Jared: [00:00:00] Welcome to Vitality Radio. I'm your host each and every week. My name is Jared St. Clair and it's good to be with you again. I have yet another fantastic interview for you, someone I've known for quite a while now, but have just sort of reacquainted myself with and I think you're gonna be very excited to hear what we have to talk about.
But before we get into that, I wanna remind you a couple of things. First, that Vitality Radio course is always brought to you by Vitality Nutrition in Bountiful. And if you're local on the radio, uh, we're, uh, not too far away probably from where you're at, but if you're far enough away that getting up to Bountiful is not gonna be too easy.
You can jump online, vitality nutrition.com where you can chat with us if you have questions, or you can just browse around and check out what we've got for you there. I am so excited [00:01:00] because, you know, there was this thing that happened. Maybe you heard of it, COVID and the lockdowns and everything was like, uh, just closed up and I was my, my very most favorite.
Kind of industry specific thing that I do every year and have since I was 12 years old, is go to something called Natural Products Expo West. And they closed it on us twice. And then last year they wanted me to wear a mask and I said, ah, I'm not gonna go this year. There's no more, uh, restrictions. Uh, I, guests have decided that we're safe to congregate again, so that's coming up in a week and a half or so, and I'm super excited.
I was just talking to my next guest about Expo West and she's not gonna be there, which is super sad cuz she's awesome and fun to talk to, but that's okay. Cuz we're gonna talk to her right now. Her name is Amy Hall. Uh, she has been in the health and fitness industry for over 25 [00:02:00] years. She was raised in a family with a passion for health that sounds familiar, utilizing natural or nutritional and homeopathic healing.
She was taught to be conscious of ingredient labels and understand the benefits of eating a natural whole food diet. Amy has a passion for fitness. She has competed in a large number. And variety of races, including triathlons. She has also coached others to achieve their fitness and athletic goals. Amy managed her family's health food store, well that sounds familiar too.
which included evaluating and bringing in new products and consulting customers. Amy has been a broker with Sun Warrior since its founding and has been educating for Sun Warrior for. 10 plus years. She is married and a mother of three active and healthy children, and I am so excited to introduce to you my friend Amy Hall.
Amy, welcome to Vitality Radio.
Amie: Thank you Jared. It's great
Jared: to be here. This is gonna be fun. You know, we carried Sun [00:03:00] Warrior products at Vitality back when they first came out around 10 years ago, and it, you, you guys were sort of ahead of the curve, I think, to a large degree. There wasn't a whole lot of this.
You know, plant protein, plant-based stuff back then, now it seems like almost everything is plant-based and plant protein, and there's been this big shift. But one of the things that I always admired about your brand is, and, and you mentioned it in your bio, that you know what to look for on nutrition facts, labels, and supplement fax labels.
And when I look at your labels, I don't see anything that I don't wanna put in my body. Therefore it's easy for me to recommend it to my customers. So I appreciate you, uh, representing such a fantastic company. Tell us how you got started with Sun Warrior. Yeah,
Amie: so, uh, my father actually is one of the founders of Sun Warrior.
So, uh, being in, uh, the family that I grew up in and, uh, very conscious of health and nutrition, he's always had a passion for, uh, for healing. And, uh, really healing [00:04:00] comes from, from nature. Uh, when you look at a Sun Warrior label, you know that it's a hundred percent vegan. Uh, we never add any sugars. If, if there's any type of sweetener in the product, it's stevia.
Uh, if you see any, you know, vitamin or mineral on the nutritional or the supplement facts, you know, that is coming from a pure plant source. So nothing is ever synthetic. Um, we, we source everything from fruits, vegetables, herbs, adaptogenic mushrooms, uh, that's where all of our, our vitamins and minerals come from, or, or the actual plant-based.
Um, themselves, like in the proteins or, or, uh, uh, other supplements. So, uh, my, my father is very, very passionate about, uh, clean, very clean ingredients. So we source them from around the, around the world. Um, we, we try to get everything organic. Sometimes, um, some ingredients just are not available organic or, or we don't have a, uh, a sustainable source.
So, you know, they're organic, compliant on a few of the ingredients, but, um, mostly everything is organic. [00:05:00] and he actually, you know, okays or not okays any ingredient that, you know, that the r and d team brings to him. So, uh, there's some very strict, um, evaluations going on when it, when it comes into to formulating our products.
And, uh, I've, uh, you know, since the Warrior started there wasn't, uh, like Jared said, not a lot of plant-based protein options. So, uh, sun Warrior started, um, Uh, 15 years ago, uh, with a, with a brown rice protein, um, that was sprouted. And, uh, it was, it, it kind of, you know, uh, boomed. And, uh, there wasn't a lot of, you know, if you didn't want a whey protein, your options were soy, which we knew that probably wasn't a great option.
Um, there was a, uh, you know, a brown rice protein, but it wasn't sprouted. It wasn't, you know, very digestible. And the protein grounds were not. Very high, and I don't even think it was a complete protein. So, uh, sun Warrior really kind of opened the field for plant-based, uh, [00:06:00] proteins. And then we just, through the years, have included, you know, super greens and vitamins and minerals and different, uh, formulations and supplements.
So, A lot to offer now.
Jared: Well, and let's face it, Amy, the big challenge with plant-based protein is that frankly, they don't taste that good as a raw material, right? Yeah. Yes. Just rice protein, just pea protein. These are not delicious ingredients, and so then there's a lot of work going into making a protein powder.
That is not only great quality and doesn't have a bunch of crap in it, but also tastes good. And that's one of the things that I think is so unique about Sun Warrior, is that you don't skimp on quality, but you also don't skimp on taste. And interestingly, ship shifting quickly from protein to what I'm drinking right now.
I've got my blender bottle here and it has a, uh, scoop of the energy product that you first, uh, introduced me to. I don't know, I think it was some. October, November or something like that. Mm-hmm. of [00:07:00] last year and I started drinking it and thinking, first off, , I'll just be honest. When I saw what was in it, I was like, uh, this probably isn't gonna taste very good.
It's like, I mean, the first ingredients are fungus, right? I mean, there's mushroom Yeah. Mushroom in there. Yeah. You got organic mushroom blend as Cortis and reishi, and then the king trumpet mushroom, which I bet most people have never even heard of. Chiaki Lions Main, which is my favorite. And frankly, lions Main tastes quite pleasant on its own, but most of these other mushrooms, not so much Turkey tail organic maka, which also isn't delicious.
Uh, Ola, which actually has a pretty strong pungent flavor to it as well. Mm-hmm. , and yet, I mixed it up in just water. Didn't add any, you know, extra stuff to it to try and make it taste good. It was the watermelon flavor that I first tried, and it wasn't long after I tried it that I was calling you and [00:08:00] saying, I think I wanna get this stuff into my store.
I like it. Yeah. I really, really like it. And how did you
Amie: feel? That's the, that's the big question. Not only we want you to enjoy it, but how does it make you feel?
Jared: Right. Well, here's the thing. So. I always tell people that I'm not the, you know, quote unquote health guru or whatever that you want to call me, that says, avoid caffeine at all costs.
Um, I am also the guy that will say, avoid doing too much caffeine and probably avoid doing it every day. I really think that taking a couple or a few days off a week is a really good idea, uh, with caffeine. But if you're going to use caffeine, uh, using a clean source of caffeine is a big deal. Using it in balance with other things.
That help to kind of, uh, well, I guess the best word is balance, kind of balance out the impact of it, and that's, That's what we have here. It's amazing stuff. The caffeine in, uh, the product comes from uh, coffee berry extract. Uh, and then you've [00:09:00] got some antioxidant stuff and some nitric oxide stuff with the tart cherry fruit powder and the beet root powder.
And it's loaded with electrolytes from a combination of coconut water and real salt. So it's this really, really cool blend and it does feel really good. I was actually just talking to Jen. Who, uh, was, was, uh, down there at the last conference that you and I, uh, you know, met at, uh, back at, in St. George a couple of months ago, and she ha has been, uh, every day I'm gonna throw her under the bus here really quick.
Every day she wakes up, pops the top of a can, full of caffeine and drinks it. And when I met her it was mountain. So I got her off Mountain Dew . We moved away from there. That's a big step. got to some more natural options, but then not always natural and frankly, even the more natural ones. We're still loaded with crap that, you know, we didn't need in our bodies.
And I have [00:10:00] been guilty of drinking those things as well from time to time, especially if I'm out driving and I'm tired and need to keep my eyes open. But what is interesting is, so I literally just last week brought home a bottle of, um, the mango peach flavor of the, um, of the energy product, the Sun Warrior Energy, and I said, Just try this.
Just try this instead of these other ones. See how it goes. You've been telling me for months that you want to get off of those anyway. Uh, but I know you want that little lift of caffeine in the morning. Give it a shot. And she, one of the first things she told me, uh, this, that first day that she tried it was, this feels so much better than the other stuff I've tried.
She said I had to get used to the taste cuz it doesn't taste as sweet and as. You know, kind of refreshing, I guess. You know, those ones, especially the carbonated ones that, you know, some people love that carbonation on the tongue or whatever, but she loved how she felt. She felt way more [00:11:00] balanced throughout the day, and that's what I've noticed.
I take this stuff and I don't ever feel the comedown that is so typical of caffeinated products. And if you're out there and you're drinking, or you're drinking, uh, hopefully not soda, but maybe it's even a monster or a Red Bull or a, you know, pick your caffeine of choice. Over 90%, I think they say of American adults now start their morning with some sort of caffeine.
Mm-hmm. , um, If that's what you're doing and at noon or earlier, you're starting to feel like you're dragging again and you need another lift, you gotta try this stuff because it's way more even keeled, way more balanced, lasts so much longer and it's good for you, right? It's got great. That's the bonus. Yep.
Yes. It's not just empty energy, it's actually a really, really good combo. So I sound like a salesman for the company, but I just love the stuff. So you're hired
Amie: [00:12:00] Well, do we wanna start off with the energy? Should we chat? Let's start off with that real quick, because I mean, we've already, we've already discussed it. So, um, one of the things with, actually, we have a, a whole active line, um, which we launched a couple of years ago and it's been going really well. But one of the biggest things with the active.
Is, uh, we wanna reduce that oxidative stress. So how we do that and what oxidative stress, especially for, for, uh, real athletic, um, active people, you know? Yeah, you're asking a lot out of your body, but it can actually cause some stress, uh, for your organs and. And, uh, your body. So we wanna help provide the nutrients, uh, not only to keep, you know, your active lifestyle going, but reduce that oxidative stress.
So the biggest thing is that those antioxidants, so, um, again, that green coffee berry, it's full of antioxidants. Yes, it has the caffeine, but it's also got those antioxidants, which is why you get the energy, but you don't have that drop off a couple of hours later. It's, it's just a really even. , [00:13:00] um, you know, let down, and you don't even really notice that that drop off, like after you have maybe, you know, a Red Bull or Monster.
Uh, so. That's the huge thing there. And then also, uh, the hydration, uh, uh, portion, um, of this energy. So it, it has the coconut water as the base. Um, it also has the, the real salt and that's, you know, I don't know if I mentioned, but Sun Warrior's, a Utah company. and, uh, we love to use local when, when we can.
And so real salt is, uh, you know, out of, uh, the middle of Utah and there's these great salt mines and they're, they're beautiful. Have you ever been to visit the
Jared: salt mines? I'm so sad to say that I have not yet. I've been invited a couple times, I just haven't done it yet, but I love the real salt people.
The family is fantastic. Yes, the products are fantastic. I have the real onion salt, the real garlic salt, the real seasoned salt, the regular real salt. It's all in my kitchen. The, it's the best stuff out there. Absolutely, it is. So, I, it is it
Amie: on that? Yeah. And they don't, they don't add anything to it. They don't [00:14:00] remove anything to it or from it.
It's, it's just, it's got all the trace minerals in it. So, um, and again, hydration is huge. Um, not only, you know, yes for active people and athletes, but, but really everyone in, in general, Uh, we are probably not hydrating ourselves getting the minerals and, and that electrolyte balance. So, so those are the two, uh, big things with the energy product that that helps you not to, you know, have that drop down so you feel like you need another, another shot a couple of hours later,
Jared: um, which is bad for your sales.
By the way, the reason Red Bull sells so much is they gotta sell people three or four cans a. I
Amie: know, I know. It's, but we're about health and we're about longevity. So when you, you look at the, the whole mission of Sun Warrior is, is really to rejuvenate, um, not only your body, but also you know, the planet and, and everyone around us.
So, um, but I did want to also mention there's the b12, uh, in the energy formula as well, and it is the [00:15:00] methylcobalamin. So it is the most absorbable form, um, of b12. And you know, B12 is a water soluble vitamin, but it's so essential for cellular metabolism. Um, red, red blood cell synthesis. It also is, um, super important for your nerve and function.
And, uh, also the production of dna. A so the B12 is, is amazing. It can help, um, with stress, stress levels, but it also can help with energy levels too. So, uh, I, I love that we use the, the methylcobalamin and it is a 500% r d a, so it's a, it's a lot of b12. Now, not all of us absorb, uh, B12 at the same amounts.
So, um, with the amount that we have in here, you're, you're definitely going to be absorbing. Some of it, it also helps improve cognitive function, uh, as well. So, uh, and again, uh, helping with that oxidative stress is kind of, um, the, the whole goal of the active, uh, line. And then in addition, uh, to, [00:16:00] to what we already talked about, it also has that mushroom blend and it's.
it's called the Peak oh two Mushroom Blend, uh, which is a, um, an awesome company, but, and they've actually put a lot of, um, um, investment into studies, clinical studies. But the mushrooms, mushrooms are the most adaptogenic foods. Out there. So if you can include mushrooms into your diet in any way, uh, please, please do.
Uh, so the, the blend of mushrooms is the cor decept, the rishi, the king tret, uh, the shiitake, the lions main and the Turkey tale, uh, and the benefits. Of this particular group and blend of mushrooms. And it is, like I said, the peak oh two, uh, brand of mushrooms. Um, it, it helps to adapt and overcome physical and mental stress.
Uh, it helps to increase your power and endurance. So, um, the energy, you know, it's actually like a pre-workout. We didn't name it pre-workout cuz we don't want people to feel. , you've gotta use it. That's the only time you can use it, is before you go to the gym. But it's an amazing, [00:17:00] uh, pre-workout cause it does, um, help to give you a little bit more endurance, uh, while you're working out.
And then the clinical studies have shown, um, that it increases the duration of energy. And extends the time until exhaustion when you're working out. So you get that little extra oomph, uh, while you're, you know, doing the thing you love to do, whether it's at the gym or, you know, running or whatever it is.
Um, it also helps to maximize power input, or excuse me, power output and, um, provides that anaerobic. Peak power, uh, it increases the oxygen utilization, which that's gonna be helpful for recovery, uh, afterwards. And just overall increases your exercise, uh, capacity. So it is, uh, amazing as a pre-workout. Or like Jared was saying, you know, if you just need that extra energy, maybe when you get up in the morning or even.
that mid-afternoon or if you're, you know, driving long or, or whatever. Uh, the, you're also getting all of these, um, amazing benefits. Not only just the energy and then, [00:18:00] um, as it is a designed, as a pre-workout and, um, active lifestyle. It also has the nitric oxide blend. So you're getting the bee root powder, um, which.
Speed root, it just increases the vasodilation of the blood flow. So that's going to give you, um, that, um, muscle contraction. So again, more output while you're, while you're working out, but also increases the, the recovery, enhances the recovery, uh, time as well. And then, um, it's also got the organic cart cherry, so that's rich in antioxidants, you know, helping reduce that oxidative stress and again, increases the, the recovery, uh, for your muscles.
And it also helps to reduce the muscle breakdown. Uh, so. So, uh, that in all is the, is the energy, um, formula. And we've got, like Jared mentioned, several flavors. We've got the watermelon wave, um, which has been very popular. Uh, the Mango Lemonade, which is my personal favorite. Uh, and then our two new flavors that we just launched, uh, at [00:19:00] the end of last year is the peachy mango and the strawberry, uh, strawberry lemonade.
Jared: All of 'em are delicious. I've tried three of them so far. Uh, and the only one I haven't tried is your favorite. So that's . We need to get
Amie: you a
Jared: tough enough. Yeah, I haven't tried that yet, but we do have it and I will definitely try it. I've, uh, I tried the other ones. I was saying before we in, before we started the recording, that the strawberry lemonade, which is not.
Always like an appealing flavor to me. I don't know, it's just, it's sort of on lower, on the list of the four flavors you have. It's the one that I would've assumed I would like the least. Mm-hmm. might be my favorite. I really like, it's the best. It's, it's tough to say because the peach mango is super good too.
Um, so I don't know. But, uh, the cool thing is you got some variety. You don't have to be stuck with one flavor all the time necessarily either. But there's a couple of things that I wanna bring up that I think are really important. First off, I talked to, Our mutual friend Richard Passwater about BioSil, which is another brand that is represented by, uh, you know, by your company.
And he [00:20:00] was talking about the four things you can do to prevent the breakdown of collagen. And one of the biggest things he mentioned was oxidative stress and how building, getting antioxidants in is such a big deal to prevent collagen, uh, wasting in the body, basically. Mm-hmm. because as we are, and, and, and it's important I think to underst.
Oxidative stress, I think is something that unfortunately most of us haven't been educated that well on, but there's a couple of aspects to it that I think we should touch on because what I, what was so exciting to me about this formula before I tasted it and before I felt it, because the first thing I always do is flip it around and look at the ingredients, right.
Mm-hmm. same as you. And probably same as a high percentage of people listening to this show. Uh, and I'm looking at the ingredients and I'm thinking, okay, yeah, I want that in my body. I want that in my body. That would get go really good. And this one fits really, really well too. And, and it wasn't just, oh, I'm gonna get some energy.
It was, I'm gonna get some real nutrition and some deep cellular benefit [00:21:00] from all these mushrooms. and one thing that people don't think about, and I hadn't really thought about to be honest with you, Amy, until just several weeks ago when I was, uh, doing a little bit of research on mushroom. I realized how incredible they are as a prebiotic.
Uh, these mushrooms are fantastic for helping us build our microbiome. There's nobody within earshot of my voice that hasn't heard me beat that drum a thousand times. Mm-hmm. about the critical importance of the microbiome. And so what you're really getting with this product is this cool combination of antioxidants, hydration.
um, all of the stuff you said about the mushrooms, but also this amazing prebiotic power there, and you just happen to get a little energy lift from that caffeine of B12 as well. So it's just such a cool form. I, I love it. I really, really do. I was sure that there was gonna be something wrong with it when I tasted it.
That was my concern. , that's like,
Amie: what does it have in here? Because it's
Jared: [00:22:00] so, Yeah, this isn't gonna taste good. When I looked at the ingredients and, and the, and the thing is, I will say really, like if you are accustomed to, uh, you know, I don't know, coffee with your creamer and all that stuff, or you're accustomed to the, the Red Bulls or the rock stars or whatever.
It's different than that for sure. It's got a little urbanness to it. Um, I don't know how to describe it, but when you grow up in a health food store, you know what I, you know what I mean? If you grew up in a health food store like I did, um, but it's good. Like, I really like it. I don't have to acc accentuate it with anything else, uh, to make it taste good.
And it, it works really, really well. So, yeah, I could talk for an hour about that, but we do have to get onto some other things. Um, so let's move to the hydration. Uh, product that you have. Uh, okay. It's also in the active line. Yes. And let's make sure that people can kind of differentiate, you know, why they might want this versus the energy, or why they might want the energy versus this, or if they can be used together in, [00:23:00] in certain circumstances.
Amie: Yes, yes. So, uh, the hydration, kind of like I mentioned before, being hydrated is, is so important. Not only just for an active lifestyle, but, but really all of us. And we look at some of those hydration drinks out on the market that we've known for years and really, um, they're, most of them are very high in sugar, uh, actually even the colors and, and all the artificial stuff.
But, but really they've got, they've got the potassium and the sod. and, and really they're completely out of balance for what our body needs. You know, if you look back to see, you know, why, why, you know when Gatorade kind of first came around, it was, it was for athletes that were in extreme heat and they were putting forth tremendous effort.
And yes, they did need those large amounts of sodium and potassium for that particular situ. . But the problem is those drinks have been almost become like water, uh, especially for our kids and our younger athletes. And, you know, people drink a Gatorade instead of [00:24:00] water and feel like they're, they're getting hydration, but it's, it's completely out of balance and it's really high in sugars, um, as well.
So, hydration formulas, hydration formula is an excellent. Uh, option to, uh, to some of these other sports strengths. But, um, I did want to mention that if you are someone that is wanting, uh, you love that energy flavor, or excuse me, that energy product that we just talked about, but you have, um, you know, a sensitivity to the caffeine from the green coffee berry.
This hydration might be a good option for you because this does have the B12 in it as well. It is the 500, um, uh, micrograms. So it is that large amount of b12. It's the same source that methylcobalamin, so you are going to get some energy from this hydration. Um, we, we call it hydration, but it's actually hydration, energy, and immune support, uh, with all of the nutrients, uh, in, in this formula.
Um, uh, again, it's got the coconut water as, [00:25:00] as the base and just a teeny bit on hydration. I mean, it's, you know, every cell, every tissue, every organ in our body. You talked about the microbiome and how that completely affects our thought process. It, you know, it, it really affects all of our, all of our body systems.
But hydration I is huge in helping. That, that microbiome. So, um, it's important for, you know, our immune support, our joints, our movement, um, you know, some of our, our internal organs such as our kidneys, liver, uh, it helps us sleep good. It improves our mood when you're hydrated. So there's, there's a lot of our, our, uh, body bodily symptoms, our systems that, that really need to be hydrated on a daily basis.
So if you are active and you're sweating, or, or maybe you, you know, work outside, For your job, if you're sweating, you know, we're sweating out minerals really. So we really need to, uh, replenish those with, with the, um, with the hydration. So, Uh, we talked about, so it's [00:26:00] got the, the organic coconut water, and then, um, uh, we also have the chelated mineral salts.
So again, um, this is hydro 4g. It is a, a proprietary blend, but it is, uh, the chelated mineral salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, and calcium. So, , those are the, the main minerals that are going to help hydrate us. Um, obviously the coconut water has all the trace minerals in, it's very high in antioxidants.
Um, it, it is, um, also contains, um, amino acids and enzymes along with fatty acids and fibers. So that organic coconut water is really a, a hydrating thing in itself. But then to add in these chelated mineral salts, um, is really beneficial. to help balance those pH levels. Um, and also, you know, when, when we're properly hydrated that is this in, you know, our enzyme production, our hormonal production, um, it, it's just so essential for, for all of our, our bodily uh, systems, [00:27:00] again, our immune system.
Um, we also have the, the real salt, uh, here in the hydration as well. So we talked about, you know, the. All of the, the trace minerals in the real, real salt, again, all of them are just naturally occurring. Um, and then we also have this antioxidant or immune blend, uh, here in the hydration formula. So, uh, we've got the organic omelet that is our source of vitamin C.
Uh, amla is, um, another name for Amla is the Indian Gooseberry, but, um, it's, it's, uh, very high in, uh, vitamin C, but also very high in antioxidants. So again, when we're talking about that oxidative stress and we're talking about the. Uh, the essential need for those antioxidants. Uh, the, the omelet is a, is a great source for that.
They, uh, they, you know, tested it and it's about 10 to 20 times higher in vitamin C than oranges are. So it's an excellent, um, source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is also, um, a, a co-factor in, in collagen building as well. [00:28:00] And we're gonna dive a little deeper into vitamin C because, uh, we've, uh, we've got another formula that's just vitamin C.
But, uh, in addition to the vitamin C, we also have the organic elderberry. So again, uh, very high in antioxidants. Uh, and it actually, uh, elderberry helps to balance the, uh, the inflammation response in our, in our body. So again, this goes right along with, um, that active lifestyle. Restoring and recovering, uh, after, after we're done.
Um, you know, working out or, or, you know, athletes and things of that nature. So, um, it also can help increase the nitro oxide, uh, production as well. So again, if you're, if you're not loving the, uh, organic green coffee berry in the energy formula, this hydration formula would be a, a good option, uh, for you.
This is a really great, um, for kids. You know, we've got a lot of youth that are very active in, you know, different sports and, and things of that nature. I, I give this to my kids, [00:29:00] I mix it up in a, you know, a, a shaker cup and that's what we take to the games and practices and, and things like that to really give them, um, good hydration.
Uh, this is a, this is a great thing too. Um, you know, middle of the day when you're, you know, you're wanting a little something. Maybe we've been drinking water all day and you want a little something else, um, that's going to taste great because we've got the coconut barrier, the strawberry lemon twist as the flavors.
But, um, you're also going to be hydrating, uh, yourself and, and, um, you know, giving your body some nutrition as well. Uh, it also has the sun fiber. So that is from, uh, GU and, uh, again, that prebiotic. , uh, helps to improve digestion, uh, and assimilation. It's great for that microbiome like we we talked about
Jared: before.
All right, so there's a few things about this that I think are, are really important that I wanna highlight, uh, that, uh, that you mentioned and wanna make sure everybody, uh, really gets a feel for this. Because one of the things that I do, maybe the thing I do most on [00:30:00] Vitality radio is try and help anyone listening to become a more informed and educated consumer so that they can.
Excellent choices for them and their fam families, uh, as opposed to choices based on whoever does the best marketing . And uh, unfortunately it's a lot of choices being made like that. So as much as we can educate, I like to do. So. Let's talk about a couple things in a little bit more depth here that I think are pretty important.
First off, Um, this product, uh, well, both of the products, it's important to remember that Sun Warrior is all about clean. So no artificial, uh, flavors or sweeteners, none of that stuff. They're sweetened with Stevia. Uh, the flavorings are organic. Uh, the citric acid that they use in it is organic. And then this is really important.
I wanna make sure that you're listening to. Closely, because I get this question a lot on Instagram and other places on the back of this package. I'm looking at it right now. There are four different products that are in here that have [00:31:00] registered trademarks. Uh, one is real salt. Uh, so they're not just adding salt, they're adding a salt that we know is clean, pure, wholesome has all.
Attributes that we want. And then you've got the elder mune. It's not just an elderberry extract, but it's a clinically proven elderberry juice concentrate that's in there. And that's really, really important as well, because we know that you're not just sprinkling in some elderberry powder, but you're actually putting something in there that is a 65 to one extract.
I actually, honestly, Amy, before I started looking at. , I, I have the product at my store and I've looked at it, but I had sort of glanced over the fact that it was the elder immune that you use. Um, and I had just, it wasn't that long ago, maybe six months ago, I was talking to somebody about elder, uh, elder immune and, uh, studies that have been done and the fact that it is a 65 x concentrate.
So a hundred milligrams is a lot of elderberries represented there. Yes. Uh, so for the immune, uh, support and all the other reasons that you mention it, it's [00:32:00] great. The vitamin C. A hundred percent from Amla. So it's a whole food source as you mentioned. But then the, the other trademark things are important too.
And the reason these trademarks are important, sometimes they're. Frankly not. There are some trademarked products that I think are pretty whole hum. Uh, nothing super exciting, great marketing. They sound really good, but eh, you know, maybe they're not that special. But sun fiber is awesome. The research on sun fiber is very, very cool as a prebiotic.
Um, it is fantastic. Uh, the research on the Elder Mu I already mentioned, and then I have not read the research on the Hydra 4g. Uh, but it makes sense that having these all in chelated forms, Should I talk about a lot is a big deal. If you're going to absorb your minerals and you're truly gonna get hydrated with the minerals, having them in a form that is more body ready makes all kinds of sense.
So these products are really, really well thought out. It's not just, uh, you know, a few milligrams of sodium and a few milligrams [00:33:00] of potassium and a few milligrams of magnesium. They're all really. Sourced intelligently in my opinion, and also, uh, put together as a formula very, very intelligently where I look at the back of the label and I say, , this looks great.
I don't see it and say, geez, why did they do that? Or why didn't they? Mm-hmm. , I don't feel like I have to compromise. Mm-hmm. , and I don't, I mean, you're here with me on the show. I'm looking you in the eyes as we're having this conversation. And, uh, so it's always, it, it could feel a little bit like schmoozing, but I'm telling you, I love your formulas.
They're so cool. I'm, I'm kind of sad that I didn't jump on board sooner, uh, and bring stuff in. It's in now. And, uh, very, very cool stuff.
Amie: Thank you. Thank you. And I'm glad that you did mention, uh, some of those, uh, trademark brands because, you know, some warriors actually in the last probably, you know, three-ish years, uh, really, uh, inve or, or really, you know, did a lot of research to see which, which of [00:34:00] these trademark brands are really what they say they are.
And kind of like you said, we, we wanna get potent ingredients that you're gonna notice a difference and. , you know, sometimes you look at the back of the label and it, it has a whole list of ingredients. But again, we got a sprinkle of this and a sprinkle of that and, you know, you're really not noticing. So I personally would rather choose a product for myself that, you know, maybe it doesn't have, you know, the, the whole kitchen sink in there, but, but it's got the ingredients that you need for, you know, for your goals and you're getting enough of each one to actually make a difference and, and, um, see.
Jared: Yeah, for sure. And, and it is, it, it really is important. The sourcing is huge. There's stuff you can get from anywhere. Now the natural products industry is loaded. . Yes. With companies making raw materials and not all raw materials are anywhere close to equal, and so doing the research and actually proving that you've got a product that really works is, is important [00:35:00] at.
Doses that are actually efficacious. Um, that's a big deal for, for me, for sure. So with the hydration blend too, let's, two more things I wanna mention. So, if you're a soccer mom, we'll say, right? Okay. Um, I was a soccer coach, uh, even though I didn't know anything, the difference between a soccer goal and a basketball hoop at the time, uh, I, I had never been on a soccer field in my life.
And then my kids wanted to play soccer and the sweet lady at the city said, , Jared, we really need a coach for your kid's team. And I said, I don't know anything about soccer. And she said, they're seven. They don't know anything about soccer either. , here's a booklet, learn how to coach. Right? So I signed up, found out that I love soccer.
Like it's the coolest sport. Nice. I did, I had no idea. In fact, it was next, the next year that Rial Salt Lake, the, uh, major League Soccer club hired me as their supplement guy. And that was the year that Rial Salt Lake won the championship. So I [00:36:00] think it's a hundred percent because of me, but I don't know.
Maybe, maybe the athletes, Hey, I would take credit . Maybe the athletes had something to do with it. Maybe, but, uh, they never won after I stopped working for 'em. So. Whoa. Wow. But what was cool is I suddenly became this big soccer fan, but as such, then I also started to see what soccer players. due to their bodies.
Man, it is an intense sport, right? These professional athletes. And the first thing I told them, because they asked me, they said, our number one concern isn't performance. Our number one concern is prevention of injury. Mm-hmm. , because we have way too many guys going down. Our best players aren't on the pitch all the time.
We gotta figure that out. And I said, well, talk to me about the injuries. And it was all strains, pulse, uh yep. Tears. And I said, These guys aren't properly hydrated. Yeah. Their tissues can't flex and bend and do the things that they need to do. Uh, and that fast twitch muscle that they're using constantly, uh, is just too much for their ligaments and [00:37:00] tendons.
So the first thing I had 'em do, and of course this product wasn't, well, yeah, it wasn't around. No. Uh, but I first had 'em do. a very, uh, precise, uh, what's the word? Uh, dosage of electrolytes. Like really electrolytes, right? Not just mm-hmm. , sodium and potassium. Yes. Because I asked him, what are you guys doing?
Well, we drink Gatorade. I said, Gatorade, there's, that's part of your problem. Right? ? And I mean, sure it worked for Michael Jordan in theory. Right. But, uh, what was he really drinking? Right, right. Right. What was in that Gatorade cup? Probably not Gatorade. But anyway, uh, we talked about that and, and I started diving in a little deeper.
And what I, I really believe, Amy, I don't know if you've thought much about this. I'm, I imagine you probably have, cuz I know you're a pretty, pretty competitive athlete yourself, but I think that a high percent of, of. Percentage of injury, particularly with these elite level athletes where they've got, you know, real low body fat percentages, tons of muscle and tons of power.[00:38:00]
You see a football player make a cut, not get hit, and is a c l is gone, goes down. Yes. Yeah, I'll always remember. This, this guy first pick in the draft, second pick in the draft. I can't remember. He was really high. Kaja Carter from the Cincinnati, Cincinnati Bengals. If anybody out there listening as a football fan in preseason, I believe it was of his rookie year, this guy was supposed to be the next, you know, Barry Sanders or whatever, and he made a move, blew out both acls.
Wow. With n nobody touching him. And I. Sparked my interest in how can someone in that kind of shape get hurt that easily. And I started researching it. And I really believe that magnesium in particular was super deficient in these guys cuz they're stressing their bodies to
Amie: the, oh, you burn through magnesium like crazy.
Especially if you're an athlete.
Jared: and the oxidative stress is insane, right? Mm-hmm. with what they're doing. Mm-hmm. and the recovery and the travel [00:39:00] and all the other stuff these guys do. So I started digging into that and then it wasn't again a couple years later or whatever that I started working with throughout Salt Lake and I said, this is what you've gotta do.
And the one of the best things that I heard from the athletes is they felt like their recovery was dramatically improved just by getting adequate levels, cuz they were drinking plenty of water. Mm-hmm , what they weren't getting is the hydration from the water cuz they were so lean. on the electrolytes, right?
Yes. So anyway, sort of going off on a tangent there, but the, but what I think is so cool about this product, if you are a soccer mom or a soccer dad and you're running your kids around and, or you've got a swimmer, right? Or you've got a basketball player, a football player, or a runner or whatever, heck, I've got a ballet dancer, and this would apply to her as well.
Yes. . So whatever type of athletics they're doing, whether it's, uh, considered a sport or not a sport or whatever, if they're taxing their little bodies and they're walking away at the end of the game with a Gatorade that one of the moms brought, you can do better [00:40:00] and you owe it to yourself a hundred percent and to your children to do better.
And here's the thing, a bottle of Gatorade's gonna cost you. What? A buck, buck and a half. I don. Two bucks. I don't know if it's Gatorade costs. This stuff's about a dollar a serving, and it is infinitely better than anything you're gonna get in a Powerade or a Gatorade, and you're not putting any poison into your kids.
And that is crucial. And also if you're just looking for just overall support of your body, just. Getting up and down the stairs and doing the laundry and going to work and shoveling the walk or whatever else you're doing. We all need adequate hydration and this is a fantastic option for that.
Amie: It is.
Thank you. And I, I actually wanna talk about the liquid light, if you don't mind, um, sniffing around a bit. Is that okay? Because we're talking about hydration and, um, the liquid light is, you know, it's been around for maybe about 12 years as we've, this is, um, one of the first probably few products that Sun Warrior came out with.
Minerals. We, as, as a society, we [00:41:00] are, we are deficient on minerals and, um, the liquid light is just a trace mineral, and I shouldn't say just a trace mineral, but it, it's just, it's trace minerals. We don't add anything to it, so we don't add any flavoring. Um, it's a fulvic acid based mineral. So, so what that is, is when.
Uh, and, and they're completely plant-based. So it is different than a rock, uh, based mineral. Uh, these are plant sourced minerals. So in the soil you have your humic acid, and as the photosynthesis, uh, process takes place, uh, just naturally in that plant, that humic acid is converted into fulvic acid. . And what fulvic acid does is it actually attaches itself to whatever nutrients, uh, are in that plant.
So in this case, it is the minerals. So you're getting your trace minerals with that fulvic acid, um, just kind of almost naturally chelated to it. Um, but what that does for our bodies is, um, like I said, trace minerals are, were mineral [00:42:00] deficient. As, as a, as a whole, uh, probably around the world, but I, you know, just talking, uh, America here, but.
there's so many things that, that we, um, interaction, uh, every day that burns through our minerals. So whether, whether we're super stressed, whether we're not getting our sleep, whether our immune system is down, whether we're very active and we're sweating out all of our, uh, all of our electrolytes. So whatever we're doing, we are burning through those minerals, so we have to replace it.
And water alone. Is not replacing the minerals. When, when you are, um, when you have the correct amount of minerals and you're getting that hydration, it affects, uh, our assimilation not only in our supplements, but the foods that we're eating. Um, help our, our assimilated better when we, when we're getting our minerals.
So the liquid light, um, having, um, the plant-based minerals along with that fulvic acid. Uh, what that does is it, it enables the fulvic acid kind of breaks through that cellular. and helps those minerals be absorbed at a [00:43:00] cellular level. So, um, I know you read kind of my bio and I I do triathlete or triathlons and I, I was originally a runner and it was just, it's a lot of taxing for all the, all the running that I was doing.
So I started triathlons, uh, cause I gotta, you know, had to mix it up a little bit, but, , you know, again, that recovery and, you know, you're, you're doing like say an Olympic triathlon and you're, you know, swimming to the bike, to the run. And I started, um, adding the minerals to my water. Um, not only as I was training, but on race day, uh, that went in my, you know, big, um, like two ounces of the liquid light went into my, my.
Or my, my bike, um, water cup. Mm-hmm. . And the, the amount, not only the recovery, but I am just telling you, the extra endurance that I had from adding the minerals was, uh, unquestionable. What I, the, I just noticed such a difference in my times and. And my recovery times and, and everything. But, um, it, it really made a huge difference.
[00:44:00] So it, I mean, I already, you know, the way I was raised, I already knew, you know, minerals were super important. But I, um, I, my, all of my kids are active. My daughter was a dancer. Any type of dance she did, my, my son's both football. My youngest is football, uh, baseball. But that, that liquid light is, is part of our every.
Uh, ritual at our house. So, um, it's an ounce a day and, um, you just can shoot it by itself or you can, you know, mix it in something. Uh, like I said, we don't flavor it with anything, so it kind of has a tart of vinegar ish. Flavor to it, but, um, just the, the, uh, difference in how you feel. Um, having the liquid light, I've, I've, uh, trained a lot of people and, you know, they, they wanna start working out and, you know, you feel so good once you've started working out and you start on this exercise of your team and then maybe a month or two into it, all of a sudden, like your energy levels have dropped, you're just, you're not sleeping as well, you know, you're just not feeling as good as when you first, you know, started that [00:45:00] workout program.
And my first question is, are you, are you mineralizing yourself because mm-hmm. , if you do not replace those minerals that you're now starting to burn, um, you, you, you're gonna crash. You know? So y we don't need caffeine to help us feel better. We, we need to actually, uh, give our body the nutrition that needs and minerals are, are
Jared: the.
So, absolutely. And if you've, uh, you know, someone who listens to this show, there's a decent chance. Years ago, you may have heard of a guy named Joel Wallick. Uh, he did a, a big famous speech called Dead Doctors, don't Lie. Mm-hmm. . And he talked all about the critical nature of minerals and how our soil has been depleted of minerals and our water sources are depleted of minerals and so on.
And he wasn't wrong, uh, by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I think he was dead on and, um, , if you've heard of, if you've heard of that, dead Doctors don't lie. First off, if you haven't heard it, look it up. You can find it online. Uh, and it's a fascinating speech. Mm-hmm. , but [00:46:00] it would 100% apply to this liquid light, except I will say that I think you guys have even done it better.
Uh, what you taught me that I didn't know Amy, just a couple months ago, is that yours is a true. Plant source as opposed to a shale source. Mm-hmm. , there's basically three sources of minerals that are like high concentration minerals out there, uh, in supplements. There's the great Salt Lake right here in Utah.
Mm-hmm. companies like trace minerals and uh, elite drops. And some of these guys are, you know, pulling their minerals out of there. Uh, there are. People like real salt also in Utah that are, you know, a great source of minerals as well. And real salt is believed to be, uh, mined from what used to be an, uh, an ocean, essentially.
Mm-hmm. . Uh, so except that now that's, you know, crystallized into salt, right? And it's, it's dry. And then you've got these shale beds, which mostly. or in southeastern Utah. . Yep. So Utah's loaded with minerals. Um, and it's interesting cuz the shale beds, so it's basically petrified, [00:47:00] uh, plant matter, I guess you could say, right?
Mm-hmm. , uh, that's been, you know, made over the last, you know, millennia or whatever. And I've always wondered about the biovail. Of the shale beds and, and frankly haven't known, you know, is that the best source or not? And it's always been a little bit of a question mark for me. And when you told me that you're actually using, um, non fossilized plants essentially, uh, to make liquid light, that was what actually piqued my interest and said, I gotta not only bring that into my shop, but I gotta try it.
And now you're reminding me that I haven't tried it yet. So I'm gonna bring a bottle home tonight and I'll report back to you listening. But, uh, I know people are gonna ask me this question. A lot of people on our Facebook, uh, vitality radio listeners community on Instagram are reaching out to me and saying, um, I'm, you know, what's the best source of water?
I'm purifying my water. I'm distilling it, or I'm buying it distilled, or I'm [00:48:00] doing reverse osmosis, or I'm putting it through a, uh, you know, some sort of a filtration system, but I'm worried that I'm losing my minerals and. What do I do to remineralize my water? So let me ask you this cuz I haven't actually tasted the liquid light.
This will, my first time will be after you've heard this show. Um, but I'm curious if you're drinking, you know, eight glasses of water a day or whatever, I typically recommend at least an ounce for every two pounds of body weight. Um, so let's say you're drinking 80 ounces of water a day or something around that, and you want.
Uh, an ounce of the liquid light. Uh, it's putting it, putting a splash of that in every glass of water. How much is it gonna impact the flavor of your water?
Amie: It, it does impact the flavor of the water. I, I personally either just drink it, uh, the ounce all by itself. Um, or I'd love to put it in my greens. I'm.
I'm a, I'm a big greens girl, so greens and minerals I think are probably the, the two most things that we, um, that, that we don't get enough of. Uh, but I, I'll do it either of those two [00:49:00] ways and depending on, you know, my workload and my stress levels or my activity levels, um, sometimes I'll do it both ways, you know, in, in the same day.
So I'll, I'll do some in the morning and then I'll do some in the afternoon when I do migraines. So, um, if you're, you. , I, uh, I don't like to ruin my water. I, I love the fresh, clean taste of water, , . Um, and I drink the re we have reverse osmosis at our house and, and Uhhuh , that's what we use. But, but again, I, I do think that we're not getting the minerals that we need, um, in, in our water supply.
So, um, I, I don't mix it in with my water. I like to just shoot it straight and, um, and be done with it. Okay. But you can, you can mix it in your protein shake if it, you know, if you're mixing in, in a another, you know, stronger flavor, uh, drink. It's not going to ruin it. It's not that strong. Um, but if it's just plain water, you, you will, it, it kind of ruin.
It'll
Jared: impact. Yeah. Okay. Well, I'm gonna, I think what I'll do is I'll start throwing a, an [00:50:00] ounce of it in my, uh, energy in the morning. Yeah. Uh, my energy powder or, uh, and then this is another thing I'm just gonna tell you. I, some of these shows are funny because, , it shines a light on the stuff that I could be doing better too, right?
Like I'm out here supposedly teaching all these people, all these things, . But then I love this show cuz it Remi, it reminds me that I need to listen to my
Amie: own. Of course. Yeah. Preaching we learn every day, right?
Jared: Yeah. And so one of the things I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do this starting today. So actually by the time this show airs, I will have done this for a week or so.
Okay? Uh, and, and I'll report, I'll report on, uh, in the Facebook listeners community. I'll report on a future show. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do my energy in the morning. I, what I try to do is do the energy, um, five days a week, take two days off, uh, kind of take a break on the, on the weekends from the caffeine, that kind of thing.
But on those other five days, Monday through Friday, I'll be doing my energy. I'll throw the. liquid light in there. We'll test that out and see how that goes. But then later in the day, I'm gonna hit a do a shot of this [00:51:00] hydration formula, um, as a non-caffeinated still, you know, building up the cellular energy and improving my hydration and doing all the other things that we talked about.
We'll do a shot of each, every day of all three, and. I'll report. I wanna hear. Yeah, I do. I do, I do, because I'm excited about this because I actually have not been doing a fulvic acid or trace mineral for a while. I've, um, I've, I do electrolytes every day, but I'm gonna swap out what I've been doing for what you've got and, uh, we'll give it a, we'll give it a whirl.
Yeah.
Amie: Yeah. Give it a try. I'm, I'm interested to know. It's, it's amazing too when people even, you know, muscle cramp. it, it's crazy how e even people are like, oh, I can't sleep at night. I can't fall asleep. Or maybe people, um, you know, feel tired or, you know, whatever the, the situation when we balance our, those electrolytes and the minerals, it just, it, it just balances everything else.
So sometimes, you know, you've got, you know, somebody with, you know, issues on both ends of the spectrums, but when, when they mineralize [00:52:00] themselves within, and really with this fulvic acid, it, it absorbs so much, uh, better that in, in a short amount of time, they're, they're noticing.
Jared: So, okay, so we are running very close on time.
Okay. I wanna ask you one more quick question. Um, fulvic acid as, uh, uh, an aid in detoxification. What can you tell us about that? Yeah, that's,
Amie: I'm glad you asked. So it, it actually helps to remove heavy metals from our system as well. So it actually. Not only helps increase the absorption of the minerals that it's chelated with, but it also helps remove, uh, the heavy metals, uh, and, and toxins from our at, at the cellular level.
So, awesome. Very awesome. Very good Detoxifier.
Jared: All right, so here's the deal. We've run out of time. I could talk to you for another hour at least. Um, and I just may have to have you back on, uh, for a second episode here in the future. I would love to do that. But, uh, when you're checking out Sun Warrior with Vitality, you can go to online vitality nutrition.com.
If you type in Sun Warrior, [00:53:00] you'll see the. Brand and, and all the different things that we care. We've. talked, talked about your protein, active protein for about five seconds at the beginning of the show. Yeah, if you're looking for a good plant protein that tastes good and is really, really responsibly sourced, um, you know, check that out as well.
They're all there, uh, on the website and of course, they're all there in store at Vitality, nutrition, and bountiful as well. And I would challenge, uh, anybody that wants to join me on this little, uh, trip, uh, down Sun Warrior Lane, uh, try the liquid light, try the electrolyte, try the energy. I may even put together some sort of a little package or something, uh, for people, cuz I think this is actually pretty exciting.
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm pretty pumped up about giving it a shot. I love to experiment with my supplements anyway, so Yeah. That's great. This will be fun. All right, Amy, it's been an [00:54:00] absolute pleasure. We are out of time, but we'll get you back on again. We'll talk about some more fun stuff and, uh, uh, reminisce about my experience with, uh, testing out all the new products.
