The White House just picked which reporters exist.
That's not hyperbole. That's Monday. And the question for a Christian today is simple: when power decides who tells the truth about it, do we still love truth more than our side?
This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King.
President Trump arrived in New York City Monday ahead of the United Nations General Assembly. He met with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and French President Emmanuel Macron. Nearly one hundred thirty heads of state are gathering this week.
But the bigger story broke at home.
On Friday, the President banned CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House, accusing them of, quote, "fiction or lies." Their reporters were denied entry over the weekend. Credentials were confiscated. Monday, the three outlets filed a First Amendment lawsuit in federal court in Washington.
Then something rare happened. Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN issued a joint statement. Joint. Quote: "No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting." The networks suspended pooled coverage. There was no network footage of Air Force One taking off. At a ribbon-cutting for the new Marine One helipad, the President's comments were inaudible.
And the White House launched its own feed. Trump TV. Twenty-four-seven presidential clips.
Christians will disagree about the outlets involved. Fair enough. But Scripture is not neutral on the principle underneath.
Proverbs eighteen, verse seventeen: "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him." That is why a free press exists. Not because journalists are righteous. Because rulers are human. A government that picks its own examiners has removed a check God's wisdom assumes we need.
If you want to sit with that today, open Proverbs eighteen in Bible Copilot and read the whole chapter slowly.
To California, and a loss the wildland firefighting community is still absorbing.
Sunday afternoon, a helicopter dropping water on the Dome Fire in Yosemite National Park crashed southeast of Lake Ostrander. Both pilots were killed. One has been identified as Greg King, a veteran aviator who worked alongside the Alaska Division of Forestry. The second name is being held pending family notification.
The Dome Fire has burned more than three thousand two hundred acres. Nearly six hundred personnel are on it. The terrain is steep and rugged.
These men died doing work most of us will never see. Isaiah forty-three, verse one reminds us God knows His people by name. Pray for their families. Pray for the crews still on that mountain.
Back to Washington. The pool exists so smaller outlets and the public can see the President without every network duplicating costs. When it collapses, coverage doesn't get more diverse. It gets thinner. And the White House stream fills the gap.
Here is the practice for today. Read more than one source. On purpose. Read something you trust and something you don't. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. Ephesians four, verse fifteen calls us to speak truth in love, and you cannot speak what you have not carefully heard.

Here is the verse in full. Proverbs eighteen, verse seventeen. "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him."
Three thousand years old. And it describes Monday exactly. Every ruler sounds right when no one is allowed to ask the second question.
Thanks for listening to The Gospel Briefing. Truth does not depend on who holds the microphone. It depends on the God who holds all things.
