Stop memorizing, start listening! Welcome to Learn By Listening, the English podcast designed specifically for young learners who want to understand English naturally. We believe that children learn best through stories, not word lists.
In each episode, we filled stories with mystery, humor, and fun characters. Whether it’s meeting a "tall ghost" who is actually just Grandpa, or traveling to a sunny day in Nara with a magic kimono, our stories use simple language that students can actually follow.
What makes us different?
Context over Lists: We use vocabulary from the standard curriculum (like family, feelings, and weather) but put them into exciting plots.
Perfect for ESL: Spoken clearly and at a pace that helps non-native speakers gain confidence.
Short & Sweet: Every episode is under 5 minutes—perfect for a morning listen or a bedtime story.
Join us and discover that you don't need to memorize words to speak English—you just need to listen!

For this story, I want to invite you into my home. Every night at 8:30 PM, we have a very strict family routine. The lights go down, the toys are put away, and my youngest boy climbs into bed with his favorite picture book.
My job every night is to read to him. But we don't just look at the pictures; we are currently learning phonics.
For those who don't know, phonics is a way of learning to read by connecting the letters of the alphabet to their actual sounds. It sounds simple, right? But teaching English phonics to a young child requires a massive amount of patience.
Kids' brains are amazing, but they also get confused very easily. For example, my son always mixes up the letter 'B' and the letter 'D'. Last night, we were looking at a picture of a cute little dog. I pointed to the word and said, 'What sound does this start with?' He looked at me with big, serious eyes and shouted, 'B-B-B... BOG!' I laughed and said, 'No, a bog is a wet swamp! This is a D-D-Dog!'
(Make a funny barking sound to add texture)
We spend about twenty minutes every night making silly sounds. We hiss like snakes for the letter 'S', and we buzz like bees for the letter 'Z'. Sometimes he gets tired and frustrated when he can't blend the sounds together, but I tell him that making mistakes is just proof that your brain is trying hard.
The best part of the night is when he finally connects the sounds correctly and reads a whole sentence by himself. His face lights up with pride. It reminds me that learning a language isn't about memorizing long lists of words for an exam; it’s about these tiny, beautiful moments of discovery.
Do you remember how you learned to read when you were little? Who read stories to you?"
