My name is Cody,

I’m Stella,

I’m Mallory,

And I’m James, and today we’re talking about Season 0, Episode 0: Intro. The intro to our podcast!

And if we’ve done everything right this is probably the very first thing you are hearing about this show. You might not even know who we are or what we are doing so that’s exactly what we’re trying to answer here today: who is this show for, what is this show about, and why should you be listening to it.

So, who is this show for? This show is mostly for first time watchers, I think that we can all agree, that is our experience. All of us are coming to Dawson’s Creek with a fresh perspective, is that correct everyone?

First time.

First time, long time.

That is correct.

Basically yes.

“Basically yes,” that’s a complicated answer. Can you elaborate on that, Stella, are you our resident Dawson’s Creek expert?

I am definitely the expert here. You know, honestly I am not an expert on anything really.

Can I ask you an expert question? What’s Dawson’s last name?

Leery.

What’s Pacey’s last name?

Oh… Um, it’s on the tip of my tongue… Witter!

Wow, good job Stella.

Thank you. That was a close one. Yeah, so I watched episodes here and there as a young kiddo but don’t really have any clear memories of how the show turns out or anything like that. I just remember watching bits and pieces, but ultimately that was 15+ years ago.

And I think that’s pretty representative of our experience. Most of us are coming to this for the very first time 20+ years later, and we’re trying to figure out ‘is this show good?’ Dawson’s Creek is such a big thing from the nineties, but what is it actually about? Who is it for and why is it important. Those are the questions we’re trying to answer with our show.

I also think people who were big fans of the show might be fans of this podcast, it might be funny for them experiencing it through our lens.

Yeah, I mean we don’t know anything about this show. So if you are spoiled and know everything about this show please don’t tell us. Enjoy us getting it really wrong or really right!

At the point of this recording, we’re about 6 episodes in and we’ve got strong opinions. We all think Pacey sucks, but from all the fans we talk to they love Pacey. It’s that kind of perspective that I can imagine might be entertaining to long-time fans of this show. Maybe we’re making them mad…

Hopefully we’re making them laugh.

Hopefully. Maybe we should talk about who we are. I’m James, I’m a big-time nerd and storyteller. So I’m watching this show trying to figure out why there are so many vampires all over capeside, why Dawson is a cyborg who has been installed in Capeside, and more. What about you guys?

Well, listeners, if you’re interested in fashion and ‘90s culture, that’s my angle. I love the looks, the styles, and the nostalgia of Dawson’s Creek and I’m excited to see how it evolves.

Same here, I was born in 1990 so this show feels so familiar and nostalgic to me. I thrive on social interactions and relationships, and this show has plenty of… interesting relationships.

Last but not least, it’s me. I’m Cody. Why am I qualified? Well I could be pretentious and say I’m a produced screenwriter. But actually, I’m an actual couch potato. I like all genres and styles, but what I love most is schlock and teenage love. For whatever reason, this show completely evaded me but I need to know what the hype was all about.

So why are we doing this show?

Well we love our friendship and making fun of bad TV like the Bachelor, but we couldn’t do just another show about the Bachelor so we looked for something that worked for us. Something that would allow us to explore our own relationships and be interesting to us, but also be discussable. We landed on Dawson’s Creek, and here we are!

So what’s the format of the show.

The format is very straightforward – Each episode is structured with our initial thoughts and reactions, then we dive in and go through the episode chronologically. We land on an individual out-of-five rating, and then give our recommendations for non-Dawson’s Creek stuff.

However, each episode we learn from past mistakes and this could change. Who knows!

I’ll add that in the beginning, our first few episodes we’re figuring it out. It’s our first time recording a podcast and it’s not as easy as it seems. The first few might be a little rough, but we figure it out!

That’s a good point, when we first started we were just winging it. Now, we have a better idea, but where we’re at now probably won’t be the same place as where we finish it. For example, we just started playing sound clips that we pull from the show as we watch it. Things that help us recontextualize the episode and discuss it better. We’re figuring it out and we’re taking feedback, so if you have any thoughts about how we can improve we’re all ears! We’re looking forward to seeing you next week for our very first episode, Season 1 Episode 1: the Pilot! We’ll see you then.
