This
is an interesting study they did, and they found out that people that are bored are more aggressive. And it's interesting. The way they figured this out was they had a bunch of people and they had half of the group watch this 25-minute documentary about a local park. And the other half of the people watched a 25-minute video of a man folding laundry. And then what they did is they had all the participants come out and uh they said, here's a punching bag, go nuts. And they the people who watched the dull videos ended up hitting the punching bag harder and more frequently than people who watched the interesting video. Uh so the park, the people watched the video about the local park were like, I'm gonna take it out on this bag. And the people who watched a man folding laundry, also boring, but a little bit more engaging, were not as violent.
And they so they have attributed this to the boredom of it, where people are like, I'm bored and I gotta do something to like I got some I got some need for some excitement, and I'm gonna take it out in violence. Fascinating. Isn't that that's that was a study? Yes, that was science. Scientists, They got funding for it. yeah.
Who funded that? Exactly. Uh interesting though. They said that the brain uh starts looking for a big rush to wake itself up. Fascinating. And it's like, oh, punching bag, that'll do.
That probably that's interesting because we need to get off of our phones. All of us do. I think our phones are boring. And I wonder if that's making people more aggressive.
Yeah, maybe. Maybe somebody do the research. They say if you want to combat the boredom, you should weave some gym time or some fun hobbies in your day to burn off that extra board energy so that you don't turn violent and crazy. Oh no. Yeah. And so now when you do that to me, and you're like, I just want attention. I'm basically saying, you need to go stimulate your brain elsewhere.
I don't get violent when I'm bored.
You do, and you get like in all in my space, and you're like, I just want to be here. And then I'm like, what are you doing? And then you start getting shovy. Shovey. Yeah, shove. What do you mean by shovy? You start shoving at me. No. Hey, look at me when you disagree. No. Yeah. Yeah, you do. I don't get shovy. You do.
Okay, the next time you think I get shovy, yeah. Say you're getting shovy, so I know what it looks like. I want you to point it out.
I think you're getting a little shovy right now. Shovby. See, I knew it. Get a punching bag.
Yeah, I asked for one for Christmas two years ago. Never got that gift.
Oh, Holy moly.
You I think I'm shovy. You just wait.
Holy moly.
Shovey's gonna be my middle name. All right.
Or later in the show, you will. I was gonna say earlier in the show, because we record this at the end of the show. Uh, you got a new nickname and uh new middle name. And you also funded your own science. No. So there's a lot going on in the beginning part in this intro bonus segment of the show that is part of the whole show.
It'll make more sense if you listen to the whole thing. Yeah. That's what we have to do. Yeah. We have to do like cryptid bonuses. So it's like you're not gonna understand this joke until you listen to the whole show.
No, buckle in, because it's gonna be a big reveal. Click. Okay. Buckled. Well, here's today's show. Well. Well. Guess what? What's up? It's Friday. I knew that. Yeah, you did. Uh worked all week to get to here, and now here we are. Here we are. Isn't that something? Oh, it's something. What is it? It's something.
Yeah? Something wonderful. Okay. We've got traveling happening this week. We do. Which uh which should be interesting, going to a birthday party. That's right. Uh for a one-year-old. Yeah, we are. Which is, you know.
Hitting my old stomping grounds of Burley, Idaho. Oh boy. Oh boy. Every time I go back to Burley, I go, Oh, yeah, I remember why I left.
And then That's all it takes is one drive-through.
Yeah. And then my family gets offended and they go, it's a nice place to live. And they go, no. It's not that I mean, so much has changed.
Every time we go back, there's something new. Is there? No. We've been together for uh what we met in 23 years ago. I think uh the only new thing is North Adonis' office. A dollar store. You got a new dollar store. I have no idea. Oh. I don't keep tabs.
Well, I'm just thinking like what I know is that there was I was friends with an old high school friend, and he was living in Boise, and a couple years ago he put that he was moving back to Burley, and I went, why? And he I got attacked, not attacked, but there were a lot of people in the comments that were like, it's a great place to live. And I went, no.
Have you tried not living there? I get it. Look, it's a town, and people love their towns. People do love their and and so people are gonna defend their towns that they love. I understand. And it's a small town. Yeah.
And people like the small. Sorry. I didn't think that was gonna be that noisy. Sit still. People like their small towns.
Yeah, I know they do. And then they go somewhere else, and then they like even if they go visit somewhere else, they go, no, that place is too crazy. Yeah. I could never. There's too many people. There's too much action. And I go like, okay. Yeah. That's not I'm not cut out for that. Not that East Idaho is large, but it's certainly larger than some small singular towns. Yeah, large air.
So yeah, we're we're headed down to the to the bee town. Oh, okay. And oh, and then a a stop in twin because here's the thing about Burley. Yeah.
If you if you if you're going to Burley, you actually are going to twins.
Yeah, because there's nowhere to eat in Burley. So you have to go eat in twin. Right. And shop in twin. Right. Yeah, it's a good time. It'll be fun. It'll be fine.
So uh the family time will be fun. Later on. For that part. Are we leaving today? Yep. Oh man, I haven't packed. I haven't either.
I have to get all my RC crawler stuff together. I've got to get all the fishing stuff out of the truck. Like I've got a big deal.
Yeah, we got we got stuff to do. Man. I was gonna do it yesterday, and we ran out of time. That happens, doesn't it? Okay. It'll be cool. It'll be a cool, cool weekend. Okay.
Well, it's Friday. I'm excited about that. Same. Let's let's get this thing going. Ready? Yes. So today's good news story is about a five-year-old boy in Michigan. He is being celebrated as a hero. Uh Terry is his grandma, and she collapsed from dehydration while watching her grandchildren. And young Hudson jumped into action. His first idea was to grab grandma's keys and drive to find help.
But luckily he couldn't find the keys, or this story could be a completely different story. Hudson's next idea, and again he's five, Hudson's next idea was much better. He grabbed his little sister Harper. He kept her safely on the grass and walked to Flagdown, passing neighbors. He guided the helpful drivers back to the house to call 911, making sure first responders arrived quickly, and it all worked out. Deputies from the sheriff's office arrived.
They were able to care for Terry and arrange for a trip to the hospital, uh, where she made a full recovery. Earlier this week, local officials presented both Hudson and Harper with a citizen's citation award, uh, making them the youngest recipients of the award in county history. Hudson. Yeah.
Doing good stuff, buddy.
Right. Five years old. Got the little sister there, got grandma. She had a dehydration thing. She fell down. And he said, I gotta go. We gotta we gotta save my grandma. And what does he call his grandma? Grandma Terry doesn't say Gam Gam.
No, sure not. That's awesome. Good job, little buddy. Yeah, really, really cool. And uh super happy that the story went uh, you know, positively. That's it's really cool. So uh anyway, well done, Hudson, and uh I'm glad everybody is safe. That and drink your water is good news and get electrolytes, yes.
Hey, speaking of, do you know where our electrolytes are? I tried to find them yesterday. I couldn't. We'll talk about it later. Sure. It's good news. Have you ever been looking at your face?
Okay, this one's already starting off weird. And you go ahead.
And you go, Oh, where did that wrinkle come from? No. Have you noticed this wrinkle on me before? What wrinkle? This one.
I don't even see a wrinkle. It's right here. Right here. You ever overthink something?
I'm not listen to me. I'm not overthinking it. I just looked at my face and I went, Oh, I haven't noticed that one there before.
I don't even see a wrinkle. Well, you have to get close.
Like these ones, these smile lines. Yeah, those have been there for a while. Yeah, these crow's feet. Those have been there for a while. Yeah, these under eye wrinkles a while. Right. This one. Who gave you a mirror? New. That's a new one. I'm not. Listen to me. I'm not upset or I'm overthinking it.
I just really don't even see what you're seeing.
Well, you gotta get close, Josh.
Do you think it might just be weird lighting?
No, that is absolutely 100% a wrinkle. And so then I go, hmm. Did that just develop overnight? Probably. Or has it been there for a couple of days and I just noticed it?
Just like a pimple. They show up that quick. Pimples and wrinkles. Yeah. You are the worst. Yeah, just cover your face with little star patches.
To cover the wrinkles. It will start wrinkle patches. I'm not mad. I'm not, I'm really not mad about wrinkles because my mom spent her whole life trying to fight her wrinkles. She still is my mom is. I know. She would buy all of the creams, all of the magic cures.
And I've seen them starting to show up in our house.
Nothing is uh-uh.
You got that one you drip on your face. What is that? That's just collagen. Yeah, what's that for?
That's like to keep your skin hydrated because your skin gets dry as you get older. Okay. Chill down, dude. Sure. Sure. What? I just these, I like the left wrinkles, right? Because that means that I smile. Sure. and if And if I keep smiling, then you can't even see them.
Oh. It's just when I make any other face that my smile wrinkles go, here I am. And I don't mind even the eye crinkles because again, eye crinkles and smile wrinkles.
What are you talking about? See? Okay. That just means I have clearly defined uh whatever those crow's feet at the side of my eyes. I have yeah. Like them on you. Same. Yeah. And then I have this forehead thing. Don't do that. That you don't like.
No, I don't like that. Why? Because that's a mad face for one. No. Mm-hmm. See? That's no. Make that laughing face again. Stop it. Your face is gonna freeze like that. Oh no.
And then what? Only mad? Only mad.
That would be the worst. No. Only mad face. But happy. But any emotion. Attitude. Yeah. Just mad eyebrow. I just, I'm not upset. I just went, hmm. Where'd that one come from?
I think every day my beard gets wider. I think that's a thing. Like every every time I look in the mirror, which isn't super often, but Why? I've seen it. I don't need to look again. But when I look, you know, I probably look in a mirror maybe two, three times a day tops.
You don't look in the mirror when you go to the bathroom? Yeah. Okay. Sometimes. Sometimes. But I not not every time.
I wash my hands. The mirror's there, but I don't spend time in it. You have to. Why?
Well, you gotta check if your teeth if you've got anything in your teeth, and then you gotta check your nose and see if there's anything in your nose. And then you gotta make sure that your hair's on point. What is that?
I spend way less time.
I wash, and while I'm washing, I'm looking at all my face parts. Okay. Making sure I'm still my makeup still on. Great. Right. My hair's still good. Great.
That's that's legit. I get that. Yeah. I use the restroom. I go to wash my hands. I see there's a mirror, and I go, Oh, there's that guy again. Look at his white beard. Yeah. Dry my hands and I leave. That's it. Like, I'm not spending any time in there. And if a bathroom didn't have a mirror, it'd be just the same. I'd braid them out.
I hate bathrooms with no mirrors. I gotta check my teeth. If nothing else, if there's anything in my teeth, good. Okay. I don't even do that. Sometimes when I check my teeth, I go, Oh, how long has that been there? Yeah.
And why didn't my daughter tell me?
My daughter or my husband or a coworker. Right. I never expected. Because nobody's looking. My son to tell me because he absolutely is not looking.
Well, I'm excited. Do you want to name your uh new chin wrinkle there?
Or how do you know it was on my chin if you couldn't see it? Because it's where you pointed. Okay. Um, No. Oh, okay. I'm okay. All right. No, it's just part of me now. Because here's the thing about wrinkles. They don't go away. No.
Maybe you can drip some collagen in there. See if that helps. I am gonna nickname you Mrs. Science. Let's go. I'm so excited to learn right now.
I'm so good at explaining science.
Let's get scientific.
First of all, what I want to say is there are many different uh areas of science, right?
Well, yeah. We got geologists and all of theology. Yeah. There's all kinds of kinds of different... Ologies and anomies.
branches of science. And then somewhere in labs, there are people who are like, let's let's determine why can't people tickle themselves. All right.
Let's let's research this. Exactly. And now can you not?
What I want to know first, before we get into the science, is who determines, like, hey guys, today we're gonna research why people can't really tickle themselves.
I think it's probably an independent study. And then somebody goes, I really want to research this. I need some funding. And so then they approach funding people and they go, hey, uh, we would like to research, and they go, Who's your team?
And then you go, it's just me. I have a curiosity and I would like to do some research, and I understand how the scientific method works, and I'd like to apply that with a little bit of funding. I can uh I can bring in test subjects and we can have a, you know, a real actual science experiment about why you can't tickle yourself. And that panel of people went, it's worth $500, right? Like we could give her $500 and she could research this. And then it gets published because she got five hundred dollars. Yeah.
I think that's probably how I think it's it's fascinating.
It's like shark tank for science.
And then the articles you read just say scientists. Right. Who? Yeah, who? Name them. So scientists think that they've pinpointed why people can't really tickle themselves.
It's gotta be because you there's an anticipation thing, right?
Yeah, that's absolutely it's the uncontrollable that makes it like, oh, it's gonna tickle.
It says the leading theory. So there's other theories, but the leading theory is that your brain will predict the timing of its own movements, totally agree. And then it turns down the tickling sensation before the touch even happens. Yeah, I totally agree. I wonder if that's similar to a back scratch. You know, like back scratches from other people feel better than when you do it yourself.
Well, it's because you can reach spots I can't without hurting my muscles and my elbows and my arms.
Yeah, but even still, the spots that I can reach, it feels better when somebody else scratches them. Yes.
I don't know that it's because of the same reason. I think it it might be let's research it.
We gotta get some funding.
I'm not I'm not shark tank sciencing this. Yes, we'd like to learn more about why back scratching feels better when someone else does.
And then somebody will report it, and then we can be known as scientists.
Scientists have discovered Josh! your face. You could be scientists about anything, it's just the scientific method. You have to have a hypothesis, you have to test it, and then you have to come up with a results. It's real simple.
It's real simple. Right. Science is real simple.
I mean, when you break it down to the fundamentals, yeah, the individual testing of the hypothesis can be complicated. But that's how it works.
I going back to the science of this. I think it's actually fascinating that our brain is like, no, I I know what's coming. But then you can't trick me.
So if you accidentally tickle yourself, like you uh you brush your foot across some sort of thing, and uh and you go, whoa, is that the same? Or was that a self-tickle? I don't know the answer to that.
And it was an accidental self-tickle.
Right. So it wouldn't trigger the the auto response in your brain to go, nope, that's gonna tickle. Right. Turn that down. Right. Interesting.
I mean, I think I didn't do all of the research.
You know, like when you walk by and you go zing up a foot. Yeah, and then your leg goes, nah. I bet you could do that to yourself. I bet I could. Right.
I can't think about it first, though.
Oh, you'd have to block out. Yeah. I gotta trick my brain.
I can't think about it.
Yeah, this was worth the $500.
The funding was because my brain's gonna know. My brain's gonna be like, you just talked about this. I know that I know that's coming. You can't fool me.
You can't fool a fool. You can't. So well, good good for you.
So now I want to just spend the day like trying to trick myself into tickling it.
That's like trying to get rid of your own hiccups. Like, I'm gonna scare myself. I don't think that's how it works. I'm scared of myself. I scared myself. No more hiccups. No. And then you immediately go. Yeah. Well, thank you for sharing uh that Mrs. Science. Mrs.
Science. That could actually be my name. If I get some research funding. For your weird idea. Mrs. Science. Okay.
And Mrs. Science discovers.
Chantel Science. That could be my new middle name. What? Our son is very much a creature of comfort. He likes what he likes. And if we change things up a bit, he doesn't understand. He doesn't adapt to change very well.
Well, listen, he he made a very good point last night. Dinner was uh these little taco bowls. Yeah. And uh taco cups. And basically you make all the filling, and then you take the tortillas and you cut uh four little slices in there, uh, and you leave the center as like the bottom and you put it into a muffin tin. Yes, and it creates a little taco cup. And you bake them so they crisp up a little bit. Yeah, and you put all the filling in it. How fun.
It is how fun, you know? And so we get dinner ready and we go, you know, hey kids, come on, dinner's done. Come come eat, you know, and everybody filters into the kitchen to build their plate, and uh, and he's he looks at all the stuff and just says, couldn't this have just been a regular taco?
Couldn't this have just been regular tacos? Why how am I supposed to eat? How am I supposed to eat this? Like you can't hold it because it's a it's a weird shape. You can't put the whole thing in your mouth because it's too big for that. And I said, Well, you could use a fork, and he went, It's a taco. Why you eat a taco with your hands? Why do I have to use a fork for taco? I mean, he's got a good point.
He did have a good point because it it could have been it just could have been a taco.
But couldn't anything just be a taco?
He has the same complaint when I make like tostadas because it's like I don't understand. That's what I'm saying. I can't why did you have to crisp up my taco shell?
Why couldn't I just have this as a regular taco? Like now it's this crunchy thing, and I don't like that.
And I my argument was like, it's fun. It's different. Look how fun it is. You get to hold it like this and take a bite.
It was inconvenient, and I had to use a fork to eat it. It wasn't the easiest meal.
No, agreed. Parts of my little taco cup kept falling off, and then I was using it as a nacho.
And every time you did that, you said, oh, nacho. Then I'd say, fun. Yeah. So fun. Couldn't this have just been a regular taco? I think is the true statement for anything that you eat that is Mexican food and is not a taco. Couldn't this have just been a taco? This burrito. If it was laid out flat in the shell instead of rolled up, couldn't that have just been a regular taco? Yes. Enchiladas. Could have been a regular taco. No. Extra sauce inside.
No.
Put it inside. It doesn't have to be smothered on the outside. Put the enchilada sauce inside and make it a regular taco with extra sauce.
No, it's different.
I know it's different. It's baked. Yeah, exactly. So the cheese can melt over the top with the sauce.
He was not a fan of the taco cup meal. No.
I mean, he ate a couple of them, so he wasn't.
They were good. I mean, the flavor was good. It was delicious. Some a little black beans and some corn and some chalula. Yes. Delicious. It was good. I put a little too much chalula in mine. Did you?
Oh, yeah, it was a little spicy, but that's the way I like it. Okay. It's fun. It is it was fun. I liked it. And you get to hold it in like the little palm of your hand. You go, hmm. Taco cup.
I didn't hold mine like that. How'd you hold it? I didn't. I used a fork.
You didn't hold it in your hand? Because you could kind of pinch it too. I didn't.
That would be how you would eat a normal taco. It wasn't. It was a cup on a plate with a fork.
Yeah, I know. I I had the same meal that you did.
But I ate mine on the plate with a fork. I didn't pick it up.
I will know that I I got the ingredients out to cook dinner last night, and then you grabbed the meat. Yeah. And you said something. I didn't want to cook. I had cooked the previous two nights in a row.
I just said, let's cook together.
No, yeah, I said something. Oh, I can't remember. You said something about the meat. And I said, No, are you cooking or am I cooking? And you said, let's cook together.
Right. And you didn't say, Oh, you said, Well, I'm making the salad. Which wasn't even a salad. It was an ingredient that was part of the meal. Yeah.
It was lettuce. With some dressing.
It was lettuce and a dressing that went into the the filling. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Most of all, I just didn't cook together. I didn't want to cook the meat. I know. I took care of that. You cook it. I said, I'm gonna put some onions and stuff in the meat. And you went, Oh, are you cooking? That's it. And I said, and I said, the meat. Well, I'm making the salad.
You said, let's cook together. Yeah. Like it's supposed to be romantic. What? Cooking is not romantic. Why? Because it's not. I don't know. It could be.
You were a little more open-minded about cooking. Instead, you're like, no, you cook, and I'm gonna sit over here in your chair at the table and scroll out.
Scroll and do something else. Yeah. Yeah. That's my that's my role on the team. Right. After the salad's made. Yeah. Exactly. Okay. I clean up the dishes as you're doing. I know. As you're using them.
You almost put away the dishes I was still using. I had to go, I'm not done with that knife.
If you want a fun meal for tonight, taco bowls. Taco cups. Cups.
They could they could just be regular tacos.
We were there last night watching TV, and I said to you. What is two thirds in a decimal point?
And yeah, I could have just answered the question.
You should have just answered that.
But I wanted you to be able to understand the fractions and the decimals that are the fractions. And it was really a lot more difficult to explain than I needed explaining.
I should have just Googled it, man. Because you were like, okay, okay.
Well, look, I like I said, I really wanted you to be able to answer it yourself so that you would be able to figure it out. And I went I think I could explain this. And then as I got into explaining it, I went, I can't explain this, right? Like I know how I do it in my head and how I figured it out, and now I just know it, but I didn't know how to convey it properly. And then I got lost in trying to explain it. Yeah. And then I got frustrated about it, and I just went, look, here's the answer, but I don't know how to explain it.
Even our daughter who's really, really good at math was like, What are you talking about, Dad? Why are you explaining it like this? I know. Just don't next time. Just don't. Just give me. the Just give me the answer. I know.
I don't know how to explain it properly.
It's okay. I didn't need you to explain it.
No, I know, but I wanted to be able to explain it so that you could figure out how to turn one third into a decimal without having to think about it. And because I've somewhere along the way figured it out. And I thought, well, I could probably explain math. To me? Yeah. Highly doubtful. Nah. It didn't work so well.
There have been times when you have explained math to me in a way that I understand. And which I greatly appreciate. Last night was not one of those instances.
What happened is I got stuck on on trying to explain that you have to have an extra percentage because 3 plus three plus three is nine, not ten. And then I went, I can't get I can't get there.
I can't figure out how to make all this make sense because you have to actually have an extra. And then that's when our daughter Emory went, Why are you talking about that? Yeah, why are you? Why don't you just explain the one-third?
Yeah.
She's like, she wants to know what two thirds is. It's two divided by three. And I went, I know, but she's not gonna do that math. And then she was trying to explain it. You can't put two into three because you don't have enough. And so it's gonna be less than one. And then it was like it was just it just was off the rails.
It was off the rails. And I said, I just wanted a quick answer. We were watching a show, and I said, Hey, quickly, just somebody tell me this really fast. Yeah. I know. And then we wanted to help you. Let me explain it.
And I went, oh we wanted to help, but it didn't work.
I just tuned out automatically. You're like, let me teach you. And I went, No, I'm not even look paying attention. I know. I'm not in school anymore. Especially not for math. Ugh. I know. Thanks for trying.
I don't know if I tried hard enough. I I've been trying to look this morning to see if I could find other ways to help you figure out how to convert the one-third or the two third fraction into a decimal. Um It's okay. I'll just Google it. It's okay. I'm totally good. So it's good. I feel bad that I couldn't explain. No, no, no.
Get in line with all my other math teachers. Yeah.
I'm gonna research it a little more, and then I'm gonna come back with some like, look at this. Look how excited you are about it. Can't wait. Yeah.
You're not even looking at me. You're like, great. Eyes on the ceiling. This will be fun. Can't even wait.
Let's just have math on the whole drive. Uh we got two-hour drive later on. Let's just talk math the whole time. We'll get it figured out. By the time we reach the destination, two hours, we will have explained enough that you'll be like, I get it now. Doubtful.
Okay. Do you want to hear the new latest trend?
I guess. I mean, I'm gonna.
The new TikTok trend. All right. They're calling it floor time, but I'm gonna call it tummy time. Okay. All right. It's a wellness trend.
Okay. This is probably literally like lay on your belly and read, or like do a craft.
Sit or lay on the floor to give your chance your body a chance to slow down and decompress. That's it. That's it. Yeah, it's tummy time. Find a comfortable spot. Put your phone away, spend a few minutes relaxing. It's so well. It's for wellness. Okay. It's for your wellness. All right. Your mental health.
Okay. Listen. It might be beneficial.
I was watching a video yesterday, and it was an adult woman, and she said, hey, hey, hey. She's like, When was the last time you did this? And she got on a chair, like a like a couch or a chair, and she put her feet above the back of the couch, and then she dangled her head on the floor.
Yeah, I saw that.
And she goes, When was the last time you did this? As a kid, I did this all the time. Yeah. She goes, just do this. As an adult, just do it. It'll feel so good. You'll love it. It'll kind of decompress your back a little bit. You'll feel a little bit more whimsical. Okay. So I kind of want to do that. That's gonna be my wellness trend is just dangling from the couch. What? I need something a little more than tummy time, is what I'm saying.
Here's what I'm saying. What? When's the last time you were upside down? And then secondarily, uh, when's the last time you're upside down and the dog left you alone? Dude.
Yeah, let's talk about that for a minute, shall we? Because I have a one of those little roly devices that kind of helps pop your back. I was trying to do that the other day, and here comes the dog. Yeah.
She's real curious about why are you down on the floor with me.
Please just leave me alone.
Why are you down here though? You came down here. Are you down here to visit me?
I know. I gave her food to kind of distract her. Yeah. And she was eating food, and then when she saw that I was on the floor, she dumped all the food from her mouth and ran over.
Yeah, look, you're on the floor. What's up? She was very excited. You were gonna hang out with her. She was very excited until I pushed her away.
Oh, poor dog. Poor dog Anyway, try some tummy time this weekend.
I think it might be a good idea. I'm trying to figure out what I could do for a few minutes on my tummy.
If you you will fall asleep. You think? Depends on how long you're there for. How long did it say? It says just a couple of minutes. Okay. But here's what's here's what would happen to you. You'd lay down, tummy or not. You're just on the floor laying there. And if you're on your back, you've got your hands across your chest.
I picture this right now. Okay. And you close your eyes and you're like, I'm just decompressing right now.
Yeah. And then you won't get up and you won't get up, and then soon you're gonna be snoring in a matter of minutes. Doesn't that sound awesome? If you're on your tummy, yeah. Your hands are above your head. Okay. And you're just laying there. Yeah. Out. Doesn't that sound awesome?
I'm trying to find the problem here. What's the problem? There's no problem.
There is absolutely no problem.
Do you wish you could do that? I want to do this. You want to fall asleep that fast? Uh-huh. It's not hard.
I fell asleep pretty quickly at the end of the day. I just it's it's hard in the middle of the day for me. Oh, you should have to do that. Because there's still a lot going on.
You should try middle of the day nap. I want to. I'd be happy to. Yeah.
I just think this TikTok trend is funny because uh all these people are like, let's try this wellness trend where we just lay. It's just lay.
Yeah, tummy time. I like the tummy time. I think that's awesome. I just want to try the dangle your feet on the couch thing. When was the last time you did that? A long time. I know. It was very little the last time.
I know, which is why we have to do it to get our whimsy back. Hey, I'm over here. I know.
Get your whimsy back. Now you're whimsy maxing. That's a huge thing on the internet, right? What? Oh, yeah. What is this? You're gonna have to look into it. No, just tell me. People are all about whimsy. So they're doing whimsical things as much as they possibly can. What's a whimsical thing? Hanging upside down on a couch, I guess. People are going out and doing like art and stuff.
Oh, that's not whimsy. That's just putting your phone away and actually living life. You're correct.
I get amazed at what people can create. Uh there is a guy who created this. Do you see this? How would you describe that? Uh, can I hold it? Well, just say what it looks like.
Well, I can't, I can't can I hold it?
Is it I need to be able to hit play in the second?
Oh, okay. Well, it looks like a table of some kind, like an end table. All right. And then on top of the end table, it looks like some kind of a water feature. Oh, okay. It's not that at all. Well, I couldn't hold your phone, so I couldn't get a closer look.
I mean, it almost looks like a little weird drum set sitting on top of a table.
I need to hit play. I'll give it back. That's there's water in there.
No, there's not. Let me tell you what this thing is. Okay. So this guy invented and 3D printed this. And then he used uh Raspberry Pi. Do you know what that is?
But not the pie you eat. Uh it's a it's uh it's a little computer, basically, and you can build software. Yeah, I've heard of it. So he created this thing. He bought a box of Lego at the Goodwill, and it was just random pieces, and he built this to sort an inventory every single piece.
Whoa. And then it runs those pieces through an algorithm that tells you which sets those pieces are from and can build, and then he was able to determine which sets he had all the pieces for. He ended up learning that he only had like pieces to a few small sets, and everything else was like 30% or 40% of full sets that he actually wanted. And so uh anyway, he was able to then turn that into he said, I'm just gonna sort them all out into my collection instead. So he resorted them by piece. So he says, Here's all the headlight pieces, those go in my headlight piece bin. We spent weeks weeks sorting Legos.
Our son had a box full of Legos, and he wanted to build them, and he got a little this was years and years and years and years ago, and he would get overwhelmed because he couldn't remember what pieces he had that went to what particular device. And so, yes, he went away for the weekend, and we were like, hey, as a cool, let's have him come back. We'll have all of his pieces sorted. We've got we all we bought organization tools, we labeled everything. We're like, here's your two by two pieces, here's your two by four. We spent that took an entire weekend. Hours.
Dumped everything on the floor. And he came home and he was really, really impressed. And then it didn't last a week.
I mean, it was very short-lived, that everything was just a jumbled uh disaster.
Now that he's older and he can appreciate it more, he often says, I wish that they were still sorted.
But they were still sorted. Well, he can uh he can reach out to this guy, and this guy sorts Lego with a thing he 3D printed.
I was gonna say, or you can did he give away that pattern
I imagine, well, or the software or whatever, I'm sure. Like I'm sure this is all open source stuff. Fascinating. Isn't that so cool?
I love I love sometimes what people can create. Yeah.
I saw that and I went, ah, that would have been nice. That's incredible. I know. And it inventoried everything. Do you show ours on that? No, I just saw it this morning.
He'll lose his mind if he sees that. Yeah.
Anyway, it it can be built. That's the thing I love about like people go. I have this box of unsorted random secondhand lego, and I want to know what sets these are from. And he went, I think I can figure out how to build that. That's so cool. Isn't that crazy? That's amazing. Yeah. I'm amazed. And it sorts them into little cardboards. That whole tower is different levels and all the way around is little boxes that it can sort those Lego into for individual things.
That's what we need to be using AI for.
That's what I'm saying. That's brilliant. Brilliant. Let AI work for us. Not the other way around. That's right. Hey, hey. Hey. What's up? Glad you're here. You gave me some disturbing news. Uh just a minute ago. You were uh filling out your spreadsheet of life. Uh what is this thing? What you what's this thing? This is a life tracker.
It's called my do better. That's what that's what you call it. That's what I call it. Okay.
And it is uh it's a spreadsheet with a whole bunch of check boxes. I mean, yeah. It's a daily thing. You go through and go, did I eat enough protein? Did I eat enough protein? Did I wake up on time? Did I did I uh hug the dog?
Did I eat did I eat a vegetable? Like it's got a bunch of stuff in there. No, I got rid of a bunch of stuff. It did have a lot of stuff on there, and then I was getting very discouraged because I'm like, this is too much boxes.
Too much, yeah. Yeah, because you you oh set way high expectations for yourself. I absolutely do. So uh one of the things you do track in your spreadsheet is your steps. Do you track your hours of sleep? Yes. Yeah, yeah. I got it. And then you track your steps. Uh-huh. And you have a goal.
Well, 10,000 is the goal, but well, between 75 and 10. If I can get 7500, that's great. If I can get over 7500, then that's like I say 7500 is a B, but anything above that is an A. Okay. So I shoot for an A, but if I get a B, I'm pretty stoked about that too.
Well, and you and I have been uh taking these walks after dinner, which I like. I think I like it too. I think that's healthy. I think that's a good idea. Yes. And um, and so I'm into that. Let me look here really quick at my steps from yesterday. I have uh two jobs.
Both jobs are very sedimentary. Sure. So I sit a lot of my day. And at my other job, everybody around me has a standing desk. Oh and I don't. Uh so I am just forced to sit all day. And I've been trying to. There's a couple of different bathrooms, and so I've been trying to use the bathroom upstairs. Oh, okay. So that I take more steps.
Park a little further away from the door kind of attitude. Yeah. All right. So you said that yesterday you missed your 10,000 steps by 10 steps.
Well, when we went to bed, I looked and I went, oh, I still have like 200 more steps that I have to do. It was 200 when I looked last.
But then you had to do some stuff around the house, and you had to say goodnight. We had to put it in the middle of the house. No, I had already done that.
I had I've already done that. And I'm in bed, like, and I look and I go, oh, I still needed 200 steps. And I went, that's okay. It's that's a really good A. I'm pretty pleased with my 900 and you know, whatever it was. Okay. And then I looked this morning to get the final final score. 9,990.
Now, did you wear your watch to bed? Yeah. Did you walk in your sleep?
I don't know. I don't know if my feet were kicking, and maybe that counts. I don't know. I don't either. Interesting. But that's frustrating, isn't it?
That's 10 steps. I mean, even 200 steps is frustrating. It's not that far.
I know. And I should have just gotten out of bed and done it, but it was cold. Yeah. And we had the heat, the blanket warmer on the bed, and I was like, oh, it's so cozy.
The heated blanket, yeah. Here's what I learned. I just pulled up my steps for the week. I gotta go fishing. That's the answer.
You do a lot of walk in when you're fishing.
The two days I went fishing, I crushed 10,000. The days I didn't go fishing, I didn't hit 10.
Oh, really? Not even on the days that we went for a walk?
No, I got into the like 9,000s. Oh. So I had like Sunday 93, Monday 87, Tuesday, 9,000. Uh yesterday, 8500. So I'm close. I'm around the 9,000 mark pretty consistently. But on uh Saturday and Wednesday when I went fishing, Saturday, 15,000. Wednesday almost uh, well, a little over 11,500. So I gotta go fishing more. That's just it. Uh it's it's for my health. It's for my my fitness.
You know, get yourself a prescription. I got it. The doc says I gotta go fishing.
I gotta go fishing, or else I don't hit my steps. I mean, if there's ever been an excuse, it's my health.
Yeah. You know, 100%, Joshua.
Mental and physical. I really I just need to fish. What I learned just now. Just go fishing. Yeah. I get my steps in. So what are you gonna do to get your extra steps in? I don't know. You want to go fishing? No.
I don't walk when I go fishing. I sit and read a book. Oh, I'll take you hiking. I know you will. And you have, and that's why I don't fish anymore.
So do you want to go fish somewhere else that is easier? No, it's too cold. It's perfect right now. No, it's perfect.
The water is so cold.
You're in waiters. You don't even know.
I don't even want to.
Man. Gotta go fishing. It's for your health. I'll figure out something else to do. Okay. You sure? Yep. Okay. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have your face permanently covered in sticky pumpkin guts? Yuck. No. Or permanently covered in sticky fake cobwebs. No. You have to pick one. No, I don't. You do No, I don't. Yes, you do. No, I don't. What are you picking? I'm gonna pick. What am I gonna pick? Yeah. They're both pretty ick. I know.
I think I'm gonna take the spider webs only because I don't like the smell of the pumpkin guts. Oh, good. And I don't uh it's gross and I don't like it. It's really gross. I don't care for the inside of a pumpkin.
It does the smell. I didn't factor in the smell. See, this is why I have to wait for you, because you bring in legitimate.
And then you're like, yeah, that makes sense. I'm gonna choose the same thing as you every time. Yeah.
Well, you're good at deciding things. So I was gonna say cobwebs initially, just because I feel like that would be less sticky. Sure. But I also I just feel like you're gonna be constantly like, you're yeah,
you're
gonna be able to do that. to constantly have stuff. Like if I if I'm just having permanently not permanently. Permanently, that's what I said.
Well, I'm walking around with spider face. Yuck. Yeah, but it's not gonna stink. And if it gets wet, what happens?
Like it gets a little stickier, doesn't it? I don't know. I don't know if it uh doesn't it doesn't it? I don't know. I'm gonna say I'm I'm going cobwebs. Yeah, because you don't want to smell the pumpkin. Yeah. Yeah. And if I feel like if this the pumpkin guts, like they're gonna be sticky and wet, and then they'll dry, and then that'll be hard and crusty. Uh-huh. Then that ugly. All of it sounds so gross. Like you get a new layer of pumpkin guts every morning. Yuck.
Glad I picked cobwebs. Me too. Would you rather this or that? What's going on?
What do you think the best gas station food is?
Probably uh a gas station breakfast burrito is probably something that I could go to several different gas stations in town and be like, okay. There was one summer. We were out early doing some yard sale. And uh it got to be lunchtime, and we were like, uh, let's just swing into this gas station and grab some snacks. And they had a full-on nacho bar. Yeah. And I was thinking about that. It was so good.
It was so good. It was so good. And it didn't have much.
No, they had the chips and the cheese, but then they did have like a pico. And they had uh fresh made salsas and uh sour cream and olives and jalapenos and like all the stuff you could put on like a gas station nacho. And it was good. It was tasty. Oh, it was chili, that's what it was. It wasn't a meat. Oh, I didn't get the chili. Right. But well, it was one of those machines that has the hot cheese and the hot chili next to it in the one machine. Man, was it good.
I don't know if we were just hungry or or what.
But I've gone back to that same gas station and they didn't have it. Sad. Yeah. Or it was just not the right time of day. I don't know. Maybe that was a a Saturday lunch thing.
When you worked at a different place on your way to that place, there was a gas station, and you would often stop and get their breakfast.
burritos. I would I would leave work and go to the gas station to get burritos. Like it was like uh who's going to get burritos because we're all going. And they were good. They were good.
Yeah. And they had uh like all kinds. You could get chorizo or sausage or bacon or just egg. Like they had all kinds. Uh and they also did like breakfast sandwiches and stuff, but everything was homemade like from scratch in the back. They had a full kitchen going, and then they had like a whole condiment bar where you could open up your burrito and throw in salsas and whatever and wrap it back up. That was a good burrito.
I really like that. Uh most time I would just get the hot sauce packet and call it good, but uh, there are a couple of different places in town I know that have really good gas station fried chicken, like chicken tenders and and chicken strips and stuff. Man, there's some good places. There's some good ones. There's a gas station that has a full-on taco place in it, and that's a good place too. I tell you what. I could go for some gas station food.
What are you doing for lunch? Not that. Oh, okay. Not eating that. Thanks, though.
Okay. Have you ever had gas station pizza? Uh yes. Yeah. When I was in high school, I used to all the time. Used to go to boozers and get myself a pizza.
I don't think I've ever been to a gas station where they have pizza. No? Mm-mm. You gotta do it. Have you ever had a gas station rolly dog? No. Me neither.
I don't do the gas station rolly dogs. I can't do it.
I don't know how long they've been there. I don't know who's come up and poked them. True. True.
I don't know. I I have not that's not something I've wanted to be like, I'm on a road trip, gonna get a roly dog. I don't think so.
I don't typically eat everything I get from a gas station is just prepackaged.
Candy or jerky or chips or whatever. Yeah. Sometimes I'll get like You've gotten like the parfait.
I was just gonna say, sometimes I get a parfait. You ever get the hard-boiled eggs? No. Why? Frost. They're in a little cup. On a road trip gross.
Yeah. Get a rolly dog And the hard boiled eggs and then hit the road, Jack. Gotta hit the road here.
Your road trip companions will love you. Yeah. Sometimes they get a crispy cream if they've got a crispy cream donut.
I said getting a fresh one, though.
Me too, but we don't have it.
Hey, if somebody wants to put forward the capital to bring a crispy cream to East Idaho, that would be great. Dope. That would be great. I'd like a fresh crispy cream. Uh-huh. And everybody else in town would too.
So come on. I I would love to be in a position where I could be the one who's like, yeah, I know what the people want. And I have the money to make all these franchises pop up. I'm not that guy. I'm the guy over here who's like, you know what's a good idea? Krispy Kreme in town. Someone do it. You know what's a good idea? Uh what else don't we have? Duncan. We don't even have a Dunkin' Donut.
No, or an In and Out.
Well, don't even say that, animal style fries.
I kind of want some animal style fries.
You're gonna be in a town with an in and out tomorrow. Tomorrow, yeah.
We might have to get some animal fries. I don't even know who I am anymore. I know. Who Did I marry? People can change, man. People can change.
Wow. She came around to it. And then what's gonna happen is you're gonna go have and you go, actually, it's not that good. Yeah, yeah. I'm back on the uh, I don't care about it.
It's only good in that one particular instance.
Yeah, you're like, never mind. You're just sitting there eating it. You were like, this is the best thing I've ever had in my life.
I still don't like their burgers, but they're their animal fries were pretty solid. Okay. Burger is still meah. Meh? Meh. Yeah. Okay.
