Stacking Slabs

John and Brett open the episode talking Indy 500 stories, McDonald’s nostalgia, and why modern experiences feel overbuilt before diving into one of the biggest football card sales in years.
The guys break down the $1.3M Josh Allen NFL Shield Auto and what the sale says about Fanatics shaping collector attention in real time. They discuss why this card matters beyond Josh Allen, how manufactured prestige is changing the hobby, and which quarterbacks they believe are next in line for a million-dollar football card.
Later in the episode, they react to The Athletic’s recent story on gambling culture in sports cards and discuss accountability, breaking culture, dopamine chasing, and how collectors can build healthier habits inside the hobby.
They also tackle a big question from the audience:
Are collectors losing the ability to have independent taste?
Other topics include:
  • 2025 Finest Football reactions
  • The Des Bryant 2012 Prizm Black Finite sale
  • Tom Brady Topps Chrome Superfractor pricing
  • Why projects matter more than trends
  • Cards they would keep forever
  • Why collecting should leave you fulfilled instead of empty
Plus:
Nebula pickups, linebacker summer talk, and another vintage football card lesson from Episode 49.

hello and welcome to the football card podcast this is it you made it it's friday and you're listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and most importantly football cards i'm your host john aka pac nicholson and with me as always is brett mister stacking science himself brett how you doing i'm awesome i wanna shout out out of the gates i saw you saw this because i tagged you but shout out c d g underscore sports on the instagram machine i smashed ben on a twenty twenty five michael pittman junior gold prism that i needed on ebay it had make an offer but the price was nice and i just was very impatient and needed the card so i smashed ben after i smashed ben i saw the seller was cdg and i was like i know i know this character and so when this card came i posted it on instagram but protected it very great packaging and the card was very protected with you know how you should package a card with like the card shield but then wrapped in plastic but on one of the pieces of cardboard it said long live the football card podcast so i would recommend anybody out there who needs football cards to check out cdg's sports ebay store to go find your football cards and if you praise this podcast we will elevate you and your brand here so i just i i i almost forgot it wasn't on the format but i was like i can't forget this so i just wanted to lead off shouting out one of our loyal listeners who is a great seller and knows how to make my day when i get a mail day yes i love that shout out cdg i i reposted that and awarded a thousand points to which timmer's cards another loyal listener on the football card pod responded and said corruption everywhere laughing emoji and no no no my friend that is no corruption that is just straight up honest and open lobbying and bribery accepted like if if if i get a piece of mail that says something positive about the football card pod you better believe you're getting points that's no corruption there that is just oop we're an open book here on the football card pod it it works we're willing to promote you and your brand on the opening segment so you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours exactly so yeah shout out cdg great collection too he's got some cool early two thousand football stuff how was your memorial day weekend brett three days off was it was it relaxing chaotic chaotic it was great the month of may in indy is almost over it's such a great month we were at home for a majority of it i'm trying to even we had a so my it's one of the it have one of those moments when you like are your younger self and you look forward and seeing what's happening you're like man i can't believe that's the life i'm living and these are the things i'm doing because one second it felt like a a minute ago was a degenerate out in the infield at the coke lot doing the indy five hundred and the next minute i am responsible for my not only my children but my brother and sister in law's two girls had to spend the night so the cousins of my kids who my kids adore stayed my they my brother and sister-in-law just had a baby so we relieved them and had their two kids over so we had five girls at the crib on saturday the night before the race doing dance parties and watching movies and eating popcorn one thing that when you are hosting a sleepover with cousins that is completely acceptable is to doordash mcdonald's for dinner so we doordashed mcdonald's for dinner and i hadn't had a traditional mcdonald's meal in a while and god was it good so shout out mcdonald's mcdonald's you should sponsor the pod we've got football card collectors who need a their stomach filled before they're heading to the stadium or at home before they're watching their teams play every week so we we would love to talk more about mcdonald's i'm a mcdonald's guy so that happened and then the race was just historic what a finish the fast the closest finish in indianapolis five hundred history it was exciting so you were in the you were in the mix how was that we were there we were boots on ground at the five hundred wow yeah talk about just like living in a new a new self a new body where the last time i went to this race was twenty eleven twenty twelve where same thing i think one of those years i slept in the trunk of my car like the night before in the coke lot and then was at it in the morning so you know just a different a lifetime ago this year shout out my friend phil his him and his wife do a party bus every year like they have it dialed in it's all about you know going with a crew that has done it several times and so party bus picked us up at seven am and took us there played some games went to our seats in the stands we're in between turns three and four i mean that's a long day though by by the time that race ended i was glad that race ended and then it's another four hours still in this bus to get home because you're just you're not moving you go from watching cars go two hundred miles an hour to sitting in a car going zero miles an hour but no fun day awesome day my one of my big takeaways is i got a physical ticket from the event which i just thought those are a thing in the past especially in an event that has four hundred thousand some patrons so to have a physical ticket a little collectible if you will a little memorabilia felt good because it's been a i love i love stashing a ticket anytime i get one in in the box of ticket memories so having a piece of the five hundred and and the fastest or closest ever finish of the five hundred maybe i gotta get that graded with the little designation on there yeah i think that would be cool heck of a day for you the i'm i was thinking or i saw a cool graphic and usually you see these graphics every year before the five hundred where they put like you know the vatican the colosseum all these places inside this year i saw a new one it was forty you could fit forty one gangbridge field houses inside of the indianapolis motor speedway which was crazy to think about you could fill up lucas oil stadium five times also the craziest stat of them all is one in every what was it one in every a thousand i saw it us usa is hundred and thirty eight hundred and thirty yeah one in eight hundred and thirty is at the race oh yeah that's wild but yeah it's just you were there but it's it's just hard to describe like we've all been to big games and big events but there is truly nothing like the sea of humanity in at the indianapolis five hundred it's something yeah unreal people watching and just do you see anything tell what is one thing you saw that just made you laugh oh man any pyro was anyone setting anything on fire this year no i didn't see any fire i didn't see anything crazy i don't know if i'm desensitized anymore but i didn't see anything where i'm like you live in new york for eight years you see some some freaks and i've been to five hundreds before so you know i saw i saw butts butts were out you know butts that didn't need to be out mhmm saw a lot of drunk people of course i saw yeah but no no crazy outfits no even good now i'm trying to think about it i didn't even see any good jerseys like no good throwbacks and i should have been i'm sure i missed some but one thing i had to i wrote down mcdonald's you're talking about mcdonald's i just have two quick thoughts on mcdonald's one shout out to mcdonald's in the indy airport nothing like traveling sunday coming back the chick fil a is closed which is always a bummer because it always flashes through my mind when i'm landing i'm like oh there's chick fil a in the food court i'll get that nope sunday can't do it so the mcdonald's i i frequent that mcdonald's if i'm coming home on a sunday it's like you gotta i have to be full by the time i get home i can't get home hungry back into the mix with the toddler and all that it's like no i i have to be ready to to go in there but the mcdonald's that's near the children's museum there was like a few weeks ago i forget if we were coming back from the zoo or the children's museum but we're all hungry we're all hungry and we told my daughter we're getting french fries don't worry there's this mcdonald's right here the drive through line was crazy but we're waiting we're like it's gonna be so worth it don't worry we get up to the order thing and the lady's just like it's mobile order only like if you didn't mobile order like get you get i was like the eruption in the car we were so mad i was so mad had because just had to drive off after you know committing twenty minutes in this mcdonald's drive through line to not get any mickey d's devastating so not maybe i just gotta doordash it like you that's the that's the veteran move i think you know i it's this is when you start to feel old because they're always asking me about the mobile orders and i'm just like i don't i don't i don't do that i don't know what you're talking about and what i have learned through the process is they wanna make it for anyone who wants to go the traditional route who does not wanna switch over into the new version they wanna make it as painful as possible it is it is not the same mcdonald's that i remember from an experience perspective they it's new age they they've built it for these kids you know sometimes i just wanna walk walk in order my stuff without a screen talk to a human being sit there like a normal person and eat my mcdonald's but it's it's not built for that anymore which is the product is still the product but the experience you know i've just maybe i'm just the old guy these days no i think the experience is just across the board i think the experience is down yep agreed too many screens and not even just from a social media content perspective the the ordering of it all the interiors of cars we just got our new lease on this car like so we have a newer model of a car and just everything's touchscreen i don't like that i need buttons give me physical buttons i have to like there's too many settings there's too many you gotta switch over from screen one to screen two to be able to turn the volume down i'm like that's insane like i should just have a volume button that's always the volume button that i can dial as needed and everything doesn't need a jingle that's mhmm that's my other tirade right now like our tv when i turn it on or off just makes the like lg noise we have a kia when i get in the car it makes a start up jingling noise and they're they're it's unnecessary what are we doing we're not everything needs to be tech infused and have a a jingle some things can be a good old fashioned you walk up to a counter and you order some a burger and chicken nuggets or you just push a button to turn on the radio that's it give me give me the give me the aluminum ashtrays on the tables at mcdonald's like like give me the smoking section take me back to that era nothing better than the smoking section the divider between the smoking section and the nonsmoking section being just like a two foot partition like it's not stopping anything i remember the smoking section at the wendy's on shalen was like the old school wendy's had like this tube room and like you would look outside and you could see the windows to the parking lot and it was just like they they pushed all the smokers in the tube room so you're like but you walk in the front door and to the right is the tube room where the smoking happens and then right to the left is where you order and it's just like man this this wasn't too long ago where this was the way we were doing business at fast food and it's kind of wild now in twenty twenty six where my preference is just bring back the smoking but throw away the apps that's where i'm at these days wait did is the tube room is that like the sunroom yeah the sunroom yeah yeah damn i didn't realize that was the hey i would love to smoke a cig in a wendy's bedroom right now that would that sounds great yes and maybe that'd be a fun like football card podcast series for anybody who was up for smoking a cigarette while eating wendy's we could you know put some mics on the table and do a couple interviews yeah that that could be a activation at the national where we just ran out ran out of wendy's sunroom just that that triggers me how about walking out of the convention center at the national and boy do you get everything you get you get people ripping bowls you get people smoking sick i mean it is there is more smoke in that area than anywhere else in the city of rosemont or chicago or anywhere in america combined it's like these heathens have been sitting there dealing sports cards all day long and all they want is a cig a joint a vape or something you just walk out it's literally like if you're not smoking something you are outnumbered oh man that two we're two months out can't can't wait but trade night trade night in the wendy's sunroom cigs are wired you have to be smoking a cig to do a deal that's what we're doing here at the football card pod yeah sometimes you need to we all try to be healthy people go on runs you know lift some weights try to eat right don't eat red meat too much but sometimes you just need to like throw that all away and rip cigs and eat some wendy's exactly alright episode forty nine season five episode one can't believe we're here we made it forty nine fifty right around the corner and then fifty two and then i was thinking we're about to get like this is gonna be linebacker summer yes like all summer linebacker summer we gotta think of some additional maybe events or content spin offs because when we're in the fifties it's gonna get fun we're gonna have a lot a lot of good number talk i'm ready to get out of the late forties i gotta be honest with you yeah there it's been a slog but you know we're almost on the other side but before we get to numbers or any of that we gotta shout out our sponsors cardladder the only ones shout out cardladder the official data provider of the football card podcast and the broader stacking slides network new episode of cardladder confidential in the can on the feed go check it out alright before we do numbers i feel like we've got a couple good some there's been hobby news since we last recorded some hobby news that broke right after we last recorded which was the josh allen shield selling for what was it one point three million dollars so that is a million dollar plus football card sale something that hadn't happened in almost three years they said it was not possible but here it is and i believe we called it we called it on the football card pod just a couple guys talking shop and hypothesized that the next million dollar sale would probably be a shield auto and this was the what is it twenty twenty five tops chrome honors mvp award gold shield and so it's josh allen's shield that he wore for the mvp season it's got the gold border which two things one this is a redemption which is just hilarious to me someone spending one point three million dollars on redemption like i know it's you get the card eventually but who's to say it even looks like this version that's kinda pictured on there and even that pictured version i feel like isn't that kinda cutting off the gold border of the shield which is like the whole thing that makes it the mvp shield that so that to me is a little weird but yeah one point three million dollars for a josh allen shield what any thoughts there yeah i think it's great that you know all i have to do is talk about negatively about something and then we we get a million dollar sale so you know last week i was maybe downgrading shields and then on the other side of it is this sale so if you have any cards that you're trying to sell just tell me in advance and i'll just trash them on the football card podcast and then you'll sell them for all time highs it's crazy this feels like this card has been out or sold like a month ago but this literal this happened right after we recorded so i did an episode in my patreon group on this card but i think just the thing that i wanna call out is the how fanatics is shaping collector attention in the culture where you've got this dynamic between manufactured prestige verse versus earned significance and the big thing is the fact that this card in this concept is brand new mhmm and a brand new card in concept can sell for a million dollars based on narrative positioning messaging and this is driven through the manufacturer and typically before this it took years of collectors debating collectors forming narratives people showing their collections for cards to reach these heights and that is not the case in this new era that we're in so i think that is interesting and that is my takeaway for this is that this literally just got thought about in a boardroom or in a leadership meeting or a product conversation it was brought to life and whoever was the decision maker of these concepts within top slash fanatics like hats off to you home run idea but i think that's my takeaway is like this is not something that has been sitting for years this is a brand new concept all the elements putting together and then on the other side of it you get a million dollar sale i've seen so many people talk about oh josh allen hasn't won a super bowl this is like that's not what this is about so to me this is about that and obviously there's other opinions and things you can think about but man if if this is what fanatics and topps is what what they can do for cards in the market i mean strap in because this usually out of the gates we don't see stuff like this and we're we're already here so that's what i'm thinking about yeah crazy sale something too i was just thinking because yeah the whole josh allen hasn't won a super bowl whatever but people love josh allen right yep like he does have a lot of fans and i was trying to just i was looking at stats trying to think about why it's because i i like josh allen i'm rooting for him and i think part of it josh allen has like never had a bad fantasy football season like if you've ever had josh allen on your team over the last eight years he's put up like top quarterback numbers which i do think there's there's something there if you've had all these over eight years different people rooting for you in some capacity and you haven't let them down that's huge because i think there's certain players that when they if they burn a fantasy owner people don't forget that and that that sticks with you on a personal level and josh allen just his numbers are insane in part josh allen has seventy nine rushing touchdowns in his career seventy nine that's twenty third all time he's one away from passing ed edron james edron james had eighty in his career barry sanders isn't that far ahead i mean just when it's all said and done josh allen is gonna be like a top rushing touchdown leader of all time he's gonna be up on that list so that's just like lamar jackson for comparison has thirty five like seventy nine is an insane amount of rushing touchdowns to have so it it seems like the bills are always in that spot where they're like at the four yard line and if you just think about it mhmm and think about the play design and think about the cast of characters they have when i watch that and they're splitting people out i've seen it we've all seen it so many times it's just like well they should probably just run the ball with josh allen here yeah and it every time it works it's like every time so it's yeah i love the fantasy point you know we want excitement we want moments we want memories and the way josh allen plays he he's one of those guys that just kinda leaves it all on the field and he's got a lot of passion and emotion he's a freak in nature he can run he can throw so yeah i don't care that he hasn't won a super bowl like i'm not the one who's gonna say it shouldn't be a million dollars because he didn't win a super bowl collecting is about popularity it's about desirability it's about being undeniable and josh allen is all of those things yep saw you had a little follow-up about twenty twenty six yeah so of course i try to always look ahead and i was thinking about this card and thought you know what we're gonna get another version of this card next year and we don't know who's going to be on it and so naturally i went and looked at the mvp odds so i wanted to propose the question of who whose gold nfl shield will we get in twenty twenty six chrome we'll do the vegas odds i mean i put these at the time of recording i looked these up yesterday but we have the leader in the clubhouse from an odds perspective is he josh allen at plus six hundred we've got lamar at plus seven hundred we've got drake may at plus eight fifty we've got joe burrow at plus nine fifty we've got patty mahomes at plus a thousand justin herbert at plus eleven hundred dak prescott at plus twelve hundred that that is the top of the list if you go all the way down the list it's it's lit it's just quarterback so mhmm wanted to get your opinion on who who you who is your way too early projection to have the next nfl gold shield from tops chrome that's going to sell inevitably for a million dollars when i first saw this list well then i i had to go look up because i wanna see where some other players were namely matthew stafford the reigning mvp i was like wait he's not even in the top seven so stafford was down there at plus fourteen hundred tied with caleb williams plus fourteen hundred which is insane that he's that high in my opinion but stafford that feels just low he's a reigning mvp he was sick last year the rams are still gonna i feel like the rams are gonna be good again like i don't know i could see him going back to back like rogers did like twenty twenty twenty twenty one where it was just like oh this is the oldest smartest guy in the league who can just pick apart any defense i mean that's what it felt like watching stafford all last year i don't think that's gonna really change this year and then sam darnold plus twenty eight hundred feels a little disrespectful told sammy and it got me thinking like darnold's story on paper he should like feel like a hobby darling where it's like he bounced around finally got a chance in minnesota and put up insane numbers went to another team wins a super bowl with like good numbers like made a pro bowl had good numbers but i just feel like he can't wipe the the sam darnold stink of young off him old sam darnold he just i don't know it's just it like if you blind ab tested sam darnold's resume from last year and his stats with like other quarterbacks sam darnold blew people away he had more passing yards and passing touchdowns than josh allen josh allen had a shit ton of rushing touchdowns but i don't know sam darnold's stats were crazy or not crazy but very good and he was leading the best team in the league and so for him to not even be considered next year going into you know a back to back title defense i don't know just feels like plus twenty eight hundred that's possible value there if the if they start seahawks even if they start out you know five six and o and it's they're could run it back you could see could see narrative shift and that's another thing just interesting to see how narratives shape things like this where it's not always just the stats that year or the accomplishments that year there's like more things taken into consideration and baked into the whole thing yeah i think with darnold it is we're learning and he's a good example especially in this era to look at i think we're learning that it is hard to shake that stink off you no matter what you do on the other side even if it means win a super bowl so i think he's competing against that alongside this idea of in order to be the mvp you have to undeniably be the most important piece of your team and when you look at the seahawks i think you immediately think about their defense as being the most important piece of that team so i think that probably hurts him i i mean i'm not gonna say anything negatively of him he's a wonderful player he's proved it freaking won a super bowl so i've got nothing but love for sam darnold as i was looking at this list and i was visualizing i like closed my eyes and i was like in this auction when everyone's gonna be bidding up cards like what is the card that i see and this might i i mean it's it's not a a a long shot but i i will i will say it right now as we are in we're approaching june end of may here i am going to just lay my claim to the mvp of the league and the next gold shield card being that of joe burrow we have been a pro joe burrow podcast this entire time i was i was i was i was walking around my kitchen thinking about this and i am not sure since peyton manning i have seen a better quarterback stretch than what joe burrow did two years ago when he was trying to will the bengals into the super bowl or into the playoffs you know the injuries obviously have plagued joe burrow but i don't i mean toe to toe with any quarterback healthy it's it's really hard for me to pick against joe burrow i think the bengals are going to have a bounce back year obviously they invested in the defensive side of the ball he's got i think the best receiver in the nfl and ja'marr chase to throw to i think i look at that division and i feel like it it is up for the taking so i'm going joe burrow i i just want a joe burrow joe burrow healthy year because outside of josh allen there's no other player in the nfl i enjoy watching more than burrow yeah burrow's awesome i think the the thing holding him back and same thing with mahomes on this list is they'll be eligible for that comeback player of the year and i feel like when a player it's close it's harder to get that mvp when you could also like oh give him comeback player of the year and for burrow won it twice already burrow has two already burrow got a third straight comeback player of the year that'd be incredible oh god you know you just i don't i'm not sure that's a good thing the three peat of the seapoy that's i love it mahomes at plus a thousand too it's like come on this is patrick mahomes like i just i have full faith that he will he's still going to be a great quarterback for a long time even coming off this injury so have you seen the have you seen the video of him in camp yet or otas he's dude he's got this it it's it's con i'm sorry my it's kind of unsettling and i'll tell you why he's got this like mechanical thing covering his entire leg and it's just like i am not i'm sure he's going to be fine but it's just unsettling and you just we live in clip culture my quarterback obviously tore's achilles devastating they the colts put out a little clip him running onto the field him behind center throwing the ball and it's like i'm at ease a little bit because it's like oh i'm not sure i was expecting that already but yeah the mahomes like piece on his leg i was like i'd i'm sure it'll be fine but i don't like seeing it so you're saying it it's a red flag to you like the injury's worse than you might think or i i know you're getting like he's becoming half cyborg and it's gonna be like the scariest version of mahomes that we've ever seen with like an indestructible legs i i have i i don't doubt mahomes ever like i had he's a wonderful player but just when your franchise guy is does not he's walking to the field he's not looking quite like himself from an aesthetics perspective i know they're protecting him and i know this isn't training camp or anything else but yeah i don't know it just i don't wanna see my quarterback with a leg sleeve of mechanical support whatever he had going on there the the barry bonds armor it's what it was yeah alright couple more opening topics one thing that athletic put out an article that i found interesting the intersection of sports cards and gambling how hitting a grail card led to rehab it kind of follows one of the guys who was in on the break that won the lebron triple logo man he was one of the three guys that he had like a heat team spot someone had a lakers someone had a cavs they took thirds on the ownership of that card they sold it through golden it was on king of the collectibles all that he got money from that and he just openly admits that he's a degenerate gambler addicted to whatnot addicted to all of that part of the hobby and it just kinda got me thinking we have a small voice in the hobby brett do you have any advice for being fiscally responsible in the hobby when you hear stories like this or just navigating the culture because i feel like you know we all like sports we all like collecting we all to some degree probably like a little bit of gambling and like this hobby is an intersection of all those things and there's obvious case studies of it being a very dangerous thing to people's livelihoods so just wondering if you had any advice out there for being responsible in the hobby i think first addiction is a real thing and it's a good reminder that we can get wrapped up easily on the chase and the thrill and the dopamine rush of winning anything in any format big like it's good to have self awareness for and self reflection for what is happening in your own hobby world so i am a a a big believer in having conversations about issues that you have and doing whatever you can to try to fix them and getting help when you need it i i i i believe in that i will also say this sports cards has always been a space for gambling and the whole construct of it you buy a hobby box you don't know what you're gonna get and you're spending money and hoping you're gonna pull something that is higher value than the money you spend on the hobby box it's always been that way it is amplified in this era where we're in a society where literally gambling is being promoted like cigarettes were second sigs mentioned when we were growing up in the nineties it's literally integrated in every piece of everything from that we consume as individuals who love sports so the hobby is noticing this it is amplifying it manufacturers view breakers as their best distribution channel literally just go into any of these live platforms and watch how quickly product gets ripped and watch how much money gets spent and how easy it is to spend money literally one swipe buy into a spot charge your credit card it's seamless so it's very easy i think to get wrapped up into this i will say this we as individuals in this space really need to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and activities and i like this article where you have someone sharing kind of what they've been dealing with i think these are good things but i'm a big accountability guy i'm a big don't blame the industry or don't blame the the companies like it's the way it is and this is the way our culture and society has moved whether you like it or not so i think we should just be responsible and if we're buying into breaks like checking ourselves and if we can't check ourselves that's when we as individuals in the space need to seek help need to seek counsel need to seek support and i would like to see more you know conversation around that i think it's really important but this is the way this is the way it is and the way money is fly i'm not i'm just i'm not sure we get to these million dollar sales without this infrastructure and the way it's going right now so that's good article i read it then that's kinda my feedback and kinda primary takeaways from it yeah great thoughts it got me or you just talking about how sports cards has always been gambling with like ripping wax and stuff i will say though like it didn't feel like that twenty years ago where like the hobby box was fifty dollars a hundred dollars and like you're getting so like it wasn't all about trying to break even with the cards twenty years ago like we've gotten to this new point where there are these one point three million dollar chase cards within these products which is then warranting a thousand dollar box price so like that's just a bummer in my mind that that's where we're at now where mhmm there is no product where just ripping it for the sake of ripping it like exists like there's even like in the low end products they're putting like kaboons and stuff which is jacking up the prices of those box like there's no like fifty dollar hobby box you could get right so and and so then like if you're a kid coming up in this era you're more focused on like this hit culture and the like the chase card culture which is something i don't remember as a kid as a kid it was like i'm opening a pack of cards that i'm going for the pack that has the most cards in it like i was like give me oh this tops pack has twenty cards yeah that's the one i wanna open over the skybox pack that has two cards because i want twenty over two it was like a much more a different experience back then and and then maybe that's just my own warped perception of it but no it's it's a good perception and it's a good call out and it's a good way to ground us and i think that way it used to be is you think about the surrounding elements and you think about mall shows you think about dingy hobby shops you think about beckett's in physical form like that way supported that culture but this is this culture has athletes tied to it this culture has premier hobby shops online digital everything and it's just the evolution and i don't know if like we evolve into this state where we have a podcast and we're talking about football cards on a weekly basis without this subgenre of the manufacturer being able to sell their products to people that move through it quickly and turn that inventory quickly so there's we could probably spend two hours digging into this but yeah it's it's a different ballgame and it's we just we as collectors need to be aware of of what's happening and what's pulling us into different areas and just have some self awareness but yeah this is a good this is a good thread yeah couple final thoughts on it that i wrote down one is there a good budgeting app out there i feel like that's a resource collectors would like and i feel like with claude existing someone could claude that up where it's like this is how much money i wanna spend on cards a month this is you know i feel like there's a a program that someone could whip up that could be a useful tool for collectors so if that exists please share we will share it or if it doesn't exist and someone out there has a nice little engineering background and wants to cloud that up do it another couple parts you kinda touched on this but i think asking yourself like what are you getting out of this whole thing and if it's like the rush of a big hit and the rush of gambling just be aware of it and recognize that and be careful if it's like the completionist part like that you're satisfying an itch on that front i think that's a good sign of the collecting like if you can find joy in the like fifty dollar range i think is also a fun way to go about the hobby where like or just another way to think about it if if you feel that you're stuck on the like repacks and breaking and chasing stuff like finding i don't know just like finding a lane where you're just happy to get the card even if it's cheap because you're trying to piece something together i think that i found a lot of joy in putting together sets that helped me kind of focus in on team collecting and stuff like that more not saying that that's what everyone has to do but just again early on when i was back in the hobby i was buying what i thought was gonna go up in value or just chasing like just doing things that i ended up losing money so that could work and then find ways to be entrepreneurial in the hobby like it's okay to sell cards it's okay to buy cards with the intent to sell them and make money because it's so cool to be able to then buy a really cool card only by selling other cards and i feel like people are it's easy to get stuck in the like you don't wanna be a flipper or anything like that and i don't know i just don't think there should be such a negative connotation around flipping like if you're trying to collect cards it's okay to buy cards to sell cards to buy more cards or buy cards to sell cards that you think are gonna go up like you can do whatever you want in this hobby and like the the balance is there it doesn't have to be all or the other but it the point there is because it's better to be able to buy cards with other by selling other cards than just like going into debt buying more cards always with credit or cash like it you don't have to do that you could sell cards to get other cards or to just get money like it's fine if you have a personal situation going on where you need cash like sell the cards yes i think great points great thoughts good topic the final just filtering test that would might be helpful i try to do this is does ask myself this question does what i'm doing excite me or does it leave me empty if you ask yourself that question and you're you're feeling empty most of the time then you probably that should be a like a a signal to you that what you're doing is probably not good yeah alright i had one final note on opening topics but i saw that you have a new pod out i think that's touching on this and it'll be old news by the time this is out but the wemby sale the curtains have always blown my mind that picture of the wemby prism card and just you could've put them on anything you could've put them on any background look at the twenty twenty anthony edwards like that's a photoshoot picture but there's just a design in the background but they chose for victor wabanayama to just include the the curtains and the gym floor and and now that's on a five million dollar card just crazy to me but yeah i know that you have i think a interview with hoops collectors out there yes yeah go check out yeah all you football card collectors go check out mac's hoops collectors podcast we get into it only note i'll say about the curtains is those curtains look like the type of curtains i need in my children's bedrooms to keep the lights out so that's when when wendy maybe wendy's after that five million dollar sale wendy's looking for a nap so that's that's what i'm thinking about that is a great call especially now with the sun setting at nine pm and our daughter's window faces west so it's just like mhmm no it's nighttime and she she can look at and point and be like no it's not like even though we have blackout thing they just need to be longer i need the wemby curtains yep need the wemby curtains in the room yes yeah yep maybe in light of them losing all the licenses panini can put out wemby curtains and all the dads and moms will buy them hey right now with the way wemby's market is if they put out patch cards with the curtains in it those would probably sell like you want part of the five million dollar card here's the actual part of what went into this five million dollar card the wemby curtains oh buddy alright episode forty nine another thin one there's only one hall of famer who wore number forty nine bobby mitchell and bobby mitchell's sick though i looked him up i had to i had to learn about all these players i love doing this so a halfback and wide receiver played college football for the fighting illini and then the browns and the redskins he was let's see played for the browns from fifty eight to sixty one jim brown was there star running back mvp he was kinda splitting the backfield with brown for a couple years and then he went to the redskins and switched to receiver and just became a stud receiver where he was selected to three consecutive pro bowls he made some first team all pros he led the league in receiving twice and made it to the hall of fame so shout out bobby mitchell that and that card's sick this card made me so brett is showing his nineteen fifty nine tops bobby mitchell psa ten just like a what a fifties design with the different colored letters in his name and the little brown logo in this photo this made me instantly look up what bears players are in this set like i just want one of these cards to put in my bookcase because they just look so cool so yeah i love this the card itself and the aesthetics awesome card awesome learning about bobby mitchell i did just i had not i i i selected go what i selected arden key who is now an indianapolis colt on the titans he he wore forty nine dude i did something i never have done before i went to pro football reference and went to every team and they have a filtering if they wore the number and it was so barren it was a barren wasteland of numbers i i you know i figured you might wanna talk about tremont edwards he he's a forty nine tremont edmonds yeah tremont edmonds sorry yeah yeah edmonds no longer a bear yeah who's he on now where did he go the giants he went to the giants yeah he's at tremont he was was good he was having playing great last year then he got hurt but just huge he's like six four a very tall linebacker yeah on the giants now and yeah but forty nine was barren out there oh i was gonna say there is a pro football reference where you can search all players ever to wear a certain number because then you can sort it by av bobby mitchell's number one tremaine edmonds is number three dennis smith is number two oh he's a safety broncos i think safety for the broncos yep in the eighties and nineties fourteen years for denver six time pro bowler that means he probably oh no he retired in ninety four damn so just before the super bowls but yeah forty nine is one of the the lighter but okay i just took you off the stage for a second sorry about that all good uh-uh yeah now next episode episode fifty and then linebacker summer baby yes it's time ready for it because like linebacker summer you know like getting on the beach that's like a linebacker activity like running through the beach doing running up sandy hills feels like a linebacker drill you know it's all summer linebacker summer get ready alright let's knock out some questions yeah i got the first one yeah you got the first one yeah i i felt compelled because we haven't talked about it i said you love finest what do you think of the new finest football product i do love finest and i'm loving the look of this new finest product just also a full admission of being influenced but not influenced i don't think in a negative way but shout out modest card collection danny awesome collection of new york teams and just other cool cards but he posted a two thousand twenty five finest and this is a basketball card but og anunobi black geo one of one and i was like oh my god this card is sick like the colors are awesome it just looked really cool and it made me be like wait finest is out for football let me see what's out there so i started looking into football and i love the design i really do love the design what i am still wrapping my head around are it has like tiered levels kinda similar to select and then the numbering's different like so for these black geometrics on the football side there's like a common version that's numbered out of twenty then an uncommon version that's numbered out of fifteen and then the rare version that's numbered out of ten and i like the designs on them all but i don't i don't like the they're they're not that different like the fifteen to the ten it's just kind of a different it's very much like the variations that we always make fun of of like slightly turned left slightly turned right like the the design and the image isn't that different to me so it's like alright so you have twenty thirty five forty five copies of that specific parallel it just kinda waters it down a little bit but maybe on the other hand there's opportunity for people to get cool cards like if you don't care about that numbering that much it's like hey i i can get a rare card out of twenty or out of fifteen with a cool design for pretty cheap so i don't know but overall i really like how some of these look i'm gonna try and probably get a couple just because a lot of this stuff's cheap right now too of like just a random parallel oh this looks cool i'll try it out do you think yeah i guess i'll start first with saying nice things and it'll be nice things not about this product but i will start by saying i really like the chrome product that's what i'll say i really like the chrome product this is like i just had parent teacher conferences for my two and a half year old which is hilarious and your your glows and then your gross exactly exactly i there there okay so there was a jonathan taylor which is on ebay marked up for three x what it went for a super fracture i think there's a daniel jones available now when people sent me those i literal i they didn't move me in any way shape or form i i and and the biggest point of contention i have and this is what i've learned about myself as a collector i hate the levels i hate the select levels i hate the finest levels i hate how there's three different jacks and darts in three different it's so confusing and then the super factors having three different versions that's like come on we don't need that it sucks so i pair that which it's crazy as i think about like the select product just post this i i i i have a problem with it because of that i just i really have a problem with it so i go back to the design and stuff and i do i it's just not for me it it just is not for me i it's too much it's mhmm it's just not for me it's like we all have our own opinions on like the look and feel of cards i just i'm this is not where i wanna spend my money but one thing that i found interesting on the sell sheet so the jackson dart like they're they're throwing back to two thousand six here so you got the throwback design here with the auto it it it seems like it's trying to be a lot of things and i think it's it's too many things right now i wish it was just like it'll never be this but i wish it was like a checklist of one hundred and two hundred cards and then just give me the parallels give me some inserts but there's just a lot going on with this product and i just i i don't think i'll i'm gonna be a player although i said i wasn't going to be a player i didn't think in chrome and i'm out here buying chrome and loving life click in my heels when i'm getting mail days but this i'm not into this yeah that card that you were just showing the o six finest flashback autograph jackson dart super factor i just never like when the biggest text on a card is something i don't care about like the biggest text on this card is flashback mhmm what what does that mean like no just be a cool card about jackson dart and have that be the second thing like the main thing should be jackson dart and that this is a one of one autograph not that this is a flashback autographs like get out of here the overly branding stuff don't need it yeah yeah that's a big pet peeve of yours so you've you've talked about a lot of different things regarding that which is which is it's great to have pet peeves i don't like the levels i think the when i have to look jonathan taylor up and i search him and see his name pop up several different places and it's like the base set and i knew this was gonna be a problem because the wwe product came out before this and they had the common uncommon and i was just like what in the hell is this and i'm like this how do i know which one's better than the other and it was just like i'm not into it so yeah and then i feel like people are probably listing them wrong when there's like the three level like i don't fully trust that people are always getting it right like i saw that with domino's optic when the neon yellow looks like a gold and people are listing it as golds and it's like alright so this black geometric that you're saying is out of ten is actually out of fifteen because it's the uncommon not the rare and yeah it's it's too much going on but if it were just a more simple boiled down version with the design i'd love this because i love the colors i love the shapes like that's what i always drew me to like o five finest is like the weird circle and triangle geometry things going on like it's an element that the brand has that i do enjoy so yeah maybe once i 'm buying a couple and we'll see yeah let me know what you think when you get them in hand yeah alright great question brett next up from bulk card crew am i evil for wanting all these twenty twenty five tops chrome and finest card owners to run them at a dollar instead of buy it now of course not this is this is a situation i was in earlier this week where there was two cards i was going after on or a card i was going after on for chrome and the one was at auction and then one became available and so the one that was available at a buy it now price was higher than i expected to pay at the one at auction so i just i offered the seller what i was hoping to win the one at auction for they immediately countered with not much wiggle room so i just left them on red i sat there and just let the auction roll through and i was driving my kid to pick up my kids and saw the lock screen it this talk about innovation this was actually a moment so i had prebooted put in my bid on this card because i knew what i wanted to pay for it and i had my phone synced in on my honda odyssey and you know if you put in your bid and you're the high bidder on and ebay has the lock screen feature now yep that showed up on my car dashboard so i was driving watching the countdown to me winning the card for fifty one dollars as opposed to paying eighty five dollars for it so that is a like a this is a great point you're not you're not i wish all of them would be up for auction but it's just not the reality one recommendation i would have there is a lot of live selling going on and if you've not explored live selling a lot of breakers are trying to get rid of cards and they start their live selling auctions at a dollar so this is like off platform because you're not seeing these sales in cardladder but like go do some investigation across the platform of choice you might find sellers doing just this it'll take some navigating but that would be a recommendation wow okay so that's a counterpoint to the anti screen rant being able to watch ebay auctions while i'm driving my kid around does sound pretty awesome yep i think i yeah i wonder if there's a ebay widget i can install in the in the kia i'll talk to him let's see if we get that going yeah and yeah i like i fully am on board with this and you're right it exists in on my selling platforms i feel like that's just a barrier to entry that that us like ebay degenerates haven't figured out yet but i do think there's part of me that once if you if it's a new product like you don't know the value until it hits open market so when you just list a card too high to me if it doesn't sell for thirty days it should automatically go to auction like boom like here we go this is we're gonna see what this is actually worth you can't just hold it hostage and if we're talking ebay features another feature i've always wanted to see give me comment sections on listings there are like many times i'll see a listing and i like instinctively scroll down because i'm just used to like seeing a post on instagram and wanting to look at the comments i'm like oh yeah there's no comment section on ebay but we love comment sections just to have a sounding board for people to fire off some jokes and takes when people list a card way too high or just when something rare pops up like maybe there could be a little more info that i'd like to know about if there was a comment section what's so good about you saying this is i have returned to this like message board comment section place in my life where i'm the guy who just decided to finally pull the trigger and i i'm paying five bucks a month now for paid pitchfork because i wanted to be able to comment and engage with other people talking about me i had i have no like great community to talk about music and i was like outside of like a group chat i was like let me get into this and start arguing with people about why this album should be rated seven five instead of seven so i i was like we'll test this out and i'm like i'll pay five bucks a month to check this out so there there is a desire from people of our age demo to go back a little bit i'm not talking about youtube comments i don't want anything to do with that but the comment section message boards there's there's a place for them oh yeah i love a youtube comment section too i love i love when a good samaritan on like a certain type of video puts the time stamps in a comment where it'll be like like it'll be a live concert an hour long and they'll break it down at like seven thirty eight they play this song at twelve i'm like yeah alright thank you like make the chapters for me that's a that's a key there was a video someone sent a friend sent me a a studio video recording video of genesis recording god i can't think of the name of the song but it was incredible and i was like oh man i haven't seen genesis in this like phil collins had hair i was like this is something and he's just belting it out and i look at the comment section and someone was like hey is is anyone in twenty twenty six here watching this right now and i was like i felt compelled to be like yes let's talk about genesis so there's a place for it absolutely okay next up from charm city tim with the knicks making the finals what is one nfl team you'd like to see in a super bowl that hasn't been in decades or ever i'll just say this i came to the disgusting realization a couple days ago that the patriots were in the super bowl the knicks are in the nba finals it is a ugly year for me as a fan so i know all you new yorkers are happy about the knicks you should be their very good team but that doesn't make it a easy pill for me to swallow to answer this question i mean it's it's the most obvious answers to the indianapolis colts it's been two decades but i won't go there i'll i'll it's hard to answer this i'm a i i am a me against the world type of guy like i i i'm not like i'm a fan of players but i basically hate every other team it's kinda like how i approach football because i'm such a fan of josh allen i'll go with the bills but yeah that's probably the the best answer i can give to this yeah same i was like bills that's a good story josh because like i i like rooting for players too like i don't like put the jets on here too because i'm like alright to mirror the knicks like the jets would be a good story because they've been so bad for so long historic franchise getting back to a super bowl would be cool but they have no identity i was even like who is the jets quarterback i forgot it's geno smith that's going back well i'm back man i don't care about rooting for gino smith on the jets but josh allen it's fun to root for the guy that's been there for several years and been close and is good and you want him to get over the hump like that's a story that's a mhmm you know we we like rooting for that and well i understand the patriots' hatred because not only the direct competition and rivalry but then their sustained success but the knicks you know there's not part you know are you are you are you kidding me dude the pacers knicks been there they haven't been good i could care less i want nothing but bad things dude it was the nineties pacers knicks and then amplified into the modern era with knicks pacers rivalry dude no thank you no always won they roy hill blocked the bell you guys won in the finals last year we always win but we're not there this year so i can't i can't i can't stomach cheering for the knicks in any shape or form and i know we've got knicks listeners and i know you're excited but you know you if you felt this last year when the pacers were there knicks fans after we beat you guys you you you wanted us to lose i know that it's just that is a rivalry and there's a rivalry with pacers and knicks and i i i by no means can support that but that's just me that's me thunder knicks you're rooting for the thunder no question about it ugh there's no question about it let's go knicks come on i'm not even a big i just they were so bad when i lived there i wanted them to be good and then julius era that was a great era to be a pacers fan julius ramel turned turned the ship around and then i'm i'm rooting for the knicks that's gonna be awesome york's gonna burn down if they win it's gonna be incredible alright couple more from chiefs rips we've kinda inserted a version of this before but i took a different little spin on it if you had to get rid of your collection and could only be remembered slash stuck with one card which card would it be and why and i feel like we've answered versions of this before the way i'm taking this is because he says if you had to get rid of your collection and could only be stuck with one card to me i'm selling all my most valuable stuff and so i'm gonna keep something more sentimental which to me is my two thousand five finest gold extractor priest homes a card i got very cheap a long time ago and it's worth more now but it's still just like priest holmes that was fun like i'd still have my bears fandom like within me like you know i could sell all those bears cards and if like again if i'm only keeping one i think i'd keep a fun priest holmes card because that's just my guy what about you brett i think i answered this question like i no matter which way it's remixed i'm still going with my twenty fourteen andrew luck yep finite just because it's like as it it aesthetically it's my favorite card i feel like when i focused in on luck is when i had this breakthrough of how you really enjoy your time collecting in this hobby i love luck as a player i love twenty fourteen the most it's so like that anyway this question is answered that's always the card i go back to alright and last question from drake's pc who shout out drake drake is always on top of it he submitted a question like late on tuesday and wednesday morning which is this morning which we are when we are recording he dmed then my pat nicholson account and was like hey i asked a question i don't know if you've seen it yet just you know verify and i get to the question the morning news that we record on wednesday i was like i appreciate this tenacity sounds about right just on top of it so shout out drake but he said drake asks brett has touched on this previously but in a hobby where we are told to collect what we like why does it feel like collectors are losing the ability to have independent taste i think the three of us have independent thought because of who we collect but the what at least for me we collect looks very much like what the hobby likes finites super factors prism golds etcetera do we do that to feel secure because the player we collect isn't mj brady ohtani so when we say collect what you like are we really meaning to say collect who you like it's a great question do you wanna take first stab at it yeah i think it's a it's a very smart distinction to call out like who you like versus what you like because yeah it's like collect what you like well i like n t shield one of ones it's like you can't just go collect what you like necessarily so you have to kind of find your lanes that give you the ability to collect what you like and i think we've all found that through player collecting and team collecting we're able to get players that we like and relate to or just have good memories of and then get into some of those parallels that you couldn't get for these big players else like i could never get a finite of patrick mahomes but i could get one for jay cutler so it's like alright i can get this top end parallel but for a player that relates to me and and i don't think it's that the hobby necessarily like i don't think it doesn't mean we don't have independent taste because we're collecting what the rest of the hobby likes in the terms of like finite supers and prism golds i think that's a natural progression for people to get led to those parallels it's like if you're collecting a player you wanna know what were their popular sets what were the rarest cards like that's just kind of the path we all go down to and i feel like as you peel away the layers you find out okay what was the popular release from this year and then what's the hardest card to find from that release it's kinda like the road map to collecting some of these parallels and so oh no i think that's kinda normal and i don't what do you say do we do that to feel secure because the player we collect isn't mj brady and ohtani i'd say partly i think like if like why not try and buy the best jay cutler card if i'm buying jay cutler cards that's just i don't know if it's any more like i don't know deeper than that i just it's kinda like alright i like this player what what's their best card from this year what's their best card from the next year and then just figuring it out from there but how how'd you take this yeah i think a point of distinction i'll make is i don't consider myself a player collector when it comes to football cards at all and then like the draw to prism my my draw to prism is i've i've i've thought about this extensively and my draw to prism is a nostalgia play because when i got back into cards prism were the cards that were front and center and i didn't know anything about prism so i had to learn what prism was why it mattered i remember opening up twenty eighteen football i remember buying twenty nineteen hanger packs of prism and so now like many many years later like i have an affection for prism because when i got back into cards that was the brand that i connected with and since i've been back in the cards i've not only been back in the cards i've left my job to pursue a career in cards and prism really was this catalyst up for this reobsession into sports cards so i think about that and then i think about the way i like to collect and i where i focus my resources like as a team collector my north star is to try to amass the best colts collection in prism and that's what i'm setting off to do so i don't even think about the fact that prism golds cost more than optics or that black finites cost more than you know whatever one of one i don't even think about it i just think about the fact that like i love this brand it has enough years as a team collector for me to be interested and that is my pursuit i also like final note on this for me is that i think about this all the time it's like i'm collecting i'm spending all my money collecting an era twenty twelve to twenty twenty five that it's not the glory it's not the glory years of the colts this is not when peyton manning was there it's like i'm completely fine with that because i'm infatuated by the brand and the product and i am a players come and go like even like manning the best colt ever undeniably one of the greatest players ever everyone comes and goes it's like my fandom is it i'm connected to the team a hundred times over than any player who ever played for the team as a season ticket holder and so i wanna express that in the best way i have found to express that and connect it and connect that expression emotionally with a product that i love and i continue to find interesting is to do what i'm doing so i love this question because it it caused me to like reflect and dig dig into it but yeah different strokes for different folks yeah that that's that's kinda what i got yeah that's great explanation and i always kinda feel like i think about it like ideas and projects like i just have so many different ideas like within this hobby and like different projects that then like have different kinda timelines assigned to them and like i'm okay with that and this is getting kind of away from drake's question but more into like like i like having a project that might have a five year window on it or a ten year window on it like when you're starting to put together a set it's like nice to know like oh i don't need everything right away this this is a ten year project and then you can focus in on like okay i'm collecting caleb williams and that's a right now project that's like a i'm collecting current stuff and like the idea of collecting this current team is its own project i have the idea of collecting this twenty thirteen basketball set that's its own project that has like a longer time limit on it and i i don't know i just think that there's like with him talking about how like what like the ability to have independent taste is what he's asking for here and i think that can show up through these projects where like drake collecting i don't even know like i know he collects manning but i know that he has like arkansas ties and if he like starts a project there or just seeing you know the small ideas that turn into projects is something i always enjoy seeing what people are doing on that front and like that to me i guess translates into like what someone's taste is like what's an idea that they think would be cool to do in this hobby and then how do they express it yes the idea could be i wanna collect the colts it's like okay there's a million ways to collect the colts how is brett going to choose to express it oh he's gonna choose to express it by tying it with this particular brand because like and then you have this crossover between like a brand idea a team idea you know all these things come together and then it it's what art is right we're all just like yes it's like i have an idea i wanna put it on camp like draw a dog ask everyone to draw a dog they're gonna draw a different dog ask everyone to collect the colts they're gonna do it different and like the way you do it individually is where your own taste shows i love that great great addition to the conversation final thing i'll just say is that drake said like secure security it's like i don't know it's i can i can promise you this i have paid more for every player in my project probably than anyone else and i'm willing to because it is my project so if you if you had a tally actually it might be about even based on like when i got in on some of these finites but like if you put like a if i decided to sell everything today i'm i'm not convinced i'm selling my entire colts prism collection for a profit that's that's what i'll say got some wins got some losses right now yeah yeah but i'm okay it doesn't that's you enter this space when you're in a project like this where it doesn't matter how much it costs like i don't of course i don't wanna like be bent over but it's like oh the last comp of this was one hundred dollars and now it's three hundred dollars okay like that's a player i like and i need this card so i'm willing to pay two hundred dollars because it's a part of one it's a part of this picture that i'm painting yes exactly oh yeah and like yeah the picture is like the fun part it's the like even i posted yesterday the deandre swift one zero one mosaic i got which like on its own is a fine card but then i just get so hyped when i put it next to two others yes that look just like it i'm like yes i'm this is the painting the painting is coming together it's like that's what i need if i don't have that i sell the cards and i'm actively i'm going through my midseason pc sell off and if it doesn't connect it's gone and people might see some cards and be like dude you're selling that it's like yeah it's not connected to anything else yeah and like it's all it like it's all fluid like you sell it and then you realize like hey actually that was good in the painting i need to get that back yeah alright good quest thought provoking question as always drake thank you for that and everyone thank you for your questions alright let's should we just jump into sales yes let's jump into sales i was gonna recommend that we're on the same page so we've got a few here let's okay i screwed this alright we're gonna start here we're gonna start with the twenty twelve des bryant finite one of one oh my god you mentioned this but i'm just noticing this no finite in this title insane oh my god so i was i like sat and watched this and and it ended at twelve thousand one hundred dollars which is remarkably higher than the last the highest selling des bryant card before this was the twenty twelve certified with romo des dualshield one of one it's sold for thirty five hundred so obviously a a four times the sale of his highest sale of all time and when it ended i i i i said to myself that's it and because it was at ten k yeah and i was like that's it and that's crazy that this is the way these cards have taken my mind but i think it it's it's it's wild to me that this card was mislabeled a card of this stature this easily could be argued as the number one with a bullet football cards of this entire era and a notable figure on a very historic popular franchise and i'm not trying to discount twelve thousand one hundred dollars it's a shit ton of money but i was blown away that it wasn't a little higher it just seemed low and then obviously mislabeled so what's what are your thoughts on this same i thought this went low relative to marshawn lynch selling for forty five and the adrian peterson selling for fifty four i know adrian peterson has an mvp and way more accolades and des bryant like looking back at his stats des bryant had like a good three year run where he was like an elite receiver for like three years in the league maybe a little more on the edges but i don't know des bryant was sick i love des bryant i love des bryant at oklahoma state like he was just a monster there like he was so cool this for twelve thousand i had the same reaction where i was like that was it like this popped up for twelve thousand dollars buy it now and was like sitting there i'm like i would try and figure out how to buy that like just what'd you think it was gonna go for dude i thought over fifteen yeah me too fifteen to twenty i i was like not gonna be shocked if it crossed twenty and it was sitting at ten for like several days so i was like okay this is tracking for that but you just never know i guess but this is where i'm gonna go this is where i'm gonna go with it i'm gonna go with the this can be debated but i feel pretty strongly about prism as the top brand this is the debut year this is the one the the one of one out of packs in the debut set if you just like think of like cross era comparison and you just start thinking about like gym masters and you start thinking about masterpieces and you in first year of those and you just think about the players and what they might go for i just think about like des bryant will decades from now is a will be he's a mem remembered guy he's not like a common guy he he had a a good stretch and he's on the cowboys so i i think this is a very very good buy whoever want it and we could probably assume who might have won it but yeah man steel i would say yeah and i love that it like this is when des bryant was his sickest like his what were his stats in twenty twelve twenty twelve was one thousand three hundred and eighty two receiving yards twelve touchdowns then in twenty thirteen he had twelve hundred thirty three yards thirteen touchdowns fourteen he had thirteen hundred and twenty yards and sixteen touchdowns and twenty fourteen is when he was a first team all pro at receiver three time pro bowler and yeah just electric player i i do wonder like for the seller i'm like yeah i wonder if they had graded it sold it through an auction house does that do better if it had the right storytelling positioning behind it does it does it sell for more does it get more attention does did not having finite and did not having the correct parallel name in the listing title heard it i think possibly i feel like if you were a potential buyer for this card you probably found out about it through your own safe searches or or network but yeah not having finite in the listing title is just crazy i i yeah final note we'll move on and fly through some of these others i just i can't imagine selling a card like this not only raw but not having the right title and and not doing it through a con an a consignor on ebay like i just i i just those the thing people don't consider with con major consignment on ebay is like the saved people have these stores saved the visibility these auctions get like it matters like that matters so it's yeah somebody i think got a good good deal on this card even though it's crazy it's twelve grand but yeah it's a great card mister starry it's just so sick i love seeing these come out it's so fun to see because you can you can imagine it when you're like oh this is what the twenty twelve base looks like or what this is what the gold looks like but once you see it and it's all all its finite glory it's always fun i think i saw the the clay matthews is up for auction maybe on fanatics the twenty twelve that was sold previously i think i saw the i think so so maybe check into that and i'll move on to the next card i thought i called fanatics weekly yeah ending this weekend see now that's probably gonna if i had to guess take a haircut i think it's sold for eighteen i feel like this is sold like three or four times yeah it's sold this is clay matthews stuff has just been spinning around yeah packers fans they just don't care alright i wanna just call out this defensive sale daniil hunter wow texans twenty twenty five nebula out of prism this card sold for four thousand forty nine dollars at auction daniil hunter is a very very good player these cards rule four grand for for a defensive guy you just wouldn't see that a couple years ago but here he is so i just i thought this card was awesome yeah i this is a i mean awesome looking card big number for someone who's yeah an accomplished defender but i bet if you stack this up against some other all time great defenders this is probably one of the higher sales out there but sweet looking card we've got the we'll touch on this just what's your reaction on the brady twenty five chrome legend super fracture selling for three hundred and twenty four thousand dollars in bucks uniform in the bucks uniform that's the biggest thing to me like yes i know he won a super bowl there and that's awesome but if this was in patriots gear what does that go for and or is there a patriots version also i'm sure there is i bet there's a million ever since you pointed out like brady being in all these insert sets i can't get it out of my head where i'm like oh my god yeah like he's the only he's five years retired and they're putting him in all sorts yeah and the kaiju and then just every he's everywhere still as a retired player and fetching an insane amount of money cool looking card and then when you see the lebron sold for over a million it's like alright three hundred k for brady it doesn't look terrible but when you factor in the the playing days the jersey if that matters anymore but i don't know if the people buy the people buying these cars don't give a shit they don't care you're spending three hundred and twenty four thousand dollars on a card they just see tom brady's super fracture auto that's enough yep okay the mahomes variation out of chrome and a psa nine a hundred and sixty eight thousand dollars i'm not a variation guy but this card is awesome i mean this is just like mahomes expression i we talked about this last time i think it's like i do way better than what prism ever did with variations yes what the mini did what topps is doing with their variations is is is appealing to me because of the photography decisions absolutely like i would want this card if i was a chiefs client like i'm seeing the topps chrome like bears variations and i like a lot of them i'm they i will be purchasing them in to some capacity jerry rice is it's a pop sixty five he's eighty six tops rookie ninety thousand not an all time high this card once sold during the pandemic boom from a hundred and twenty five but we haven't talked about a rice eighty six tops psa ten rookie maybe ever in this so i wanted to give this some space what do you think i love these cards this set specifically the walter payton's burned into my mind it's just such a cool card the the green borders the different the colors at the bottom and yeah only a pop sixty five these are really hard to to gem i know they had a bunch of like printing issues and like dotting on them but that's just an awesome card and maybe a sign that we're reaching another peak because we're getting back up towards the covid level price of this card so final card we talked about the gold selling last week i think it was well his finite came out in a psa ten great i can't imagine getting that that card popping and seeing it was a psa ten the cam ward twenty five prism black finite listed appropriately here one of one sold for eighty one thousand dollars which i saw this sale of this in comparison of the sale of the gold and i'm like i thought this something felt off to me it was like it just it felt a little off to me that this only went for eighty one k and the i think the gold was nearing like thirty so that just you know what i mean goal at twenty six twenty six finite for less than a third like less than three x that it seems seems like either the goal is very very high or the finite this was a good deal maybe possibly i would rather have the dez brian than this though same same i'd rather have the dez and sixty nine thousand dollars than this cam ward card not saying because i don't think cam ward's gonna be good i just think that like for that price to sustain it to maintain like so much has to go perfectly right for cam ward yeah i think it's probably an element of the the jury's just a little still out on what cam ward is going to become even though he's shown flashes so yeah it could that could be a great great deal we'll we'll see how it all plays out but like thinking of even just again i'm so warped in my caleb mind but caleb's nebula rookie nebula just sold two months ago for a hundred and eight mhmm i feel like he didn't has done more than cam ward and i know he's a year older but i don't know i'd rather have a lot a lot more than cam ward i would say so i don't know just seeing that cam ward's already i guess eighty one is that twenty six for the gold is crazy i think that's what something's something's yeah something's up alright shout out cardladder for making that data easily easy to see and to talk about yep any collecting updates you wanna cover before we get on out of here i i added to the nebula stash i there was at auction the twenty four the debut year of nebula gould who is a who's his rookie so he's a return guy for the colts could factor in into the receiver conversation this year it was you know i wasn't going to pay a thousand dollars for it but it was at auction and i was like i threw in my bid and got it for a good price so added another twenty four nebula that makes four in my collection now so excited to win that one that is awesome nothing on my end a basketball card shout out basketball card podcast twenty twenty thirteen is like gold sergei baca serge hundred and fifteen bucks popped up and i just smashed bin on that and it just i love a reason to get hype about a player and then looking up sergei baca stats i was like god he was he was sick he had a run two time block champion three time all defensive just great player for the thunder and then he won a title for the raptors so mhmm just love a reason to get excited about a random player alright card call out last week patch cards the patch community stood up and shouted and said shields are cool patches are cool forget you guys we are here love that love the patches probably missed some because of the five hundred and i just was
