We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.
I am so excited.
We have one of my favorite people in
the entire world on today.
And you get to meet her next.
From the gym to the screen, yeah,
we cover it all.
Midday motivation every time you press
call.
Lunch with the Clydesdale.
Cowboy bring the heat.
CrossFit movies, music on repeat.
Half hour hustle, yeah,
we building that brand.
Grab a plate, tune in now,
you part of the fam.
It's lunchtime.
What is going on, everybody?
Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale,
Cowboy and Kate.
We have Kate Curry with us today.
We are so excited to have her.
Hey, guys.
Games athlete, Kate Curry.
Put some respect on that woman's name.
Two-time games athlete.
That's right.
Look, there we go.
Two-time, two-time.
Well, I'm so excited to have you on.
I've decided we're going to do one
interview a week and I'm just going to
have the people on that I like to
talk to and I like to hang out
with.
And I thought,
who better the week before the CrossFit
Games than two-time CrossFit Games
athlete, Kate Curry.
Thanks, Scott.
I'm stoked to be here.
And I mentioned that hopefully internet
issues aren't terrible.
I can hear you guys beautifully,
but if there's a delay or if my...
camera gets a little funky.
I'm sorry about that,
but really excited to talk to you.
I try to join this as much as
I can from work to hang with the
lunchtime crew,
so it's cool to be on it today.
Yeah,
I think it's a cool thing when people
try to get out of work to listen
to my show.
Yeah, no kidding.
When do you actually eat lunch?
If everybody's doing this at lunchtime,
when is everybody eating?
So it all depends on if I have
meetings right after this.
So usually I have like everything prepped
to go like in the microwave as soon
as I'm done and I'll eat at my
desk as I'm working.
And I have to delay it however long
the meetings go.
I'll do a snack right before the show.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I usually do this,
go make my lunch and then eat while
I'm working.
Yeah,
I'm a later lunch eater just because I
have the two breakfasts, right?
Like the pre-training breakfast and then
the post-training breakfast.
So that tides me over until a little
bit later in the afternoon.
So I'm actually doing okay right now.
I think I'll make it through without
getting too hungry.
So you're like the third person that
talked about two breakfasts this week that
I've talked to.
And so is it two full breakfasts or
is it like a protein shake breakfast and
then like a real breakfast?
How do you break that down?
I mean,
the first one's definitely a little
lighter,
but it's still pretty significant.
I'll have like overnight oats with protein
and Greek yogurt and berries and a cup
of coffee before I go to the gym.
I eat that at like five thirty in
the morning and then we'll have some carb
sources while I'm training.
And when I get home later,
I have like the bigger breakfast.
That's like the egg whites,
the turkey sausage,
the bagel that there's a lot more volume
in that lately.
So
they're both pretty significant but the
second one is the bigger of the two
how do you feel about pocket jerky what's
pocket you just keep it in your pocket
what is pocket jerky uh there are times
when i'm in a hurry and i just
grab it and i put it in my
pocket and i'll nibble on it when i
can like during a meeting or during the
show or whatever
Sometimes it's,
it's hoodie jerky where I'll just put it
in my pouch.
Oh, I get in your hoodie.
Got it.
It's like emergency, emergency jerky.
You never know when you might need it.
Good protein source.
I support that.
You know, get it when you can.
It's there in a pinch.
Like, I feel like if I am not,
if I'm traveling and I don't have some
sort of snack with me,
there's a little bit of like anxiety.
So if you can keep that at bay
with a little bit of pocket jerky,
like more power to you.
Uh, this, I do not do pocket tots.
Not, I mean,
you have some of your tots.
Somebody needs to patent that.
That's not a bad idea.
I would be so down with pocket tots.
I would want to represent be in with
some pocket tots.
I love tater tots.
Uh,
glad needs to come out with like a
pocket liner.
You know,
they came out with a crock pot liner
and all that little pocket liner.
So that way you don't get any fuzz
on it.
Like Jay Birch is talking about.
Dude,
lint makes you a man if you eat
it.
Like,
just put a little hair on your chest,
it'll be fine.
Yeah, growing up, you know,
you'd always ask your mom for the candy
out of her purse,
and she'd have to blow it off,
you know,
because anything that got on the candy
from the... Stuff off of it?
Yeah.
There you go, boy.
And now Kate gets to firsthand experience
off the rails show.
It's fun.
I'm all for it.
You're welcome.
I love a tangent.
So you actually have a day job because
Masters athletes don't have the luxury of
like full sponsorships and doing all that.
What do you do during the day?
Oh, no.
No.
Apparently not pay her internet bill was
pretty tops on the list of what she
does during the day.
I will give her an opportunity to get
back in, but that was,
that's the most abrupt leave I've ever
seen.
Maybe she didn't want to talk about her
day job.
Maybe it's top secret.
So Mark Phillips just said,
he got too personal.
You asked too many questions.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe she's a spy.
it's entirely possible.
And she can't talk about it.
The government actually just shut it down
is what it is.
Holy smokes.
That was abrupt.
That was abrupt.
Yeah.
Well, while she's doing that,
I do have a couple of quick updates.
One is I just got noticed that my
shirts are delayed.
They are in a cargo ship.
So they actually are in a cargo ship.
Somewhere.
So there is a,
there is a fairly good possibility.
I'm not going to have them for the
games.
And she's back.
Hey, there she is.
Sorry.
No, don't apologize.
It's fine, dude.
It just adds comedy to the day.
No, it's so annoying.
And I was telling you guys,
like I work from home to try to
make this easier today.
And then my internet,
the internet gods are not in my favor.
It's all right.
It was perfect timing because God's like,
so what do you do?
And then you just went black.
what do you do and that's the universe
saying like nobody actually cares what i
do outside of crossfit i think right well
we made up the story that you're a
spy and the government shut you down yeah
correct
I've been compromised,
so I got to go again.
Yeah, no, I'm an interior designer,
so I work in architecture.
It's a global firm.
We have offices all over the world,
but I work in our DC studio.
uh recently have pivoted to focus on
sports and it's our sports recreation and
entertainment practice so big focus on
collegiate athletics right now which is
really rad as a former college athlete
getting to design spaces for student
athletes and coaches and fans and just
like thinking about that experience has
been really really special after doing
this for a long time to start focusing
specifically in that world again and like
really being able to combine like my
passions for CrossFit and wellness and
nutrition and recovery with what I'm doing
professionally.
It's like really special.
And it's interesting,
the SAP Center where the elites will be
competing next week is a project of my
firm's that we're actively working on
right now with the San Jose Sharks.
So I told all the guys that are
working on the project that I'll make sure
to go around and take credit for
everything next week when folks are
Infiltrating SAP.
Look at what I did.
Look at what I did.
I had nothing to do with the project.
But I'd be like, oh, you like that?
Exactly.
It doesn't matter.
Are you going to tell them that CrossFit
HQ isn't allowing you in the building,
though?
You have to go to an adjacent building
down the street.
Well,
I'll get to go at least on Friday
to watch the elites when they compete
there.
So I'll get in when I'm done.
I guess they opened it up for the
whole weekend now for Masters athletes.
That's a rumor on the street.
That is a rumor on the street.
Yes.
And I know you mentioned we got that
information.
After the fact.
So we had reserved our travel and our
Airbnbs and so forth.
So we'll be able to go on Friday,
but then not stick around for the rest
of the weekend, unfortunately.
We're heading south to San Luis Obispo for
a couple days afterward.
Oh, nice.
That's really nice.
I tried to get my wife to come
with me.
I hope it's nice.
It looks cute.
To do some sightseeing and stuff after,
but it just didn't work out.
I like that.
It seems nice.
San Luis Obispo.
That's where Grunler's at.
Oh, that's where Bill lives.
At least she froze like in a like
it's a pretty pose.
Yeah.
It's a nice picture.
It's a nice picture.
Anyway, yeah.
San Luis Obispo.
That's where Bill Grunler's at.
But he's probably going to be at the
games all weekend.
He probably won't actually be at his
place.
So I think now we have the delay.
Can you guys hear me again or no?
Hey, there we go.
We can.
Okay.
I can hear you guys again.
I'm sorry, y'all.
It's fine, Kate.
It's absolutely fine.
So you say you played college sports.
What was your athletic background?
Oh, no.
This is fantastic.
When you come back.
So John George,
she is in the forty to forty four
year old division.
Yes, she is.
This is year three.
She will be in the third tier of
that.
Let me.
Try this again.
I'm trying again,
so we'll see if that's any better.
Oh.
It's fine, dude.
Yeah.
You were saying I'm forty forty two.
So, yeah,
this is my third year in the forty
to forty four division.
Do you you play college sports?
What what kind of background do you have?
I was a gymnast,
so I did Division one gymnastics many
moons ago,
but that
obviously translate,
that helps with CrossFit.
But after college,
so when you're sort of like forced in
retirement at twenty-two,
I ran marathons for about eight years.
So I undid any semblance of like fast
twitch muscles or like explosive power
that I'd had from gymnastics that would
have been really beneficial for CrossFit.
Like I completely got rid of all of
that by running twelve marathons before I
eventually
joined the fun uh i started crossfit like
right before i turned thirty four so i
don't know what that math is like eight
years ago does that math math correctly so
so it's twenty eighteen yeah like at the
very end of twenty seventeen the twenty
eighteen open was my first like foray so
we are we are so similar as far
as that's concerned because i was right
after the open in twenty eighteen oh cool
Only you've been to the games and not
yet.
Not yet.
Keyword on yet.
You dove in like headfirst because you
went age group.
They've called it different things,
but basically age group semifinals.
Like a year after you started,
you've done it every year since.
Yeah, so it was pretty eye opening.
I had that one year in the third,
whatever,
the eighteen to thirty four division and
seeing how well I did in the open
after having started it a couple of months
prior, like I was like, oh,
I could maybe be competitive in this when
I age up to master.
So you have been doing it for a
while and I always did quite well,
but I was not with really and I
think my best finish
Well, I guess in twenty twenty three,
it was Jamie and I were both like
the old ladies in the thirty five to
thirty nine division.
And we were top thirty that year because
it was a really small field for semis,
but only ten made it to the games.
So I was kind of there,
but not quite within reach for that entire
thirty five to thirty nine.
age group and then aged up at forty,
made it by the skin of my teeth,
which was great.
And then last year was on the outside
looking in.
So excited to go back.
Don't go there quite yet.
Oh, sorry.
I'm too fast.
Slow down.
Pump the brakes.
No, no, no, no.
I want to show something first.
So I was diving through my old
documentary.
Oh, man.
Because my interview with you is one of
my favorite things that happened during
that documentary.
And I just have to say,
that documentary is probably the thing I'm
most proud of that I've ever done in
my life.
Yeah, it was really special.
And re-watching it now,
it came off better than I even remember
it coming off.
And I'm not trying to brag,
but damn it, I'm proud of that.
And it's got me fired up now.
I want to talk to as many Masters
athletes as I can at the Games this
year.
Awesome.
When you guys are done, find me.
I want to sit down and have a
chat.
One million percent.
So I'm going to share this real quick
and show the interview I'm talking about.
So this is Kate right after she finished
her final event at the twenty twenty four
CrossFit Games.
You have tears of joy because you finished
your first games.
Yeah.
I finished my... I PR'd my first spot.
And I, like,
stood around and kind of watched everybody
finish.
And just, like,
thanking all the volunteers and stuff.
I just got so emotional.
It's, like,
it's such a big deal to be here.
And even if, like, you're not winning...
I'm so happy.
I'm so sad it's over.
It was a good way to end it,
though.
I learned that I'm fit enough to get
here,
but I've got some work to compete to
hang with the big girls.
We put in a lot of work on
top entering the past two years,
and that's what enabled me to get here.
Last year, I couldn't even...
clear the barbells that were required to
hit like that was no issue um so
now it's a cool problem to have like
we just got to go faster and like
and now my internet's gonna fuss with me
at least i'm not the only one but
while we're um while we're catching up on
that you talk about how like happy you
were to be there and how sad you
were that it was over yeah
And then you go on from this point
and hopefully it'll catch up and we can
play it.
But how you were ready to prepare for
the next season.
And so I'm going to try to play
this one more time.
Let's see what we got.
And no.
Should I make that same face?
I was going to ask you if you
could.
Get a little bit more uncomfortable.
I'm pretty like...
Okay, it's just gonna buffer now.
So I'll stop sharing.
So you go on to say that you're
excited and you wanted to get back to
games training as quickly as possible.
I really did, yeah.
So the next year,
you actually missed the games by one spot.
It was it was it was eleven because
they had reduced the field.
Yeah.
So it was that next year they reduced
from forty to thirty.
And I didn't have a good online semifinal
for a couple of reasons.
Like no excuses.
The programming was not great for me and
some weaknesses were exposed.
There were two heavy barbell cycling
workouts that just weren't good for me.
And then I also had the flu really
bad.
So yeah.
doing that weekend super sick sucked.
And it was like as I was starting
to feel better from my sickness toward the
end of the weekend is when my energy
was tanking just from being fatigued from
competing all weekend.
So I was very much on the outside
looking in.
And I was really bummed.
and like took a little time to be
sad,
but then sort of leaned into off season
competition opportunities that, you know,
I wouldn't have signed up for had I
been training for the games all summer.
So tried to make the most of it.
But it was,
it was a big disappointment last year for
sure.
Cause I was really itching to get back
there.
At the end of this interview,
you actually say,
I will be back next year.
So when you have those expectations,
right,
and you throw it out there publicly that
I'm coming back,
and then you hit that wall where you
just miss it, right?
Yeah.
How did you deal with the disappointment?
You know, I'm like that.
That are frozen.
You're breaking up a little bit.
So it's like every second.
Every third word.
Yeah.
So let's try.
Can you answer about the disappointment
one more time?
I think we have you back.
Yeah.
Can you hear me, you think?
Yep.
Yeah, we got you.
Okay.
I was sad,
but when you miss out on a goal...
when you've given it everything you could,
you can't be too upset.
Like I literally did everything that I
could and it wasn't enough.
And I had to find peace with that
pretty quickly.
And you learn, I mean,
this is so cliche,
but you do learn so much more from
your failures than you do your successes.
So there was just so much to be
gleaned about what to work on and what
to improve on.
And like, I,
love the opportunity for growth like it
just i don't know it kind of set
us up for a cool redemption arc and
like pivoting training a little bit and
focusing on new things to improve and it
lit a fire under my butt quite frankly
that
I have tried to keep that feeling of
not making it with me as fuel to
get back there.
So it was like it was definitely a
bummer.
But this isn't the only thing we have
going on.
Right.
We have our careers.
We have families like there's so many
other things.
And like this was one piece that didn't
work out perfectly.
And like, that's OK.
I still have.
my family, I have my career,
I have my health.
Like I have so much to be grateful
for.
And then I had a new plan of
attack on what to focus on to try
to improve things the following season.
And you must have,
because when you're now in the third tier
of your age group, right.
And it traditionally people get worse as
they age through that five years.
Right.
Yeah.
You got better.
You finished tenth in semifinals this
year.
Your best finish ever in a semifinal.
What do you attribute that to?
I think there are a number of things.
I think the programming was better for me.
It doesn't hurt that six badass ladies had
already punched their tickets and weren't
competing online.
I can't ignore that.
Um,
but even if we put you in sixteenth
place, that's your best finish ever.
That's true.
I think of it to competing a little
bit because I see with Corey the weekend
before and wasn't even sure whether I was
going to do online.
So, you know,
I didn't make any arrangements.
I didn't have any more PTO to travel
down to Georgia.
Like we just did it at home after
work in between people's work schedules.
Like,
it was a little bit less of a
production,
which I think just allowed me to put
it out there without extra pressure.
So I think that helped a lot.
And also I'm just fitter.
Like we started doing more sports specific
CrossFit style training much earlier in
the season than in past years.
Historically,
we would do like a big strength emphasis
for the majority of the season and then
just try to get
fit enough like before quarters or semis
and we started that much earlier this year
and i think that helped a lot especially
like qualifying through an online stage
like you know having the burpee fitness
the shuttle run fitness like the high
heart rate uh fitness in a better spot
than it had been previously um larry young
says sometimes i think you just have to
say it to make it happen and sometimes
it just doesn't yeah it was scary
For a long time,
I wouldn't say out loud,
except to my husband, maybe,
was the only person who knew I want
to make it to the CrossFit Games.
I was reluctant to put that into the
universe.
Because once it's out there, people know.
And there's expectations or
accountability, right?
And there's the possibility to fail and to
not reach that goal.
That's what happened last year.
I didn't make it and it's okay.
Like, it's all okay.
So I think making it known really doubling
down putting into the universe and seeing
what happens is really important.
And, and I got,
I got a firsthand account look of your
confidence growing at the twenty four
games from the beginning of that weekend
to the end of the weekend.
I think I interviewed you when you were
coming in for check-in, I think day one,
and then when you were finished.
I was probably so scared and sweating and
overwhelmed when we first talked.
There was a lot of deer in the
headlights moments at that first games.
And it was really cool to see your
confidence grow.
Thanks.
So now you're coming in in a higher
seed.
What are your expectations of this year's
games?
I should have prepared for that question.
Um, it's not a placement.
I think it's a feeling and I don't
want to do the cop-out answer of like,
I want to come off the floor knowing
I gave it my best.
Um,
i stand i know i know i you
know realistically you guys like i'm not
in the hunt for a podium finish like
that's not lost on me but well not
with that attitude hold on give me a
second
I might not win at the end of
the weekend,
but I can beat the girls that will
win in certain events.
Like, I've done it.
I did it at Magic City.
I did it online.
Like,
there are opportunities to shake things up
and, like, show out.
And I...
I feel more like I belong now than
ever before.
And I'm ready to compete that way.
So like the scared deer in the headlights
that you saw in twenty twenty four,
like she's not going to be there this
year.
Like I'm going to show up, be confident.
And try to make some moves.
Dude, hell yes.
Hell yeah.
I love that.
Absolutely love that.
So they've announced some of the workouts.
They've promised to announce the number of
workouts,
yet we still don't know what that is.
I was saying before we went on there,
they need to stop making promises.
Just stop.
Just say you'll get it when you get
it.
Like if they lowered our expectations and
then they could exceed them occasionally
versus like leaving us here and then
letting us down a lot.
So it's a sales technique under,
under promise and over deliver all you
have to do.
And they flip that in the wrong direction.
They have.
Yeah.
Took that in was like,
we will over promise it under deliver
consistently year over year and see how
that works out.
And it hasn't,
it hasn't worked out real well at all.
Oh, Vicky says Kate, the disruptor.
Hell yeah.
I'm into that.
Maybe I'll change my little tag.
Yeah.
John George says,
talk shit in the corrals and be the
spoiler.
That's like the opposite of who I am
at a competition.
My coach gives me crap because I'm always
just like making best friends.
And like, he's like,
if you focused on competing against these
women,
as much as you focused on loving on
them and like becoming besties,
like you could maybe do something.
But I'm like,
I just love everybody here is so fun.
And I like getting to know them.
Getting to know you and hearing him say
talk shit in the crowds,
like you would be the last person I
would expect to talk shit to anybody.
I'm back there like complimenting people's
outfits or like telling them how strong
they are.
I'm like hype woman.
You're offering your snacks.
My mangoes.
If you know who Kate is and you
walk by her in the athlete area,
you will get a high five or a
hug every single time.
It doesn't matter what's going on.
I can tell you that from experience.
Whether you want it or not.
Whether you want it or not.
Speaking of your mango strips,
they were in your hand nonstop at the
twenty four games.
Do we have a new snack of choice?
Yeah,
I'm real into the applesauce packets,
but there's a mango applesauce, Scott,
that's like my go-to right now.
So it's sort of the best of both
worlds.
Like I can eat it real quickly,
but it has like that delicious mango
flavor that I love so much.
So here we go off the rails.
I love mango everything,
but I can't stand extracting real mango
from the seed.
Oh, God, no.
That's a top ten list of my least
favorite things to do.
I will pay to get the pre-chopped one
in the little plastic container if I want
fresh mango because that's a lot of work.
I'll pay for the convenience, please.
It's like God is like,
this is so good that we have to
protect it by attaching it to this seed
so hard that people just give up and
leave it alone.
This impermeable skin.
Yeah.
Basically a childproof cap.
True.
It's true.
I used to work with a guy that
would cut it open, like cut off...
kind of like straight down without hitting
the seed.
And then he would make X's in the
skin.
And then he popped it up like this.
And he would just eat it like a
cup of corn.
It's actually a really good idea.
Not a bad.
With practice, we too can be.
efficient mango cutters if you stay
focused and stay in it you too can
accomplish that dream yeah yeah one day I
will be able to eat a mango like
it's a corn cob
Add it to the list of twenty twenty
six goals.
Hundred percent.
Yeah.
CrossFit Games.
Next up.
Yeah.
Before the turn of the year.
Meg went to the extreme and bought that
mango thing.
I'm assuming like a mango chopper or a
mango opener.
And it still doesn't work.
Damn it, Meg.
But that comes from someone who can't peel
an orange.
Yeah, but I can peel an orange barehanded.
The only thing I can do with a
mango barehanded is throw it across the
room.
You're not doing anything else with it
besides that.
John George, just like a coconut.
Damn it, so annoying, both of them.
Can't say I've ever tried to open a
coconut, John George.
I have never cut one personally.
I think I've had a drink out of
one at a resort,
but that's about as close as I've gotten
to fresh coconut.
No,
one of those is way more dangerous than
the other one.
Again,
if we're throwing it across the room,
I feel like you could probably mug
somebody with a coconut.
Not that we condone that type of behavior
here,
but you could knock somebody out with a
coconut pretty easily.
One hundred percent.
The mango would squish.
There's an island up in Lake Erie where
there is a resort and it has like
swings hanging from the ceiling that are
the bar stools.
And in it,
they serve a coconut drink where they tap
a hole in it somehow and then pour
the liquor right into the coconut.
Like one dose.
And then a straw and you go.
Every time I've been there,
they've been out of them.
It's like my life's dream to one time
get one of those and now I've quit
drinking.
So what's a man to do?
Get you a coconut,
drill a hole in it,
just drink the milk out of it.
A mocktail.
Can you squirt some Kool-Aid in there?
Get you a mocktail, yeah.
Ask them for a non-alcoholic version of it
next time if they have the coconuts.
Could you puree some mango and put down
in there?
Get you a mango Foxtrot.
Yeah.
Get you a mango Foxtrot C-IV and pour
it into your hole.
Shake it up.
Well, probably not.
It's carbonated,
so maybe not shake it up quite so
much, but...
Just saying,
I want to understand mango and coconut
goes pretty well together.
Yeah.
Tropical smoothie all inside of a coconut
and two hundred milligrams of caffeine.
Let's go.
Let's making that happen.
Can I get the name of that bar
again?
It won't do you any good, Papa Frank,
because they are clean out of coconut
every time Scott goes.
It's probably because I go at stupid
times, honestly.
I hate people.
I hate people,
so it's probably when they have a low
inventory of coconut.
What is the name of that?
Everybody just left,
and they took all the coconuts with them.
Sorry, sir.
Did you say a swanky resort in the
Poconos with swings?
Not in the Poconos, dude.
No, no, John George.
But when you said swings hanging from the
ceiling,
that was the first thing I thought of
as well.
So moving right along.
This is Put-in-Bay.
Put-in-Bay is the name of the island in
Lake Erie.
Put-in-Bay?
It's Put-in-Bay.
Put-in-Bay.
I thought you said put like pudding.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Put-in-Bay.
Oh, Put-in-Bay.
It's right next to Custard Creek.
That's for resistance swimming.
You swim in Put-in-Bay.
Put-in-Bay.
Cool.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
No, thank you.
I don't want to go to Put-In-Bay.
When I was growing up in Florida,
there was a coconut ice cream that was
served in a shell that you could buy
at Publix.
Publix has some cool stuff, dude.
I love shopping at Publix.
Give me or give them all my money
because it's an expensive grocery store.
It is an expensive place.
They got the goods.
The one in Birmingham when we were there
for Magic City, Corey,
I went like three times a day.
It was a little extreme.
We didn't go three times a day,
but we went often.
To the point where I ran into Joey
Perez down there at the store.
And I ran into somebody else that I
knew.
And it's like, okay,
there's a lot of us here, apparently,
because everybody's going to Publix.
Yeah, we don't have them here.
No, we don't either.
It took me two trips before I realized
that there was parking around the outside
of the building.
I didn't have to stop and pay.
Yeah,
I had to pay the freaking and take
the elevator down into the store,
which is also a trip.
Weird fact,
Publix is the largest employer in Florida.
Oh, really?
yeah yes and they're uh i want to
say they're they're like the people that
work for them actually own stock in the
company just from working there like they
have real good retirement benefits and
stuff like that i read about them not
that long ago i knew i liked public
see this is only adding fuel to that
fire and the pub subs don't even get
me started on a pub sub yeah that's
what judy reed says oh yeah
When I worked in Florida,
we did occupational injury and illness
data.
I was a statistician, and we would survey,
and they were the largest employer in
Florida.
Where in Florida were you?
Tallahassee.
Okay.
Who was number two?
Sorry, I cut you off.
Oh, no.
Number two, Disney.
Oh.
Shocking.
So little facts that you didn't really
care about or know.
There you go.
They should just change Orlando to like to
just call it Disneyland and just call all
of Orlando Disneyland.
Cause the vast majority, right.
It's Disney world.
Excuse me, Disney world.
Disneyland is that thing in California is
that yeah.
Monstrosity in California, but yeah,
they should just call it or just call
it Disney in general.
You fly into the Disney airport,
they had the Disney resort,
get your Disney rental car.
Yeah, there you go.
Kate's like,
what the hell is going on here?
Corey has lost his mind again.
No,
I was trying to think of something clever
to say, and I couldn't think of anything.
she's used to it she's in that group
chat that group text that we're in with
other masters athletes half of whom i do
not know um yeah so it gets active
he's always popping off in that so yeah
i'm used to it i mean the people
say dumb and i can't help myself so
it's warranted yeah uh speaking of the
store don't waste your time at the store
buying yucky melatonin
Try Thirdsy for a more natural sleep and

Just got to be part of our ad
read, Kate.
Congratulations.
I was very professional.
I'm impressed.
We've had lots of practice.
I know.
I try to be the king of the
segue, and then the chat took over,
and they got better at it than me,
so I just let them do this.
Yeah.
They're doing the heavy lifting.
Now you just have to read.
They really are.
They really, really are.
So you're coming into the games.
We know a little bit of information.
Are you... How...
we get negative about the whole thing,
right?
The,
the whole like legends do this and the
programming is that,
and they didn't release this,
but you get to go to your second
CrossFit games.
Is it hard to like push out the
negativity and think about what you get to
do?
Or is it just piece of cake for
you?
I'm glad you asked this because it was
something that I wanted to make sure I
talked about while I had this platform
with you guys today.
Like I think masters athletes were real
loud and were real complaining.
Like I get that we are a majority
when it comes to like participation in the
open and funding the season.
And therefore we feel,
and I'm speaking collectively,
like maybe it's not my place to do
that, but there's a sense of like,
not entitlement per se,
but like we're owed something from
CrossFit and like the reality of it is
like what other sports exist that have
platforms for
age group athletes, for adaptive athletes,
for people outside of like the elite realm
to compete at this level.
Like we are not guaranteed any of this
and it could all go away like in
an instant, right?
So when it comes to things like
complaining about the programming not
being perfect or the communications or
like if...
when the equipment or apparel is handed
out and folks are upset that we don't
get enough for the weekend.
I try not to think about any of
that because I'm just so grateful to have
any of it, honestly.
So for me, it's not hard.
Would I hope that the test is really
well balanced?
Of course.
Do I hope that we have clear
communication?
Obviously,
but I'm not going to shit on CrossFit
or on legends.
Like if it's not perfect,
because at least we have something and
that's more than anybody is owed.
Like nobody is paying us to be there.
Like we're not fulfilling any obligations.
Like we are voluntarily spending our money
to go and compete in something that we
love.
How fortunate are we to be able to
do that?
I just think it's the coolest thing,
and I'll take it in whatever capacity I
can get it.
And especially having missed out last year
and now having the chance to go back,
I'm like,
doubly excited and like way less concerned
about the things that aren't perfect.
So I don't know if that actually answers
your question.
I feel like I went around a little
bit,
but I tried to focus on the fact
that it exists in any capacity and lean
into how special that is.
I'm,
I'm honestly to the point where I just
want a thin thread that makes it relate
to the CrossFit games.
And I think we've lost that.
That's my biggest complaint.
Yeah.
I want just a small thread of like
that you guys do a same workout or
a handful of workouts that the elites do.
I don't even care if it's in the
same location.
Yeah.
I'm with you on that.
And I think it's tough because when they
initially announced the anniversary and
bringing us all back together,
I think we had a picture in our
minds that's not exactly how it's playing
out.
Right.
Like, yes, we're a couple of days before.
Yes, we're a mile down the street.
But like generally,
I still think it's cool that we are
brought together.
in the same vicinity the same time frame
to kind of feed off of the energy
um you know i was not a part
i visited i went as a spectator when
the age group was in like the cow
barn adjacent to the main event in madison
and like that was cool to be like
more connected and there was some
programming overlap when both the age
groups and the elites would use north park
for example so i think
I think there's opportunities that are
being missed by not having some of those
connective thread, Scott,
that you're saying.
I think it'd be really cool to compare
and to understand how good the elites are,
but how amazing the age group can still
hang with some of those same workouts.
Comparing it to Crash Crucible that I did
a couple of years ago,
JR makes all of the Masters athletes do
the exact same programming as the elites.
And it's hard and we're not doing as
well,
but it's really damn impressive when you
kind of see that across everybody.
So I'm I'm with you.
I think that would be cooler and
preferable, but I'm OK.
Like,
I think it is cool that we're somewhat
adjacent this year as opposed to being,
you know,
like Labor Day weekend and a totally other
location there's pros and cons for both
but uh Vicky says yes Kate people had
an expectation that was never stated
that's not on CrossFit or Legends I
disagree slightly expectations have been
set for years and the problem is it
it's getting less and less and less each
year without explanation
And I think if you are running an
organization,
the last thing you want to do is
catch your people off guard, right?
People – if there are cuts coming and
you're going to have to make it smaller
or less apparel,
if you say that up front,
people are much –
take it much better than when they're
caught off guard by it later down the
road.
That's all.
Especially people that are traveling like
internationally to kind of know what
they're getting into or across the
country.
Like I agree with that.
So,
and you say expectations by whom Vicki,
I'm saying that for years,
the masters athletes got huge kits of
stuff.
And I see everybody in here talking about
flow elite and,
And I know you're here to complain about
it,
but I am of the belief that if
you expect to get everything for free,
you're going to be sorely disappointed.
We did a whole show about that.
Right.
You have to pay to go see a
movie.
You have to pay for your streaming
service.
You have to pay to watch sports now,
pretty much.
It is not out of the realm that
a handful of events at the CrossFit Games
are on a streaming service.
Also,
and it's the only thing I'm going to
say about it,
and I could be completely off base here,
but I think I heard Savant say this
morning that it was going to be on
Floyd Leeds' free channel.
Interesting.
so so there if that's if that's if
i did hear that correctly then you then
the people that i didn't have absolutely
nothing to about which is normally the
case and i'm one of the people that
and i'll say it right now i usually
am just to be because i'm old and
that's what we do so moving right along
and and i think shanna says shanna who
former crossfit games athlete and maybe
again this year yep uh there was
definitely a precedent set in the early
years for masters that is much different
And so for people that have been around
for a long time and have been to
multiple games,
they experienced what it was.
And it's not that anymore without
explanation.
So, I mean, I've,
I see both sides to all of this
stuff and I've just got to imagine from
like a sustainability standpoint, it just,
was really cool and because it's not just
masters where the experience has changed
like sure the elites might still be
getting a ton of stuff but the sponsors
are totally different their venues have
changed consistently as well like there's
been an evolution and you've got to
imagine a lot of that is financially
driven and just trying to find some
efficiencies and streamlining things and
like it sucks but i get why the
groups that aren't pulling in
big marketing money or you know the
spectators are gonna be on one side of
that and it's unfortunate but like
whatever needs to happen to keep this
going and like continue to be an option
and a goal for us to strive for
like i'm okay with tempering those
expectations just a little bit
I think that a lot could be solved
with two quick things.
And that is one,
make the programming similar to the games.
Allow the Masters athletes to play the
same game for at least a part of
the games.
And two, use another funding stream.
And if people want a full games kit,
they can buy it.
Hmm.
That way you can maybe make some more
money.
It's another revenue stream for you
legends or you CrossFit.
And people still get the whole kit that
they want to be able to wear in
their gym year round to show that they
were a games athlete.
I got news for you.
When I make the games,
I'll be wearing my kit year round,
regardless of what else happens.
It could be one shirt and one pair
of shorts.
Well,
I'll be showering in it and washing it
while I'm wearing it.
Can you see behind my shoulder?
Like I have that shadow box with some
of my kit from twenty twenty four.
I'm with you, Corey.
Absolutely.
Yep.
Let me ask you this.
Let me ask you this.
You're an interior designer.
Mm hmm.
Do you have two people,
one on each shelf,
your interior designer going,
that does not look good in this room?
Are you saying that doesn't look good,
Scott?
What the heck?
That was better I could tell.
Touche, touche, touche.
Okay.
yeah um yeah there's a balance there's a
give and take there for sure but that's
something i'm really freaking proud of
it's in the little vestibule like it's
outside of the bathroom it's not in a
really prominent space in our house i see
i'm married to an interior designer and so
i know what is not allowed on the
walls in my house yeah yeah right but
she's not i have the same so
conversation with my husband about like
his concert posters and things we get a
little strategic about where we can like
the main cave things um uh daniel arnson
uh thank you for the donation i choose
to blindly only see one side of it
and decide that only benefits me at least
you're willing to admit it
Oh, he's all up in it.
It's absolutely fine.
The self-awareness is clutch.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He knows.
He came in here bitching and was like,
I'm here to bitch.
All right, here we go.
Shana says,
Corey wearing the same outfit daily.
Wonder how long that would last.
Mark Phillips then chimes in.
I have some shirts hanging on for dear
life.
Don't underestimate men and their clothes.
I got two pairs of socks right now
that probably need to be thrown away that
I refuse to throw away.
I got like,
Brandon made some EMOM company socks for
the first or the second Southland camp I
went to, one out of the two.
And I've been wearing them for years.
That was in like three years ago.
And one of them's got a hole in
the bottom of it, probably about this big.
And I refuse to get rid of them
because nobody else has EMOM company
socks.
So, and I love them.
probably shouldn't wear them.
It gets a little bit bigger every time
I do,
but they're sitting on top of my dresser
right now because I'm trying to force
myself to just get rid of them,
and I still refuse to.
Sentimental socks.
Yeah, a hundred percent.
Shanna says,
I gave a game shirt to a friend
and she qualified the next year.
Corey, I'll send you a shirt this year.
I expect you to wear it.
Don't think I won't.
Test me.
Test me.
I'll wear it on a show, Shannon.
I will wear that thing to work.
I don't care.
I'm the bunts right there on the front.
Larry's popping in here.
There's no way Larry is wearing Shannon's
shirt.
I'm just, I've met both in person.
Not going to happen, Larry.
Sorry.
Mm-mm.
And then Wayne says all I get is
the four by six space behind me.
I actually get the whole basement.
Okay.
That is, this is my space.
Scott's domain.
Shannon, if you send me a shirt,
it has to be autographed.
I'm just saying.
Okay.
Please, please, for the love of God, no,
Shanna.
Actually, no, please, for the love of God,
send Larry Young your shorts,
one hundred percent.
He is a mountain of a man.
I would love to see him in your
shorts.
Have you guys seen when Aunt Haynes,
Aunt Haynes coaches a female Masters
athlete?
I think her name is Lee Coates, maybe.
Yeah.
And every year they do like an outfit
swap and he'll put on her sports,
her like games,
sports bra and booty shorts.
And she's teeny tiny.
And he is not a large man and
he rocks it.
And they put it on Instagram every year.
It's pretty funny.
That's fantastic.
Lee Coates may be the only person shorter
than Corey.
She's so small.
Like he always has to be there to
lift her up to the rig at the
games, but she is fantastic.
I think technically Joseph is a little bit
shorter than I am.
Ortega is about the same size I am.
Well,
I can't wait to see you this week
or next week.
So soon.
Yeah,
I'll see you in a couple of days.
So when it's all over, come find me.
If you're a Masters athlete,
you're at the games, come find me.
I want to record some stuff with you
guys and put it out for promotion and
And that way we can guarantee better
internet.
Probably.
Thanks for sticking it out with my crappy
internet.
Even with the choppy internet,
you are a joy to have on.
And I've interviewed you before and your
internet was great.
Because I was at the office.
How is your home internet terrible?
That doesn't even compute.
Corey, I don't know.
I'm not an internet specialist.
I don't know.
We've narrowed down what Kate doesn't do
in IT.
I'm not an IT technician.
No.
I'm a consumer.
Got it.
Got it.
Sorry.
No, it's fine, dude.
It's fine.
I spend so much money on internet and
I've changed companies seventeen times
because this is what I do and I
cannot afford for it to be bad.
and so thank god you do thank god
one of us does but i can't wait
to see you i hopefully i can get
there soon enough to watch you guys do
some events um on wednesday and then
thursday uh but i'm super excited for that
me too
I don't know if you missed the beginning
of the show, Larry,
but I got a report that my shirts
are delayed.
They're in a container somewhere in the
Strait of Hormuz.
They didn't really tell me that they're in
a container.
They did say that the actual shirts were
delayed in getting to them to print.
So it's going to be iffy whether I
have them at the games or not.
And
And that makes me sad because that's why
I bought them.
I bought them to have them at the
games to sell there.
For four ninety nine again, Daniel Arnson,
I hope whoever made the flow decision
stubs their toe while watering their spice
garden.
I don't even know what a spice garden
is, but I'm with you, Daniel.
I get it.
Kate is sassy.
I like it.
Okay.
Did you,
did you test out any of the, uh,
announced the workout yet?
I have tested all of the ones that
have been released so far.
So yeah.
How'd they go?
You ain't gotta say nothing, but like,
how'd they go?
I think they're really fun.
I think some of the caps are aggressive.
Aggressive.
Yes.
We can talk about that when we get
off.
I think they were great learning
opportunities and they've made me excited
to compete.
I like how varied they are.
And everybody's talking, myself included,
talking so much crap about carrying the
med ball.
But that one feels...
yeah but like that one's grindy and hard
like it felt like games training like a
games workout when i was testing that one
so that's like the silver lining of that
misery i guess sure yeah no i can
see that i do want to pull this
up real quick since everybody's talking
about it here is the uh stream schedule
for the elites um and someone actually
corrected me all the athletes at the
crossfit games are elite
But CrossFit calls the individual of
eighteen to thirty four elites.
And I don't know what to call them
other than that,
because everybody's an individual other
than the team athletes.
Everybody's elite.
I don't know how to differentiate anymore.
But anyway, no offense taken.
We get it.
Here are a flow elite is going to
broadcast everything and select events
will be on the CrossFit games channel and
YouTube.
Hiller's comment makes me laugh here.
That's funny.
Corinne pepper.
So there it all is on flowly.
It is their free channel.
I don't know if you could see that
over here.
uh on the free streaming channel the also
on the masters athletes will be on flow
elite too but i do not know if
that is a free channel
I'll go take a look at some point
today.
Like I said,
I just got to turn mine back on.
It's working.
I will be able to watch all the
Master stuff,
the game stuff I'll probably have to watch
at Monster Games.
They're supposed to have a spot with a
big TV for us to have a viewing
party for while the game is going on
while we're competing.
Yeah.
I feel like I could get confused in
keeping track of all the different
platforms, but hopefully.
So if you are confused,
everything is on Flow Elite.
Oh, okay.
It's YouTube and the CrossFit Games
channel where it's select.
Got it.
I just need to tell my mom.
What does my mom need to watch?
What do I need to tell mom?
So for all Masters events,
it's going to be on Flow Elite.
We just don't know if it's pay or
free.
Yeah.
Got it.
Or as Daniel,
who I think is happy about this decision,
says on the dumb, dumb,
stupid pants platform.
Otherwise known as, yeah.
Otherwise known as flowly.
Why do I picture Daniel Arnson as a
twelve-year-old boy stomping his hands and
legs on the floor?
Stupid.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
AKA flowly.
AKA also.
Dumb dumb stupid pants.
Dumb dumb stupid pants.
They should adopt that.
If they go public and they start and
like make a trade offering,
that's what the letters are going to be.
DDSP.
It's kind of cute.
Yeah.
Just watching you guys on DDSP.
DDSP.
Oh, that was good.
That was good.
Well, that's a good place to end.
We're going to head out for the day.
Hopefully we can chat with Kate briefly
after this,
but hope you have a great rest of
your day.
We'll be back tomorrow for the same old
off the rails, dumb, dumb, stupid pants.
Maybe that's what our channel should be
called.
I like it.
Lunch with the DDSPs.
See you guys all tomorrow.
Stay jazzy.
You wouldn't wait to get to the editing
room to jazz me up.
I'm already jazzy.
midday motivation every time you press
call lunch with the glides they'll cowboy
in the heat crossfit movies music on
repeat half hour hustle yeah we building
that brand grab a plate shooting all
