Greetings and Welcome to The 405 Coffee Break with O.K. Solberg
New episodes tend to air over the local KMMR radio station @ 5 minutes past 4PM each M-F. And have been doing so, nearly every week since Sept 2018.
I'm D.J. Rasmussen, O.K.s friend since junior high, possibly your neighbor & this websites maintainer, whom strives to get each episode's show notes written, the transcript proofed and the audio posted to the internet within a few hours of that days KMMR air time. NOTE: recently been publishing most new releases by 4:30PM.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy the time we can spend together.
I want again. Welcome here to the 04:05 coffee break. Get your cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat $5.57 a bushel. 550lb steer calf $4 and a nickel to $4.15 on the top end. Butcher hog in Iowa 58ยข a pound and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings $2.39. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:HAPPY New Year. If I knew I'd lived this long, well, I would have taken better care of myself. Have you heard or even used that one before? Well, it's a new year and it came while I slept. I didn't wait up. Do you have any new year's resolutions?
OK Solberg:You know what guys? I'm gonna use a bible verse in each and every episode of The 405. That's one I think I can keep. That's my New Year's resolution. So here it is for today.
OK Solberg:Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not grow faint. Isaiah chapter 40 verses 30 and 31
OK Solberg:That seems a good one for the New Year. Now let's keep up with what we've already established this week. Tuesday, we looked at the year 1964. Yesterday, it was 1965. Today, we highlight the year 1966.
OK Solberg:It's only 60 years ago. In local news right here in Malta, Montana, I see Charlie Welch from Weirs, Texaco is selling Polaris snowmobiles. And there's a picture of Charlie congratulating two men, Clark Dahlen and Jim Langley for making the first leg of a trip on their Polaris snowmobiles from Vancouver, British Columbia to Portland, Maine. And just so you know, Charlie is smoking a pipe in the picture and is willing to sell you a brand new Polaris snowmobile.
OK Solberg:I see a holiday greeting from Malta Standard Garage. It says, good friends, good times, all the bounty of the seasons to you. Signed, Joe, Harvey, Faye, Larry, Cliff, Norris, Ted, Willie, Leroy, Tom, and Fred. Can anybody name the last names of each name that I mentioned? I noticed in the music world we have the Monkees with Last Train to Clarksville and there's, well, look, Red Rubber Ball by Circle. Yeah. The worst is over now. The morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball.
OK Solberg:We have Tommy Rowe singing. Oh, sweet pea. Come on and dance with me. Come on. Come on. Come on and dance with me. Oh, yeah. Lucky here. It's Cher singing bang bang my baby shot me down.
OK Solberg:Now to shift gears just a little bit and throttle up but not to redline it, I have to say that 1966 truly was the year of the very 1st true muscle car. You can disagree with me, but that's what I'm sticking with. And remember, they didn't call them muscle cars back then. But looking back on all those hot cars, they now are referred to as muscle cars.
OK Solberg:And in 1966, Detroit came out with the GTO standalone model. I know what you're thinking. GTO came out in '64. See, yes, you're you're correct. In '64, Pontiac offered GTO as an option package. But drum roll, please. In 1966 it marked the year the GTO became its own distinct model.
OK Solberg:The GTO wasn't just fast, it created a whole new market segment proving a massive appetite for affordable high performance street machines and sparking the horsepower of the 1960's
OK Solberg:Well, elsewhere in the news in 1966, Lyndon b Johnson, 36th US president, claims that the US should stay in South Vietnam until the communist aggression ends. Airline, PamAm places an order for 25 Boeing 747 costing, guys listen, $525,000,000.
OK Solberg:Million In the sixties, did you hear that dollar amount? $525,000,000. That's a pile of money. And with the sands falling rapidly through the hourglass, let me find one more item from 1966. What's it gonna be?
OK Solberg:A lot of things happened. Oh, on 07/01/1966, Medicare took effect for the very 1st time and now I'm on it. Happy New Year. And here's a Medicare recipient saying so until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
