More than half of the country’s senior council figures have warned that their council is likely to go bankrupt within the next parliament unless funding changes.
This comes from a new report from the Local Government Information Unit, which surveyed local authority decision-makers and found that 9% of the respondents said they are likely to declare effective bankruptcy within the next financial year.
According to the Local Government Information Unit, there are a number of solutions to the ongoing crisis that would not increase pressure on the taxpayer.

Today sees Transport Scotland hosting a summit that will see key road safety partners coming together to discuss how to tackle the rise in road casualties and injuries.
Representatives from across the Scottish public sector, including Police Scotland, Road Safety Scotland, and local authorities, are coming together to identify new ways that Scotland can become best nation for road safety by 2030.
Road safety investment from the Scottish Government across the 2022/2023 financial year amounted to £31 million.
