What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“And it came about, whenever Moses went out to the tent, that all the people would arise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and gaze after Moses until he entered the tent. Whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and the Lord would speak with Moses. When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would arise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent. Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.”
Exodus 33:8-11 NASB1995
Yesterday one of our youth ministers talked about this verse. She focused on what Joshua did as a young man. He always wanted to learn more, always wanted God’s presence, which is why he was the last to leave. All Great stuff!
I want to look at all 4 verses There is so much to unpack in these 4 short verses.
I love how God reveals things to us at the time in which we so desperately need it. These verses at the end of Exodus, at first glance, don’t seem to reveal much. Moses meets with God, the people wait for Moses to reveal what God has said, and Joshua does not want to leave the presence of the tent.
Today we look Moses’s relationship with God. Moses had a conversation with God; “just as a man speaks to his friend.” When was the last time you just spoke to God as a friend. When was the last time your prayers were not just a laundry list of demands that God should do? Have you talked to Him other than when your struggles have gotten too much? God wants so much more from a relationship with us. In order for revival to happen we need relationship and that relationship starts with our Heavenly Father. Moses knew that which is why He spoke to God every day as a friend. Tomorrow we will talk about stepping into relationship with Him instead of waiting for others to do it for you!
Lord we love you. We thank you for all that you have done are continuing to do and all that you will do. We thank you for relationship with you. Help us to enter into that special place of intimacy with you. We pray all this in Jesus Name Amen…
