It is 20 hours past midnight with a bit of fall nip in the air tonight in our fair City of Light as the weekend commences, and naturally it is time for our guests & requests Friday showcase this evening. And this particular Friday is totally spaced out as October 8, 2021. This is Danno of course GFN HQ studio 2 making things happen and tonight we welcome our main Brummie Livi Morris aka Runrummer to the gig for a power femme bit of space madness tonight as she releases her newest EP today called Outer Space, and we’ll get more than a taste of that during tonight’s progression of our two hour nuthouse parade. This will be Runrummer’s 2nd appearance on the show after joining us in August last year, and we are always excited to get a chat in with the London-based artist, especially due to the first hour we get to concoct in the process. That being noted, we begin tonight with the group I always think of when it’s about the ladies and progressive people in music, but we’ll also start with a bit of help from Ren absolutely losing his mind in the outer reaches of the galactic realms. THIS is The Drop.
________
Ren & Stimpy – Space Madness
79.5 – Terrorize My Heart
The Drop has commenced Tattooine bar fisticuffs for this Friday night edition. How’s it going wherever you may be in the universe, Drop Gangsters? (Korean) Danno here studio 2, GFN HQ ready to welcome Runrummer as our guest artist for this evening, the producer & singer-songwriter is out with her latest EP today called Outer Space and is ready with a great playlist of female & queer artists in our 2nd hour, so we’re obviously pumped to add our bit to such a show here in the first hour of programming.
We started with a bit of a sample from The Ren & Stimpy Show and an episode called Space Madness. This was the third episode in the famed Nickelodeon animated series by Billy West & John Kricfalusi. For those of you not familiar, there was and has been nothing like Ren & Stimpy as far as balancing a cartoon between absolute childish joy & total abject trippy weirdness on the TV. The only thing that could compare are some weirder episodes of The Simpsons as far as I’ve seen, with Space Madness being one of the very weirdest, no doubt.
Of course, we followed up that monologue from Commander Ren Hoek with 79.5’s 2018 house gem and that was the disco dub version of Terrorize My Heart, which appeared on the Predictions LP. This tune gained recent notoriety when Questlove cited this song as a masterful dance track, and when The Roots audio professor holds something aloft, you know a lot of people are watching.
Kate Matteson & the rest of the 79.5 crew are currently on tour with Durand Jones & The Indications, with the ladies also singing backup on their latest LP Private Space, which dropped July 30.
#9870, @gfnthedrop, podcast…
Now let’s continue in the vein tonight of dancing in space with the ladies, and we’ll begin with Jaako Eino Kalevi then move into some Vilda Ray & end up in the throne room light years away with L’Imperatrice, all of which we shall talk about after we morph out of hyperspace. THIS is The Drop on your Outer Space Friday night.
________________
The Drop returns or at least drops out of the wormhole on this outer space Friday night. What’s up Drop Gangsters (Korean)? Danno readying the craft for our guest artist selector tonight in Runrummer. The London-based producer & singer-songwriter is out with her latest EP called Outer Space and has a very femme-centric playlist to drop in hour 2 for us, so we’re doing our best to make sure the red carpet is laid out just so before she disembarks. To the recap of that last block, we just rocked...
Jaakko Eino Kalevi – Macho (…as you might have guessed, the artist here is from Finland, and this parody of machismo culture was put out 10 years ago as part of the Modern Life LP, and currently records for Weird World Records…appropriately enough.)
Vilda Ray – Boyfriend Girlfriend (…this is one of a pair of cuts here in part 1 that were cut for time in our 2nd hour this evening when Livi Morris joins us to play some cuts. This tune appeared on the artist’s Liquid Sun album from this year although I don’t think that is out just yet, and she now lives in LA but is originally from Guam.)
L’Imperatrice – Voodoo? (…hail hail the empress supreme. This one is off another LP that dropped earlier this year and is another wonderful bit of work from the French outfit called Tako Tsubo. If you haven’t checked it out, they did a great live two part set for French TV last year during the pandemic which is absolute magic.)
Now as we travel towards the outer reaches and gravity continually slows down, we’ll do the same and up next is our 2nd cut for time refugee from hour 2 is up next in Julia Bardo with a cut called Please Don’t Tell Me, and we’ll close things for the first stanza of tonight’s radiological orchestra with Free To Live In Colour by Pixey. THIS is The Drop on your guests & requests Friday with Runrummer.
Julia Bardo – Please Don’t Tell Me
Pixey – Free To Live In Colour

The Drop returns here in quarter 2, just getting to the farther reaches of the galaxy now, so we’re slowing things a bit further. Danno here just kinda floating from studio 2, GFN HQ in downtown Gwangju. Our guest artist selector for this week is noneother than Livi Morris, more well-known in the world at large as Runrummer, and her latest EP Outer Space is out today. So, to celebrate we’re rocking a lotta cuts off that 5 track gem, getting spaced out, and playing some of our favorite female & LGBTQ artists here in hour 1 to warm up for Livi’s playlist in the 2nd. To the info kiosk...
Nai Palm – Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) ( … a cover of what could be considered the title track to Jimi Hendrix’s final album Electric Ladyland, released in October of 1968. The vocalist here is also the main voice behind the famed jazz-funk from way out band Hiatus Kaiyote, who released their first LP in 6 years here in 2021 with Mood Valiant, which we cannot recommend highly enough.)
Alice Phoebe Lou – Galaxies ( …one of our favorites in the space-themed realm of the last few years. The artist here is originally out of South Africa but now calls Berlin home. This tune appeared on her 2019 album, Paper Castles, and she was actually discovered busking on the street.)
Now before we continue just a quick reminder to follow us on social media, we are @gfnthedrop on most major social media platforms. If you’re local aka here in Korea, send us a message #9870 (50/100). What doesn’t cost you anything is catching us after the show, The Drop with Danno or The Drop on GFN (or) is available on most major podcast platforms, and you can find us with a simple google search & subscribe free & easy.
Moving ahead, we have a few more cuts in the next block from Joviale, Miso Extra & Peggy Gou with OHHYUK to continue gravity suspension, and we’ll get all the readings after we’re done eating chips without hands while floating around. THIS is The Drop on your Friday night sesh with Runrummer.
____________
The Drop continues and we are talking while floating in the ether this evening as we warm up for London-based artist Runrummer joining us on the gig for all of part 3 & 4 tonight. Her new EP Outer Space is out & about as of today, and we’ll get our first taste in just a sec to end the first half. This is Danno of course, studio 2, GFN HQ, and let’s get to the rundown on the last three that were just thrown down.
Joviale – Glass Peach (…another wonderful EP out this year from a fellow London-based artist is Hurricane Belle, on which this tune appeared. Unquestionably the standout on a very good piece of work, do check in full if you have not done so yet.)
Miso Extra – Adventures of Tricky Duke (…guest artist selector Runrummer is rocking the only other tune by this artist tonight, and so we figured we would rock the entire discography in the process tonight. For those that are not familiar, she is a British-born singer-songwriter of Japanese & British descent who says she was raised by anime & Bend It Like Beckham whose music is designed as umami for the ears.)
Peggy Gou feat OHHYUK – Nabi (…one of the more interesting Korean collaborations from this year featuring the still white hot Peggy Gou, who was born in Seoul but educated in London & now calls Berlin home. Here Peggy teams up with Oh Hyuk, the lead singer to indie band HYUKOH, and for those who don’t know this tune means butterfly.)
Alright, so we’re approaching the end of the hour and it’s time to get our first taste of a pair of tunes from Runrummer’s Outer Space EP, which drops today. We’ll start with Guten Abend or Good Evening, and then we’ll skate to part 3 following Gameover. THIS is The Drop with Runrummer landing on deck shortly, and we now at halftime in spacetime.
