I mean, let's just say I know a thing or 2 about benefits. Right?

JT:

So JT, let's break down some of these awesome benefits DHL offers.

JT:

The DHL benefits program has a lot to offer, including great health care choices for you and your family, like medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision. On today's show, we're gonna talk about how you can get the most out of your benefits.

DJ:

But JT, DHL benefits are about so much more than just health care.

JT:

So true. So true, DJ. And you also have tax saving opportunities with a health savings account and flexible spending accounts.

DJ:

And then there are financial protection benefits like life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment known as AD and D, and disability. And don't forget about all the programs and resources to support your health and well-being. Frankly, all this great stuff, JT, can feel a little bit overwhelming.

JT:

That's right. And, you know, usually, the first thing people think about when they think about benefits is medical, and it is one of the most important benefits for most people.

DJ:

Mhmm.

JT:

And DHL offers 3 great DHL well options through UnitedHealthcare. You can choose the choice plan or the select plan. And if you're full time, you can also opt for the premium plan. Now they all work in a similar way. They're just 3 options on how to manage your healthcare dollars.

DJ:

That's right. They all offer you the flexibility to use in network or out of network providers. But remember, the highest benefits are always in network. And in all the plans, once you meet your deductible, DHL shares the cost of care with you through co pays or coinsurance.

JT:

Well, all these plans sound great. So you're the benefits expert, the self proclaimed benefits expert. How do you know which plan to choose, DJ? Tell

DJ:

me that. That's a great question. There are 2 key things that you really need to think about. The first is how much you pay out of each paycheck to have coverage. Those are called your premiums.

DJ:

And then the other factor is the share of cost you pay when you actually use the plan. That's your deductible, co pays, and coinsurance.

JT:

Mhmm.

DJ:

So what you wanna do is take a look at those two things and try to find the right balance for you and your family. That's gonna help you choose the best plan.

JT:

Plus, there's another factor that could influence which plan you choose, and that's the savings gym known as the health savings account or HSA. And on this show, we're big HSA guys.

DJ:

Boy, we really are. We really are. Yeah. So now remember, this tax advantage HSA only comes with the DHL well choice plan. And because of that, the choice plan offers the lowest premiums, but it also has the highest deductible, and there are no co pays.

JT:

But the HSA account can help with that. Right?

DJ:

Yeah. It really can. You get an annual contribution from DHL, and you can also contribute your own money tax free. It's a great way to reduce your current federal taxes and to set some money aside in case you have unexpected medical expenses. Or if you want to, you can even use it to save for the future.

DJ:

And unlike other accounts, your HSA balance rolls over year to year, and you can take your HSA account with you even after you leave or retire from DHL.

JT:

So definitely check out that HSA. It can be a real game changer. Alright. But she did a great job of covering how to stay physically and mentally fit, but what about our financial health, DJ?

DJ:

Excellent point, and an important topic. One of the things DHL offers are flexible spending accounts or FSAs. They're a great way to save money on taxes today.

JT:

Yes. There are 2 FSAs that are for health related expenses. The healthcare FSA can be used for medical, prescription, dental, or vision expenses if you're in the select or premium medical plans, but you can also elect it if you waive coverage. And since the DHL well choice plan already comes with that HSA we talked about, you can only have the limited purpose FSA in that plan, and it's just for dental and vision expenses. And then there's the dependent care FSA, which allows you to set aside money for, well, dependent day care.

DJ:

Yeah. It's important to note that this account is not for health care expenses, but only for day care or elder care costs so you can work. But no matter which of these flexible spending accounts you use, you pay no federal income tax on the money you set aside. But you have to plan carefully because of the use it or lose it rule.

JT:

Yes. Watch out for that. And, you know, FSAs can help you save money today, but what about our financial security for the years to come?

DJ:

Mhmm. DHL has got you covered there too. Saving for the future is easy with the 401 k through a Fidelity account. Of course, the best part about the 401 k is the matching funds from DHL. That's free money you do not wanna miss out on.

JT:

Yes. Who doesn't like free money? But there is something that nobody really talks about, but is super important, and that is income protection. In the event you pass away or are no longer able to work, DHL benefits help make sure your family is taken care of with life and AD and D insurance, short term disability and long term disability.
