Full show transcript:
Hey
there, Buckaroo. Grab that microphone.
Boy howdy.
Yeah, well, let's talk about the uh Toy Hall of Fame 2026 finalists. There are actually quite a few of uh of some some board games and different toys.
Um that are 12 finalists.
Is that how many? Uh and only three of them will be inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in the world.
We can do a public vote. I think we did this last year, and I don't remember what I voted for.
I don't remember either. But you just go to the uh what's the website?
Museum of play.org.
There you go, perfect. And then you can vote. You have until September 23rd to vote for your favorite nom nominee to choose which toys will join. Uh in the na in the National Toy Hall of Fame. There's already Cabbage Patch Kids, the Rubik's Cube, Sand made it. So way to go, sand.
Last year battleship slime and trivial pursuit were added. Okay, so here go ahead.
I was just gonna say, here are the nominees for this year. Sure. The board game sorry. Okay, the game Yahtzee. Yes, the game Mahjong, which has been around forever. Uh the game bingo. Bop it. Bop it made the list. Bop it, twist it, pull it.
Mouse trap also made a list.
Hair bears, Monster High, Pokemon. There's no way Pokemon's not going in this video. this year. I agree with you. Pokemon is definitely going in. Polly Pocket, Tickle Me Elmo, and the slide.
The slide. I'm gonna vote for the slide.
So you Pokemon's going in. There's no way Pokemon isn't doing a big push to become part of the toy hall. Yeah. Uh the slide should absolutely be in there. I just voted. I voted for the slide. Nice.
Because that's been a staple. Yeah.
So I'm trying to figure out which other one. I think of all of these, like I I want I want to see Bop It go in. I want to see Pokemon go in, and I want to see the slide. Those are the three of them.
Those are what you'd pick? Yeah. I'm gonna pick the slide. Yep.
Uh mean, I mean, Care Bears is awesome. Care Bears. I don't really care about Monster High. Yeah, I don't either. I don't I think there's there's enough on this list that Monster High shouldn't be in this list.
Agreed. And tickle me almo was on the list last year, but he didn't he didn't get picked last year.
And look, he was like a big holiday toy when he first came out. So I wouldn't be mad to see Ticklemiomo make it in there.
But Yahtzee's been around forever too. So has sorry, really.
Sorry, I don't know. Uh for me, the fact that Mahjong and Bingo are on here, like those games have been around for a very long time. Very, very long. Like Mahjong is ancient. Yeah. And I just don't know that a lot of kids are playing these games. I agree with Kiddie. Kids play sorry, but bingo, mahjong, and yachtsee are not kid games. And not that toys necessarily has to be a kid thing, but I feel like that's the point. Yeah, that is the point.
So for me, I wouldn't put bingo mahjong and yahtze in there. Okay. That's just my hot take. Is it?
Intense. Well, November is when the induction will happen. Public has until September 23rd to vote at Museumofplay.org. Okay, go vote. And uh oh, look, it's today's show.
Late nights do not make for early mornings. I mean decided. I mean, look, this is this is well known. This is just the way things are. Yes. But last night was a late night. Do you know what time we went to bed? No. I'm gonna say one. Are you serious?
I think it was the last time I looked at my clock, it was 1249.
I didn't think it was that late. That is crazy. I know. Uh so five hours. I want to talk about the storm. Okay. But that was bananas. It was bananas. Yeah.
It was raining cats and dogs. Mm-hmm. Uh anyway. Yeah, where do you want to go?
Where do you want to go? I don't know. I want to talk about. I want to talk about the um. I want to talk about the the rain later. I don't want to talk about it right now. I'm not ready to talk about it yet. The rain in Spain.
No. Stays mainly on the planes. Isn't that like a vocal warm-up? It's from my fair lady. But yes. But it's a vocal warm-up. Yeah. Okay. Just making sure. Yeah. I gotta know what I'm talking about.
You do know what you're talking about. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Yeah.
Well, anyway. Uh so it's it's a little struggle this morning, is what I'm saying. It's a little bit of a struggle.
Yeah, you can hear my voice. Like. Yeah. It's okay. We're gonna get through it. And then guess what else? What else? The weekend. Okay. All right. I can I can uh So settle on in, buddy. We're gonna be here all day, but we're gonna kick it. Yeah, what time's your day end? Three. Good for you. What time is your day? 6 30. I'm sorry.
I got 12 hours before I'm done. And that's fine. Because you know why? Why? I'm gonna go look at hot tubs. You should make a deal. I should.
I know. Yeah.
Uh this afternoon I'm gonna be hanging out uh with Bullfrog Spaws. They've got a uh big event happening at the Melaleuca event center, which is by Sandy Downs. Uh and I will be there from four to six this afternoon. Yeah. So uh trying to move some hot tubs.
Well, maybe I'll swing by and deliver a treat.
And check out some hot tubs with you.
Yeah, we can sit in some and say, I like this one. Bring a swimsuit. This one's nice.
I'm sitting in it fully clothed. Yeah. This one will do. This one looks great. Yeah. Uh no, that's happening though. So it's gonna be it's gonna be fun. Uh, but it's just it's giving me a later afternoon, you know. I'm sorry, honey.
I'm sorry that I'm yawning. Man, I know it was uh late night.
Late nights do not make for early mornings. I told you. Those are the facts, man. All right, here's some good news. You know uh the New England Patriots quarterback Drake May.
Yeah. Uh he is uh along with his wife, uh, they have a foundation called the May Day Foundation. Uh his wife's name is Ann Michael, and they just did a huge thing for uh an elementary school, Providence, Rhode Island. They donated $15,000 to the uh Alfred Lima Elementary School. Oh, they surprised the staff through their foundation, and the funds were handed straight to the teachers in the form of gift cards so that they could pay uh could discontinue paying out of pocket for classroom supplies. And some of the educators have already got like big plans for the cash. Uh, there's a dual language teachers uh uh group that are stocking up on new bilingual books.
Nice, a reading specialist is cleaning out her Amazon cart that's filled on with hands hands on learning games. Uh huh. Uh there's a student run Lima news crew uh that is looking to upgrade their broadcast studio with new microphones and green screen gear to make their morning announcements a little bit more special. Cool.
Uh so there's some big things going on at the Alfred Lima elementary school, uh, thanks to the help of the Mayday Foundation with Drake May and his wife Ann Michaels. That's so nice. Yeah, isn't that cool?
Well, no, I have to be You don't have to be. You don't.
You don't have to, you can just go, what a nice thing.
That's a nice thing, Drake May. You don't have to be like, oh now I have to like this team. Well, good, because I'm not gonna. I know. I know.
Hey, but that's some good news. That is good news. What a show last night. The lightning show? The lightning, the thunder, the lightning was like I've never seen before in my life.
Yeah, it was uh lighting up the whole sky. It was everywhere.
It was it was to the north, it was to the uh to the uh west to the south. It was cool because I was standing out on the the back deck and looking at it with our sun, and it there was a break in the clouds to the east, and so I'm looking, watching all this light up, light up, light up, and I turn and I go, Oh, Saturn. And so we're watching all this lightning and thunder and stuff, and there's a just a clear shot of Saturn to the to the east. And I bet goes, oh yeah, that's cool. So we sat and watched more lightning.
I didn't even like it was too cloudy to see anything when I was out there.
You could see Saturn just plain as day. That was pretty pretty cool. Way to show up, Saturn. Yeah. Saturn's like, what's going on over there, guys? Boy, were we dealing with it though. So a lot of flash flooding. Uh and I know flooding uh hit a lot of places. Uh we ended up having to go drive around in it uh unplanned, but an emergency flooding thing we had to go help with. Yeah. Uh made us leave the house in the middle of the worst part of it. Well, I was I was in bed. I know.
It was quarter after 10, and I was snuggling on down. And I got a phone call that said, Hey, can you come help? And I went, Yep. Yeah.
So we rode up and off we go. Did some puddle busting. Which you didn't care for.
Well, one, you have a problem with turning on your windshield wipes.
I don't have a problem. You have a problem with how low I keep them. It's like you don't I can see just fine.
I don't know how, Josh. I don't know how with my eyeballs. No. Do you have x-ray vision through the rain? Because it drives me a little bit crazy. Oh, I know.
I turned them up one time and you went, there you go. I went, whoa, easy.
I try not to say anything because it's the way you drive. You're doing fine. Right. I can't handle it. I cannot. I can't even look out the window, the front window when you're driving. I have to look at the side because I go, if I look at the front window, I'm gonna say something. Or I'm gonna reach over and turn on his windshield wipers for him. I don't know how you drive.
I can see just fine. And they here's the thing. I uh hate when they go on a dry window.
I hate when you can't see.
Yeah. If they're making that noise, the window's too dry. It needs more wet or more water on it.
So you're driving through the puddles. Yes. You can't see anything because you don't have
your when before I hit a puddle, I bumped it down to high. So that I could see. I don't know about that. No, I did. And then it's going too fast once the puddle water's cleared off, and then I gotta take it back down to intermittent. We did see another puddle, and here we go again.
We did see a couple of people that are trying to clean out their drains in their neighborhood. Out in the gutters, yeah.
Some some big flooded intersections. A little bit of a chaos. Underpass is flooded again. I've seen uh some pictures from Shelly and Firth. It seems like they got worse hail uh than Idaho Falls did. They actually had some golf ball sized hail, uh, which was pretty wild.
I can't imagine that didn't do some damage. Uh so hopefully uh everybody's okay and all your stuff is okay. Um there is another round of these thunderstorms coming through thunderstorms coming through today uh with a flash flood watch. It's not a flash flood warning like we had uh last night, but a flash flood watch in place at about uh all day today. Uh started at 252 this morning and ends at 10 p.m. tonight.
And where's the area where it's gonna where's the flash flood zone?
Sure, that's a fine question to ask. Uh basically Idaho Falls up to Island Park. Okay. Um big zone. It is a big area.
Uh stay safe. Yep. Everyone.
The flash flooding watch for the big rock burn scar area as well, which is uh the big rock burn is the one uh that was by Hecy.
My car is little and low to the ground. So if it rains too much, I'm gonna get what's the word flooded. Sure. My engine's gonna flood. Cause uh it's just little. My car is little. Sure thing. You're gonna have to come rescue me. Oh you'll be fine.
Just go fast. You'll skip right across the top like a rope. That's a good idea. Yeah. And don't turn your wipers on. Just uh just go for it. No way, dude. Yeah, that's how you party. Uh anyway, be be safe. Uh take a look at those forecasts throughout the day, and uh, you know, obviously uh be careful. Carry a life jacket or something. I don't know the right answer, but stay dry.
Yeah. it Is it uh is it strange to say that yesterday was a big day for this old mouth because I had my uh my cleaning, my dental cleaning yesterday.
I love dental cleaning.
I know you do. I you're always like, doesn't it feel amazing? And I'm like, I it's the same mouth. I don't really feel that much different.
But your teeth, like I love rubbing my tongue over my teeth when I get dental cleaning because they feel so clean, and then I can't even stop looking at myself in the mirror because they're so shiny white.
Ah, are mine shiny white? Yeah. Nice they are. Okay.
And then they kind of put stuff on there that like you still they put I don't know what they do. They put some kind of cleaning gel or something on there.
It's polish. And they ask you what flavor you want.
And I want to talk about that. bit tingly. What flavor is your polish? Uh, I don't know if they have a flavor. Do they ask you? Um I don't remember. I know that they've asked Emery before, and she hates the mint one. She does not, and there's a watermelon one she does not like either. Okay.
I'm pretty confident my options are limited to three. Okay. They are like mint, cherry, or bubble gum. Well. And every time they ask me, I go, what adults out here going like give me a bubble. Bubblegum. I'll have bubblegum. Who cares?
I don't care. Don't have their fun, Josh. Why do you turn harsh on the bubblegum? I get mint. Yeah, that checks out. You would get mint because that's your personality.
I'm a classic guy. I like a cool mint. So I'm good with that.
I would also just pick mint because I don't want to taste those other flavors.
I already just cleaned my mouth. Right. And the last thing I want is a terrible fake bubblegum taste. Yeah. So I'm never picking that.
Don't pick watermelon either, because Emery hates the watermelon. Yeah. Yeah.
So I found out that they do have some kind of specialty flavors. And then I got to thinking, like, what dentist is out there, like, hey, listen, we got a flavor of the month if you want to try it. Like, uh, they do vanilla cupcake. Okay. Chocolate fudge, marshmallow, sugar cookie, strawberry cheesecake, triple fudge brownie. Ew. Yeah. So you get clean spotless teeth, but you taste like you had a triple fudge brownie.
I don't want that. I just want to, I just want a clean clean taste. That's why I get mint.
I want a clean taste. Uh my hygienist goes in there with the polisher. She polishes all the, you know, each tooth. And it's a little gritty. And I don't love that. Oh, I do. Oh.
I don't I'm a very tactile person. I like that sensory feeling. So sometimes there's like a little bit of grit that gets left behind. Oh no. And then she's like, oh, let me wash that out for you. And I'm like, you could leave it. Well, I don't mind it. I don't mind it at all.
I gotta, I gotta get it out of there. I can't do fruit, like berries and stuff that have seeds in them because I don't like the texture and I do. I just ate some raspberry. It feels like I had a bunch of sand in there.
And then the seeds from the raspberries were a little bit big. And I was like, oh yeah. No. Because I can chew on them.
Cool mint, no texture. I don't like the granular texture of it. And then uh, you know, they get in there with that little thing to rinse, and she's and then she's got the suction thing going around the sides, and then she just holds it in the middle, and I'm like, oh, okay.
I know I don't know what I'm supposed to do when that thing comes in my mouth because it it's always like Yeah, they're moving around.
I'm like, what are you doing? Right.
And then I go, Am I supposed to close my mouth? Right. Am I supposed to leave my mouth open? What am I supposed to do?
Sometimes if they hold it there for more than a couple of seconds, they'll go, go ahead and close your mouth.
And I go, and then go, but how long are you supposed to close your mouth? Not long.
Because once you close it, it's got a suction on multiple sides, and so it kind of just goes and then it's done.
I just always feel like I'm failing at my responsibility.
And then she'll take it out and then she'll go over to the like bench to get other polish or whatever, and I'll go yuck. And then I still granular. So I'm like, this is awful.
I do when she goes to the counter to do her thing, whatever. I rub my tongue along my teeth and I go, this is an awesome. I love it. Good for you. I love cleaning day. I love it so much. When is my cleaning day? Hopefully it's coming up soon. I do like it.
Yeah, I know you do. Like, look at my teeth.
And they get in there with the floss, and they get and I go, uh, like this.
Boy, can she floss some teeth too? Like, holy smokes, man. Like, I floss a lot all the time. But she is in there with the floss and the rubber gloves and I'm like, this is wild. And it's every tooth. And then I gotta pay for it. Crazy.
Okay, this is kind of a funny story. I like it a lot. Okay. There was a man who bought a gold-colored Ford F250. Okay. But he bought a so his truck was gold, and for some reason his tailgate was silver. Okay. And he hated it. One day he was leaving the store and he saw a silver F-250 passing by with a gold colored tail.
Well, those two need to get together.
So he chased him down and they traded tailgates in a grocery store parking lot. Perfect. I know.
And now they're like, dude, my truck is complete and your truck is complete. And look at us with complete trucks. Be frenzies. Yeah. I wonder what that conversation was like. Uh hey, dude, come here real quick. I gotta show you something. Let's park next to each other because you're not gonna believe this.
I know how funny. What are the odds that that would happen even if
they're gonna be able to get the biggest thing? the same city? Never tell me the odds. Never tell me the odds. They're probably happened in the same city because somebody did that to those two trucks. So it's probably the original tailgates.
And it was probably friends before that were like, hey, you know it would be a hilarious. We could swap tailgates.
What a weird thing to do. But I like that they've uh that they've met and they've been able to make their trucks complete. I know. They should have what they should have done is traded doors. Why? Because then their doors would have matched their tailgates.
When they have the mismatch one. Yeah. Just one.
One on each side. Like if they've got the like the four-door truck, then you do like the driver's side door. Uh and the passenger back door. And then you get that hodgepodge vehicle. People be like, what is wrong with these two?
I love that. I just think that story was so cute.
It is. It is so cute. I know. The two dudes swap tailgates. I know. Isn't it nice?
It's like a there, what's another um word for friend that starts with a T.
A word for friends that start with a T. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. They're tight. No, it's not that. What is it? I I don't know. I'm trying to think of something. You have nothing. No. Uh. Can't even type. Um.
Because I want to do teammate, maybe. It's like the teammates. Tailgate teammates. Tellgate.
You were trying to find the obliteration, is what you're saying. Tailgate twins. No, it's not that. No. Tailgate. No, man. It's not going to work. Well. Good luck figuring that out. Okay. Um.
I sometimes think that I talk about things before I really know what I'm talking about.
You think sometimes you do this? When when did you become aware of yourself? Oh.
I received a message yesterday from a one person that we know named JR. And JR happens to be your cousin. That's right. And he's a big Seattle Seahawks fan. Yes. Uh, and if you'll remember Sam Darnold used to be on the Vikings.
That's right. And now he's a Super Bowl champion quarterback with the Seattle Seahawks. That's right.
So he sent me a video yesterday. And it was a Vikings, the team in the locker room. Yeah. And I didn't entirely watch the whole clip. Let's be real. I was at work and I quickly This is the one you showed me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You didn't need to watch it that long to figure out who the guy was. He's front and center immediately. Did you not know his face? What happened?
Anyway, tell your story. So in the video it said, Bo Nix had two turnovers in week one. Drake May had three turnovers in week one. You know who didn't have a turnover this week? And it's the Vikings quarterback.
Well, one odds of the Vikings quarterback. And I said, Oh yeah. And I said, I like that dude, dude, and I hope he continues to be good. And he said to me, he didn't even play.
That's the point of the gym.
And I went, oh what? And then I had to look at the video again. No, he the video he sent was of JJ McCarthy. Right.
At first. There's QB3 on your team.
Glance, I thought it was Carson Wentz.
Not even the same look. They don't look the same.
I know. I know. And I go, I I can't believe that I just got my quarterback's confused. I go, I really need to stop talking about football because I don't know what I'm talking about.
You've been told that by uh Jake who works in our office here. He said it's uh what did he say?
He said it was insufferable. Yeah.
When you're talking about sports football. Yeah. Ugh. Yuck.
So um yeah, if you ever hear trash from me about football, just know that I've I really have no idea what I'm talking about. I just pretend like I do.
Yeah. Like even today, there was a Packers fan that played Kid Smarts, and I I called him out and I said, ew, pick a new team. But you should probably just stay with your team because don't listen to my football advice because obviously I'm bad at knowing about football.
I don't think you're bad uh about football. I like your take. Your take is emotion. Like you don't really care about stats and who's good and whatever. I told the story in good news today about Drake May, and you're like, no, I have to like him.
And I won't know you don't. I do like him though. No, I know, but you were like immediately after the story feeling like now I gotta like him and his team because he did a nice thing.
I don't I won't like the Patriots. Oh they cheated, you know.
I feel like I need our son in the room to remind you. Well, that happened a long time ago. It was like one dude, and we had nothing to do with everybody else, and you're still talking about that one thing that happened a hundred years ago. know.
Okay. I will try my best to do better about knowing about football.
I mean, it was your own team. That was the most embarrassing part. So you showed it to me, and I went, Oh, that's funny. And you went, Yeah, who is that? I know. Yeah. Oh, yo. Then you couldn't even remember your actual quarterback's name.
Because Kyler Murray is on IR because he has a concussion. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And then you went, what's his name? His name is. And then you remembered Carson. I know stuff. I know you know stuff. Sometimes you forget that you know some stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
I gotta do, I gotta do like a deep dive into my players and figure out who is on my team.
I feel like if I rolled tape from a year ago, you said the exact same sentence. I gotta learn my roster. I don't even know everybody because we went through the draft and we went through trades and we went through all the stuff. I don't know where everybody's at, everything gets shaken up.
Every year they get shaken up. Right. I can't keep track of all.
And then you printed your roster last year. What'd you do with that paper? Couldn't tell you. Yeah. Okay. Good times. I like what you've written down here in our notes because at 8 a.m. you said I should stop talking about football. And then at 8 35, now you've said I need to stop being so vocal about things I hate.
Maybe I should just stop talking full stop.
What's going on? What's what's going on in that brain of yours?
Well, yesterday I was at my other job, and my boss said, Hey, I got you this. He knows that I don't like country music. And so he said, I got you this country music t-shirt. And I go, why? And he goes, Oh, it was just a joke. I didn't actually get you that. And he goes, but I do want to get you a puppet because he knows that I don't really like puppets either.
I don't know how you don't like puppets.
Then he goes, and then he says, and then he says,
Well, another coworker chimes in and she goes, Oh, you need to get her a saxophone that only plays tears for fears, too.
No, look at that. That's a pile of things you love.
I said, okay, maybe I need to stop being
so I go, am I that vocal about things that I hate? And they all said, Yes. Yes, you are. And I went, I am sorry to rain on everybody's parade. I didn't mean to be so hateful. So sorry to anybody who likes country music or saxophone or Tears for Fears.
Or country music. Or country music. I'm sorry. I don't like those things, but it doesn't mean that you How do you feel about baseball? I'm not gonna say that I hate it.
And how do you feel about baseball players? Fine.
Sally. Okay, when I told you this story, and I said I need to stop. I go, Am I that vocal about things I hate? And you agreed. You said yes. Yeah. Do I explain further, please? Explain what? I don't know.
You wear your emotions on your sleeve.
I really do. That's the explanation. I really do.
You tell it like it is, and you wear your emotions on your sleeve. That's it. There's nothing else to say. You're pretty open book. I am a pretty open book. Yeah. I yeah. Yeah, I am.
And I want people to know it, I guess.
I guess so. I guess so. Because you're not shy about like, no, I don't like that. I wish that didn't exist. You know what I don't like? A saxophone.
I know, and I'm gonna offend so many people because
there's I don't know why you why don't you like it? It's so nice.
I just don't like the music that comes out of it. No. Oh, that's all. I know, no offense to anybody who likes it. I have a coworker whose son is learning to play it. He's pretty excited about learning how to play it.
And I went I hope he comes in and just does a wicked solo on your desk. Just stands there and just belts it out.
I think there are plans to do.
Oh, that's fantastic. Look, look, you're gonna tell this child you don't like his saxophoning.
Okay, but the thing is they invited me because his little sister plays the violin, and then their mom is also learning how to play the violin. Yeah. And they invited me to join their family band when I start to learn how to play the drums.
This is a weird collection of instruments. I know two violins, a saxophone, and a drum. What are you gonna call yourselves?
I don't know, but I said, listen to how rude I am. I said, Oh, you have a saxophone in your band. I can't join. How mean. That's so mean. He's a little kid. He's a kid.
It's not him. It's the saxophone. Listen, you're a fine kid. It's just you picked a bad instrument. Is that how it is?
People are gonna be so mad at me because people play the saxophone.
That's right. People do play the saxophone. And they're I'm just you know other people who play the saxophone. I know I do well. Who played the saxophone in jazz band in high school? And they're good. Who do I know who did that? I will tell you later. Okay. But you've offended them.
I know, I'm sorry. My brother played the trombone.
How did you like the trombone? Good. How are you about wind instruments? You're kind of a strings link.
I am a strings instrument kind of person. Yeah.
So the two violins, you're like, cool. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Well, that is where you should take your cello, not your drums. Right. Right. Which you also don't know how to play. Yet. I will say you.
I know. I know, I know. I had a practice. I'll tell you about it later. Your drum practice?
Oh, good. I heard some of it. We'll talk about it later. I had a drum lesson yesterday. Now, okay, hold on. Say I was cooking dinner. Yeah. And I heard you go out to the garage because you were like, what can I help with? What can I do? What can I how can I help?
What can I do? And I said, I got it. I'm just, I'm just cooking.
It's fine. Like, I've got all my stuff. I'm in my zone.
I'm good. And you went, I'm gonna go practice drums then while he's cooking. And you went out to the garage right next to the kitchen. And I, when you sat down, I heard this like really nice. and I And I was like, oh, okay. And then it got quiet. And I went, what happened?
Like that was like you had a real solid, like first sit down. You were on a rhythm, and I was like, this is cool. I I was for a minute, I thought that was Beck drumming.
Oh, seriously? I was like, did Beck go out there? And I went to the living room, he's watching football. And I went, no way.
Okay. Went back to cooking dinner. And then it was quiet for a long time. And then I heard, t, pff, t, pff.
And I was like, oh, okay. She's just practicing. But you're when you were getting your metronome set up and all that stuff in the silence of the thing, trying to get yourself to where you could practice just some beats. But just sitting down and hammering it out, I was like, that's awesome.
I was impressed. It is hard. I actually thought drumming would be a little bit more easy than some other instruments, but it is hard. There are so many things that you have to do simultaneously. Well, yeah.
But that's why I wanted to keep it simple for you. That's why I said you just got to focus, focus on quarter notes just four, four time, just easy easy. And uh and don't worry about all the extra stuff.
And that's what I've still been doing. And so right now I'm focusing on just doing
like your high hat
and one and two and three and four. And my snare, you always hit the high hat, but my stairs are twos and fours, and my bass drum is ones and threes. And I'm trying to get that.
But then I was watching a video last night where the guy was like, okay, we're gonna do it a little bit differently than this, and we're gonna we're gonna do the bass on the and Right. And that was hard. It's really hard.
Well, that's a half note. So that's the harder part, is that you're like that's why I think just focus on your main four count notes and really work on that. Here's the other thing. And it's gonna be boring for a while. But if you you're gonna have to just work it, work at work.
I'm plateau for a while. I need to practice when I'm home alone because I uh I also worry that it's annoying for you guys to listen to Not at all. like when I was practicing the piano, it was the same thing over and over and over and over. I know that's what practice is. But then I also mess up, and so then I go, oh. And I get embarrassed that you guys can hear my mess ups.
Not at all. You just have to just go through it. That's how you're gonna get better. You gotta, you're not you're never gonna be able to perform in front of people if you're worrying about every little thing somebody's gonna think.
Who said I was gonna perform in front of people?
You in your band. What are you practicing for if not to perform?
Because I want to play the drums, but I don't necessarily want to perform.
Of course you do. You can't be in a band. Yes, you can. Absolutely. It's why you learn an instrument is to be in a band.
I think it's fun still. I'm still going to do it. Don't even worry about it.
Don't but don't worry about people being home. Just do your thing. Okay. Okay. Okay. Simple as that. Switch off. Come on. You were doing great. It was fun.
It was cool to listen to. That's nice, Josh. That's a nice compliment. Well, just keep on going. Okay, I will. Thumbs up, buddy. Somebody need a drummer for their band. She's new. I'm new. Go slow.
She's she's gonna take a lot of rehearsal. Maybe practice a little bit more before you go saying I'll join your band. You can only play three of the parts of the drum.
I get only so far.
I can only do a high hand. hi-hat. You're getting no fills. Symbols are gonna be sporadic because she's gonna bump them. Yeah, correct. Yeah.
I got a snare, a bass, and a hi-hat. That's right.
But the two toms, the floor tom and the cymbals, those are just decoration. For now. For now. For now. Practice more before you join a band. I know, Josh. Very good.
Something very cool happened yesterday. What is it? I was able to feed a squirrel. From my hand. And it was awesome. Okay.
Snow white over here.
Well, I've been working toward it for I mean a couple of years now. Every now and then I've been like, hey, let's try it again. Yesterday. Nope. Wednesday was our daughter's birthday. And I was putting some signs in the yard. And while I was sitting there putting signs in the yard, I heard some chittering behind me. And I looked over, and we we feed the squirrels. There is a squirrel feeder on our tree. We give them peanuts and corn.
And lately you've been Yeah, I've been harvesting sunflower heads from the backyard and feeding them sunflower heads. They like that.
Yeah. And so as I was hanging up that sign or putting the sign in the yard, the squirrel came down, got a little close to me, and I was like, I I got nothing for you, buddy. And I went and I got some peanuts. Now our dog hates the squirrels.
And so the dog wants to be friends, I can't tell.
Really hates when I'm talking to the squirrels.
She doesn't, she is like your protector. And so if she sees them as a risk, and you go outside and you're like, hey, squirrel, as the closer you get, the more undone the dog becomes because she's like, I you gotta save you. She's having a panic attack.
I tried to feed the squirrel on Wednesday. He got close, but it didn't happen. Okay. So then yesterday. Yeah, we were sitting up there. kind of sitting outside watching the Watching the clouds roll in, and I said, I'm gonna go get I'm gonna go get us some peanuts. And I very patiently just sat in the grass.
I'm watching the video right now. And he came over and he never I had my phone kind of like I was sitting down and cross-legged, and he never came to my front of me. He would always go to the side of me. Yeah, flank. Yeah.
Like he's attacking. Because I think he thinks you you move faster forward than you would to the side. And so it's a safety thing. It's a it's uh it's a cautious movement. Anyway, he took the peanut from me. Yeah, you just held it out and he took it right from your hand. Yeah. That's exciting.
With his mouth. He didn't he didn't grab it with his hands.
He just was like, What was he gonna grab it with his hands? Why would he do that? He's gonna run away. He's gonna skitter away up the tree.
Right, you're right, you're right, you're right.
If he did that, then you have to move it. I'll just grab it with my mouth and go. Yeah. Well, while hand feeding squirrels often uh offers immediate personal entertainment and a close-up interaction with wildlife, the risks significantly outweigh the benefits. Yeah for both humans and the animals. Wildlife experts strongly advise against hand feeding squirrels due to the health dangers, behavioral shifts, and physical changes to the animals. There's dangers to humans like accidental bites and scratches.
We did get a because I posted the video. We did get somebody who said that she did this and then the squirrel became aggressive and she got attacked and her finger has nerve damage. And so uh it's not something I'm gonna attempt again. It was just cool to do it this time. I see.
Uh disease and parasite transmission is on the list and property damage. There was a post online, somebody said that when squirrels associate a specific home with food, they can become bolder.
Yeah. One homeowner posted online that they uh had squirrels chew through window screens through the front door, and home siding trying to get inside for more handouts. No, well there's food in there, and I know it.
Oh, these squirrels are gonna be jerks. Right. Okay. I'll stop.
For their end, um, there's a veterinary meta medicine in Illinois that uh says um habituated squirrels quickly learn how to demand for food. And if a person walks by without a handout, they may climb up their legs and bite them out of frustration because they're like, you uh you have food. You're the food lady.
Oh then you have to carry food all the time. Okay, but there's also like we're feeding them unsalted peanuts, like we're feeding them the food that is designed for squirrels. So we have like a critter mix and corn cobs, and we aren't feeding them people food, but that can be dangerous uh for the animals.
There's also squirrels can lose their fear of humans and then become vulnerable to neighborhood hazards, and then they are more likely to be hit by vehicles or attacked by off-leash dogs and outdoor cats because they're like, but people have food. Okay, okay. So there's all these things.
All right, I did it. I did it this time, I won't do it again. I okay.
I'm just telling you. I just did some research. I haven't researched this ever before.
I hear your risks.
But also how fun and exciting.
It was very exciting. I kind of liked it. If you watch the video, I kind of do like a little giggle at the end because I was so excited he took it. That's awesome. Congratulations.
Thanks. I have successfully fed the squirrel one time. It was also caught on video by our outdoor camera. It was a fun, exciting time. You were watching from inside. It was. And uh so was the dog, and she was not excited. She doesn't like it when you get too close.
But we better not, we better not. Just fill the feeder. It's too dangerous.
Fill the feeder and watch from a distance. Yeah, that's better. Yeah. They are still a wild animal. That's right. As someone reminded us. Now, if you want to know the opposite of everything I just said, and you want to call and yell at somebody, Victor down the hall feeds them at his back door and feeds them marshmallows. So get after him.
You know that Tuesday is the first day of fall.
Oh, officially. Officially. Yeah, the fall solstice.
Which means this is the last weekend of summer.
Officially. Oh man.
We were just talking about how the leaves are changing, and we haven't had some family pictures taken in a really long time. And we it always seems like we miss the fall colors.
And I'm gonna tell you, if you are a leaf peeper, it's happening right now. Uh in the hills. Yeah. But you gotta get into the hills in the wilderness in the mountains to see it. Right. Uh, and so a lot of people I would imagine this weekend are gonna be taking advantage of that. I know we especially now that we talked about. I know it.
Now you just made all the traffic crazy. No, I'm kidding. Um, but there's there's some great leaf peeping. I saw some pictures from Downey.
Uh, that looks amazing. Uh Swan Valley looks really, really nice. So there's a couple of places that are really easy to get to uh in East Idaho that you can go and check out. I know like uh for Pocatello, that whole Mint Creek area down by uh like Cherry Springs, like all that stuff is awesome. So if you're gonna be doing fall photos or you want to get out and just enjoy some of the fall colors, it's a fine time to do it. Especially since this is the last weekend of summer. Oh, what are we doing? What do you mean?
I like fall, yeah, but I fall leaves a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth because I know it's after fall and I really don't like winter. I see. Although I'm trying to lean more into winter because I have a lot of inside hobbies.
Sure. And during the summer, I don't want to do those inside hobbies because I want to be outside doing summer stuff. And so I'm kind of excited for winter this year because I'm like, ooh, I can get behind my sewing machine again. Sure. Or oh, I can practice my drums. Okay. Or what else is an inside hobby that I do?
Any of your journaling stuff.
My art journaling stuff, yep. Yep. Yep.
You could take up puzzles. I know you're into puzzles. I hate puzzles. I know you do. I know you do. Uh, does that mean then that also you want to get out the fall decor? Yep. So I gotta climb the ladder. Yes, please.
But also, we need to get out our Halloween costumes.
I know we've got stuff to do. Shh. We need parts and pieces from the Halloween bins. Shh, it's a secret.
Plus, also, I know what my Halloween costume is gonna be this year, and I think I have some pieces in there for the Halloween costume and I need to know what I have so that I can assemble the rest of my costume.
I don't know what I'm uh what I'm gonna do. I saw a corn you did cost. You showed me a homemade corn, yeah.
And it's just little egg cartons that she painted yellow, and then she
hooked to her chest and they look like kernels of corn. It's awesome. It's so cute. It is. That's not what I'm going at. So somebody can take that idea. That's a corny one. Um, I'm excited. And I actually am gonna wear my costume to work. Are you? Yeah, except I think Halloween is on a Saturday. Yeah, it is. So wear it on the Friday. Okay, I will. Okay. I just cause I'm super excited about it.
Yeah, and then that way you can wear it more than once.
Yeah. I'm so excited about it. I hope we get invited to a Halloween party. Oh, yeah? Yeah. What if we host one? We could. I know. We've never hosted one before. No. Wouldn't that be something? That'd be something. All right. Uh happy last weekend of summer.
Enjoy it. Make the most of it. Don't be sad. Falls great.
Don't be sad. What is the saying? Don't be sad at all. Oh, don't be sad at any time. it ended.
Just be glad it happened. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have your arms dangled to the floor because they're really long or because you're really short? Long arms. Okay. You'd have you want to have be the height that you are. Yeah.
But your hands. I want normal sized body long arms, not normal size arms, short body. Okay.
Yeah. Dragon on the floor. Dude, I could reach you from here. Yeah, you could. Just about.
That's a long arms. I'd have to sit so far back, and or my elbows would be like crazy. That's a that's a terrifying sight. Someone with arms that long.
I'm trying to decide what I want to pick. Stand up. Okay. Why? Put your arms down to your sides. Okay.
How long are they gonna be to reach the floor? Twice as long. Yeah. Twice as long. They'd have to be at least two and a half feet long.
Gur. Right. Gur. Longer. So same height. Yeah.
But right now standing, your hands are touching the ground. Or think picking that. Think about your arms where they're at right now. Okay. And shrink your body to where they gotta fit on the so your hands can fit on the floor. long arms. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not shrinking body. No more.
Man. Think about how you could give a hug.
Oh, you could give six hugs at once. Crazy. You hug a whole group. You could. Like, come on, guys. Bring it in team. I got you all. Big hugs. Everyone feels included. That's a crazy scary thing.
You walking down the hall swinging those big old things. Crazy. But I guess that's the deal. I'm taking the arms. Same.
Over the short body. Yeah, me too. Would you rather this or that? You know what I love? Earning rewards. That's what I love. I like earning them. Okay. I like spending them.
You don't really like spending them, though.
I like to stock up and see how many I can get.
You do.
Here's the thing that bums me out about every rewards app these days, is that they expire your rewards if you don't use them. And I think that is lame.
They don't let you stack them.
I want to stack up on them. I want to save up as many as I can, and then I want to go in and feed the family. That's what I'd like to do.
That would be cool, wouldn't it? Yeah, but then they're like, you can only redeem one reward at a time per purchase per person. And I go, stop making all these rules about how I can use my rewards. I earn them. Let me spend them the way I want.
Is there go ahead? No, go ahead. What were you doing? I was just gonna say, is there a specific reward that you're talking about?
Well, I've I've saved up on this particular one 1,130 rewards points. So I was scrolling to see I can get I can't get a full meal, but I do have enough to get a $10 off coupon. Um, or a full on, you know, entree, just not a meal yet. I can get who's ordering a triple burger. Oh, it's cheeseburger day, by the way. It is cheeseburger. And it's cheeseburger day. I probably should make cheeseburgers for dinner.
I have some to make. Do you? Yeah. Okay.
So I should probably do that. But well, if it's not raining. I'm man enough to stand in the rain.
As long as it's not like downpouring. Uh, that'd be fine. Uh, but yeah, I mean, that's 50% off, but that's a triple burger. Who's ordering a triple burger? I don't know. Not this guy.
I'll tell you that much. That's too much.
So that's that one. I wanted to see the other ones because I've got several of these uh on my phone that I like to earn rewards in. And we just went to uh this one with the uh fluffy cow, and uh and I wanted to see where I was at on that one. Oh, looking good. Look at that number.
1462. And I use this one often. Uh so that's pretty good. I'm pretty stoked about that. That means I've got some free stuff there. What about this one? The one with the windmill. Do you have this app?
Yeah.
Oh man.
The problem with the windmill app that you have, the windmill is let's stop being so cryptic. It's the Dutch Bros one. Yeah. The problem, I never earn rewards there because we usually just go together and then you can't.
Whoever's driving scans the phone. That's the rule. And that's not fair. That's the rule. Who made that the rule? Me.
I'm usually the one that pays.
If I be mine. If I have to sit there and say the crazy names of all those drinks, I'm using my app.
You're right. That's because you usually have to order for Emery, and she's like, I want the triple berry boba blast.
Yeah, and I go, What? Say all those words to that lady who's taking the order. Roll down your window. All right, that's fair. So uh I've got rewards to activate. I've got enough points in that one, too. Man, I love rewards. Aren't they great?
Yeah, except I always forget to use them. Whenever I'm somewhere, I'm like, oh, wait, I had rewards after I've already paid and eaten and Coles Cash.
You do that with Coles Cash. You go, oh, we had that.
And old Navy Cash.
What do they call their old Navy bucks?
Speaking of, I think I have some. When does it expire? Oh no. I gotta use it.
Well, this weekend might be a rewards redemption weekend. Let's wrap up the show. Have a second. Let's go kick ours off. Stay dry uh today. More rain in the forecast.
Yep. Good luck. Oh, and hey, if you're looking for something to do, uh Art Day in Idaho Falls is tomorrow. So uh if you want to come and hang out in like all the venues downtown or doing a bunch of
art, the art museum has got stuff. There's jazz music outside of Pchenga's downtown. Um there's a symphony in the park.
There's auditorium's got stuff.
Auditorium's got some free stuff and some art classes happening.
Um and then the street party at the end of the night is gonna be awesome. So like parts of uh like all of A Street downtown is blocked off. There's a stage, there's live music, it's a 90s band that's doing 90s mixtape. It's gonna be really fun. It's gonna be awesome. Uh come get some like glow in the glow, you know, light up stuff.
Yeah, they're giving away free glow swag and popcorn and soda.
It's gonna be fun. So uh definitely if you're looking for something to do on Saturday, downtown Idaho Falls free concert in the street. It's a street party. Awesome. And it's free.
It is totally free. Bring the family and come check it out. It's art day all day tomorrow in Idaho Falls by the proclamation of the mayor. It's art day. So make some art and have fun.
And uh that's it. Have a good weekend. We'll see you later. Goodbye.
