessie. Oh man.

You have a soup ladle of Nessie, so that when you put the soup ladle in the soup, just Nessie's head pops out.

I want a sticker on my car. Yeah? Yeah. What kind? Uh I don't know.

Like a like what do you want? You want like a like a Loch Ness monster thing and it says I believe. No. Or do you just want just the Maybe just Nessie? I don't know yet. I have I can't commit to one.

We were at a restaurant not too long ago, and there was a our waitress had a Loch Ness monster tattoo, and I kind of accosted her a little bit.

Yeah, you were like, that tattoo's so cool.

I grabbed your arm and it was like.

Yeah, because it was like right on her bicep above her inner elbow, and you were like, Let me see that.

And then I apologized and I said, I'm I'm really sorry I grabbed you.

I just got really like I love I love Nessie.

I do love Nessie.

Uh that's an interesting thing that you love Nessie. Why? Why? Because is the question. Why?

Because Oh, okay. solves it.

Like you have no tie to To Scotland. Yeah. No. I don't. But I like I like underwater mysteries.

Okay. All right. I like, I really believe the Loch Ness monster existed. Do I believe he still exists? Maybe not. But I think that at some point in time there was something large that lived in that body of water. And it was a mystery, and he or she remained hidden from public view, and that is fascinating to me. Okay. I just love it.

Okay. Makes sense. He was just shy. Oh I'm embarrassed. Don't take my picture. Okay. Well.

Even though there was a man who came out and said, like, I took the picture. It was all a scam. The Loch Nest monster doesn't exist. I don't buy it. I think there's something in that body of water. And I'm gonna I'm gonna No, I'm not gonna prove it. You know why? Because it needs to remain a mystery.

Go write a report about Nessie, I guess. I don't know what to tell you. You have you have a thing with the Loch Ness monster, and I don't know what it is, but you want to be friends. I don't know. Let's go swim together. I'll hold your little fin. You can push me around like a dolphin. What do you want?

I don't know. I don't know what I want. You want to go there. Well, yeah. You want to go to Loch Ness. Oh, for sure.

And camp and stay up all night and peer out with night vision. No, I I not to solve anything, just for your own. Yeah.

And I think if the Loch Ness monster knows that I'm a true believer, he's or she is gonna say, I'll show you. Yeah. I'll give you a sneak peek.

There's a whole family down there. Wow. Would you rather this or that?

It's a fall edition.

Oh, we're transitioning. Look at you. You've done it. We're moving the fall.

Yeah, I even kind of wore a fall sweater today.

That's I wouldn't. You've worn that all summer. It's not a false.

But it's colored fall. It's like a green. It's like a sweatery thing.

Even though it has- You wear that all the time. Yeah, but it's like fall. No, it's not. It's any time of year. Now listen, if you feel fall when you're wearing it, that's the transition. But let's get through this weekend of summer. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's wrap up the summer weekend. But that's fine. A leaning into fall edition of would you rather this or that?

Would you rather live in a house made of hay bells or a house made of corn stalks?

I'm gonna choose corn stocks. Why? Because if you dry them out, as I'm learning, they are just like wood. And that would be like uh like a log cabiny type. You're gonna need a lot of them. Well, you need a lot of wood to build a house, too. Don't you? Yeah. Yeah. So yeah.

I feel like there's gonna be less mess because straw gets and hay gets everywhere. So I'm probably gonna.

I'm also gonna say I've never seen uh a hay house. A house made out of Hay is different. That's alfalfa, uh, not straw, which is uh byproduct of uh grain. So I'm gonna I'm gonna say if you meant straw bale, uh there's also I've never seen one with a roof. I've never seen a straw house with a roof made out of bales. You know what I mean? Yeah, no I mean yeah,

I was I had to look up what the three little pigs' houses were made of because I couldn't straw sticks and bricks. Yeah, yeah. Good job. Thanks.

And the stick one did pretty good against the big bad wolf, I would say. He had to huff and puff a few times. It was medium, yeah.

But the straw one certainly didn't blew right away.

Yeah, one huff and puff and it was gone. So I'm picking uh the the stalks, yeah. Me too. Mostly because uh Huff and Puff will dismantle my house real fast.

Yeah. And we can't have that. No way, man.

Right. You gotta have a little bit of time to get away from the big bad wolf.

I need a little bit of sturdiness.

And then you can go wee wee wee wee wee all the way to the brick home. You know what I mean? I get you. Yeah. Corn stocks.

Well, that's a different little pig. Hold on. You're no kidding.

Would you rather this or that? Josh. Yeah. You're 10 years old. I'm not. And no, just go back and oh, you say pretend you're 10 years old. Okay.

And it's take your kids to work day. Okay. Where are you going with your parents?

Well, let's see. I'm 10. So I'm either going uh into an attic to do some uh blow-in insulation. Okay. Or I'm uh gonna go uh to the leather glove factory and sew thumbs on gloves. Ew. Those are my options.

Your options are awful.

That's uh that's where my parents were at when I was 10. I'd rather go to school. Where are you going?

I'm going to the bowling alley. Yeah, which you did anyway. The Ydell Bowl in Burley, Idaho. Just gone. Bulldoze. That's where I grew up. And they bulldozed it to the ground.

And then built an orthodontist on top of it on its remains. Okay.

Or I'm going truck driving with my dad.

You're hopping in the long haul.

Yes. My options are cool.

So uh well, mine are awesome. I get to sew, or I get to do insulation. No. What are you picking?

I'm gonna go to the bowling alley because that's what I did anyway. So you can't pick that. Why can't I? Because that's your comfort zone. Okay, fine. I guess I'm going truck driving.

We're going long haul trucking. What are you gonna see? I don't know.

He always went to um Glen's Ferry. That is like a place he always talked about going. Yeah. Or I can't remember.

You have to go north? Like Yeah. Yeah.

He always went north and to like Oregon and stuff. Yeah.

Because he drove for Orida. He did. Which is Oregon, Idaho. Correct. Or Ida. We were hauling spuds. That's right. Now you were hauling like uh he was hauling finished product from warehouses. Yeah, he was. So it was he was like packaged goods. taking it to like grocery store distribution and stuff.

I guess. I don't actually know.

He didn't take it to grocery stores and like unload it. He would take it to like the Orida warehouses to be distributed. Sure. That's what I'm pretty sure. I couldn't tell you. Isn't that bad that I don't know?

Why would that be bad? I don't know. You were 10. Yeah, I didn't.

I didn't care to ask. Yeah, where are you going? What do you do? Do you drop them off at the grocery store? Uh or the bowling alley, which your mom worked there for years and years. He's like retired from the bowling alley. Uh and what was her main role? I mean, everything.

She did She did everything there.

She would activate the lanes for the for the people. She would help with the league. She did the food, like all the things.

Oh, she did all the things. Yeah.

Have to run in the back and kick a ball back down a return.

What did I do while I was there? That's right. Everything.

Now, when you say everything, you didn't work there.

No, I didn't work there, but I did all kinds of stuff there. I went behind the lanes. I what'd you do back there? Oh.

Just tried not to lose a limb. That's what. Don't touch that machine.

There was open insulation on one side, active polling lanes on the other side.

Now, when you say open insulation, you mean like fiberglass insulation? Yes. I know about that because see, my dad was in insulation, and so I was in the attics doing the blow-in insulation at 10.

But then there was this really, it was very narrow. It was a narrow hallway. And you had to, you couldn't touch the insulation on this

side and you couldn't get close to the bowling. Or lose a limb. Yeah.

So it was like, oh Why were you back there? Because I was dangerous. You should not have been back there. No, I shouldn't.

That's it. I know a lot about you. You should not have been back there. That's why I was sneaky.

I could have been seriously injured, but I could sneak. Nobody cared where I was. Why were you back there? Because it was 1990 and nobody cared where I was.

No, no, I know. What were you doing? Like why were you hanging out back there?

Because I wanted to see if I could. You just it was fun to go back there because you weren't supposed to. They all said don't go back there. And I said, Well, I'm now I'm gonna go back there because you told me not to. Duh. That's what kids do. You say don't push that red button, guess what they're gonna do? Push the red button. You say don't go behind the lanes, I'm going behind the lanes.

Right. Because I'm dangerous. Oh, no.

You're disobedient. That too. Yeah. You can't tell me what to do.
