[00:00:00] Speaker: Hi, guys. It's Victoria with Counselor Chronicles. If you're here, it means you've found me or I have found you, and either way, it's fate, and I'm super glad you're here. This is a podcast that originally started off as a hobby and then became like an outlet so that I didn't go completely insane at my job, but it is a slight passion, slowly becoming a slight passion.
But it is more than anything a dedicated safe space where I share the good, the grim, the WTF, and the day of a life as a high school guidance counselor. Now, let me just say, a millennial guidance counselor in 2026 in her 30s, that's a sight to see. Okay? Like, my favorite animal is me as a guidance counselor, like doing the Lord's work.
I do believe in public service, which is why I'm in the public school education system, and that's as much as I'm gonna give you because I believe in privacy. Also not trying to like blow my spot up because some of y'all are weirdos, and whoever's listening, I just gotta protect myself, gotta protect the kids.
And you won't get to see us. You will hear us, and I don't know, maybe it will become a vlog within the next couple of seasons, but for now, we're just playing around with our voices. We're just trying to get our voices out there. And when I say we, I mean the collection of amazing people that have offered to collaborate with me in this series because I can't do this alone.
I've evolved at my job through other people, solely through like learning through other departments, so I get to collab with different teachers, friends who are in education, you know, people just in different departments. And I will slowly get to dig a little deeper, but for now, this series and this season, I'm gonna release these by season because I feel like that's the most appropriate way to do it and to like encapsulate the season I'm currently in and going through and what I've learned.
So in this season, I release a handful of episodes. I think they're like maybe four to five, and you get to get a taste of my world, and then slowly I, my goal is to impart more wisdom, tips. I want to interview in a more layered and deeper foundation, if that makes sense.
But for now, we do talk about pretty important stuff, but I'm just showing you what the other side of the curtain looks like because I don't think a lot of people even understand what guidance counselors do or how many hats they have to put on a day.
And I, and I don't even think half y'all even remember your guidance counselor's name. Did they ever help you in any way? And half of you are gonna say you loved your guidance counselor and half of you are gonna say you didn't know them. And I wanna be that change, and I strive to be that change.
I wanna be that memorable impact. I wanna be that change agent. I wanna be the better part in your day, if you are having a shitty day. And I wanna be the reason that these kids evolve and come out of whatever cycle they're in. Like, I don't know. I know I'm in the right field and I'm super happy to be here, and I know that this is my passion, but let me just tell you, I, this school has taught me a lot of what not to do.
Now, I'm gonna go ahead and say this. I talk a lot of shit about the school that I work at, but that does not, I want you guys to understand, two things can be true, right? I love what I do and I love the people I serve. Do I love the office I work in? No. And you'll get to see why. You'll get to learn why, 'cause I'm a professional yapper, baby, okay?
That is what I love to do. So I'm here to spill the tea, I'm here to talk shit, but I'm also here to impart the wisdom I've gained, the lessons I've learned, and the tea that I'm, that I'm, that I'm collecting that just gets brought to me. I do have some episodes with some students. I have some episodes with teacher friends.
I have episodes with, like I said, other people in different departments. I've done this not by myself. I've evolved through collaborating, so I'm happy to be here, happy to share, . This is a small little intro so you kind of understand what you're in for.
And some of these are 40 minutes, some of them are an hour, but they're no more than an hour, 'cause I'm, I'm not gonna do you like that. I can't yap your ear off. But I'll try to work on making them shorter. Stay with me. If you, if you feel like you're a listener and you're able to put me down somewhere, that's great.
If you're able to tune in, great. If not, tune in, tune in when you can. Tune in in fragments, but just tune in. I promise you there, there's definitely something to be gained. I wish I had this voice in my ear when I was first starting, when I was fresh out of grad school, 'cause you really do feel like, like a fish, not in a bigger pond, but, like, in a sea.
And we talk a lot about imposter syndrome. I talk about a lot of things that I'm learning about the system I work in and how to properly serve these students, and I'm just, like, learning a lot about myself. This job is very humbling. This job is very enlightening and sometimes jading, but you have to remember your why, and I'm gonna be so corny and say these students always remind me about my why.
Not all of them, but most of them. So again, if you're new here, this is Counselor Chronicles, a dedicated safe space where I share the good, the grim, the WTF in a day of a life of a high school guidance counselor. This is also a safe space for educators who love what they do but just need a drink.
So I'm gonna go ahead and say this has an explicit content warning label. We do cuss, we do drink, and we do talk shit. So if you're here for that, press play, baby.
