We begin in the Middle East where the war between the US, Israel and Iran is entering its third week with no end in sight. American officials say they've degraded Iran's military capabilities dramatically ... claiming strikes have reduced the country's missile capacity by 90 percent and drone ability by 95 percent. But Tehran is pushing back hard. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says his country remains stable and strong, telling CBS News they've never asked for a ceasefire and won't negotiate. The conflict has choked off the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, sending oil prices spiking and threatening everything from gas pumps to airline tickets. At least 13 American service members have died so far. President Trump is now calling on world powers to help reopen that vital waterway, though Russia and China have been speaking with Iran ... complicating diplomatic efforts.[1][2]

...

Shifting to the global energy crisis. The International Energy Agency is now releasing oil from emergency stockpiles at an unprecedented scale to try to stabilize markets. A record 400 million barrels are being deployed, with supplies heading immediately to Asia where buyers are desperate to replace fuel lost to the Middle East disruptions. The speed at which this oil hits the market will be crucial in determining whether prices actually come down.[1]

In the humanitarian sphere, there's grim news from the US immigration system. An Afghan immigrant who worked alongside American forces has died in federal custody in Texas. Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal, a 41-year-old father of six, was arrested outside his apartment on March 13th while taking his children to school. He died the very next day ... less than 24 hours after being detained. He's the 12th person to die in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody since the start of this year under President Trump's aggressive deportation crackdown. Last year saw 31 ICE deaths ... a 20-year high.[1]

...

Now to the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Israel says it will partially reopen the Rafah crossing with Egypt this Wednesday for limited movement of people. The crossing is Gaza's only gateway to the outside world that doesn't pass through Israel. It had been shut down when the joint American and Israeli operation against Iran launched.[1]

...

And finally, a powerful weather system is barreling across North America. A massive storm is pounding the Midwest and racing toward the East Coast, putting more than 100 million Americans on alert for severe weather. The system is already wreaking havoc at major airports ... with Atlanta's Hartsfield experiencing significant cancellations and delays. Those problems are being compounded by a partial government shutdown that's left hundreds of TSA agents working without pay.[2]
