The Echoes Podcast dives into real-world questions about community, faith, and human connection. Guided by hosts Marcus Goodyear and Camille Hall-Ortega, each episode explores personal journeys and societal challenges with inspiring guests—from faith leaders and poets to social advocates—whose stories shape our shared experiences. Through conversations with figures like Rev. Ben McBride, who moved his family to East Oakland’s “Kill Zone” to serve his community, or poet Olga Samples Davis, who reflects on the transformative power of language, we bring to light themes of belonging, resilience, and the meaning of home.
From the creators of Echoes Magazine by the H. E. Butt Foundation, The Echoes Podcast continues the magazine's legacy of storytelling that fosters understanding, empathy, and action.
The Echoes podcast is a place for honest conversations about community, faith, and our neighborhoods. I'm Camille Hall Ortega.
Marcus:And I'm Marcus Goodyear. In each episode, we explore stories that inspire and challenge us, drawing from the experiences of faith leaders, activists, and everyday heroes.
Camille:These are the stories that matter. In every episode, our guests bring raw, honest perspectives on the challenges we all face.
Speaker 3:We have lost our humanity in in knowing our neighbors, helping our neighbors. Instead of complaining to the city, going to your neighbor and saying, hey, is there something I can help you with?
Marcus:Our hope is to explore the challenges and the triumphs that real people face when they have to deal with complex issues.
Camille:And honestly, we were astounded by what so many of our guests shared.
Speaker 4:I think people don't know any better. And if we're not helping them to get to better, it it's not gonna get better.
Speaker 6:Despite what the church has been, can be, despite its flaws, despite its foibles, I would still encourage a person to become a part of a church.
Camille:We ask the real questions like, what does it mean to belong? How do we create spaces for connection?
Speaker 5:Rather than trying to solve all the big problems of our country from a meta level, my encouragement is let's figure out what this looks like in my neighborhood, in my community, in my city.
Marcus:Join us on the Echoes podcast as we uncover the stories that resonate with all of us and inspire us to live with purpose.
Camille:Listen to The Echoes podcast launching January 7th wherever you find your podcasts.
