Gav: The podcast on Haunted Hill will contain spoilers and swearing.

Intro: So

Intro: this

Intro: Michael.

Intro: Be

Intro: one of us.

Intro: I didn't tell you my name, hang

Intro: up.

Intro: I didn't tell you my name.

Intro: It is time to keep your appointment.

Gav: Hello and welcome to the podcast on Haunted Hill

Gav: episode number

Dan: 190.

Gav: 91.

Gav: See, I had no idea.

Gav: 191.

Gav: We've just been prepping the show for the past half.

Gav: Half an hour and I didn't even ask what number show it was.

Gav: Anyway, my name is

Gav: if it's backwards it'd be Vag, but it's not, it's Gav!

Dan: Well, my name is Dan and if it was backwards it would be Nad, which is uh

Dan: Imagine

Dan: a British

Dan: pr

Dan: Nads

Dan: are British slang

Dan: for

Dan: Testicles.

Dan: So

Dan: I am

Dan: a singular testicle and you I

Dan: bagged a vagina.

Gav: Could be a vagina.

Gav: And still

Gav: and still

Gav: the anagram of my name is Vagina

Gav: Hero, which is really random, and that is true.

Gav: Absolutely

Gav: 100%

Gav: true.

Gav: The only anagram my name,

Gav: full name, is

Gav: So

Dan: he's the vagina hero

Dan: this city needs

Dan: under.

Gav: Anyway, that's a weird one.

Gav: We're back everybody

Gav: as you can tell

Gav: straight away we're talking about nads and vaginas.

Gav: This is uh

Gav: not a Halloween episode, but it is upon us.

Gav: the spooky season of October, isn't it Daniel?

Gav: Mm

Dan: it is indeed, yes.

Dan: Um

Dan: we are very

Dan: uh

Dan: autumnal, very full, very

Dan: Halloweeny.

Dan: My house has already got a few little Halloween

Dan: decorations up.

Dan: We'll get more into that in a minute, but we've already started well I've already started to make

Dan: 31 days of Halloween.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Um

Dan: and a lot of our listeners and followers on Facebook are posting

Dan: what they're watching.

Dan: Um obviously we'll save a lot of the excitement for our Halloween

Dan: episode.

Dan: This is more of a comeback episode.

Dan: Like LL Call

Dan: J

Dan: said, don't call it a comeback.

Dan: We've been here for years.

Dan: 13 years in fact.

Dan: Because today

Dan: is, weirdly, exactly 13 years to the day that Gav and I shared uh a hotel room together and conceived the idea of doing a podcast.

Gav: I don't remember those lyrics from that

Gav: local

Gav: J

Gav: song.

Dan: That was the remix

Dan: without

Dan: with

Dan: Pete

Dan: Diddy.

Dan: Um

Dan: there

Gav: was no lovemaking in the hotel, Daniel uh

Gav: we were m uh

Gav: we were mentally lovemaking with words of horror

Dan: We were actually writing a script.

Dan: We met a way

Dan: to work together.

Gav: We we were

Gav: we'd had some beers and we were lying in bed and it was dark

Gav: And we were just fucking talking for about two hours about horror movies.

Gav: And

Gav: you were like, we should fucking record this.

Gav: And I was like, yeah, probably should, shouldn't we?

Gav: It was like a uh an episode.

Gav: It was just like

Gav: this is

Gav: I dunno, it works.

Dan: If only I knew someone

Dan: I said

Dan: who had sound production equipment and audio equipment and did it as part of their

Dan: hobby

Dan: slash

Dan: Career.

Gav: Yeah, uh it was very

Gav: good.

Gav: It's very easy to do

Gav: actually because I knew audio stuff, but I had never podcast, but I knew microphones, etcetera, etcetera.

Gav: I'd like to say nowadays, uh

Gav: funny enough stuff,

Gav: still using the exact same Zoom H

Gav: 4N recorder which you can pick up now

Gav: second hand for about 70 quid.

Gav: I'm still using that as our recorder

Gav: and it still works fine.

Gav: Um I was thinking of getting a bigger one actually with

Gav: actual faders and stuff

Gav: and some

Gav: little buttons where we can pr

Gav: I can press the uh

Gav: Little

Gav: s uh the

Gav: little

Gav: you know little

Dan: Yeah

Dan: like

Dan: sound effects and stuff.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: I mean

Dan: it took me twelve years to buy a mic

Dan: a decent mic microphone.

Gav: I did

Gav: you better use it because

Gav: I've got one

Gav: I

Dan: know.

Dan: Well that's the other thing I was gonna say.

Dan: So

Dan: thirteen years, unlucky for some.

Dan: Um

Dan: so that means that when we get to our

Dan: Christmas episode, that will be our thirteenth anniversary officially, 'cause our first ever episode was a Christmas episode.

Dan: Um

Dan: however, obviously this is our thirteenth year.

Dan: podcasting and it has been a slightly unlucky podcast with regards to you

Dan: lovely listeners because you haven't had very many episodes this year and I do apologise

Dan: for that.

Dan: Uh

Dan: not to get into it too much, but everybody knows

Dan: sadly

Dan: I lost my dad

Dan: uh

Dan: Boxing Day 2025.

Dan: That was pretty tough.

Dan: That's why not a lot of output happened at the beginning of the year.

Dan: Then we started getting back on track.

Dan: We did a couple of episodes here and there.

Dan: However I

Dan: I am now in the process of well I've just moved

Dan: house.

Dan: Just bought a new house.

Dan: I'm gonna go have um

Gav: basically

Gav: likes to throw

Gav: All the most stressful things together, uh

Gav: obviously it's not

Gav: by choice at times, but buying a house, you know, and yeah, to throw it all together and go

Gav: right, I'm gonna fucking just t

Gav: attack it all at once.

Dan: Yeah, I mean

Dan: I'll be brutally honest with with

Dan: I said to Gaboff Air listeners, um, you know, I got married

Dan: my

Dan: mum passed away six days before I got married, so that was like uh one of life's hugest

Dan: you know, terrible things that can happen mixed with one of the best things that can happen to you

Dan: all

Dan: in a week.

Dan: And then this year I've lost my dad but I've also bought my dream home.

Dan: Like

Dan: it's a beautiful house.

Dan: I'm currently in

Dan: pretty much a little recording booth

Dan: really.

Dan: It's just fantastic.

Dan: It's got three floors, three toilets, in case I need to do three shits.

Dan: Um

Dan: and I love it.

Gav: So

Gav: if you

Gav: start in one

Gav: Snip it off a little

Gav: upstairs

Gav: carry on and see if you can get a trimester

Gav: trimester

Gav: try

Gav: try something

Gav: Of uh uh toilet poop in

Gav: triumph.

Gav: I'd think it'd be a

Gav: poop in each toilet.

Dan: Well I'll have to explain to Alice where there was a brain a brain trail um going

Dan: up the stairs.

Dan: But

Dan: um

Dan: Yeah, so I'm also currently in the process of preparing my dad's estate and his house to sell.

Dan: So that in itself is quite emotionally heavy and stressful.

Dan: Hence why I haven't really been in the mindset to record.

Dan: So

Dan: Thank you.

Dan: I really want to extend genuine thank you to firstly

Dan: to Gav

Dan: for always checking in on me

Dan: and some of my close friends, Icon

Dan: Jay and other guys

Dan: But but also to some of you listeners and patrons who've also sent me private messages.

Dan: But also just generally to everybody

Dan: for sticking with the Facebook page, following us, patrons still supporting in a monetary fashion

Dan: and then

Dan: stick in with us

Dan: because

Dan: you seem to understand that sometimes life life just gets in the way and um

Dan: yeah it certainly has for me this year

Dan: so that's our thirteenth year of podcasting

Dan: hopefully

Dan: moving into

Dan: our 14th

Dan: year

Dan: Next year, things will be on the up.

Dan: We'll be bringing out a show every week.

Dan: We'll be the new Joe Rogans of podcasting.

Dan: Um

Dan: and you know

Dan: Things will be on the up.

Gav: I'm not sure uh

Gav: shaking his head.

Gav: Yeah, not sure in the hemisphere anymore, which should be a Joe Rogan style podcast or

Dan: No, maybe

Dan: maybe not Joe Rogan.

Gav: Which is a such a shame because I used to listen to him a lot.

Gav: Um uh

Gav: uh

Gav: I s

Gav: you know, I still do enjoy the alien

Gav: stuff

Gav: he gets on and talk about because it's a good place to hear some of the people he gets on because they don't go on other shows.

Gav: But

Gav: uh

Gav: I've

Gav: kind of

Gav: the restaurant's a bit cold.

Dan: Imagine coming out of a coma and saying, oh yeah, I've been been in a coma for five years.

Dan: Yeah, how are you, right?

Dan: Yeah, yeah.

Dan: Can I get some Joe Rogan?

Dan: Oh, you might not want to listen to him

Dan: that that much anymore.

Dan: Oh, no worries.

Dan: Where's my P Diddy

Dan: C D?

Dan: Oh

Dan: I wouldn't listen to that.

Dan: Oh

Dan: okay, can I grab that

Dan: can I grab that R.

Dan: Kelly one?

Dan: No.

Gav: I was uh

Gav: yeah, uh

Gav: this

Gav: corner shop was going by and I could see this dude looking at DVDs outside this shop and I was like fuck it.

Gav: So I quickly swung in, just pulled up on

Gav: some double yellows and all

Gav: and it is a house clearance.

Gav: place.

Gav: So I

Gav: quickly had a quick look there and I

Gav: went for the vinyl and I found a Jimmy Savile

Gav: record.

Gav: Oh

Dan: Wow.

Dan: Was it twelve inch?

Gav: I'm not even gonna get into

Gav: it.

Gav: But

Gav: anyway

Dan: eight inch.

Gav: It was a Jimmy.

Gav: So yeah.

Gav: Anyway, we're back again though, so thanks for staying with us

Gav: is what Dan was saying and um

Gav: uh sorry for the

Gav: everything you've had to go for

Gav: Dan

Gav: life's

Gav: what

Gav: life's thrown at you and the emotions you've had to endure with it.

Gav: But you're doing well, my friend, you're doing well, and I feel this is a good way for you to have a

Gav: therapy through talking horror

Gav: with with Buddy Gav

Dan: Indeed, no, thank you.

Dan: And

Dan: just to you've already clicked the show so you know what the episode is, but this it is a

Dan: Um

Dan: this is the lovely

Dan: Holly's pick who

Dan: I do apologize, Holly, you picked this quite a long time ago.

Gav: Sorry.

Dan: And

Dan: actually back back in the days when our format was too

Dan: um

Dan: two movies back to back.

Dan: Obviously we've reduced that down

Dan: for the time being to just one movie review per per show.

Dan: So originally um

Dan: you

Dan: picked a Betty Davies

Dan: uh

Dan: double bill

Dan: of

Dan: uh The Watcher in the Woods, which is the movie that we're covering.

Dan: Um I did check with Holly and she was happy with that.

Dan: Uh and it was gonna be paired up with Brunt Offerings, which we may cover in the future.

Dan: It's a great movie.

Dan: Um

Dan: but we are going to be covering the 1980 Slack.

Dan: 1981 and I'll get into why that is when we get to it because

Dan: there was a weird thing that happened with this movie when it got released

Dan: and that's the reason it will never be on Disney Plus.

Dan: But this is Disney's probably only horror movie.

Dan: Um

Dan: And it is obviously child-friendly, because it was like a PG, but

Dan: the Watcher

Dan: in the Woods were Betty Davies

Dan: and David McCallum

Dan: from The Man from

Dan: Uncle

Dan: or The Invisible Man

Dan: TV show and all that business.

Dan: So we will be covering that

Dan: In this episode, but as we like to do.

Dan: We want to

Dan: catch up on where we

Dan: Oh

Dan: Well

Dan: you were talking about the PD

Dan: Pie.

Dan: Uh

Dan: we're gonna catch up on what we've been doing, what we've been watching, and where we've been, where we

Dan: Now

Dan: in the world

Dan: and

Dan: other

Dan: events that have happened.

Gav: Uh well, uh

Gav: uh

Gav: I've watched lots of things since we last podcast, so I'm not gonna

Gav: I started

Gav: got to this point

Gav: as I said

Gav: Sarah,

Gav: not

Gav: gonna bother carry on filling this list.

Gav: It's it's huge and n none of this I'll remember.

Gav: I have

Gav: any

Gav: no memory of this.

Gav: At least two months have passed and I've got no memory

Gav: Uh

Gav: uh

Gav: we did

Gav: Sarah and I feel

Gav: I feel

Gav: not I wouldn't have mentioned it because I've been podcasting.

Gav: Sarah and I did uh recently

Gav: watch a movie and we got to a certain point and we're like

Gav: fucking

Gav: seen this haven't we?

Gav: Like

Gav: Seems familiar.

Gav: No, I don't think so.

Gav: And I was like, we fucking said

Gav: it was Clint

Gav: Eastwood movie.

Gav: It was Clint Eastwood movie.

Gav: Oh, I thought it was the end

Gav: of Juror.

Gav: Juror

Gav: number two, I think it is.

Gav: We're watching that and it got to and I was

Gav: and I was

Gav: actually even spoke to my mum that day and said, Oh what are you up to?

Gav: And I said, Oh, it's a Sunday afternoon, sir, and I'm gonna cozy

Gav: up and watch like a Clint Eastwood's court

Gav: drum drama movie because it's a sort of Sunday afternoon thing

Gav: And I was

Gav: I'm looking really

Gav: looking forward to it and I was generally

Gav: looking forward to it and put it on and I was like

Gav: fuck it

Gav: We've seen it and I've

Gav: I was like

Gav: how

Gav: could we have both forgotten this?

Gav: It's not it's not an old film either so we must have watched it fairly recently

Gav: but

Gav: So

Gav: my list isn't huge be

Gav: well it

Gav: was but I cut it off because I was

Gav: what's the fucking point?

Gav: I don't remember any of it.

Gav: Um

Gav: I'll tell you one thing very quickly before we get into the list something

Gav: did happen which I had to mention because it's

Gav: amusing is

Gav: it

Gav: involves my dad.

Gav: Um, and it's not like when, you know

Gav: m

Gav: we've got

Gav: had those daughters before of my parents.

Gav: My mum

Gav: at

Gav: time when she said to me

Gav: what

Gav: is it she said to me who

Gav: died?

Dan: She said, Oh

Dan: Gav, that fella that played the Pink Panthers

Dan: dies.

Gav: That's it, yeah.

Dan: And it was it was Tadwit Bozeman who obviously played Marvel's Black Panther.

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: That sort of thing.

Gav: So

Gav: um

Gav: This is classic.

Gav: My uh this

Gav: my uncle had passed away and we were

Gav: gone

Gav: funeral.

Gav: My parents were gonna just have a little wake in the back garden.

Gav: So we went

Gav: And we're all sort of sitting under the gazebo

Gav: bit and sitting there.

Gav: I'm the youngest there and I'm 50 in January.

Gav: So

Gav: there we go.

Gav: And

Gav: um

Gav: a few people

Gav: then

Gav: a couple of people

Gav: actually there's a guy I went to school with actually uh

Gav: not far away from me.

Gav: Uh he's he's one of the undertakers nowadays, so he was there.

Gav: Um

Gav: anyway, so he

Gav: He was there sitting over in a distance with his mum for

Gav: now.

Gav: My dad's sitting close to me and he just looks over to him and says, What's wrong with you guys?

Gav: Have you got AIDS?

Gav: Then

Gav: laughs to himself

Gav: So my dad

Gav: my dad pulled out an age joke and he laughed himself and it was just like

Gav: I think my dad thinks it's 86

Gav: and he's down the Legion with his mates

Gav: And that's a joke that they probably pulled on someone.

Gav: What's wrong with you mate?

Gav: You got age

Gav: over

Gav: there?

Gav: And he thought it was really amusing.

Gav: I was just like I just

Gav: went,

Gav: oh

Gav: my god.

Gav: Like

Gav: d

Gav: like

Gav: dad, you can't say that.

Gav: Like

Gav: It's

Gav: it's not really it's not

Gav: bad, but it

Gav: you're telling

Gav: us to throw out age jokes.

Gav: Nilly

Gav: willy, you know, it's twenty

Gav: twenty-six.

Dan: Yeah, I mean AIDS is pretty much treatable now.

Gav: It's not even really a joke anymore, really.

Gav: And

Gav: even

Gav: though not

Gav: it wasn't

Gav: a joke in the first place, that's wrong.

Gav: I don't mean that in any way.

Gav: Um but

Gav: do you I mean for for people like that who would be like

Gav: oh

Gav: Broken

Gav: age joke sort of thing.

Gav: It's not even

Gav: it's not even

Gav: it's so irrelevant.

Gav: It was so

Gav: it's like my literally not

Gav: my dad to stepped back into 86 and he's down the Legion

Gav: drunk

Gav: And it was just

Gav: like, oh my god, where are

Gav: where

Gav: what's going on?

Gav: And I've kept that note for such a long time to mention on this podcast.

Dan: Well thank you.

Dan: I'm glad to hear that your dad's making really dated

Gav: jokes.

Gav: Anyway, I've watched

Gav: I've watched lots of films.

Gav: I did check out again, I haven't seen it for a long time.

Gav: I managed to pick up Sarah

Gav: a Blu-ray copy in my local charity shop of The Company of Wolves, which I watched from

Gav: my grand

Gav: um which is a connection to today

Gav: today's film I actually watched with my grand when I was a kid.

Gav: Um

Gav: and it was really good to watch that movie again and it's

Gav: really weird though, like it's it's

Gav: A strange film which

Gav: um

Gav: I think it's because it's

Gav: I don't think it

Gav: done so well because

Gav: the effects are really good.

Gav: I don't think it done so well because it's quite a period piece.

Gav: I think that's the issue

Dan: It's a dark, very dark fairy tale, and I think

Dan: it didn't know it didn't know how to mark itself

Dan: because it obviously everyone was just like

Gav: this is a horror movie.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: But it's quite

Dan: a

Dan: real horror movie.

Dan: Uh and it's more of a

Dan: T

Dan: fairy tale really, I mean I I have a memory of that.

Dan: I was

Dan: very young and it was on television.

Dan: Uh

Dan: or my mum was watching it in some

Dan: capacity

Dan: and I was delirious.

Dan: I had a fever and I remember coming downstairs to tell my mum that I was about to be sick

Dan: and she was watching

Dan: Company of Wolves

Dan: ironing.

Dan: This is about eleven

Dan: PM

Dan: at night.

Dan: She was ironing

Dan: our

Dan: school uniforms.

Dan: Just as I walked in the room there's a bit where the head got chopped off and lands in the

Dan: locked.

Dan: And I just remember looking at

Dan: I

Dan: just looked at the sort of TV and looked at her and then just went

Dan: through

Gav: Did

Gav: you?

Dan: So that move

Dan: that movie really stuck with

Dan: I was gonna be sick anyway, didn't that

Gav: Oh okay.

Gav: That didn't help it but

Gav: my mum was just like

Gav: I I was always

Gav: 'cause I watched that with my grand

Gav: just laying there as a little

Gav: kid and just been like

Gav: the hell

Gav: she's like

Gav: I've recorded a movie for us to watch

Gav: okay

Gav: gran

Dan: it's got Angela

Dan: Nam's

Gav: who plays like a Gran in it and stuff so I'm there with my gran

Gav: who's there knitting away or whatever

Gav: watching this movie

Gav: And at that point

Gav: there it goes into the milk and it all goes all pinky because of the blood and stuff and I was really like

Gav: like

Gav: like uh

Gav: grossed out by that whole head in the milk

Gav: And and the face

Gav: the werewolf face

Gav: pulling through the human face

Gav: was quite horrible as well.

Dan: Great effects.

Gav: Really good effects and I think it really

Gav: just

Gav: I think that's the problem.

Gav: It doesn't know what it's doing.

Gav: It's like

Gav: kinda bit

Gav: like

Gav: why

Gav: you

Gav: Why are you doing it like this?

Gav: Um

Gav: I did watch

Gav: also something

Gav: Sarah

Gav: Lemp

Gav: um said to me

Gav: check

Gav: out which I hadn't

Gav: is how to get heading advertising

Gav: Uh

Dan: yes, with Richard

Dan: E.

Dan: Graham.

Gav: Yeah, where he grows a little

Gav: head.

Dan: Yeah, good movie.

Gav: Yeah, I'd never seen it before it's quite good.

Gav: Um another one which we want to check out.

Gav: So I did part one and part two but didn't do part three is The Stepfather

Gav: I'd remembered that movie and I just wanted to watch it.

Gav: I would say that's worth recommend

Gav: uh

Gav: worth reviewing at some stage.

Dan: It's on my li

Dan: it's on our list.

Dan: Um

Dan: Mm

Dan: the first one is is is

Dan: sp

Dan: especially really good and really dark.

Dan: Especially when you realize

Gav: hey

Gav: but first one's pretty good.

Gav: Yeah the fact that

Gav: he's just setting up

Gav: setting up life in the

Gav: different towns and stuff, pre

Gav: like

Gav: internet, pre

Gav: where you can search someone's

Gav: See where they are and stuff at.

Gav: It was

Gav: yeah, it's very

Gav: very

Gav: um

Gav: uh

Gav: kind of Ted Bundy in the way

Gav: he would be a serial killer, you can imagine

Dan: Great

Dan: great acting as well

Dan: from that guy.

Dan: Uh

Gav: uh

Gav: watched Ren You're not two, didn't like it.

Gav: It was pretty much the same

Gav: as the first movie, it's been

Gav: like

Gav: I

Gav: don't know why this

Gav: exists.

Dan: I haven't seen it yet, but I

Dan: the first movie I'd watched recently again

Dan: for the second time

Dan: and thought

Dan: I think this is a little bit overrated.

Dan: I really like this set.

Dan: But

Dan: if I want to watch that movie, do you know what I watch?

Dan: I watch

Dan: Get Out

Dan: because

Dan: that's yeah pretty much the same movie

Dan: you

Dan: know what I mean?

Gav: And uh uh

Gav: I'm a massive fan of that recent, fairly a more recent movie, The Hunt

Dan: Yes, that's great.

Dan: We can

Gav: that's a really good movie, yeah.

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: Um

Gav: excuse me, uh

Gav: we had a few heat waves

Gav: I did get

Gav: Pick up a Blu-ray copy of Not with a Big Heap.

Gav: I've mentioned that movie before.

Gav: I did watch the recent most recent Final Destination movie.

Gav: Have you seen that?

Dan: Bloodlines, no, not yet.

Dan: Really

Dan: good.

Dan: I've heard it's

Dan: yeah, I've heard it

Dan: it's really good and I've heard it's um

Dan: quite emotional with Tony.

Gav: There's a dude who's got a penis piercing

Gav: and he gets caught and I think

Gav: a fan.

Gav: Oh

Dan: no, no, no

Dan: No no no no no no no no no

Gav: uh I watched Whistle

Gav: Coronardy's new film, uh wasn't really into it.

Gav: It felt like an 80s type sort of film, but I

Gav: lost interest.

Gav: Midpoint.

Gav: Um

Gav: I

Gav: didn't watch uh the new Eli Ross

Gav: Ice Cream Man, but I did go back and watch

Gav: the ice cream man

Gav: with um

Gav: um

Dan: Ron Howard's brother?

Gav: Yes

Gav: Clint

Gav: Clint

Gav: Hell.

Gav: Terrible, terrible, terrible movie.

Gav: Um and cause Sarah and I were gonna think of do it for a patron episode, but we didn't, so

Gav: um I ended up watching Demon Warp and I was like, let's do that as a patron episode which

Gav: we

Gav: released for you patrons

Dan: That reminds me, if I just may

Dan: pause you there.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: If I just may pause you there, thank big thank you to Sarah for stepping into my stinky

Dan: shoes on uh quite a few patron episodes for our dear patron episode.

Dan: supporters as well.

Dan: Thank you, Sarah.

Dan: You are very much loved and appreciated.

Dan: Thank you for being down.

Gav: She took some notes for me, which was great.

Gav: But we did that and demonstrate

Gav: Look uh uh

Gav: if you're not a patron though Demon Warp

Gav: 's a fantastic uh

Gav: crazy film, only something which would come out of the eighties

Gav: and well worth a watch and on

Gav: Prime still at the moment

Gav: UK um

Gav: but I don't know check check where you are

Gav: Uh

Gav: watched a few other things and I did check out that John

Gav: Candy documentary very quickly which I really appreciated

Gav: and I completely understand

Gav: his anxiety

Gav: that he had like being away from his family and stuff like that.

Gav: I completely get that.

Gav: uh

Gav: understand where he's coming

Gav: from.

Gav: Um

Gav: and I felt sorry for him in a

Gav: way.

Gav: Um but yeah, that was a good watch.

Gav: It was

Gav: enjoyable.

Gav: It is really good.

Gav: Uh I've got Apple subscription at the moment.

Gav: Oh

Gav: that

Gav: takes you on the same council

Gav: watch then I'll let you speak.

Gav: Um and there's a

Gav: Steve Martin documentary on there, which I think I might check out.

Gav: Okay, yeah, Apple subscription.

Gav: Very quickly say this and then I'll let you talk.

Gav: There's a really fantastic show on there

Gav: called Widows

Gav: Bay

Gav: which

Gav: is kind of like

Gav: the

Gav: the

Gav: little

Gav: town of Amity, uh

Gav: in

Gav: Jaws

Gav: 'Cause they

Gav: always class

Gav: themselves as wanting to be the next Martha's Vineyard.

Gav: Which um

Gav: isn't that

Gav: isn't that the town of Amity

Gav: Martha's Vineyard?

Gav: Yes.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Well that's where it was really shocking.

Dan: So th they

Gav: even mention that in this

Gav: And it's kind of got this creepy fog

Gav: that comes in and each episode

Gav: is

Gav: kind of like an

Gav: a different spooky thing.

Gav: And basically the town's kind of cursed

Gav: But it's really good and it's got real good

Gav: dry

Gav: sense of humor in it as well.

Gav: Really cool stuff.

Gav: So yeah.

Dan: It's getting really good reviews.

Gav: Really enjoyable.

Gav: I've still got about four episodes to watch me and Charlie

Gav: have been really enjoying watching it.

Gav: Oh and another thing very

Gav: very very very very very cool.

Gav: quickly

Gav: tomorrow night Charlie and I are off to the theatre to watch paranormal activity live.

Dan: Wow.

Gav: I know.

Gav: I

Dan: would

Dan: shit myself.

Gav: I can't fucking wait.

Gav: Apparently you've got really good seats as well

Dan: I would I would shit myself

Dan: because I that's one of the few movies for some reason that first one

Dan: really scared me.

Dan: And

Gav: I

Gav: watched something.

Gav: And obviously they've built a set of the houses and the rooms.

Gav: So

Gav: next episode I'll let you guys know what it's like.

Dan: Amazing.

Dan: That sounds really cool.

Gav: Yep.

Dan: I love stuff like that.

Gav: Yeah, immersive.

Gav: It's not

Gav: not immersive, but

Gav: In a sense, it's not a good idea.

Dan: It kind of is.

Dan: I wanna I've always wanted to see the woman in black because apparently the stage production

Dan: is really immersive.

Dan: And she creeps around the audience, she pops out from different places.

Dan: Um

Dan: and apparently that's that's really creepy.

Dan: I saw um

Dan: Not horror, but I saw Spider

Dan: Man turn off the dark in on Broadway, New York, um with Alice

Dan: about ten years ago and that was fully immersive.

Dan: Like all of a sudden the Green Goblin would be flight flying over your head

Dan: and then like

Dan: sp

Dan: Spider-Man would be swinging past you

Dan: and they had all these acrobats and guys dressed up in like Spider-Man gear and it was just incredible.

Dan: Like

Dan: it felt like

Dan: Just I've never had an experience like it.

Dan: So it

Dan: something to be said for that kind of thing.

Dan: That's cool.

Gav: Um

Gav: Yes, uh

Gav: did go to Frightfest as well, but uh

Gav: at the end of this segment uh we might hear from Gav at Frightfests.

Gav: Past

Gav: Gav

Gav: at Frightfest.

Dan: Past

Dan: Gav in London Frightfest.

Gav: Daniel.

Dan: He's waiting.

Dan: He's waiting for it to speak to us.

Dan: Uh

Dan: what

Dan: have I been watching?

Dan: I've watched

Dan: Been been watching Bits and Bobs.

Dan: I've not really been in the mood for an awful lot.

Dan: Um

Dan: and I've also been extremely tired

Dan: from work and other stuff.

Dan: But um

Dan: I'll quickly

Dan: go through a very brief list

Dan: The first

Dan: one I wanted to mention was one that Gav recommended to me a long time ago and I think it's talked well on this show.

Dan: And it's weirdly on Disney Plus, and that's called The Edge.

Dan: with

Dan: Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin and Elm McPherson.

Dan: If you want a proper sort of 90s

Dan: Forest set

Dan: uh

Dan: thriller

Dan: About two guys trying to survive and a bear, throw a bear in the mix, you know, Anthony Hopkins fighting a bear and all this kind of stuff.

Dan: It's really good.

Dan: I really enjoyed it.

Dan: Um

Dan: it was just what I needed

Dan: really.

Dan: Um

Dan: the only horror movie really

Dan: that I would mention

Dan: on this list.

Dan: I don't know there's a couple on here, but the main one I mentioned and I know Gab wasn't a fan of it and it's really split audiences.

Dan: I'm finally got around to watching Shyamalan

Dan: 's

Dan: trap

Dan: with

Dan: Josh Hartnett.

Dan: Um

Gav: crap

Gav: digital.

Gav: Uh

Dan: yes, exactly.

Dan: So

Dan: I really enjoyed it.

Dan: Um

Dan: I know a lot of people don't and I know a lot of people like the first half but not the second half.

Dan: And that seems to be like the deal with Shamel

Dan: and

Dan: Um

Dan: and I know Gav, you are a Shyamalan fan for the most for the first part of his career at least anyway, as am I.

Dan: And I like the most of what he's done.

Dan: I understand why people didn't like it, but for me it had some good twists in it.

Dan: The twist isn't

Dan: that he is the killer because you find that out in the trailers, you find that out within the first few minutes.

Dan: The twists were later on

Dan: to do with what the singer decides to do and then later on again r

Dan: in the final

Dan: act

Dan: So they were really interesting twists for me.

Dan: What I liked about it the most though

Dan: was firstly that concept of that kind of like diehard

Dan: setting, you know, where someone's in

Dan: an arena or something like that.

Dan: But also I really loved

Dan: seeing Josh Hartnett as a baddie.

Dan: He

Dan: seemed to be having a lot of fun in that role and I'd like to see him do more of that.

Dan: 'Cause I quite liked him at the end of Thirty Days of Night when he becomes a gnarly

Dan: vamp

Dan: for the last few seconds.

Dan: I thought

Dan: this guy could be

Dan: You know, he was almost a bit of a baddie in the faculty for a little bit as well.

Dan: So I'd like to see him do more of that as he's got older.

Dan: He's kinda going down the same route as um

Dan: Ethan Hawke.

Dan: He used to be this heart throb

Dan: and now he's doing

Dan: and he's still like a good looking guy or whatever, but he's now because he's older, he's playing

Dan: dads.

Dan: and he's also playing like bad guys so I'd quite like to see that.

Dan: But I liked Trap.

Dan: I didn't give it a massively high score but I gave it six out of ten

Dan: And I enjoyed watching it.

Dan: I didn't know where it was gonna go.

Gav: Yeah, I just like

Gav: I just like

Gav: the um i

Gav: concept of him being trapped in a massive area.

Gav: Like that.

Gav: I quite like that.

Gav: And then when he

Gav: escaped that area, it's just

Gav: the concept ran out the window for me and that's

Gav: I was enjoying that.

Gav: And then

Dan: Chimmelin

Dan: had

Gav: I I I imagine like uh

Gav: budget wise uh that that would

Gav: cost

Gav: a lot of money so you can't put the whole movie there.

Gav: But

Dan: I I feel like Shyamelin had

Dan: watched a lot of Columbo

Dan: Because it was basically a big budget Colombo episode where you find out who the murderer is right at the beginning

Dan: and then you're kind of almost rooting for them.

Dan: A bit like psycho.

Dan: It was a bit like psycho

Dan: in that you're rooting for the bad guy.

Dan: You don't realise it.

Dan: You're hoping that they kind of escape.

Gav: Almost Spielberg like

Gav: uh

Gav: famously Spielberg's first directoral jobs was Columbo episodes, so

Dan: Yeah, yeah

Dan: There we go.

Dan: Um

Dan: I watched the Mandalorian and Grogu movie.

Dan: I didn't see it in the theatres, um, and I'm glad I didn't.

Dan: It was a huge disappointment

Dan: It had some fun elements, great action, but I'm gonna skip over that.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Sure, I'm not sure.

Dan: Do you think you

Gav: get more enjoyment watching it at home?

Gav: Because I knew I'm not a massive fan of this and I understand, but I did watch actually that that th

Gav: that TV show.

Gav: What's it called?

Dan: Mandalorian.

Gav: I did watch some of that stuff and I I didn't mind that actually.

Gav: I quite like the kind of uh uh the Clinton

Gav: Eastwood man with no

Gav: name type sort of scenario sort of going on.

Gav: I enjoyed that theme for it.

Gav: Um

Gav: but even I knew when this was coming out and I was just

Gav: like

Gav: But it's you've already established this as a TV show and then you're gonna try and adapt it now to a big screen.

Gav: Surely you have a big screen movie which

Gav: turns to a TV show

Gav: Not the other way around

Gav: because that's

Gav: people's

Gav: it's not gonna r

Gav: it's not gonna translate to the big screen.

Gav: You can sit there and go, why am I bothering?

Gav: I could be watching this at home.

Gav: Why, why, why

Gav: I

Gav: I'm guessing?

Gav: I don't know

Gav: Hmm.

Dan: Yeah, I

Dan: I mean

Dan: there is a story behind it which I mentioned to you often

Dan: where

Dan: but it's basically Disney milking the Grogu

Dan: merchandise for all they can

Dan: And it didn't work, sadly.

Dan: Um

Dan: Star Wars needs a break, in my opinion.

Dan: There is another Star Wars movie coming out next year

Dan: with Ryan Gosling.

Gav: Um

Gav: I don't

Gav: see

Gav: people even

Gav: following that stuff anymore.

Gav: I don't see

Gav: no

Gav: the fa

Gav: it

Gav: it

Gav: it's funny because I I don't really get into it too much, but on Facebook

Gav: You see the waves of different things which are popular.

Gav: I I follow my Facebook is a

Gav: basically

Gav: mainly lots of film groups.

Gav: That's what it is most of the time.

Gav: So I'm going through and I see what's popular and you see

Gav: the same sort of

Gav: feeds

Gav: coming up at time or certain movies and stuff and more

Gav: as popular at time and obviously at her

Gav: stage was

Gav: all marvels and stuff like that.

Gav: But yeah I don't I don't know

Gav: Um

Dan: there was a night where I was feeling particularly low and

Dan: very sad

Dan: and

Dan: you'd just sent me the patron episode um that you did with Sarah

Dan: Demon Warp

Dan: and I published it.

Dan: And I thought, this is the kind of film I think I need tonight.

Dan: And I put it on

Dan: and for 90 minutes

Dan: I was in heaven

Dan: because

Dan: it was big

Dan: foot.

Dan: At times you're going, no

Gav: what's going on?

Dan: It was devil worshipping cult, aliens, bigfoot, ghosts.

Dan: It just had

Dan: it was like someone had just puked up a loads of supernatural stuff.

Dan: It had it all in it and it was

Dan: Just silly, fun

Dan: some

Dan: quite good effects.

Gav: Only made in the eighties.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: And I highly recommend Demon Warp from nineteen

Dan: eighty eight

Dan: if you haven't seen its

Gav: Fuck me, I love George Kennedy.

Gav: How many how many movies do you want

Gav: to turn on?

Gav: He's like

Gav: fucking John

Gav: Saxon.

Gav: And they're both they're both exactly the same actually.

Gav: You turn on the movie and go, nice

Gav: It's George Kennedy in it.

Gav: And it's an um

Gav: 80s obscure horror movie.

Gav: And then it's like, oh nice.

Gav: John

Gav: Saxon's in this

Gav: strange Italian horror movie I don't know about.

Gav: You know, it's brilliant.

Dan: Yeah, really good stuff.

Gav: Didn't board scrape check it out, people.

Dan: Uh you watched the uh

Dan: John Candy one which I'd recommended to you.

Dan: The one I

Dan: watched recently, which I was very disappointed with 'cause it was only forty-five minutes long, was the Mr.

Dan: T

Dan: documentary.

Dan: That should have been like a four or five part.

Gav: I don't think he was happier, apparently.

Gav: Uh I've not looked into

Gav: those.

Dan: It's a shame

Dan: because

Dan: I did learn a lot about him.

Dan: Um

Dan: he's an incredibly

Dan: like

Dan: he's

Dan: what

Dan: What a genuine

Dan: hero.

Gav: Like when his daughter said

Gav: his daughter's like

Gav: I didn't know him at all and then one day I didn't think anything of it at all and one day he turned up to pick me up at school.

Gav: So like

Gav: anybody

Gav: wants to pick

Gav: up at school

Gav: because of this reason

Gav: And

Gav: like

Gav: everybody flooded him and he's like, Oh my god, it's Mr.

Gav: T

Gav: She had no idea

Gav: when she was at school that he was like

Gav: that known and popular.

Gav: Imagine that if your dad

Gav: being like,

Gav: Oh my god, my dad's like

Gav: loved

Dan: He's got incredible philosophy

Dan: life philosophy.

Gav: Yeah, yeah.

Dan: He came from the streets and he was involved in some dodgy stuff back in the day, but he was quickly became a banker

Dan: security guy.

Gav: I think he killed the people who

Gav: robbed his mum

Gav: He alludes to it.

Dan: I mean that's that

Dan: that story is.

Gav: He alludes to that.

Dan: I mean, yeah, if

Dan: if you've

Dan: listed

Dan: basically listeners, if you haven't seen it, there's a there's a point where he when he was younger

Dan: Some people robbed his mum at knife point, I think.

Dan: They didn't hurt her.

Dan: They just took a few.

Gav: Meaning he's going up to people and fucking

Gav: going

Gav: oh

Gav: fuck it.

Gav: Yeah, I

Gav: will

Gav: fuck you up.

Gav: Tell us some names.

Gav: That

Gav: shit

Gav: And then he went and got a baseball battle.

Gav: He said we fang them.

Dan: Yeah, then we went and got my baseball.

Dan: No, he got a gun, he said.

Gav: Oh no, he got a gun, yeah.

Gav: So

Gav: yeah, I reckon he

Gav: uh

Gav: Or he's fucking shot

Gav: me in kneecaps or something, do you know what I mean?

Gav: But no, because he wouldn't though, because in that sort of

Gav: situation, they're just gonna come back and shoot you.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: Won't they?

Gav: Yeah, so you need to like

Gav: take care of business.

Dan: But he he's a really humble guy and I think he deserves a bigger and and sadly I think perhaps when he dies he'll get a a longer

Dan: Because

Dan: we've been really treated like the whole Kogan one

Dan: was incredible

Dan: and we've been really treated to some of these

Dan: fantastic documentary.

Dan: Um

Dan: he died before they finished it, didn't he, at the Hulk

Dan: and one, you know?

Dan: It was really sad.

Gav: It was quite a good documentary.

Gav: It wasn't gonna bother and I was just like, no, I

Gav: I used to like him and he's big f

Gav: big fan, uh friend sorry, of uh Mr.

Gav: T.

Dan: He was.

Dan: Um

Dan: that's kind of it really

Dan: for what I've been watching

Dan: tonight.

Dan: Um on the first

Gav: another

Gav: connection

Gav: to those

Gav: My local charity shop is uh closing down and so

Gav: all the DVDs and things are half price.

Gav: And I was just I

Gav: I watched the first one

Gav: once.

Gav: I don't know if I've seen the others

Gav: when I was a kid, I didn't like it.

Gav: I liked Rambo, I was

Gav: like, I don't

Gav: I fucking like Rocky

Gav: But I got like

Gav: this Rocky box set for one pound fifty.

Gav: And it's got like all the movies in it and stuff.

Gav: Um

Gav: Which obviously

Gav: he

Gav: fights

Gav: Mr.

Gav: T

Gav: and uh uh

Gav: Hulk Hogan.

Dan: Hulk Hogan.

Dan: Part three, yeah.

Gav: So I'm actually gonna think I'm gonna walk sit and watch the Rocky movies.

Gav: I think Sarah

Gav: probably watched a movie.

Dan: Three

Dan: three is fun

Dan: One

Dan: one is good.

Dan: Two is my favourite.

Dan: It's the best.

Dan: It's like a better remake of number one

Dan: in a way.

Dan: In some ways.

Dan: And then three is the silly 80s one.

Dan: Four

Dan: is great because it's fucking Ivan

Dan: Drago, Dolph London.

Dan: absolute beast, you know, and then five is appalling.

Dan: And then I've seen

Dan: Rocky, which is the sixth one, and I've seen

Dan: um

Dan: Uh what's the one with uh

Gav: Boa?

Gav: Oh

Gav: that's a that's a rocky one, isn't it?

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: No, there's

Dan: um

Dan: there's another one isn't there.

Dan: Um

Gav: I don't know.

Gav: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: But that

Dan: they're okay, but they're not.

Dan: But um

Dan: I started

Dan: my

Dan: 31

Dan: Which I'm not gonna obviously dive into now, we'll save that for a Halloween

Dan: episode.

Dan: But my theme

Dan: for this year, because I've got twin five year olds, as everybody know

Dan: is

Dan: the only way I'm gonna do this is I'm gonna watch films with them.

Dan: So I

Dan: put together a list of 31

Dan: child friendly

Dan: Spooky horror movies.

Dan: Um

Dan: to give you an idea, some of the stuff we've watched already

Dan: is like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus

Dan: Pocus, Casper, the Adams

Dan: Family, and then it's gonna be stuff on there like Monster House, Coraline.

Dan: You know, Frank and Weenie, all this kind of stuff.

Dan: Ghostbusters, they've only seen that once.

Dan: I'm gonna watch that with them this year and see how they are with it.

Dan: They might be a bit too scared by it.

Dan: It's quite funny, like

Dan: Being five, they are quite scared by some of the stuff that's coming out in these ones.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Hocus

Dan: Pocus, they couldn't

Dan: Jack particularly couldn't get to the end of Hocus

Dan: Pocus.

Dan: He was too scared of Bet

Dan: Midler in it.

Dan: Which is hilarious

Dan: Um

Dan: Edith

Dan: really she's gonna be my

Dan: um

Dan: little buddy, I think, when she's older and watching horror movies.

Dan: She

Dan: she's really into it.

Dan: Um

Dan: but yeah so that's my theme this year

Dan: so I've been posting up what I've been watching and I'm excited to do that with the kids.

Dan: I've got some good ones on there.

Dan: Uh they've never seen a ratnophobia and that's on the list later on in the month

Dan: So there's a few on there that we're gonna get through and it's it's gonna be fun to watch some of these with them.

Dan: Um

Dan: there's a few that I'd like to watch with them

Dan: like Beetlejuice, but I think that'd just be a bit too much for them

Dan: really.

Dan: Um

Dan: so I'll save that for a couple more years.

Dan: But yeah, so that's what I'm doing at the moment with my Halloween.

Dan: So

Dan: my last few days

Dan: I've just been watching these sort of child friendly horror films really.

Dan: You're not doing a theme this year, is that right?

Dan: You're just

Dan: banging out whatever you can.

Gav: Yeah, I'm just doing what I normally do.

Gav: Um

Gav: I have done a couple of things.

Gav: Um

Gav: yesterday, for example, I actually just did

Gav: because

Gav: um I was doing it with

Gav: Elijah

Gav: I just did

Gav: uh sorry I was

Gav: completely thrown

Gav: there.

Gav: I just did a couple of episodes of Halloween Simpsons.

Gav: Um

Gav: because

Gav: and I like to do that sometimes, just

Gav: go, no, that's cool, that's that's my that's my day

Gav: Today

Gav: of horror

Gav: I did some and it's good.

Gav: I watched an

Gav: brand

Gav: of

Gav: the the most recent one they had, which

Gav: is alright.

Gav: And then I watched an old one

Gav: Um

Gav: I said

Gav: I didn't know which

Gav: I was like to Nigel to choose one um

Gav: and we sat and ate our dinner

Gav: to it and he chose

Gav: one.

Gav: I can't remember which one it was now, but

Gav: Oh it's it's it is a classic one, it's uh where

Gav: Ned

Gav: Uh it gets bitten by werewolf but it turns into an I

Gav: know what you did

Gav: last summer

Gav: scenario.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: That's a good one.

Gav: Um I started off um

Gav: oh and I did Coraline

Gav: as one of mine as well.

Gav: Uh

Gav: Coraline.

Gav: Elijah wanted to watch.

Gav: Uh

Gav: did the backrooms.

Gav: Elijah wanted to watch that.

Gav: Uh as you could tell I've been with Elijah.

Gav: Uh

Gav: and I said to him, Right, he's twelve and it's a fifteen.

Gav: I was like, no, that's alright, cool, I'll rent it out.

Gav: So we rented that out 'cause he knows the lore anyway because

Gav: he plays in, he just knows it.

Gav: because he's on the internet

Gav: and I did rocket

Gav: with number one with Prometheus

Gav: which is such a fantastic movie

Gav: it really is

Dan: Yeah, you're a big fan of that one, aren't you?

Gav: I think it's such a good movie.

Gav: Um but yeah, I I'm gonna this year I do plan on doing the classics to Huby

Gav: Halloween.

Gav: Um

Gav: That's my

Gav: final

Dan: one, but the kids

Dan: are going to be a good thing.

Gav: I know we could do Hellraiser.

Gav: Um

Gav: I might

Gav: Try and do a load of

Gav: Halloween films because I picked them all up on Blu-ray last year.

Dan: Yeah, Halloween's on a Saturday this year, so my final watch will be Hoobie Halloween with the kids on Saturday afternoon and then we'll go out trick or treating

Gav: Yeah, Daisy's like

Gav: I watched the first one review and I was like, alright, cool.

Gav: So it's

Gav: it's my weekend with the kids and

Gav: where they've moved to, that's like we can literally walk step out that door, walk around that the block where they live

Gav: Trickle

Gav: tree

Gav: and then still be back for other people to come around probably while we watch movies, which should be quite cool.

Gav: Um

Gav: she said I'd want to watch the original Halloween Halloween

Gav: review

Gav: And

Gav: uh I said well I wanna do the back to back, so I wanna do the first one, the second one, the originals

Gav: back

Gav: to back, 'cause I've never done it.

Gav: And uh

Gav: very quickly the Halloween t

Gav: uh

Gav: computer game on PS5

Gav: and

Gav: or

Gav: whatever console you play or computer

Gav: is really good.

Gav: You could be m you're

Gav: Michael

Gav: Mars and you're following the first movie

Gav: You're doing

Gav: all the s

Gav: little scenes from the movie, like

Gav: you've got to go and find Laurie and Killer, you know?

Dan: Amazing.

Gav: Really good show.

Dan: You sent me some snippets of the Ukraine.

Gav: So cool, yeah

Dan: Anyway, that's cool.

Gav: That's right.

Dan: So that

Dan: is what we've been watching.

Dan: Gav has also been busy

Dan: in the world of YouTube

Dan: Uh

Dan: there is a new

Dan: YouTube

Dan: channel that you can follow

Dan: called

Gav: The

Gav: Video

Gav: Shop.

Dan: Starring yours

Dan: truly not yours truly, his truly, him

Dan: over there.

Gav: Uh uh yeah, I just wanted to do it

Gav: means to do

Gav: the past couple of years, but I just thought I'd get on with it.

Gav: Um I was waiting for the right flat

Gav: where I had the mice

Gav: right room so I can make it more like a video shop with an actual counter.

Gav: But if I keep waiting, I'm never

Gav: just gonna fucking do it, so I'll just go on

Gav: with it

Gav: And I made it work.

Gav: Um it's me reviewing videotapes from my video collection.

Gav: Each episode is just a little movie that

Gav: no more than 10 minutes

Gav: really.

Gav: Um

Gav: Yeah, that's it

Gav: really.

Gav: Uh and it's called uh

Gav: YouTube, it's the video

Gav: shop rental

Gav: if you're looking for the actual at

Gav: name.

Gav: Um, but that's what it is.

Gav: Come check it out.

Gav: Um, I'd appreciate the views

Gav: It

Dan: it's really good fun.

Dan: I'm not just saying that's because Gav's my friend.

Dan: It's really good fun.

Dan: They're

Dan: bite-sized 10-minute episodes like you've just said.

Dan: Um

Dan: really

Dan: great editing, really fun setup

Dan: background.

Dan: um

Dan: and

Dan: it's very humorous at times um

Dan: and

Dan: like you

Dan: like we discussed

Dan: Opera Fair

Dan: the other day, although a lot of us hardcore horror fans and they're not all horror movies that you're you're sort of recommending

Dan: um

Dan: But you pointed out to me that, you know, actually some of these films are like almost 50 years old.

Dan: And so therefore

Dan: you're you're speaking to an audience who may well have never seen some of these movies, you know.

Dan: And that's quite scary

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: Um

Dan: but um

Dan: I do like the fact that you

Dan: you

Dan: you are like

Dan: it is like being in a video store in the 80s and you are recommending these films.

Dan: And you're sort of saying, Oh

Dan: have you not seen this?

Dan: This is great, you know, you need to

Dan: this is good.

Dan: I'm not gonna spoil it for you, but you know there's a bit

Dan: really good effects at this, just like the guys would have done to us back in the day.

Dan: W

Gav: without going into like

Gav: our

Gav: show

Gav: I

Gav: we review a film all the way through to the end

Gav: This I uh when I do it for the

Gav: that

Gav: I can't.

Gav: I just talk about it a bit.

Gav: I don't even get into the end.

Gav: I don't probably go past halfway, I

Gav: kinda

Gav: stop

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: But yeah,

Dan: please check that out.

Dan: It's on our Facebook page, there's links to it on there, but it is

Dan: um

Dan: the

Dan: um

Gav: I'm just gonna keep doing it.

Gav: So

Dan: The vi

Dan: the video shot rental on on YouTube

Dan: is great.

Gav: The editing is quite nice.

Gav: It's really good.

Gav: Um so like there's a bit of the mum like

Gav: laughing

Gav: And it's a bit

Gav: I sort of mentioned a bit where I sort of just say, well, sh

Gav: you know, she I don't think she expected

Gav: wanted to uh choose a doll

Gav: which has a serial killer

Gav: soul inside it, but maybe she did, and it just cuts to her laughing, a close up of her laughing

Gav: And it's just

Gav: nice I could do stuff like that.

Gav: Um

Gav: so yeah, thanks for watching.

Gav: But yeah, subscribe if you can people and uh watch to the end, otherwise YouTube

Gav: thinks I'm shit if you watch a bit and go, I'll watch that later

Gav: Um

Dan: well before we just go back in the past

Dan: to Gav

Dan: who's waiting, he's been waiting since um

Dan: August

Dan: to

Dan: you know, speak to us about Fright Fest live at the

Dan: Fright Fest.

Dan: Um

Dan: before we

Dan: before we do that, Gabby

Dan: just wanted to say a few words about one of our

Dan: Deadbolt films cohorts, didn't you?

Gav: Yeah, uh

Gav: uh unfortunately uh

Gav: while we've been off the air, Dom, who's one of the managing directors of Deadbolt Films in fact

Gav: had a uh

Gav: serious motorbike accident

Gav: Accident, um, which unfortunately took the life of the guy he was co-riding.

Gav: They were both on Holly Davidson's.

Gav: It wasn't their fault

Gav: Uh I'm not gonna get into it

Gav: for l for legal reasons, what happened.

Gav: Um

Gav: uh

Gav: but he was

Gav: he was left fucked up.

Gav: Um

Gav: he is on the mend, but he's been left fucked up.

Gav: And we

Gav: actually I'll put the uh

Gav: The GoFundMe's still on.

Gav: We're just trying to get him

Gav: five thousand pounds just to get back on his feet a bit because

Gav: um

Gav: at the time

Gav: his house and job had been taken away from him but we're we're

Gav: trying to get things sorted but uh

Gav: for legal reasons again I can't say anything much.

Gav: But he was fucked up basically and obviously there's a lot of trauma going

Gav: for that

Gav: And I I don't wish that upon anyone.

Gav: And Dom was um

Gav: of

Gav: uh Dom was

Gav: our grip um for Deadbolt Films

Gav: um

Gav: and also our

Gav: BA, our

Gav: uh

Gav: of

Gav: the A team so to speak.

Gav: Dom's one of those people who can just do anything.

Gav: Um

Gav: So yeah, he first came on uh when we did Star Wars, he made scripts for us, when we went back for a little re-shoot and then he

Gav: just stayed with us doing

Gav: stuff.

Gav: Um

Gav: and then

Gav: became a

Gav: managing director.

Gav: Um but yes we wish him the very best.

Dan: Yeah,

Dan: if you even if you can just chuck uh five

Dan: pounds into the the GoFundMe

Dan: it would really be appreciated.

Dan: Um

Dan: he's got a lot of physical healing but also mental healing to do

Dan: and he has to

Dan: Get back on his feet with regards to uh

Dan: job, home,

Gav: uh

Gav: therapy is one thing.

Gav: He's kinda been left in the lurch for therapy.

Gav: He's left the hospital now, he's in a hotel.

Gav: Um uh

Gav: but yeah, um

Gav: he doesn't have anything sort of going on, so we're trying to sort something out.

Gav: Um I need to speak to him.

Dan: He would really and we would really appreciate it if anybody out there could take the time, even if you can't donate five pounds, just to share his GoFundMe page, 'cause

Dan: um

Dan: It

Dan: it's a really tough situation he's in.

Gav: Yeah, it's totally.

Gav: Uh and yeah, it's been quite hard for him

Gav: as you can imagine.

Gav: He just

Gav: and he had a point

Gav: when

Gav: he had

Gav: to

Gav: Uh

Gav: uh

Gav: liquidators are trying to take all of his stuff and he had to buy it all back off

Gav: him.

Gav: His own stuff.

Gav: Yep.

Gav: Because they're

Gav: like, nope, this can't be yours.

Gav: Like

Gav: it

Gav: all his tools and machinery and stuff

Gav: So yeah, anyway, I can't it's not really I can get into

Gav: any of it anyway.

Gav: So it's still a

Gav: a uh

Gav: lawyer situation at the moment,

Gav: so

Gav: As

Gav: his

Gav: as his

Gav: co-ho

Gav: co

Gav: drider

Gav: was passed, you know, from the situation.

Gav: Um

Gav: it's quite a big, as you can imagine, legal situation going on

Dan: Yeah, of course, of course.

Gav: But yeah, so that was

Dan: So that is

Dan: yeah, that is

Dan: products to say the least.

Dan: Um so Dom, we like

Dan: you and we're thinking of you, buddy.

Dan: Um

Dan: Uh

Dan: I tell you

Gav: I'll tell you one thing though, uh

Gav: which is quite comical.

Gav: I went down to see him at a hospital, in Southampton Hospital, and we'd got him we'd just managed to get him uh like a wheelchair

Gav: At the time he had a little cafeter

Gav: with a little fucking tap on it, like it was a fucking beer tap, right?

Gav: And I took him a

Gav: I took him a kebab

Gav: down.

Gav: So we pulled put him in a wheelchair, took him outside

Gav: and he's sitting there and I'm feeding him a kebab because he couldn't use his arms at the time, right?

Gav: And and then he had one hand

Gav: head

Gav: kind of use

Gav: and he's just next to the coffee window while people having coffee at the hospital.

Gav: It's a big hospital where it has

Gav: like a subway inside it and everything.

Gav: It's huge.

Gav: Um

Gav: and he just releases his piss

Gav: valve.

Gav: So I'm like, you're eating

Gav: y it's like you're

Gav: like

Gav: on a Friday night down the pub, you're pissing up against the window while you're eating a kebab

Gav: Like I can't

Gav: then the wind came up and he had piss splashes on me.

Gav: Ugh fucking hell, piss splashes.

Gav: So yes,

Gav: um uh

Gav: so thanks for that

Gav: Tom

Dan: Well, that's what we've been watching.

Dan: That's what we've been up to.

Dan: That's the things that have been going on in our lives and other people's lives.

Dan: And once again, thank you for sticking with us.

Dan: We're done with our intro

Dan: Before we wrap up and

Dan: go into

Dan: our

Dan: trailer for The Watcher

Dan: in the Woods,

Dan: go to see if

Dan: Dream Holly.

Dan: We are gonna just quickly

Dan: Go

Dan: beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.

Dan: We're going over to our roving reporter

Dan: past

Dan: Gavin

Dan: live.

Dan: As he he was live

Dan: at uh

Dan: Frightfest 2026

Dan: in London.

Dan: So Gav, are you there?

Gav: Hello, well thank you Gav

Gav: and Dan for that.

Gav: I appreciate that.

Gav: Uh here

Gav: I am at Fright Fest.

Gav: Oh, some

Gav: levels a bit louder there.

Gav: I'm in the car.

Gav: Thought I'd do this.

Gav: I've done this for a few years.

Gav: I've got some people with Tourette's in the car with me, it sounds like.

Gav: I'm with

Gav: John, Ben

Gav: and Mark.

Gav: Everybody

Gav: say hello.

Ben: Goodbye.

Gav: See Ben's Comical, he said goodbye.

Gav: So we're all off the Fright Fest, we don't know what movies we go watch, do we?

Gav: Do we?

Ben: Not sure.

Ben: Five movies.

Gav: But we don't know what they are.

Ben: T

Ben: hyena.

Ben: Uh

Gav: species.

Ben: Species.

Gav: And something else.

Gav: And

Ben: something else and something else.

Ben: You want the film?

Gav: Are you not going right

Gav: here,

Gav: uh Mark?

Gav: No, alright.

Gav: Anyway, we're driving through London and we're almost at uh

Gav: Leicester

Gav: Square

Gav: and I will get back to you of

Gav: hopefully

Gav: chatting to a few people, you never know, an odd film director

Gav: Or someone I know who's watched the movies could give us a bit of a review of the weekend's movies.

Gav: Anyway, we'll be back again real soon, won't we peoples?

Ben: See you later

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: Right, I'm back here at Frightfest.

Gav: We

Gav: just watched two movies

Gav: which have been quite good as a few people dotted around here and there.

Gav: The first movie we watched was Oddities with Adrian Barbeau,

Gav: who you know from the Fog

Gav: radio DJ.

Gav: Her son, Cody Carpenter, John Carpenter's son also, did the music for it.

Gav: Uh it's a film about a couple of girls who like the cocaine.

Gav: Cocaine was one hell of a drug.

Gav: They like to do that and then they uh have an accident and go somewhere and

Gav: uh

Gav: things happen

Gav: and stuff like that.

Gav: Ben!

Ben: It was

Ben: good.

Ben: I enjoyed it.

Ben: She was great in it.

Gav: Adrian Bobo.

Ben: Yeah.

Ben: Absolutely

Ben: amazing.

Ben: Made the film.

Ben: Yeah.

Ben: There was a there was a little bit at the end.

Ben: I didn't like.

Gav: Is that the shot?

Ben: Yeah, there was one shot that just

Gav: nobody liked.

Ben: Snip that, get

Ben: rid of that and then it was great.

Gav: Yeah, nobody liked that.

Gav: Last one last shot, but anyway, did you like the film?

Ben: I did, I I did enjoy the film.

Ben: The the main antagonist, I can't remember the

Ben: the actress.

Ben: his name but she was phenomenal in

Ben: it uh colours were good in it

Ben: um

Ben: yeah

Ben: locations were great

Ben: story was cool

Ben: um

Ben: yeah

Ben: just the final delivery

Ben: the final scene

Ben: take it away

Gav: final shot

Gav: not even scene

Gav: shot really

Ben: I thought it was a very well crafted story with lots of uh intertwining

Ben: sort of different storylines that come together quite nicely.

Ben: Kept me interesting, interested the whole way through uh to try and find out what was going on

Ben: and I thought it was brilliant

Ben: Up until that last scene.

Gav: Yeah, it's a shame

Gav: really.

Gav: Because that's what we're gonna remember.

Gav: So what was the other thing we watched?

Gav: Hotel

Gav: Hotel

Gav: Mark Hotel

Mark: Lake uh Hotel

Mark: Valley View Motel.

Mark: Valley View Motel, that was it.

Gav: Hotel Valley View Motel, Valley View Motel.

Mark: Valley View Motel.

Gav: Yeah, not

Gav: Hotel motel.

Ben: No, it's not hotel motel holiday in.

Ben: Uh

Gav: Bayview Motel.

Gav: Um we've just been chatting to uh uh

Gav: I was

Gav: gonna say

Gav: a young actress from the movie.

Gav: She was young in the movie but we discovered she's not that young actually

Gav: well she is still the young person, but not as young as we thought uh in real life, just chatting away to her.

Gav: Uh she's

Gav: nice

Gav: nice lady.

Gav: Um I preferred this movie over Oddities a little bit.

Gav: I think that was a better

Gav: film

Gav: um

Gav: and

Gav: it is

Gav: what's it what's

Gav: what's it what's it about?

Gav: Um

Ben: Valley View

Ben: Motel.

Ben: Um

Ben: it kind of starts off with a

Ben: no

Ben: country for old men kind of vibe where it's

Ben: a very

Gav: Tarantino country.

Gav: Cohen

Gav: Brothers talk.

Ben: Extremely Tarantino

Ben: Cohen

Ben: Brothers uh themed

Ben: um great

Ben: it's well shot, really

Ben: well shot.

Ben: Filmed

Ben: on a hundred and twenty

Ben: grand.

Ben: Um

Ben: yeah,

Ben: some

Ben: really good scene.

Ben: Shots are great.

Ben: The it was set like in the seventies, I think it was seventies.

Gav: I had that sort of feel too.

Ben: It had that vibe and the lighting was quite was

Ben: great.

Ben: Like

Gav: the killer.

Ben: Yes, the killer.

Ben: The guy

Ben: I can't remember the

Ben: guy that looks like

Mark: brick.

Mark: Brick

Mark: anchor man.

Mark: Once

Mark: once you see it you can't unsee it.

Ben: Yeah.

Gav: Did you

Gav: like the film?

Mark: I loved the film.

Mark: I thought it was great, yeah.

Mark: Um

Mark: I thought that

Mark: um

Mark: oh

Mark: what was her name?

Mark: We

Mark: literally just met her.

Ben: Son

Ben: um

Ben: Laura.

Mark: Laura N?

Ben: Laura M.

Mark: She was great.

Mark: She was great.

Mark: in it.

Mark: Uh

Mark: it's kind of a small part

Mark: but stand

Mark: out definitely.

Mark: Yeah

Gav: totally.

Gav: Her performance are really good.

Gav: But she she's at

Gav: at the end of the day though, she's the uh protagonist that wins at the end.

Mark: No, you spoil it for everyone.

Gav: She might not win.

Gav: He might die.

Gav: We don't know.

Gav: Ignore the device.

Ben: You've just forgotten everything

Ben: in the last

Ben: ten

Ben: seconds.

Gav: John, did you like the film?

Ben: Um

Ben: I did enjoy the film, yes.

Ben: Um

Ben: You didn't fall asleep once.

Ben: I

Ben: fell asleep a couple of times because

Ben: I only got about three

Gav: Oh

Gav: no, oh no.

Ben: It wasn't because of the movie, I was just really, really tired.

Gav: on the way home at that point uh with the last two films we're gonna watch.

Gav: We ha we are missing a movie right now to hang out and get some food and be sociable and I just got a free Sega

Gav: t shirt so

Gav: na

Gav: na

Gav: na na

Gav: na

Gav: wanker

Ben: um so the

Ben: next films up

Ben: to see

Ben: We are

Ben: hyena at 6.

Ben: 30 and species at 8.

Ben: 55.

Gav: Two movies that are already out in the world.

Gav: There's a movie called Hyena

Gav: and a movie called Species already out.

Gav: But anyway, we will see what these ones are, different

Gav: films.

Gav: Alright, goodbye people.

Gav: Back again soon

Gav: really soon.

Gav: Thank you.

Gav: Hello, I'm back again.

Gav: We are now in the car on our way back from Friday Fest.

Gav: It's been a nice day hanging out of people

Gav: and hanging out of these dudes.

Gav: Hey dudes.

Gav: Hey, hey

Ben: hey!

Ben: Uh

Gav: we've just watched two more movies, um

Gav: one called Hyena, um

Gav: which I think was American, and then

Gav: one called Uh Species, which was actually French, um, because

Gav: obviously we know of us

Gav: movie

Gav: called species

Gav: which had

Gav: lots of nudity in

Gav: but funny enough this one also had lots of nudity in

Gav: as well

Gav: but anyway

Gav: hyena

Gav: people what did you think

Gav: good

Ben: it was good very

Ben: very well edited

Ben: very

Ben: well

Ben: Planned.

Ben: Um

Ben: the only problem was there was a twist which was a little bit too obvious up front.

Gav: Everybody noticed it at the beginning.

Mark: It was so obvious we were waiting for the second twist

Mark: because

Mark: we thought that wasn't a twist.

Gav: Because it came about so early, yes.

Ben: Yeah, I really enjoyed it.

Ben: There were elements of Fight Club, um elements of Alexandra Ayer

Ben: 's um

Ben: Hortonchamp

Ben: ,

Ben: which is switchblade romance.

Ben: But yeah, really, really good.

Ben: Good film, great twist at the end.

Ben: But you could see it coming a mile away as

Ben: John

Ben: And Ben.

Mark: It wasn't a great twist at all, no.

Mark: It was very.

Mark: It wasn't.

Mark: We've seen it a million times.

Mark: But the film was great.

Mark: Whoever edited it, I don't know, I can't

Mark: I didn't see

Mark: the name

Mark: But they did a fantastic job

Mark: they did.

Gav: I did get a bit bored

Gav: after the first bit I thought it set up really well and then I it

Gav: felt I don't know the same thing sort of going over and over.

Ben: Yeah it didn't really go anywhere.

Mark: Yeah

Gav: But that was that movie and then we watched a movie called Species, a French movie, which I uh

Gav: for one moment in that movie I love the fact that she became super

Gav: for 20 minutes.

Gav: I thought that's fucking brilliant.

Gav: I was like keep her, she's well

Gav: good.

Ben: I think it was fucking fantastic.

Ben: It

Ben: was excellent.

Gav: Um we didn't really

Gav: see how it all started

Gav: without spoiling the movie obviously, but it didn't really see how it all started really

Gav: did we?

Gav: There was no original.

Ben: Yeah, there was no origin story.

Ben: Which is good because it was a good movie.

Ben: I'd be interested in seeing

Ben: in a sequel

Ben: or an

Ben: or

Ben: an

Ben: origin.

Gav: Yeah

Gav: absolutely

Gav: um

Gav: about

Gav: this French lady

Gav: uh

Gav: who starts as a uh

Gav: trainee

Gav: uh the

Gav: doctor and um

Gav: basically starts to notice that there's

Gav: more

Gav: people around her

Gav: In the

Gav: coming in, uh have got the same sort of problems

Gav: with lots of bleeding, sweating

Gav: blood, blind me.

Gav: That's a thing.

Gav: And and then she ends up having it as well, so she looks into it more than

Gav: other stuff happens.

Gav: But I don't want to spoil it, but that was actually a really enjoyable film.

Gav: Um

Mark: like

Mark: the substance

Mark: you will probably like this film.

Mark: It it feels

Mark: this

Mark: it's got a similar vibe.

Ben: Yeah.

Ben: Oh

Gav: agree.

Ben: And if you're

Ben: yeah if you're

Ben: if you're a bit queasy at

Ben: sp

Ben: some special effects this one's gonna really

Ben: Do you in?

Gav: What's some

Gav: what some good scab pulling, that's for sure.

Ben: Great scab pulling.

Ben: Scab burning as well.

Ben: Melty burning scab pulls.

Ben: Melty burning scab

Ben: pulls.

Gav: Um

Gav: but yeah, that's right

Gav: first.

Gav: Um

Gav: and yeah.

Gav: Yeah it's it's pretty good.

Gav: We've got a few freebies, got a few free hammer

Gav: tote bags and things and um some other bits and balls but yeah it's pretty good as always um

Gav: and I guess we'll be back again next year.

Gav: But anyway

Gav: back to you in the studio

Gav: Gavin

Gav: Dan

Ben: See ya.

Ben: Bye.

Gav: Thanks for that, Gav.

Dan: Oh, thanks, Gav.

Dan: Thank you for that.

Dan: I'm appreciate you waiting all this time to give us the updates on uh

Gav: that's really good of you.

Gav: Appreciate

Gav: you're quite uh

Gav: you've got quite a handsome voice it sounds like from here, but you know that might

Gav: This would be me, Karen.

Dan: Good radio voice, yeah.

Dan: Um

Dan: okay, well, what we'll do is

Dan: go into our trailer now for

Dan: our movie.

Dan: Face

Dan: for

Dan: radio and a voice for

Gav: 60

Gav: times.

Dan: Um, okay.

Dan: So

Dan: we're going to our trailer now for The Watcher in the Woods from 1980.

Dan: Or

Dan: was it 1981?

Dan: I'll get into that when we get into the

Dan: details of it

Dan: Um

Dan: and obviously we've got a little bit of a blurb from Holly, I mean come back from the trader as to why she

Dan: selected this.

Dan: So

Dan: Trader

Dan: Man

Dan: If you are

Dan: if it is a got

Dan: I don't even know if this

Dan: trader's got a trader marks on it.

Dan: Is there a trailer man

Gav: here?

Gav: Do we have a trailer man that plays the trailers?

Dan: Yeah, you know

Dan: You know, no trailer man is like in a world where

Dan: werewolves exist.

Dan: I thought

Gav: Bill Murray, we

Gav: we used to have Bill Murray in the corner, we've now also got in another corner of Trailer

Gav: Man.

Gav: It

Gav: just plays

Gav: trailers for us.

Gav: Play.

Gav: There you go.

Dan: Don't say Bill Murray's name, you'll invoke him and he will be back.

Dan: I've not given him my new address because I don't want him round here.

Gav: He's around someone else's house.

Gav: Oi

Gav: Jane, what?

Gav: Fucking

Gav: there's Bill Murray's down here on the sofa.

Gav: Saying that's when he's when's he on.

Gav: What's he on about?

Gav: What

Dan: when I sold my old house I left them the fridge, the cooker

Dan: and Bill Murray

Dan: in the shed.

Gav: Anyway, it is

Gav: a trader.

Gav: For this thing.

Gav: Oh yeah.

Gav: Take it easy.

Gav: Take it easy.

Gav: Take it away.

Gav: Oh my god.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Something happened in these woods.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Something that has never been explained.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: And it's happening again.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Now.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Did you hurt yourself?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Oh, it's just a little cut.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: What sort of person are you?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Sensitive?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Do

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: you sense things?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: The past pursues the present

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: like a recurring dream.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: What began as a game

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: ended

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: when a young girl vanished into

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: thin air.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: That was my daughter's name.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: What do you think happened to Karen?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: I think she's still out there.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Karen

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: is trying to come back.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: What did you say?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Karen

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: outside there.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Don't you understand?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: It's someone else!

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Only Jan can help

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Karen.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: But who's going to help

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Jan?

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Betty

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Davis.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Carol Baker, David McHallow, and Lynn Hawley

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Johnson.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: Whatever happened to my Karen

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: could happen to you.

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: The Watcher

THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS Trailer: in the woods.

Dan: The Watcher.

Dan: in the Woods

Dan: from 1980, rated

Dan: a PGE for parental guidance because it's Disney

Dan: House of Mouse

Dan: Only an hour and 24 minutes, although the version really most people watch is 80 minutes long, just over an hour

Dan: really.

Dan: Here's the synopsis

Dan: When a family moves to a country home, the young girls experience strange happenings that have a link to an occult event years in the past.

Dan: We've all been there.

Dan: Everyone's moved to a

Dan: country home.

Dan: It's happened in the Amateurville.

Dan: It's happened in loads of movies.

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: And this

Dan: weird shit's happened.

Dan: It's directed by John

Dan: Hoff

Dan: or Hoof.

Dan: Uh and also Vincent McAbeattie

Dan: But John

Dan: Elf

Dan: is famously directed

Dan: Legend of How House with Roddy McDowell.

Dan: And he was actually selected by

Dan: Disney themselves to direct this because he'd done such a great job of that and they wanted the

Dan: same sort of spirit.

Dan: Um

Gav: does

Gav: it confuses me 'cause I think you had a uh uh I think you'll probably get on to it for

Gav: I was watching a little thing on this uh uh

Gav: where

Gav: yeah you kind of had

Gav: Like creative differences.

Gav: You had a certain execs

Gav: one to tone

Gav: down, and then other creators wanted to keep the whole sort of ho

Gav: folk

Gav: horrory

Gav: sort of thing there.

Gav: And it does feel like uh

Gav: uh

Gav: w

Gav: who

Gav: did they think the audience was?

Gav: So then they're you're making it PG but and it's trying they're trying to do something different

Gav: but I'm sure you could get on to but it just seems like who was the audience, do you know what I mean?

Dan: Yeah, well I definitely put a pin in that because I definitely want to get discussing that and this is there's an interesting backstory and certainly something I don't think I've ever heard happen before

Dan: uh with regards to the cinematic release of this.

Dan: But before we get into that, obviously Holly, thank you for selecting this.

Dan: I'm sorry we didn't we're not doing both.

Dan: But Holly did back in the day send me just a quick message with why she selected this.

Dan: Obviously she was originally going for a Betty Davies

Dan: double bill.

Dan: But Holly does

Dan: set does say

Dan: that she first watched Watcher

Dan: in the Woods really, really young, as I think a lot of us did, and she had it on videotape.

Dan: It used to be really really scary for me

Dan: Obviously it's not scary now, but it still leaves me with a weird creeped

Dan: out feeling and I think we can all agree, Holly, that it I get that because

Dan: when

Dan: you

Dan: watch a film at a young age, it sticks with you, yeah.

Dan: Um

Dan: She says Betty Davies is just as scary as she can be in this one, and she is.

Dan: She's very cross and she's very creepy, Ollie

Dan: says.

Dan: Anyway, she says, I hope you enjoy that one.

Dan: And

Dan: If you've not seen it before, tell me what you think.

Dan: Obviously we have seen it before.

Dan: But thank you very much, Holly, for letting us know why you've selected this.

Dan: A lot of our patrons tend to pick movies that they

Dan: watched as kids.

Dan: Um

Dan: that

Dan: that's great, you know.

Gav: I think this adds to my

Gav: uh uh

Gav: liking of

Gav: horror films in woods.

Gav: I I

Gav: I myself have

Gav: I feel like I have a natural bonding with the woods uh

Gav: for whatever reason.

Gav: Uh

Gav: people have with

Gav: the C

Gav: I have it.

Dan: You're part

Dan: big foot, I told you this

Gav: And I've always got the wood, I guess I could say.

Gav: Um

Gav: Borking mad.

Dan: I was

Dan: I was drinking some Pepsi.

Dan: Barking mad

Dan: who said

Dan: that.

Gav: Uh uh

Gav: uh

Gav: anyway

Gav: Uh

Gav: sorry about that.

Gav: I didn't mean to throw

Gav: you off right then, but it's quite amusing to watch.

Gav: Shame

Gav: this isn't a video cast, isn't it?

Gav: Uh and I I I think it uh

Gav: added to my liking of wood

Gav: uh

Gav: and the horror movies in the woods

Gav: and I like to film

Gav: horror movies in the woods as well if you hadn't noticed.

Gav: Um

Gav: uh

Gav: yeah and does real

Gav: it has

Gav: it

Gav: It's really weird.

Gav: I mean

Gav: as a kid, I don't know what age I watched it, but I

Gav: from uh

Gav: very early on

Gav: I started getting into horror movies and I'd had like a list in my head the ones I've seen, mainly hammer

Gav: horror type Dracula movies

Gav: So I didn't have many things to compare

Gav: to, but I remember the

Gav: remember this one being

Gav: just very atmospheric and felt hammery in a way.

Gav: It was British, setting the countryside in the woods

Gav: and just creepy stuff going on and I didn't know folk

Gav: horror at the time, but this is very much a folk

Gav: horror movie.

Gav: Um

Gav: and it just felt otherworldly

Gav: but in the confines of a world I know

Gav: the British countryside woodland area.

Dan: Yes.

Dan: Um

Dan: I mean

Dan: you watched this with your grandma, I think you said

Dan: your grandmother.

Dan: Um

Dan: and I

Dan: Used to rent this from the local guy at the corner shop who had

Dan: um

Dan: videos to rent.

Dan: Excuse me, I'm still getting over the wood comment.

Dan: Um me and my sister would rent this out

Dan: The first

Dan: time we rented it, we were

Dan: I think we were too scared to finish watching it because we were very young.

Dan: And when you rent a Disney film

Dan: You know, it clearly says Disney on it.

Dan: You you don't expect to be terrified.

Dan: Excuse me.

Dan: Um

Dan: however we were very scared.

Dan: I I was probably about eight, nine.

Dan: So

Dan: it was very easy to scare me.

Dan: And then we rented it out a few more times.

Dan: And we

Dan: it was kind of like the thrill of

Dan: knowing the first time we'd seen it, it scared us.

Dan: It never scared us as much after that.

Dan: Probably saw it.

Dan: half a dozen times.

Gav: It's funny when you used to go back

Gav: down

Gav: to the video shop and you used to

Gav: like r

Gav: re-rent movies.

Gav: It was so funny, wasn't it?

Dan: It was 25p for one night, um, this guy.

Dan: So

Dan: back in the day.

Dan: So it was

Dan: very easy.

Dan: We'd save our

Dan: pocket money and just rent it out.

Gav: Just

Gav: going

Gav: back the next week and then going, oh I'm gonna fucking rent that movie cat, it's really good.

Gav: And just rent

Gav: the same one, it's so funny.

Gav: Yeah

Dan: I know.

Dan: Um

Dan: I don't think I saw it again after my sort of pre

Dan: the age of ten.

Dan: Uh

Dan: oh sorry, post the age of ten

Dan: until

Dan: probably about

Dan: ten

Dan: years ago

Dan: I re

Dan: rewatched it

Dan: and it's no

Dan: it's not on Disney Plus

Dan: and it never will be.

Dan: Um

Dan: Disney don't like

Dan: it

Dan: Um, there's a couple of films that will

Dan: never be on Disney Plus.

Dan: A few of them

Dan: have got quite racial undertones

Dan: for its

Dan: time.

Gav: Oh

Gav: right.

Dan: Um

Dan: Disney

Dan: Disney didn't do

Dan: hor

Dan: horror

Dan: they don't like that side of things they're a family studio

Dan: they've done obviously the black hole

Dan: which has got quite dark themes in it

Dan: death

Dan: robots

Dan: Um

Dan: that is on Disney Plus, if you haven't seen that, and that's quite dark.

Dan: They did the Black Cauldron, the animated

Dan: 80s uh

Dan: film which bombed

Dan: 'Cause people went to watch the Disney movie at the cinema and it was full of dark wizards and horned demons.

Gav: Do you remember

Gav: the black hole?

Dan: That's what I just said, the black hole.

Gav: Oh, sorry, I thought you said the black cauldron.

Dan: That was the second one I said.

Gav: Oh sorry.

Gav: Oh

Gav: fucking

Gav: hell.

Gav: Sorry.

Gav: Don't apologize.

Dan: Um

Dan: so they

Dan: doubled in horror is where I'm going, but but this was probably their most

Dan: horror movie that

Dan: that they've done.

Dan: And in fact, it was originally

Dan: a a a a a novel, which

Dan: it's a sort of novel I probably would have read at school.

Dan: I never did, but looking at the cover of it and everything, it's the kind of novel they give you an English class

Dan: to read for homework over a couple of weeks.

Dan: Um

Dan: and

Dan: when the producers got hold of this, they were like, we need to make this into a movie and they approached Disney of all studios.

Dan: They actually went they

Dan: actually went to the the heads of Disney and said

Dan: This

Dan: is gonna be the next exorcist.

Dan: Why are you going to Disney

Dan: and pitching that?

Dan: But they said this is gonna be the next exorcist.

Dan: Did I mean the

Gav: popularity?

Dan: I think

Dan: I think they meant

Gav: In the field of child

Gav: child

Gav: children possessed in the horror

Gav: and popularity and stuff, yeah.

Dan: Yeah, because

Dan: Disney

Dan: aren't gonna put

Gav: They're doing what Disney

Gav: do

Gav: did

Gav: recently, what you were saying earlier on in the show, trying to make some money.

Gav: That's what they were doing.

Dan: I mean don't forget Disney were

Dan: going bust really

Dan: until

Dan: 15 years ago.

Dan: They weren't doing

Dan: very well

Dan: at arrival, you know, um

Dan: now they own the fucking half the fucking world.

Dan: But

Dan: um

Dan: Yeah, it's really interesting.

Dan: They also pursued, as I said, John Hoff

Dan: to direct this movie based on his his movie The Legend of Hill House, which he'd

Dan: he'd um

Dan: he

Dan: directed.

Dan: And then

Dan: then they started filming it

Dan: Obviously they secured Betty Davies, which is

Dan: pedigree, and you went you discussed

Dan: how this film had that hammer feel that

Dan: and it is quite a classy feel to it because

Dan: Betty, she's

Dan: Whenever she's in a movie.

Dan: She's like John

Dan: Saxon as we discussed earlier.

Dan: If she's in a movie, it's gonna be probably worth a watch.

Gav: And it gives it the pedigree as well.

Gav: She's been in quite a lot of good movies, good

Gav: actor

Dan: But they started filming this movie uh at Pinewood

Dan: Studios in 1979, um

Dan: and

Dan: they didn't really know how to deal with the end of

Dan: the book.

Dan: They they

Dan: shot multiple endings.

Dan: And this is where it gets really interesting.

Dan: There was a couple of scenes they removed, a couple of endings they toyed around with.

Dan: They released it cinematically

Dan: Um

Dan: in nineteen eighty, April nineteen eighty.

Dan: And

Dan: ten

Dan: days later

Dan: It wasn't doing very well and it was getting really negative reactions.

Dan: They removed it from theatres.

Dan: So this is a movie that was

Dan: completed and put in theatres.

Dan: They removed it after just over a week.

Dan: And they spent another million p

Dan: million pine

Dan: million dollars

Dan: reshooting the ending.

Gav: They thought that was gonna

Gav: but

Gav: Ha

Gav: ha how

Gav: that's ridiculous

Gav: because

Gav: word of mouth is already out there.

Gav: Uh

Gav: I guess I guess the internet

Gav: 's not there yet, so it's a s only a small amount of people would have watched it, I suppose

Gav: But that's crazy to

Gav: re shoot an ending and put it back out again then, thinking that that's gonna solve the problem.

Dan: It took eighteen months for them to do the reshoots and then get it back out in theatre, so

Dan: by this point it was October

Dan: nineteen eighty one.

Dan: So that's why it's a little bit like

Dan: when did this movie came out?

Dan: Because officially it was released in nineteen eighty, but then it was removed just over a week later and put back out in nineteen

Dan: eighty one.

Dan: But they spent a million dollars

Gav: treating it like a test audience almost

Dan: And they couldn't get the same actors.

Dan: You don't notice it, of course, but that's why the ending is so abrupt in this twenty

Dan: this one hour, twenty-minute ending.

Dan: um

Dan: Betty Davis they can get her back from what I understand.

Dan: Um

Dan: and they even

Gav: Yeah

Gav: th

Dan: there's a few shots apparently where it's the back of certain actors and the

Dan: so that's why certain characters just vanish from it

Dan: towards the end because they just reshot the ending.

Dan: But isn't that crazy?

Dan: Like they don't do that anymore.

Dan: They delay a film now.

Dan: Like even Marvel, a big studio like Marvel will say

Dan: Shit, we're gonna have to delay this movie by six months and chuck another fifty million at it.

Dan: But you

Dan: certainly don't ever hear and

Dan: I don't think I've ever heard of a film being pulled out of cinemas, reshot

Dan: And then put back out there eighteen months later.

Dan: Especially without delay

Gav: a year and a half delay

Gav: is

Gav: ridiculous.

Dan: And unfortunately

Dan: This new ending

Dan: just didn't hit with anyone either.

Dan: And the biggest

Dan: criticism

Dan: this movie gets is the ending is just really muddled.

Dan: Now I like the ending and we'll get into that when we review it.

Dan: Yeah, apparently

Dan: there are

Dan: over a dozen different endings.

Dan: They toyed with

Dan: over a dozen different edits

Dan: of how to end this.

Gav: scripture

Gav: making

Gav: when you start making a film I find it's

Gav: it's cause it's

Gav: it's always rushing

Gav: because they're trying to make money.

Dan: But it's based on a book.

Dan: The but

Dan: it's

Dan: already there

Dan: The book was a bestseller.

Dan: Just follow the book then.

Dan: Exactly.

Dan: It's a bestseller.

Gav: You have to adapt

Gav: books slightly, but like, come on.

Dan: So

Dan: um

Dan: obviously it's been released now on VHS in the 80s, the version I would have seen.

Gav: That's why they're saying the comparison to Exis, because Exis was obviously a book first, wasn't it?

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Oh yeah, that's probably

Dan: actually

Dan: Um, they've never released any of the other endings.

Dan: There are some deleted scenes and a few stills from some of the other endings on the DVDs in the Blu-rays.

Dan: Anchor Bay actually released uh

Dan: special

Dan: edition

Dan: DVD, but

Dan: It's just a really interesting

Dan: footnote that

Gav: I have it on DVD, but

Dan: did you?

Dan: Um I've never

Gav: long

Gav: time ago.

Dan: I've only ever watched it on streaming

Dan: or

Dan: Well you obviously you rented it on the HS back in the day.

Gav: So

Gav: a couple of years ago

Gav: I I put it on eBay and sold it

Gav: actually.

Dan: Um, it did get a slightly better reaction than

Dan: when it was first released, when it got re-released 18 months later, but still

Dan: considered a bomb

Dan: um

Dan: and because of that

Dan: Disney will never put it on Disney Plus

Dan: they

Dan: don't like the demonic

Dan: spooky undertones

Dan: to it they try and stay away from that

Dan: Um, yeah, and it's just really a really interesting footnote really for me that that

Dan: I didn't realize that that had happened until researching this.

Dan: So Holly, thank you for sort of

Dan: you know, I love this behind the scenes shit and um I thought that was really interesting and I've certainly like I said I've just never heard of a film being pulled out of the cinema

Dan: and then put back out a year and a half later.

Dan: That's absolutely crazy

Dan: really.

Dan: Um

Dan: Especially a big big Disney film with Betty Davis in it, you know.

Dan: It would have been all the hype and everything and then it would have been gone away.

Dan: And imagine if you were

Dan: you saw it in the first ten

Dan: days.

Dan: It would be like the the an early version of the Mandela effect.

Dan: You'd be like, oh no, I definitely saw this film with Beck David and everyone would be like, what

Dan: are you talking about?

Dan: And then when it's re-released, you're like, oh this is the film I was telling you about, but the ending is changed.

Dan: What's

Dan: This isn't the ending I remember.

Dan: There's no internet or anything to

Dan: do any research back in the day.

Dan: Um

Dan: So yeah, you saw this at a young age, I saw this at a young age.

Dan: I totally get what Holly says about um

Dan: you know

Dan: these kind of movies do stick with you.

Dan: And

Dan: Before we get into the details of it and the cast, etc.

Dan: it's obviously a lot of it takes place in a beautiful mansion. We

Dan: love the movies, like the hammer movies that are set in that.

Dan: on the edge of a beautiful wood.

Dan: And all the

Dan: it's got to be said that the shots within the woods are fantastic with the

Dan: the way the light's streaming through the trees

Dan: At times

Dan: it felt like I was watching an 80s slasher, particularly because it's like a blonde lead.

Dan: It's because you got some like

Gav: POVs through the trees a little bit, yeah.

Dan: Yeah, it

Dan: really had that sort of eight

Dan: I and I said to my wife who was watching some of it with me while I was making my notes, I said

Dan: Do you know that this isn't like a horror

Dan: slasher sort of movie?

Dan: And she was like, Oh, what is it?

Dan: And I said, It's a Disney movie

Dan: But it looks cause

Dan: not to be crude, but the the

Dan: the older sister is walking around without a bra

Dan: and she's sort of running through the woods

Dan: And

Dan: screaming and

Dan: shouting and it just looks like

Gav: a sinister

Gav: sort of score at the beginning of it.

Gav: We may as well get into it with the with

Gav: the family in the car travelling

Gav: along.

Gav: Uh

Gav: and you've

Gav: got

Gav: Tension from the like I said the

Gav: points of view from the woods

Gav: where it would be like Michael Myers watching you

Gav: or Jason

Gav: That's what it's alluding to and it is

Gav: you gotta

Gav: think that then you

Gav: just

Gav: this is before though

Gav: Friday thirteenth

Gav: Or

Gav: it's

Dan: yeah, they filmed it in 79, so it's around at the same time.

Gav: Uh

Gav: yeah, so Halloween's kind of out though.

Gav: So

Gav: um

Gav: it's interesting, definitely that

Gav: uh like you generally find at times

Gav: different movies look around them at or

Gav: the movies that

Gav: just come out previously

Gav: What's popular or what's

Gav: a

Gav: good way of shooting something like

Gav: like

Gav: through the woods, like

Gav: through the trees, like it's someone's point of view

Gav: Um so you generally find around the time of certain movies coming out they all seem to have the same sort of look or

Gav: or or m

Gav: feel

Gav: in some way.

Gav: So yeah, this definitely does have that

Gav: for sure

Dan: And I've never I've never read the novel, so I

Dan: I don't know if the ending is can

Dan: can be compared to the novel, but

Dan: I mean

Dan: spoiler

Dan: as we always say, but the ending kind of deals with potential

Dan: interdimensional beings or aliens, which is

Dan: incredibly forward for the

Dan: 1979-1980

Dan: You know, body swapping, moving into a different dimension, what you thought was a ghost story all along

Dan: may have actually just been some kind of alien

Dan: accident

Dan: or some

Dan: kind of cult thing.

Dan: It's it's very

Dan: it is a muddled ending but I quite like it.

Dan: In some ways it's a little bit going back to Demon Warp.

Dan: It just kind of throws loads of shit in at the wall and whatever sticks

Dan: sticks and I

Dan: I kind of like the shit that sticks to the wall at the end of this movie.

Dan: It does end but

Dan: really abruptly.

Dan: There was only fifty seconds left

Dan: of

Dan: the the runtime and then the credits came up and I was like

Dan: oh fucking hell they really chopped

Dan: this

Dan: to pieces didn't they?

Dan: It's an hour and twenty

Dan: minutes

Dan: You know, and a minute of that is the the credits, you know.

Gav: I like

Gav: I like some of those some of those eighties

Gav: movies where you're like

Gav: Just sitting there

Gav: like

Gav: this could carry on and

Gav: find out a bit a bit more about this.

Gav: Oh that's the main peak.

Gav: Okay, that

Gav: we're gonna chill out, settle in for a bit more.

Gav: I might oh

Gav: might pour

Gav: myself another drink.

Gav: You know, and

Gav: also

Gav: in credits

Gav: like

Gav: Oh, okay.

Gav: Um

Gav: right, uh

Gav: and yes to sort of make an end into

Gav: yourself.

Gav: This also has an

Gav: uh

Gav: a girl from uh

Gav: the Halloween movies.

Gav: She was

Gav: um

Gav: in the original Halloween film, in fact, at the same age.

Gav: Oh

Dan: is that um

Gav: She's getting babysit by uh Jamie Lee Kurtz.

Gav: The little

Gav: dark haired girl in it, yeah?

Dan: Oh the little girl, yeah.

Gav: She's an original Halloween.

Gav: She with

Gav: her with Tommy,

Gav: they

Gav: they're getting uh uh babyset, aren't they?

Gav: And

Gav: she didn't say that.

Gav: And she's in the

Gav: obviously the most recent Halloween ones, the middle one, where she's in the bar with Tommy Jarvis.

Gav: Not Tommy Jarvis, that's Friday 13th, Tommy, whatever it

Gav: was.

Gav: Uh

Gav: talking about Michael Myers and shit.

Gav: Yeah, so

Dan: now

Dan: her name is Kyle Kyle Richards.

Gav: So as I saw I was like, oh that's that girl from Halloween.

Dan: The only other people really of note in this are Betty Davies obviously and David McCallum, which a lot of people will know from The Man from

Dan: Uncle.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Invisible man TV show.

Dan: Very

Gav: familiar face,

Gav: yeah, for sure.

Dan: Yeah, um

Dan: but yeah let

Dan: let's get into the this movie then and uh and the spooky stuff that's going on in the woods

Dan: the watcher

Dan: in the woods it sounds like

Dan: it sounds Jimmy Savile but it's

Gav: Watcher in the Woods.

Gav: I'm watching you from the woods

Dan: The dogger

Dan: in the woods.

Dan: So

Dan: ,

Dan: we

Gav: start with

Dan: spooky music.

Gav: Did I tell you about uh

Gav: well I was walking a dog one time and uh

Gav: Did I tell you about this one?

Dan: Oh

Gav: Oh.

Gav: I was working

Gav: at Doctor.

Gav: No, not that story, don't worry.

Gav: I'll never

Gav: get

Gav: heard.

Dan: That's another watch and

Gav: unless I do a stand-up

Gav: show.

Gav: Um

Gav: and I was walking dog

Gav: and I was like

Gav: beans

Gav: and then I heard

Gav: beans.

Dan: Oh Jesus Christ.

Gav: I was like, what the fuck?

Gav: And I think it was

Gav: um

Gav: Someone

Gav: uh

Gav: mental disability

Gav: was

Gav: just mimicking

Gav: what

Gav: he said from a garden, I think.

Gav: But the thing was there's no one then nothing else to

Gav: say

Gav: nothing and it was so weird because it happened straight away.

Gav: I went beans and beans

Gav: and I was like,

Gav: the fuck

Gav: It was so weird.

Gav: It was like an X-Foles episode type thing, sank in the bushes

Gav: just

Gav: like but I

Gav: it never happened again and I

Gav: nothing else from that.

Gav: That was just that and it's like

Gav: I wasn't imagining it and I was like, the hell was that?

Gav: I think Elijah heard it

Gav: actually.

Dan: I I remember walking beans when he was very young when you

Dan: not long after he was.

Dan: Oh no, bless him.

Dan: But I remember walking in the woods in the woods with him

Dan: and

Dan: I th

Dan: I said oh let me let me take him for a little bit and I had him on the league because I've never had a dog

Dan: so it's nice for me to walk a dog occasionally

Dan: and I was walking along and you guys were a bit behind me and then all of a sudden this man went, oh that's a beautiful little dog.

Dan: Will you sell him

Dan: You sell them to me.

Dan: I was like, what?

Dan: And I told you about it and you said, Oh,

Dan: we've had that once or twice actually.

Dan: You said a couple of people were like, Oh, I'll buy your dog off you

Dan: Well

Dan: you can't just go up to somebody and say, can I buy your dog?

Gav: Well he's little,

Gav: he's a very pretty

Gav: dog, but it's

Gav: also

Gav: things

Gav: that people nick him as well though, that's the trouble.

Gav: Steal your dog.

Gav: Yeah.

Gav: Anyway.

Dan: One thing then about this about this music, um, I don't know if you notice this.

Dan: I mean the music's great for the most part, but there is one, there is a a little bit of a

Dan: a jewels

Dan: ripoff at one point.

Dan: Um

Dan: There's a definite

Dan: John Williams

Dan: copyright infringement act,

Dan: some of the music a bit

Dan: later on.

Dan: And it does get a bit slashery at some point as well.

Dan: Um, but it is quite good

Dan: spooky music and you've got that

Gav: That's what I'm

Gav: saying.

Dan: Where did you hear that humming scene, you know?

Gav: Uh on the video

Gav: shop I did

Gav: I covered a silver bullet and I

Gav: noticed this time, because obviously we've covered it in the podcast, but I noticed at this time that the their music was

Gav: du

Gav: dum

Gav: whenever the werewolves

Gav: near.

Gav: Dum.

Gav: But I was like, dum.

Gav: And I was like, hang

Gav: on, that's Jaws, but the notes around the other way around.

Gav: And

Gav: it

Gav: was

Dan: It's the vanilla

Dan: ice get

Dan: out of jail free card, you know.

Dan: Just add an extra

Dan: ding ding ding ding-ga-ding ding.

Dan: Ripping off Queen.

Gav: Oh Milly Vanilli

Gav: Oh

Dan: many vanilli.

Gav: Go

Gav: on.

Dan: So we start off with spooky music

Dan: Shadowy

Dan: Woods

Dan: 'cause obviously this ty

Dan: the title is The Watcher in the Woods, so we're gonna get a lot of woods in this.

Gav: Uh uh most

Gav: movies

Gav: the first im

Gav: first images we see

Gav: sets

Gav: the theme of the movie.

Gav: movie generally and this

Gav: straight away is

Gav: like creepy

Gav: creepy eighties

Gav: folk horror

Gav: you know

Gav: and it's British as well so you got the British woodlands so it's different trees

Gav: rather than

Gav: some

Gav: some

Gav: You know, and

Gav: you do

Gav: it's not something you notice

Gav: very much, but uh

Gav: uh

Gav: a wo

Gav: uh woodland in Friday

Gav: thirteenth, the trees and the

Gav: stuff like that

Gav: are gonna be different

Gav: To trees

Gav: in England, so

Gav: you know, so it does straight away you're like, Oh it's British Woods, you know

Dan: Yeah, definitely.

Dan: Um

Dan: it was filmed in Buckinghamshire, so

Dan: definitely.

Dan: And

Dan: at no point does this feel like a Disney movie.

Dan: It's very strange.

Dan: No point.

Dan: There's no stamp on it of Disney, you know?

Dan: There's always a bit of a Disney stamp.

Gav: It just goes straight into it, doesn't it?

Gav: A family traveling somewhere to a house that they've bought.

Dan: Well they're they're they're th they're viewing it.

Dan: Oh yeah, so

Gav: it's very cheap as well, apparently.

Dan: Yeah, so this family

Dan: or an American family composed of

Dan: sorry, pardon the pun, composed of a dad who is a composer and

Dan: musician called Dave

Dan: uh Paul Curtis, played by David McCallum, and his wife, uh Helen, and they've got two daughters, Jan and Ellie.

Dan: And

Dan: and

Dan: f

Dan: because of work, because he's a pianist, not penis, a pianist, and uh a com composer of music.

Dan: I mean we've all dreamed that that would be our job.

Dan: Only fans can make it come

Dan: true.

Dan: Um

Dan: I've heard.

Dan: Uh

Dan: so they

Dan: they are looking at houses that they can rent.

Dan: in the beautiful English countryside.

Dan: And they come across this fucking

Dan: so they're showing this sprawling

Dan: mansion, this absolutely definitely haunted, beautiful

Dan: giant mansion.

Gav: You could do your own.

Gav: Only Dan

Gav: 's

Dan: Brilliant.

Dan: You put your hand up for that.

Dan: So they arrived

Dan: And

Dan: uh

Dan: already

Dan: straight away as they're pulling in the house to

Dan: view in to park up and view it, we get the POV

Dan: Michael Myers, Jason, they're in the woods.

Dan: Someone's in the woods watching them.

Gav: It's the

Gav: Watch

Gav: Sure in the Woods.

Gav: Well, well, okay, the movie's called Watch in the Woods.

Gav: So you've rented this out for a video

Gav: shop and it's like it's Watch in the Woods.

Gav: And then you get

Gav: home and there's like there's

Gav: POV from the woods you're like

Gav: this

Gav: must

Gav: I don't know what what the what was the

Gav: the burb on the back of the cover would have been if how much

Gav: info it gave you

Gav: but if it was keeping it slightly secretive

Gav: you'd think possibly it was a slasher film like you're saying.

Dan: Yeah, it does feel like that at times.

Dan: Um

Dan: it feels like if

Dan: Hammer did

Dan: get a slasher.

Gav: Oh

Gav: a blade in the dark is the Italian movie

Gav: if a composer goes to a house to compose music and stuff, uh you know, which

Gav: are a slasher film

Gav: But then again, I suppose you've got to change Lynn, which is the same thing, but that's a ghost movie.

Dan: Well they find out that this this house is incredibly cheap to rent.

Dan: And

Dan: they're a bit un unsure why that is.

Gav: And the owner's really picky.

Gav: Which seems really weird that the owner's so picky but yet

Gav: so cheap.

Gav: It's like

Gav: well

Gav: Why don't you make it like m way

Gav: more expensive then you have less people coming along so less people to go fish

Gav: you're so fucking picky

Dan: Well this is just it.

Dan: The r

Dan: one of the reasons it's so cheap is because when you rent this giant property, you will also unfortunately

Dan: have Betty Davis living on the same plot of land.

Dan: Yeah,

Gav: unfortunately

Gav: I live here as well.

Gav: And I'm gonna be picking who does it, but it's cheap

Gav: So

Gav: this is

Gav: this is like weird as fuck.

Gav: This whole situation's weird as fuck.

Dan: And has

Dan: as Holly pointed out, she is very cross, very scary

Dan: and grumpy and creepy

Dan: in this movie.

Dan: And we'll find out why.

Dan: She's gone through a trauma, but we'll find out why.

Gav: Uh

Gav: uh

Gav: right outside of the house

Dan: Yeah, a weird looking tree from the distance.

Dan: It looks like it could be a big creature, doesn't it?

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Um

Dan: and the girls are sort of

Dan: I'd say they're like

Dan: Maybe 1617, the older one and the other one's maybe like twelve.

Dan: I don't know.

Dan: But they're kind of like, oh this is cool, this is exciting.

Dan: You know, they're looking around the house.

Dan: David McCallum

Dan: 's like, there's a great piano in here for me.

Dan: This is fantastic.

Dan: Um

Dan: Um

Dan: and the girls are like, oh

Dan: I reckon it's haunted.

Dan: Yeah, it must be haunted.

Dan: So they're kind of

Dan: excited about it.

Dan: And they do look around the house and Betty

Dan: Davis basically says, yes, you can rent this house.

Dan: But while that's sort of

Dan: the adults having that discussion, the kids

Dan: sense, particularly the older girl, Jan, something in the woods.

Dan: She looks out and she sees like a flash of light, um, and they're not quite sure.

Dan: you know, what

Dan: it is they've seen.

Dan: The

Dan: the the lefting agent goes and knocks on um

Dan: Bessie Davis's door and she's sort of like

Dan: I've told you not to knock on the door

Dan: more

Dan: She's like yeah but these

Gav: I do like one

Gav: thing with Betty Davis being a bit grumpy,

Gav: another

Gav: inst

Gav: instance

Gav: instance

Gav: where uh he's there and he just starts playing some uh laid back

Gav: soft jazz on the piano.

Gav: Down.

Gav: She's just like, oh my

Gav: I don't like that.

Gav: It's just

Gav: like

Gav: so like Snooty England

Gav: where where

Gav: uh someone an en

Gav: an English person is easily offended by something

Gav: which doesn't really matter in the whole complexity of life.

Gav: And it's just because he's playing laid back

Gav: jazz rather than like a bit more classical.

Gav: She doesn't like it

Gav: and she's like, Oh, I don't like that.

Gav: It's so funny.

Dan: He makes a rude joke.

Dan: He makes a rude joke.

Dan: She's like, I thought you'd have played something a little bit more

Dan: operatic than that.

Dan: He says, well

Dan: I tend to I tend to get a little bit more

Dan: he says something like

Dan: a little bit more saucy

Dan: in the evenings and he sort of winks at his wife and his wife goes a bit embarrassed.

Dan: Obviously the kids don't get what he's meant saying and Betty

Dan: Davies is like

Dan: How dare you

Dan: talk about rude things?

Gav: How dare you talk about

Gav: me?

Gav: It was

Gav: as an evil thing.

Dan: Um, whil, the older daughter, is looking out the window and they're

Dan: because they're excited about the possibility they could be living here and the bedrooms are cool,

Dan: like I said, she spots this glowing light in the woods.

Dan: Um

Dan: and then all of a sudden the window just goes smash, but it doesn't smash smash, it just sort of cracks in the shape of a triangle

Dan: Illuminati triangle.

Dan: Um

Dan: and it's quite like a bit of a jump scare.

Dan: I remember being as a kid, we were like, whoa, what's that?

Gav: Well Betty Davis got a little bit more.

Gav: Takes under

Gav: wing

Gav: this girl a little bit and the agent thinks like, oh, she must remind

Gav: you must remind her of her child that she lost

Dan: Yeah, because

Dan: she says

Dan: she had a daughter and they said

Dan: she says yeah um I won't get into it now

Dan: but she had a daughter.

Dan: Um

Dan: so yeah Betty David says to her, you

Dan: girl

Dan: and this is like basically how she

Dan: the

Dan: side

Dan: the family can live here.

Dan: She goes, Hugo, you

Dan: you've got a good pair of eyes on you.

Dan: Do you

Dan: see things?

Dan: Do you

Dan: and then she sort of just goes, Do you sense things?

Dan: Do you sense things?

Dan: Do you hear things?

Dan: And she basically just says to her

Dan: Have you got ESP?

Dan: But

Dan: without you saying it.

Gav: I

Gav: I

Gav: I'd be a bit creaked out.

Gav: Are we gonna rent this place?

Gav: This woman's got to live with us and she's saying

Gav: we

Gav: do

Gav: you

Gav: go!

Gav: Your

Gav: eyes

Gav: Do you see things?

Gav: I I don't know about this dad.

Gav: I

Gav: I don't know.

Gav: It's this

Gav: the woman's gonna

Gav: this is her conversation.

Gav: I don't know.

Dan: And then Jan, the older daughter, does then say

Dan: You know, they've already agreed that they're going to rent the house at this point, but Jan says, by the way, mum, I've got a really strange feeling.

Dan: But they're an American family, by the way.

Dan: I've got a really strange feeling

Dan: thinking about this house.

Dan: An eerie feeling, like, and she looks

Dan: away.

Dan: Something terrible happened here in the past.

Dan: Well let's rent it.

Dan: Great, let's rent

Dan: Zach

Dan: then

Dan: fantastic.

Dan: So they do.

Dan: It's decided.

Dan: And we cut to like, I don't know, a few weeks in the future now, where they've all they're all moving in, they're unpacking, it's fun, they're excited.

Dan: This is gonna be my bedroom, this is gonna be my bedroom

Dan: Um

Dan: and

Dan: um

Dan: Betty seems to

Dan: at one point they see Betty Davis

Dan: looking out to the woods and it says, she

Dan: says

Dan: What is she saying?

Dan: She says something to the woods like, I trust that you'll treat them kindly or something like that, you know, or w watch over them or something.

Dan: Are you happy?

Dan: Are you going to leave them in peace?

Dan: Like, who are you speaking to in the trees?

Dan: Bigfoot?

Dan: Like,

Dan: could be great.

Dan: Betty Davis in a Bigfoot movie.

Dan: Absolutely

Dan: take my money

Dan: right now.

Gav: Betty Davis in the Bigfoot.

Gav: Betty and the Bigfoot.

Dan: Betty

Dan: and the Bigfoot.

Dan: Harry and the Henderson

Dan: is

Dan: Betty

Dan: and the Bigfoot.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: And it's her illegitimate son.

Gav: Or Betty Davis is actually a female Bigfoot, so it's Bigfoot Betty.

Dan: She just shaves every day.

Dan: So the family have moved in, um, they're unpacking and

Dan: Jan, the older

Dan: sister again, she

Dan: she finds this strange mirror

Dan: She looks in the mirror, doesn't she, Gav?

Dan: And all of a sudden there's

Dan: she's got no reflection in the mirror.

Dan: It's really great how they've done this with a camera angle.

Dan: Because you don't see any cameras going

Dan: down, you don't see her reflection either.

Dan: They were

Dan: it was

Dan: I don't know how they did it.

Gav: No, and I I

Gav: didn't know

Gav: any

Gav: thought to it really.

Gav: It's all done with mirrors, sir.

Gav: Um

Gav: that's all I'm gonna say to get out of it.

Gav: Um

Gav: it's very much

Gav: they're putting across this movie very much as a haunted house movie, aren't they?

Gav: They really are.

Gav: Wherever

Gav: like a haunt is

Gav: something in the woods, which you

Gav: now alone

Gav: to

Gav: if you watch this, you might think it's a ghost and the ghost is in the woods as well or something, you know.

Dan: Well yes, because once her reflection is gone in the mirror, the next thing she sees is a blindfolded blonde girl in the mirror.

Dan: a ghostly girl.

Dan: And obviously it freaks her out and then the mirror smashes, the triangle appears, then

Dan: then the whole thing breaks to pieces.

Dan: And then her mum and dad come in and they're like, for fuck's sake, Jam, we've only just moved in and you're already breaking mirrors

Dan: And she says, well, you know, sorry.

Dan: And then what somebody says that's seven years bad luck.

Dan: And David McCallum says, well, I don't know.

Dan: I don't believe in that superstition

Dan: because

Dan: I broke a mirror on the day I married your mother.

Dan: And uh it's not

Dan: been nothing but good luck.

Dan: But

Dan: good luck.

Dan: And his wife says

Dan: ,

Dan: not

Dan: sure about that.

Dan: So there's a little bit of tension between them.

Dan: But I think they're good.

Dan: They're getting at it a couple of times a week, I would

Dan: say.

Gav: G

Gav: sexually

Gav: or

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: Oh.

Dan: That's just my insight.

Dan: Um

Dan: so

Dan: um

Dan: they go to bed, the girls go to bed, um

Dan: and

Dan: their

Dan: bedroom

Dan: window faces directly onto this dark

Dan: creepy fucking woods

Dan: that's got like

Dan: something in it watching them and she's lying in bed looking out the window

Dan: where this cracked

Dan: triangle is on the

Dan: and she's just looking out

Dan: there like

Dan: I would be put

Dan: shutting the curtains or putting the blinds down at this point.

Dan: I wouldn't be just staring out to the woods, do you know what I mean?

Dan: I don't know.

Gav: I dunno, it it is quite creepy but quite it's quite n nice as well

Gav: though

Gav: But I like that though.

Gav: It's a nice thing though, like just there

Gav: looking out

Gav: in it

Gav: 's your

Gav: nothing s

Gav: can protect you.

Gav: It's quite scary, isn't it?

Gav: So I think in the woods

Gav: come come get you, like a big twig.

Dan: Jesus.

Gav: That's a twig.

Dan: Big twig.

Dan: We get a really cool spooky moment and there's a couple of times this sort of thing happens now

Dan: where um

Dan: one of the girls is asleep, the younger girl is asleep

Dan: and she's talking in her sleep.

Dan: And Jan goes over and says, what are you talking about?

Dan: And she says, I wasn't talking, it was you that was talking in your sleep.

Dan: So they both heard a voice

Dan: and both thought it was the other one talking in their

Dan: sleep.

Dan: And that's quite cool.

Dan: And that again that does happen a couple of times later on.

Gav: And it's very uh uh

Gav: The Haunting as well.

Gav: Like they say

Gav: Legend of Hellhouse director, but very like The Haunting as well, that movie.

Dan: Yeah,

Dan: love

Dan: that movie.

Dan: Um

Dan: so

Dan: lots of spooky things going on.

Dan: Um

Dan: The

Dan: they

Dan: keep cutting back to the woods of the woods

Dan: whenever we end.

Dan: It feels like a TV movie because whenever there's like a scene that ends, you then have like a quick shot to the woods

Dan: where the advert

Dan: break would be.

Dan: And maybe

Dan: maybe it

Dan: was

Dan: they were thinking it was going to be a TV movie?

Dan: I don't know.

Dan: Obviously it got released in theaters

Dan: as we discussed.

Dan: I don't know.

Dan: Um

Dan: then

Dan: we get that whole puppy

Dan: scene.

Dan: So

Dan: Jan has met a guy called Mike, a hot guy in the village called Mike, who rides a scrambler bike, a motocross

Dan: bike, which we see more of later.

Dan: And she sort of gets friendly with him, he's more her age, and he's got a puppy that he wants to sell to

Dan: well

Dan: not sell, I don't I think he just gives it to her little sister.

Gav: I've got a puppy.

Gav: It's not a good

Gav: look.

Dan: I

Dan: I know.

Dan: This

Dan: is your public service announcement, listeners.

Dan: If a man tries to give you a puppy or entire

Dan: shooting

Dan: ,

Dan: he probably hasn't.

Gav: No,

Gav: if you're trying to get into a van because uh

Gav: damn broke

Gav: dam

Gav: broke up then, so

Gav: yes.

Gav: Oh

Dan: sorry, sorry

Dan: But

Dan: um

Dan: Ellie

Dan: loves this puppy and she she goes into this

Dan: barn or this shop and she starts writing something.

Dan: She goes into a trance and she starts writing something on the window.

Dan: And it's Nerak.

Dan: And she's like, what's

Dan: the older sister?

Dan: Says, what's this?

Dan: She's like, that's the puppy's name

Gav: I love the fact that on the glass window

Gav: they just

Gav: just can't uh

Gav: work out its

Gav: Karen

Gav: backwards.

Gav: It's like fucking

Gav: come on

Gav: people

Gav: come

Gav: on

Dan: I know, and this is obviously a bit of a

Dan: and this probably would have been in the book, but this feels like a bit of a shining.

Gav: Well

Gav: the shining again though was 81.

Gav: So

Gav: And they're supposed to take it

Gav: from the book.

Gav: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Dan: So she's got this puppy, she's called it Narak, and one of the women outside,

Dan: Mike's mum.

Dan: Oh, she sees Karen

Dan: 'cause she stood outside.

Gav: I gotta say, like, even Sarah has red

Gav: rum tattooed on the back of her

Gav: uh

Gav: legs.

Gav: Uh I've never seen a uh uh a Karen

Gav: backwards

Gav: tattooed on anybody

Dan: Well, Karen

Dan: has different meaning these days, doesn't it?

Gav: I guess, yeah.

Gav: Um

Dan: but yeah, so the little girls called this Narek, which is Karen

Dan: backwards, and Mike's mum

Dan: who

Dan: has something to do with

Dan: the missing girl.

Dan: Um

Dan: she

Dan: sees the word

Dan: Karen

Dan: the right way around, freaks

Dan: out,

Dan: runs

Dan: off.

Dan: We won't f

Dan: we won't find it anymore.

Dan: But yeah.

Dan: But

Dan: but again this is marketed at

Dan: I guess at children.

Dan: So that would have blown my little mind as

Dan: like a nine, ten

Dan: year old seeing

Dan: Oh my god, that's the word.

Gav: It's like a twist if you're there.

Gav: Oh my god.

Gav: much

Gav: a dawning

Gav: moment

Dan: well like I say

Dan: Ellie says well I heard you say it to her big sister and his

Dan: big sister

Dan: I didn't say this name

Dan: Narek

Dan: And I certainly don't know anybody called Karen, so I don't know why you

Dan: called the puppy that, but

Dan: okay, cool.

Dan: No worries.

Dan: It would have been weird if she called the puppy Karen.

Dan: Imagine a puppy just called Karen.

Gav: That would be weird

Dan: I do like it when people call their pets um

Dan: I

Dan: uh

Dan: heap

Dan: of names.

Gav: Yeah, there was a dog the other day that I uh

Gav: what was it?

Gav: Paul or Dave?

Dan: It's just funny.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: It's just funny when someone's in the

Dan: bar

Dan: and they're like, Steve.

Dan: Come on, Steve.

Gav: Steve one.

Gav: It it was Steve.

Gav: It was Steve.

Gav: It was

Dan: A dog

Dan: good

Dan: Steve.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Amazing.

Dan: Amazing.

Dan: Um, so

Dan: um

Dan: Dan

Dan: 's looking out

Dan: later on, Jan looks out the window and sees Ellie

Dan: 's obviously very happy playing with her puppy.

Dan: Um

Dan: she's sort of on the outskirts of the woods.

Dan: And then all of a sudden her parents are like, We're off now to

Dan: one of the big towns in London.

Gav: By the way, uh when they're at the farm that's a very point of view again, like a serial killer

Gav: and the with

Gav: the music it was uh th that

Gav: at times you've still got someone looking at them which is the

Gav: Watching the woods presumably.

Dan: Yeah, you feel like there is

Dan: because there's a bit in the barn and you feel like this could be a Friday

Dan: the thirteenth movie, you know?

Dan: This is definitely a gateway.

Dan: If you saw this at a young age

Dan: You would have seen things you liked

Dan: like the Friday the 13th

Dan: The Slasher

Dan: stuff

Dan: but also the hammer

Dan: stuff as well so it's definitely a good gateway movie in that respect.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Um

Dan: So

Dan: her parent

Dan: the parents go

Dan: as they do quite a lot of this movie for work they have to drive away quite a lot leaving the two young girls

Dan: in this giant haunted mansion with only Betty Davies and a puppy for company.

Dan: And Jan sees her

Dan: um

Dan: sister playing

Gav: on the edge of the wood.

Gav: It's alright,

Gav: a yin yang then really, isn't it?

Gav: I'm sorry, oh a lovely puppy to play with

Gav: today in the house because

Gav: there's no internet, there's no nothing to do.

Gav: I'm in the fucking woods

Gav: Oh, but there's Betty Davis to contend with.

Gav: Like

Gav: moaning about shit.

Gav: But there's a puppy.

Gav: Oh, but there's Betty Davis.

Gav: Be

Gav: right

Gav: old mixture.

Gav: We

Dan: 'll leave you kids, you'll be alright.

Dan: Fine.

Dan: We'll be

Dan: back in two

Dan: days.

Dan: You're fine.

Dan: There's plenty of food.

Dan: No.

Dan: Chan

Dan: looks back out the window

Dan: and her sister's gone

Dan: and so's the puppy.

Dan: And all that's left is a little radio, AM

Dan: radio playing a really funky

Dan: discoby.

Dan: And she's like, Ellie!

Dan: Ellie, where are you?

Dan: And of course, this is

Dan: now

Dan: where it looks.

Dan: It feels like a slasher movie, because she's running through the woods.

Dan: She's trying to find her sister.

Dan: She can't find her anywhere in the woods.

Dan: Um

Dan: It definitely feels like a slasher at this point.

Dan: She eventually finds her sister.

Dan: Says, I've been calling you for ages.

Dan: Like, where the hell are you?

Dan: They have a little bit of an argument

Dan: in the

Dan: woods.

Dan: Um, and all of a sudden this strange

Dan: supernatural light starts coming through the the branches of the tree

Dan: um

Dan: and then we get these big flashes of light

Dan: that it feels like only Jan can see.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: And then one of these flashes of light makes Jan sort of slip and she falls into a big pond.

Dan: This is so fucking dark in a kid's Disney movie now.

Dan: All of a sudden she opens her eyes underwater.

Dan: Betty Davies

Dan: is just there

Dan: stabbing her with a big

Dan: branch.

Dan: Trying

Dan: to keep her under the water.

Dan: And you're like, what the fuck is going on?

Dan: And she's like

Dan: Screaming under water.

Dan: Betty

Dan: David's

Dan: big eyes are just

Gav: I know and uh

Gav: so uh

Gav: us

Gav: along with the girl being pushed under by the stick, it isn't.

Gav: She's actually trying to help her and free her

Gav: We just don't know this at first.

Gav: We're just like, fucking hell, Betty Davis, I know you're not unhappy, but Jesus, you invited us here.

Gav: Now you're

Gav: like literally trying to kill me

Dan: Yeah, is

Dan: we

Dan: cut

Dan: to

Dan: her

Dan: back

Dan: at Betty Davis' house, drawing off with a towel.

Dan: And she's like, Oh my god, Betty Davis, when you were

Dan: prodding me with that big branch, I thought you were just trying to drag me.

Gav: I love that everybody when they talk to her they just say her

Gav: by her own

Gav: uh

Gav: a whole name as well.

Gav: Betty Davis.

Dan: Betty Davis.

Gav: What what's for tea Betty Davis?

Dan: But it's explained that she was trapped under a log in the

Dan: in the um

Dan: pond and the only way to free her was to push her under a bit more

Dan: to get her legs out

Dan: so they could then get her out of the water.

Dan: Yeah, so um

Dan: she saved your life, her little sister says.

Dan: And she's taking care of Jan

Dan: and she says, your

Dan: uh little sister's puppy, Nerak.

Dan: That's a strange name.

Dan: And Jan says, yeah, I'm not sure why she called it that really, but it's

Dan: it's basically Karen

Dan: backwards.

Dan: And

Dan: Betty

Dan: does her

Dan: I had

Dan: a daughter called Karen.

Gav: And I had no idea that her name backwards would be that.

Dan: And then Jan

Dan: says, was she ever blindfolded?

Dan: Or was she blindfolded when she died?

Dan: And Betty says, who's told you about this?

Dan: How should you know about these things?

Dan: I knew you could send stuff.

Dan: Um

Dan: and she doesn't really give

Dan: much

Dan: away at this point.

Dan: She just says

Dan: Jan

Dan: says, I just feel like

Dan: she looks out to the woods.

Dan: Someone is watching us from the woods.

Dan: It's almost that Peter Griffin

Dan: moment

Dan: where it says the title of the movie.

Gav: Yeah, yeah, I watch that one.

Dan: So Betty does now tell the story.

Dan: She says her husband died in the war

Dan: and Karen

Dan: was her only daughter.

Dan: She was 16 years old

Dan: Um

Dan: and there was an eclipse that night.

Dan: There was a night the night she died or vanished.

Dan: And all they know is that she was sort of playing in the woods and

Dan: there's an old church in the woods

Dan: And they share like a flashback to

Dan: lightning striking the church

Dan: right bang on the middle of the eclipse.

Dan: And then some kids run out of the church.

Dan: The church catches

Dan: by.

Dan: And nobody ever

Dan: saw her again.

Dan: Nobody found Karen

Dan: 's body.

Dan: Just very

Dan: strange.

Dan: They searched the woods, they searched the the ruins of the church, and Karen

Dan: was just

Dan: was just nowhere to be found.

Dan: Um

Dan: Nobody, nothing.

Dan: And she said, as far as I know, they were playing blind man's bluff

Dan: or a game that involved

Dan: some

Dan: kind of blindfold.

Dan: And obviously Karen's been

Dan: um sorry

Dan: Jan's been seeing like these images of this ghostly girl in a blindfold.

Dan: So it's a very sort of Sunday afternoon

Dan: Disney TV movie at this point, but

Dan: very nice, very

Dan: cozy.

Dan: She tells her parents later on, they

Dan: obviously don't believe her.

Dan: Um, you know, you're being silly.

Dan: There's no such thing as ghosts.

Dan: We've come here for your dad's work and you're being disruptive.

Gav: Stop talking to us at the dinner table about your days, events.

Gav: We don't care.

Gav: We're just gonna talk about your dad's

Gav: work.

Gav: Brilliant.

Dan: So we

Dan: got to

Dan: a very exciting scene

Dan: though.

Dan: It's very

Gav: adrenaline pumps, actually.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: Fast and Furious.

Dan: This is this is

Dan: This is as X games as you got in 1980 in a British Disney horror film.

Gav: Yeah, totally.

Dan: Set the scene for us, Gav, what's going on?

Gav: It's like a motorbike rally, so all the kids are there, there's just stuff going around.

Gav: And

Gav: uh the fella

Gav: that uh

Gav: they like, um

Gav: uh

Gav: what

Gav: the

Gav: Mike.

Gav: Yeah, Mike.

Gav: He's there and he's he's gonna be competing.

Dan: And the girls are all the girls from the village are like, oh my god, these guys.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: And they're doing big jumps off of these big dirt mines.

Dan: Um

Dan: and Jan's trying to get a better look at Mike as he goes around.

Dan: And then something really strange happens

Dan: where

Dan: the girls get separated and Jan is stood on this big rock.

Dan: for a better view

Dan: and then she hears her sister

Dan: scream or shout her name or something

Dan: and she looks around and she's like

Dan: oh I wonder why she's

Dan: It's distressed.

Dan: So she gets off the big rock and

Dan: runs over

Dan: to

Dan: her little sister.

Dan: Just as she gets to her

Dan: little sister, she says, what

Dan: is it?

Dan: Why'd you call me?

Dan: She said, I didn't call you.

Dan: I didn't say anything.

Dan: But somebody did

Dan: because

Dan: and good job as well because one of the boys comes off his bike and his bike flies through the air, smashes into that rock where it literally

Dan: she

Dan: just stood

Dan: and the whole thing explodes

Dan: And

Dan: yeah, it's uh

Dan: somebody saved her life.

Dan: Somebody was watching from the woods

Dan: and saved her life.

Gav: Indeed.

Gav: Mmm.

Dan: So

Dan: the girls

Dan: discuss this a bit later

Dan: and

Dan: Jan

Dan: definitely thinks

Dan: This is Karen, this

Dan: this dead daughter.

Dan: She thinks

Dan: I think Karen

Dan: is the one that's watching us from the woods.

Dan: And she starts to

Dan: build a theory that Karen, her spirit

Dan: is out there somewhere and needs to be released or rescued.

Gav: And Mike

Gav: asks

Gav: the mum.

Dan: He says

Dan: my mum was with her the night she died.

Dan: That's why she freaked out when she saw the word Karen.

Dan: Let's go ask my mum about it now.

Dan: So he he sits down with his new girlfriend.

Dan: Not the first

Dan: race

Dan: first meeting with your potential future in-laws.

Dan: Mum, tell me about the night that girl died when you were

Dan: doing a

Dan: bitch roll in a church

Dan: Because my girlfriend thinks she's seen the ghost of her.

Dan: But

Dan: um

Dan: initially his mum sort of says, well look, I just think she ran away from home.

Dan: We don't really know anything about it.

Dan: But then eventually she recounts what happened that night.

Dan: And

Dan: we get a little snippet of it, we get more of it later, but but spoiler is

Dan: basically drawing an eclipse.

Dan: They decided to do this weird initiation ceremony to this Karen

Dan: girl

Dan: where they it was just more of a silly game really

Dan: mucking around.

Dan: They blindfolded her in a church.

Dan: And they they said some words

Dan: and said, you know, is she worthy?

Dan: And then as they said that, lightning struck the church, the bell fell down, it all caught fire.

Dan: She's kind of like

Dan: she's vanished.

Gav: In a way, that

Gav: with

Gav: the children.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: Doing the sacrifice.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Yeah, yeah.

Dan: So they've got a little snippet of information now as to what potentially has happened.

Dan: to this Karen

Dan: Karen

Dan: girl.

Dan: But we still don't know.

Dan: We

Dan: 're still under the impression this is a ghost story.

Dan: A and I guess

Dan: nine

Dan: ninety

Dan: nine percent of this is a ghost story.

Gav: But yeah, 'cause there's a scene in the moment when they go riding through the woods and the horses get spooked and

Gav: at that point I'm like, is it watching

Gav: Like

Gav: travels

Gav: as a spirit.

Dan: Like a horse whisperer.

Gav: I don't know.

Gav: Just like travels through the woods and then

Gav: Casey

Gav: goes to the house.

Gav: I don't know

Gav: You don't really know what the defined antagonist of this film is yet.

Gav: You're still probably thinking it is something like that.

Dan: I mean yet again the parents go away.

Dan: So David McCallum and and and the woman that played

Dan: the mum, they had a good

Dan: name

Dan: Easy ride.

Dan: They probably only filmed for a few days because they're always going off.

Dan: A lot of their scenes are them going, right, we're off again.

Dan: See you later, we're off in our car again.

Dan: Leaving just the two young girls and Mike who says

Dan: let's go

Dan: horse riding in the woods as Gab's just said.

Dan: So

Dan: um

Dan: they're walking through the woods

Dan: and he says to

Dan: the younger dull

Dan: uh sister, won't you go off her head for a little bit?

Dan: She's like, oh, okay, so you guys can uh

Dan: get to know each other better.

Dan: So she does, the

Dan: little sister goes off on her horse and he says to Cap

Dan: to Jan

Dan: look

Dan: I've tried to talk

Dan: tried to talk to my mum about this, but

Dan: what did you say

Dan: then?

Gav: Finger

Gav: in

Dan: He said that

Dan: he doesn't finger

Dan: in.

Dan: Not this point.

Dan: He says to Jan, look, I've talked to my mum about this whole thing and she just won't give me any more information and she's been really weird.

Dan: I've never seen her out like this.

Dan: And as they they bring this subject up, the horses get really spooked by another strange light in the woods and a strange wind that blows as well.

Dan: And it wasn't Mike farting.

Dan: And it wasn't Mr.

Gav: Burns

Gav: either.

Gav: So they actually call in Molden

Gav: Scully

Gav: to actually

Gav: those guys actually come to Springfield to investigate

Gav: the woods, the glowing thing in the woods.

Gav: Have to watch that episode.

Gav: It's great.

Dan: Okay.

Dan: Yeah, that sounds like one I should watch.

Gav: Absolutely.

Gav: They they put Homer on a treadmill

Gav: and uh

Gav: um

Gav: uh

Gav: Scully

Gav: 's like

Gav: Mulder, well what's the point of this uh exercise?

Gav: And he says

Gav: It's

Gav: yeah, I can't remember exactly but it's like it's just like a lava laparade, it's just really relaxing and it's just home

Gav: its black

Gav: going.

Gav: Um

Dan: so because of this blinding light and

Dan: strange wind that blows

Dan: Uh Ellie, the younger sister's

Dan: hall

Dan: was

Dan: gets spooked quite badly and starts just bombing along

Dan: really quickly.

Dan: So

Dan: they start chasing her

Dan: It

Dan: she's heading towards the road

Dan: where some poor guy is driving his truck along

Dan: and all of a sudden his horse comes out in front of him so he swerves and he tips his whole truck over.

Dan: He's okay and the horse is okay.

Dan: But she starts heading towards a graveyard

Dan: then.

Dan: Jan falls off of her horse

Dan: and

Dan: they they manage to sort of stop the horse in the end.

Dan: And they

Dan: they come across the church, the burnt out sort of church

Dan: where the ritual took place.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: And we get

Dan: this is where we get the jewels, they

Dan: John Williams

Dan: type music come in now a little bit.

Dan: Um

Dan: So they go into the Burn

Dan: Out

Dan: Church

Dan: and Jan

Dan: sees the glowing triangle, the same triangle that

Dan: it is, which she's seen

Dan: into

Dan: mirrors and windows

Dan: And she's thinking, oh, I'm getting clues from this Karen

Dan: spirit now as to what's

Dan: what's going on.

Dan: And she looks um

Dan: looks around and she sees a ghost girl inside a coffin.

Dan: The same ghost girl, Karen, with a blindfold

Dan: on.

Dan: And then

Dan: some crazy guy.

Dan: Oops, I don't know where

Dan: a guy called Tom.

Dan: Tom the Hermit.

Dan: He's been mentioned once or twice.

Dan: It's Gala

Dan: Defgurst.

Dan: He just starts coming up

Dan: to

Dan: like some old permit with his hand

Dan: stretched out

Dan: like

Dan: 'cause

Dan: he thinks

Dan: So the story is

Dan: he was there that night as well as a boy

Dan: when Karen

Dan: vanished and he thinks

Dan: This girl is Karen

Dan: Come Back

Dan: from

Dan: the Dead, because she looks a lot like Karen

Dan: Blonde.

Dan: Sort of sixteen-year-old girl.

Dan: So he's just like

Dan: outstretched hands

Dan: like

Dan: it's

Dan: you you're back

Dan: uh but Mike approaches me

Dan: like get out of here you old pervert

Dan: bastard

Dan: and um

Dan: tom

Dan: runs off

Dan: and um

Dan: Mike

Dan: Mike sort of has a look around the church with them

Dan: and then all of a sudden another great big wind smashes through the church, smashes some windows.

Gav: This

Gav: makes, you know, is it now like is it a demon

Gav: What is it?

Gav: We still don't know what it is yet, you know.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: And Jan says, all I know is I'm seeing

Dan: circles and triangles everywhere.

Dan: Because at one point these

Dan: two glass circles fall down off the wall of the church and they form

Dan: a solar eclipse because one has got a picture of the sun on it and one's got a picture of the moon on it and they kind of overlap.

Dan: So

Dan: you start to understand as an audience

Dan: that

Dan: something to do with the eclipse

Dan: and they've also mentioned

Dan: funny

Dan: enough

Dan: To tomorrow,

Dan: as in the film, tomorrow there's another

Dan: solar eclipse happening.

Dan: So it's

Dan: it's destined that

Dan: Karen

Dan: vanished during an eclipse and there's going to be an eclipse happening tomorrow for these guys.

Dan: So again, as an audience member, we're like,

Dan: okay, so something's going to happen here with the eclipse and everything like that.

Dan: But they don't know what it means, they

Dan: don't know what the triangles and the circles mean at this point.

Dan: Then we cut to a new character, Mr.

Dan: Keller.

Dan: who

Dan: was also a boy on the night that

Dan: Karen

Dan: vanished.

Dan: And Tom, the old hermit, goes up to me and says,

Dan: I've seen

Dan: I've seen her, I think she's back.

Dan: And he's like,

Dan: You're telling me that Karen's back, she can't be back.

Dan: It's just some girl that looks like a you

Dan: fool.

Dan: Um, and they discussed that night and he says, I've told you

Dan: it happened

Dan: 30 years ago.

Dan: You're never allowed to discuss it.

Dan: None of us ever discuss it.

Dan: So those kids have never discussed what happened that night.

Dan: They've never told anybody about it.

Dan: It's uh

Gav: manager.

Gav: I know what he did last summer scenario.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: Make a pact

Dan: Um

Dan: we get another fun scene now at a roller

Dan: coaster

Dan: uh

Dan: funfair

Dan: They're on a ghost train.

Dan: Supposed to be a jump

Dan: scare.

Dan: Didn't really make me jump, but

Dan: cuts to like a

Dan: inside of a ghost train and Mike and Jan

Dan: are on a date

Dan: And they're sort of going through the Hall of the Mirrors and the and all the roller coaster and everything.

Dan: And in the Hall of Mirrors, you get that kind of end to the dragon moment now.

Dan: But it's not Bruce Lee that appears multiple times around

Dan: Jan.

Dan: It is Karen

Dan: with her blindfold

Dan: on

Dan: And this time you can clearly see her mouthing the words

Dan: help me.

Dan: Help me.

Dan: And I remember this is one of the things that really

Dan: scared me as a kid.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Mirrors, you know, a girl sort of mouthing the words.

Dan: You can't hear it, you

Dan: just see, help me

Dan: Help me.

Dan: You can clearly hear us.

Gav: It's such a creepy movie, Disney.

Gav: Who's this for?

Dan: I know.

Dan: I know it really is.

Dan: Um

Dan: So yeah, she sees this girl again and she comes out and she says to my

Dan: look

Dan: this girl is definitely trapped and she needs help

Dan: wherever she is she's trapped

Dan: but she needs help

Dan: So she doesn't think she's still alive.

Dan: She knows she's dead, but she

Dan: thinks her spirit is sort of trapped in limbo and needs to be released, whether that is because

Dan: they find out the true story of what happened or whatever it is that it might be

Dan: But she needs to

Dan: get her released.

Dan: So Jan goes to visit Mr.

Dan: Keller, because she knows he was involved in it when he was a child as well.

Dan: And he says, I need to talk to you about Karen.

Dan: She needs help.

Dan: I've seen her.

Dan: I've seen her in mirrors.

Dan: It just basically tells her to fuck off.

Dan: Says, get

Dan: away from me, you crazy young girl.

Dan: I don't know what you're talking about.

Dan: So no adults are helping her, her parents are away, she's seen ghosts in mirrors, strong winds are blowing her sister off a horse.

Dan: It's all going on for her

Dan: Poor girl, she just wants to get fingered by Mike.

Dan: You know, but it's not happening at the moment.

Gav: No.

Dan: So Jan decides

Dan: I'll go into the woods

Dan: then.

Gav: Why not?

Dan: I'll go into the woods and see what I can find.

Gav: Get some more POV shots from the woods.

Dan: Yep, someone's following her.

Dan: And she goes there.

Dan: The reason she's gone there is she wants to get this because she knows this Tom guy.

Dan: He's good

Dan: I'll put this politely.

Dan: He's quite simple.

Dan: Um, so she knows she could probably extract some more information from him.

Dan: And last time she saw him was at this church.

Dan: So she goes to this church.

Dan: Tom?

Dan: Tom, are you here?

Dan: Tom?

Dan: We get a

Dan: classic cat

Dan: to jump

Dan: together.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Just a cat.

Dan: But it's Tom

Dan: 's cat.

Dan: A cat that he rescued.

Dan: So he turns up and he's like,

Dan: I rescue all these animals, so

Dan: he

Dan: does.

Dan: And he gives her a crow, a fucking crow

Dan: a crow.

Dan: He said, Hold my crow

Dan: a minute.

Dan: I

Dan: rescued that one too.

Dan: And

Dan: would

Dan: you ever hold a crow, Gav?

Dan: If you met a man called Tom in an old abandoned church and he handed you a crow.

Gav: Yeah, if he's holding it, yeah, no

Gav: one.

Dan: I don't know

Dan: man, crows are pretty gnarly.

Dan: Big beaks.

Gav: Yeah, uh

Gav: well, hopefully it won't

Gav: take your eyes out.

Gav: Or

Gav: or try and put his head

Gav: right in your mouth.

Gav: Yeah

Dan: Fucking hell.

Gav: Figure.

Dan: Whenever I think of crows

Dan: or ravens, I I think of that um

Dan: scene in uh

Dan: The Witch

Dan: where the crow is

Dan: eating her nipple.

Dan: Um

Dan: So

Dan: Jan was correct in that Tom is quite simple.

Dan: She does manage to extract some information from him.

Dan: Initially he's quite resistant.

Dan: He says, Oh, but Mr.

Dan: Kellars told me not to tell anybody about that night.

Dan: And you look just like her.

Dan: You're not, Karen, I know you're not now.

Dan: But I can't talk about it, I can't talk about it.

Dan: And then he says, All I can tell you is

Dan: the bell fell down, but before the bell had even hit the ground, Karen

Dan: wasn't there.

Dan: And that's why we never found her body.

Dan: She literally vanished into thin air

Dan: So this is even more intriguing now.

Dan: Well what the hell happened to her?

Dan: And Jan's desperate to find the truth.

Dan: He says

Dan: she says, why the blindfold?

Dan: Um

Dan: and he draws like a crack on the ground.

Dan: Sorry, a circle on the ground and says, we were doing Ring of Ring of

Dan: Roses.

Dan: And he describes what I said earlier basically, which is they were doing this hazing game

Dan: where

Dan: they were trying to initiate her into their gang, their silly little gang, and they did this pretend ritual, which happened to be on an eclipse, just as some lightning struck.

Dan: And as I've said, before the belt even hit the ground and before the church caught on fire

Dan: her body vanished, which obviously freaked these kids out, and that's why they've never told anybody about it.

Dan: And they've just grown up

Dan: pretending that never happened when they were kids.

Dan: Um

Dan: later on, Ellie, the little

Dan: sister, is singing a song.

Dan: humming it and Betty says

Dan: where

Dan: did you hear that?

Dan: Where do you hear that tune?

Dan: She says, oh I don't know.

Dan: I've just sort of heard it.

Dan: I think my sister might have sung it once.

Dan: She says, come

Dan: here.

Dan: And Betty Davis brings out this

Dan: uh

Dan: sort of music box

Dan: and

Dan: says

Dan: this belonged to my

Dan: currency.

Dan: It was her favourite

Dan: favorite tune.

Dan: That's her tune.

Gav: Betty Davis'

Gav: storyline's very like

Gav: cliche

Gav: though, isn't it?

Dan: She just delivers all the cliches all the way through this.

Gav: But then there's a daughter, oh that's uh

Gav: oh

Gav: that's what she used to

Gav: wrestle.

Gav: Oh

Gav: come here, I've got this music box,

Gav: that

Gav: 's the same song, oh yeah, it's all those cliches she's got.

Dan: She says to the young daughter, so your

Dan: sister's seeing things, but have you heard voices as well?

Dan: And she starts sort of really

Dan: getting quite cross with her, like, tell me, tell me, have you heard voices?

Dan: My Karen

Dan: You know, is my

Dan: has anybody heard from her?

Dan: And at this point, Jan comes in.

Dan: She tells Betty, look, stop, I know what's happened.

Dan: There was a ritual

Dan: on an eclipse.

Dan: Um

Dan: And Ellie

Dan: says, suddenly

Dan: gets

Dan: it

Dan: goes into a trance and she has a message.

Dan: And she just says this message, like it's like coming out of her mouth, but it's not really her.

Dan: And she says.

Dan: You must open the door in the chapel room.

Dan: You must open the door in the

Dan: chapel room.

Dan: And then she says, I'm not Karen.

Dan: Um

Dan: and at this point

Dan: it's quite stressful.

Dan: And this is where their mum happens to get back from work

Dan: She so she's walked into Becky David's cottage, which

Dan: I've got

Dan: for the tramps.

Gav: What's for

Gav: TE

Dan: And she

Dan: says, what's going on here?

Dan: You get

Dan: she's really cross and she wants to take the girls out of here because she thinks Betty's sort of corrupting them with these weird

Dan: stories and

Dan: you know that she's not happy about the way that they're acting and all that kind of stuff so she says

Dan: we're leaving him

Dan: we're leaving right now let's get in the car

Dan: but

Dan: They choose to leave

Dan: at the moment it gets pitch black outside

Dan: and there's a huge thunderstorm.

Dan: So they're

Dan: they're driving along.

Dan: three women, three girls, and

Dan: the car breaks down on a bridge.

Dan: Much like the scrambler bike incident, the motorbike incident, they

Dan: get out of the car just as lightning strikes the bridge and the whole bridge crumbles

Dan: with

Dan: the car

Dan: into

Dan: the

Dan: river.

Dan: So

Dan: another narrow escape for them there.

Dan: Um

Gav: we get like a

Gav: we do get like a POV around the house.

Dan: Somebody yeah, somebody creeping around the house.

Gav: So you're like

Gav: what

Gav: so i i

Gav: is that

Gav: POV

Gav: Karen

Gav: 's ghost?

Gav: That's what you

Gav: still like

Gav: who

Gav: who

Gav: 's

Gav: is is Karen

Gav: a bad person or a good person?

Gav: What

Gav: what

Gav: what's their goal?

Gav: Are they trying to hurt them?

Gav: Are they

Gav: not trying to hurt them?

Gav: What's

Gav: What's going on?

Dan: I think she

Dan: so

Dan: spoiler alert

Dan: she's basically trapped in some kind of limbo.

Dan: Another dimension it turns out.

Dan: And I think she's tr using

Dan: have you seen Interstellar

Gav: No, because of that, I feel like it's got

Gav: sad moments with uh him and his son, so I don't want to watch.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: But he basically tries to communicate from another dimension to his son.

Dan: And I feel like Karen

Dan: is trapped in this

Dan: limbo

Dan: and she's trying to sort of

Dan: At least get what happened to her

Dan: solved

Dan: so that people can rest and she can maybe rest as well.

Dan: So I think that's what the POV is.

Dan: It's

Dan: It

Dan: is her spirit, but not in a ghost way, as in she's just in another plane of existence, if that makes sense.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Jan

Dan: shouts

Dan: at the woods, you know, she says, please leave me and my sister alone.

Dan: Whoever you are, whatever you are, Karen, whoever you are.

Dan: Um

Dan: their

Dan: mum seems to be

Dan: Coming around to this now, this idea that this might actually be happening.

Dan: So

Dan: um

Dan: That night

Dan: Jan goes to bed and she starts dreaming about the ritual

Dan: and Karen

Dan: Ellie writes

Dan: on the mirror

Dan: in a trance, do

Dan: again tomorrow.

Dan: And she's like, you've written this on the mirror, what does it mean?

Dan: She's like, I didn't write this.

Dan: She's like, I've just seen you write, do

Dan: again tomorrow.

Dan: And then she figures out what's happening tomorrow.

Dan: An eclipse.

Gav: Repeat, repeat the ceremony, but with an eclipse.

Dan: And that's the key to this whole mystery

Dan: is they did this on an eclipse, the night of an eclipse.

Dan: Um

Dan: so

Dan: John

Dan: calls um

Dan: sorry

Dan: Jan calls Mike

Dan: And she says, this is my theory.

Dan: We need to get

Dan: Tom, Mr.

Dan: Keller, and your mum together, because they were the kids that did this ritual back in the day.

Dan: What was it like 30 years ago maybe?

Dan: And

Dan: they need to do it again

Dan: as adults

Dan: in the same church, right on top of the eclipse

Dan: So she goes and she begs Mr.

Dan: Keller

Dan: to do it.

Dan: Um

Dan: imagine this, imagine this girl goes, you know that thing you did 30 years ago when you were just mucking around in an old church and that girl sort of vanished or died

Dan: Do you mind doing it again?

Dan: 'Cause I've got a theory that she's trapped in limbo

Dan: and we could maybe free her or at least set her to rest.

Gav: But he knows that the

Gav: spooky goes on, he knows like her souls

Gav: are uh

Gav: uh

Gav: are still there.

Gav: He knows that.

Gav: So I think you probably

Gav: yeah

Gav: this is uh

Gav: it'd be like

Gav: no one ever comes here and decides to try and solve this thing.

Gav: I have to live this shit every day

Gav: And you uh

Gav: so I'm gonna take you up on your opportunity because no one ever talks about this shit.

Gav: The ghost

Gav: child.

Dan: So this is where the quite chaotic, quite short ending starts

Dan: really now.

Dan: So the three adults are persuaded to hold hands.

Dan: Jam takes the place of where Karen

Dan: would have been because she looks similar to her with a blindfold on

Dan: and they start repeating the exact words that they repeated all those years ago just as the eclipse hits.

Dan: uh

Dan: it

Dan: all starts all these weird lights start appearing

Dan: jam

Dan: starts floating up in the air

Dan: Mike's worried.

Dan: He's like

Dan: stop

Dan: break the circle now.

Dan: Break the circle.

Dan: But you can't seem to undo their hands.

Dan: And

Dan: it looks like she's about to disappear at one point.

Dan: um

Dan: Jan

Dan: and then they hear a voice

Dan: Karen's voice I'm guessing it is

Dan: sort of booming out

Dan: um

Dan: and it's coming from Ellie this time

Dan: and she says

Dan: I

Dan: swap

Dan: places I switched

Dan: places

Dan: I show

Dan: I was never meant to be here

Dan: and you're like what what is going on at this point

Dan: um

Dan: Who did Karen

Dan: switch places with?

Dan: And then more weird lights and more weird winds come in.

Dan: And it turns out that

Dan: And again, it's never explained if it's aliens.

Dan: I like to think it was perhaps interdimensional aliens or something.

Dan: But basically, because they

Dan: they happen to perform this crazy ritual during a lightning storm on an eclipse

Dan: they basically accidentally put

Dan: their friend Karen

Dan: into

Dan: another dimension.

Gav: Yeah, it's it's pretty out there, but I do like that idea though.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: Uh and they bring her back.

Gav: But why

Gav: But

Gav: when she comes back she's like

Gav: The PTSD that I'm gonna suffer from being in another dimension, you do not even understand.

Gav: Like her day to day has been in another dimension.

Gav: What's she doing?

Gav: What's she eating?

Dan: She's still sixteen.

Gav: Oh, so she's

Gav: time

Gav: just froze.

Dan: Yeah, so everybody else is age

Dan: like 30 years and she's still 16, like

Dan: her mother is suddenly an old lady, you know?

Dan: Um

Dan: it's a bit like in

Dan: um

Dan: the Marvel movies where Thanos

Dan: snapped

Dan: and half the world vanished.

Dan: But then they brought that half of the world back five years later.

Dan: They called it

Dan: the blip

Dan: in the Marvel world and um

Dan: those people are like dealing with PTSD.

Dan: It's like a bit of a

Dan: storyline that goes through them all.

Dan: No

Dan: suddenly you're back

Dan: to you.

Dan: You're the same age, but everybody else is aged five years.

Dan: Yeah, because he was frozen in an ice for years.

Gav: Yeah

Dan: Yeah, so it kind of ends with the interdimensional thing.

Dan: Um

Dan: ,

Dan: Chan is almost beamed up by aliens?

Dan: I don't know.

Dan: Is it aliens?

Dan: Is it an interdimensional alien?

Dan: Is it ghosts?

Dan: And then we cut to an a picture of the sort of a an image of the eclipse happening.

Dan: But Karen

Dan: is back.

Dan: So is Jan.

Dan: Karen

Dan: hasn't aged at all

Dan: Betty Day Caesar's daughter

Dan: and they hug

Dan: and then the credits kick in for 50 seconds and we're done

Dan: And you

Dan: can

Dan: understand

Dan: why.

Dan: I don't know what the

Dan: original

Dan: ending ending was.

Gav: No.

Dan: But if this is what they did, it I mean

Dan: From somebody who liked this film as a kid and somebody who likes kind of those themes, I'm happy with this ending, but I can understand why actual critics were like

Dan: what a mess of an ending.

Dan: Like what happened?

Dan: There's never nothing was explained

Dan: And even like

Dan: even the aftermath of Betty Davis having to explain to the authorities, well it's alright, I've found my daughter after 30 years.

Dan: She hasn't aged today, she's still sixteen.

Dan: You know,

Dan: it's just like

Dan: It is weird, but I quite like it.

Dan: I quite like it for that

Dan: weirdness.

Dan: I wish I knew what the original ending was

Gav: Yeah, totally.

Gav: Um I I've always thought of it a creepy movie.

Gav: I never

Gav: watched it much since watching it with my grand.

Gav: Uh I might

Gav: watch I think

Gav: I

Gav: I picked like I said, I picked it up on DVD and I watched it when I watched it then

Gav: And then then watch it again because it's it's it's quite tame nowadays.

Gav: It's not really something I would watch now.

Gav: Um

Gav: I would

Gav: go

Gav: saying

Gav: obviously harder

Gav: with actually some blood and death.

Gav: Um

Gav: But it's really weird like I said

Gav: who

Gav: was their audience target for this movie?

Gav: It's very

Gav: strange

Dan: Uh there's a campaign online

Dan: to try and get Disney Plus to put it on streaming, but they won't they've said they'll never do it.

Gav: They're not gonna do it.

Dan: They're not interested in it.

Dan: Um

Dan: if

Dan: you like this movie

Dan: Or

Dan: if you're unsure if

Dan: sorry, if you're unsure if you'll like this movie, if you've not seen it, if you grew up watching films like another Disney film, um, Escape to Witch Mountain.

Dan: uh

Dan: which is a great movie about two alien children who seem to have supernatural powers.

Dan: They remade it with a rock.

Dan: But the original is

Dan: great

Dan: Um

Dan: and it's kind of got elements of that in it as well, particularly because the ending is a little bit like alien, interdimensional, ghostly.

Dan: Um

Dan: Yeah, it

Dan: it's definitely worth a watch if you've never seen it.

Dan: It's an oddity

Dan: I think you'll get more out of it or you'll like

Dan: you'll appreciate it more if it's one that you saw as a kid and if you've never

Dan: like Matthew Godley, one of our patrons, he's never seen this.

Dan: He's either gonna love or hate this.

Dan: It's gonna be one of those ones that if you've never seen it

Dan: It's gonna go either way.

Dan: But then he liked Hansel and Gresel.

Gav: No, I think I think

Gav: uh

Gav: I think

Gav: as an older person, audience member,

Gav: going back

Gav: watching this now for the first time, I think you'd appreciate the uh

Gav: The Betty

Gav: Davis in it, the 80s field of it and stuff, I think you'd

Gav: probably appreciate it.

Gav: It's not it's not gonna

Gav: uh

Gav: set any

Gav: set any new records for anything.

Gav: But it's you know, I think

Gav: I think you know

Dan: I've just found some information on what some of the alternative endings were, if you're interested.

Dan: So one of them was

Dan: Jan

Dan: Vanishing

Dan: as well.

Dan: But they'd laid to rest

Dan: Karen, but basically had to sacrifice Jam.

Dan: So she's gone now as well.

Dan: So

Dan: they've lost two girls

Dan: Another one, they filmed

Dan: some

Dan: um

Dan: scenes with an alien.

Dan: So it was aliens, or at one point the idea was aliens.

Dan: So they

Dan: filmed some scenes with an alien creature

Dan: explaining a bit more about the other dimension as well.

Dan: I think that would have just been too much for kids in 1980

Dan: to try and get their head around interdimensional

Dan: alien

Dan: beings.

Dan: I don't know.

Dan: Um

Dan: and there's also some bits that they shot

Dan: that said it was more to do with witchcraft and Betty Davies may have had witch

Dan: witch blood in her

Dan: ancestry

Dan: and therefore

Dan: her daughter did as well.

Dan: So it sounds like a mess really

Dan: like

Gav: it sounds like Demon

Gav: Warb

Dan: It does sound like Demon Warp.

Dan: And also the reason that Betty Davis never came back for the reshoots

Dan: was because there was a 1980 actor

Dan: strike.

Dan: So she wasn't allowed to come back and do anything.

Dan: So they would have had her in the ending a bit more, but as it turns out, she just ran in and hugged her daughter.

Dan: Um

Dan: I'm gonna give it a thumbs up

Dan: of people who

Dan: either have seen it or haven't seen it for a long time.

Gav: Yeah, I'll give it a thumbs up.

Gav: Um

Gav: but it

Gav: it it's

Gav: like

Gav: I

Gav: said

Gav: it's

Gav: Not doing anything amazing, it's not inventing the wheel.

Gav: But it is

Gav: it is folk

Gav: horror, it's British, it's

Gav: eighties

Gav: It's got a creepy woodland vibe to it.

Gav: So it's got some

Gav: it's got more things better than the

Gav: and the

Gav: bad

Gav: for sure.

Gav: It's a

Gav: set in isolation out in the country.

Gav: It's fine

Gav: Yeah,

Dan: Red has only

Dan: seen the past

Dan: and you've got the pedigree of, you know, Betty Davis and

Dan: David McCallum

Dan: in it.

Dan: And a great director as well.

Dan: Um

Dan: so yeah.

Dan: There you go, Holly.

Dan: That's our review of Watch You're in the Woods.

Dan: Thank you so much, Holly, for picking that.

Dan: I forgot uh to give you

Dan: a crown.

Dan: God, I'm so out of uh touch

Dan: that um I'll have to send you a real crown in the post

Dan: Uh you'll have to give it back for the next patron.

Dan: But um

Dan: forgot to give you your fake crown to wear for the episode, I'm so sorry.

Gav: Bastards.

Gav: Um

Dan: but you have been

Dan: this episode's papa

Dan: pa

Dan: patron, Holly, so thank you so so much.

Dan: Uh

Dan: well now it's time for

Dan: our new segment which we've only done once.

Gav: I can't even remember.

Gav: Do we actually have a theme for

Gav: Oh

Gav: to we just make it up, I can't remember.

Dan: We don't have a theme, we just went we just went pop

Dan: up

Dan: up fiction.

Gav: And then we went into it, yeah?

Dan: We did.

Dan: So basically

Dan: pop fiction is our new segment where we

Dan: we alternate between me and Gal

Dan: bringing a piece of pop fiction, usually from the the 80s, but it might be from the 90s or 70s.

Dan: Something that was out there in the zeitgeist

Dan: Something that really hit hard.

Dan: The first

Dan: segment we did was me last episode.

Dan: I did the garbage belt kids and the phenomena of the garbage belt

Dan: kits.

Dan: They were banned in schools.

Dan: They were a bit of a gateway into

Dan: horror thing.

Dan: They were a piss take

Dan: off the garb

Dan: the um cabbage

Dan: patch kids, all that kind of stuff.

Dan: So

Dan: this

Dan: time

Dan: Gav

Dan: is bringing something to the table.

Dan: So

Dan: let's go

Dan: let's go into pop fiction.

Dan: I don't know if we're gonna sing it or if we're gonna go into it or

Gav: just

Gav: Pop

Gav: pop

Gav: fiction

Gav: fiction

Gav: pop

Gav: pop

Gav: fiction

Gav: pop

Gav: fiction

Gav: pop

Dan: fiction

Gav: it's pop

Gav: fiction

Gav: Hello

Gav: everybody, welcome back again to another little segment, our latest news segment

Gav: for Dan

Gav: and I.

Gav: Um

Gav: is

Gav: our little cult corner.

Gav: We talk about culty things.

Gav: And

Gav: culty thing I'm speaking of today

Gav: is something which I loved.

Gav: as a kid and I'm sure everyone else did and it's really weird it just

Gav: happened

Gav: and there's this massive boom in

Gav: UK.

Gav: I don't know about the world

Gav: or I think possibly in America as well and possibly Canada

Gav: Ninjas.

Gav: Fucking ninjas.

Dan: They were everywhere in the eighties, weren't they?

Gav: Just everywhere.

Gav: There's just ninjas everywhere.

Gav: People had

Gav: posters of ninjas

Gav: everywhere.

Gav: My friend

Gav: came back from America with actual proper phone

Gav: stars and we lifted up our wooden desks at break time and would just throw phone

Gav: stars at them, which

Gav: was extremely dangerous

Gav: and we were like

Gav: eight or nine and it's

Gav: extremely dangerous.

Gav: But ninjas

Gav: are great

Gav: everywhere.

Gav: You could buy n

Gav: you could

Gav: buy

Gav: I remember in Portsmouth there's this big like warehouse shop.

Gav: You go down there they'd sell

Gav: like loads of

Gav: uh

Gav: big sacks of rice.

Gav: Stuff like that's this big sort of warehouse, but

Gav: also

Gav: this one area

Gav: just had all these

Gav: ninja

Gav: posters

Gav: Like

Gav: throwing

Gav: stars, fucking numchucks, all the w

Gav: really illegal looking

Gav: gnarly stuff, but you

Gav: could just buy it all.

Gav: And there's just ninja

Gav: stuff everywhere.

Gav: It's like this place

Gav: is amazing

Gav: Proper weapons.

Dan: Yeah.

Dan: I mean, I think

Dan: this is probably an offshoot of the kung fu

Dan: phenomena from the seventies.

Dan: Because then Chuck Norris started having like ninjas in some of his films.

Dan: There was a couple of James Bond movies that had ninjas in them as well, and they just started

Dan: Slowly bleeding into the mainstream, didn't they?

Dan: Because

Dan: kids at school had G.

Dan: I.

Dan: Joe

Dan: figures and and the best ones were always the ninjas

Gav: Yeah, well the

Gav: ninjas

Gav: were always like the cool thing.

Gav: It's all

Gav: like

Gav: secretive, it's d

Gav: black clothing.

Gav: It's like

Gav: you don't know what's going on.

Gav: But yeah, James Bond movies always jumped in with what was popular at the time

Gav: That's why the uh uh

Gav: Timothy

Gav: Darwin ones were more action uh

Gav: based because of the Schwarzenegger

Gav: type movies at the time.

Gav: So yeah, they would have had ninjas

Gav: in it

Gav: because

Gav: ninjas

Gav: were cool at the time

Gav: And it comes down to things like

Gav: when it comes down to it, it's things like Canon, cinemas

Gav: that, and V

Gav: people

Gav: having

Gav: again

Gav: people having VHS players in their houses, why the slasher boom are so big as well then because the films were being produced because people

Gav: There was money to burn

Gav: and lots of cocaine.

Gav: Um

Gav: so there was loads of ninja

Gav: stuck in

Gav: and there's even video games.

Gav: I was a such a big fan of Shinobi

Gav: I fucking love Shinobi.

Dan: Yes, yes.

Gav: And then there's

Gav: well.

Dan: When I rebuilt

Dan: I don't have it anymore, but I bought

Dan: rebought my s

Dan: a

Dan: Sega

Dan: Master System

Dan: many years ago

Dan: and I had

Dan: there was about four hundred games released in the UK.

Dan: I had about two hundred I rebuilt them all on eBay and I was trying I was

Dan: Aiming to complete the collection, the UK collection, I never did.

Dan: But one of the things I did was buy every game that had ninjas and kung

Dan: fu

Dan: in it.

Gav: Yeah

Dan: Um uh

Dan: because there were so many of them.

Dan: There was all the shinobi games, like you said, there was Shadow Dancer, there was um

Dan: there was a m a game just called The Ninja

Dan: that I had.

Dan: Um

Gav: Ninja Gaiden, the last ninja, the

Gav: stuff

Dan: I mean you're right, they were really

Dan: they were really everywhere really.

Dan: They

Dan: they were in movies, obviously,

Dan: cheap Canon and Chuck Norris movies, they were in James Bond movies.

Dan: There was

Dan: elements of it in Enter the Dragon when Bruce goes out in his costume, you know, late late at night.

Gav: I feel like seventy-three

Dan: Somewhere in

Dan: there, yeah.

Gav: Uh I think that was that first instance of cause obviously Enter

Gav: Dragon was bringing uh

Gav: to an American audience and the Western audience

Gav: the the

Gav: the

Gav: something they'd not really seen as much, especially

Gav: pretty

Gav: bringing it to the mainstream that is, with

Gav: Enter

Gav: Dragon and Warner Warner Brothers

Gav: behind it, backing it properly.

Gav: Um, I think that

Gav: sort of brought ninjas

Gav: for the first time, bringing it in.

Gav: And then I say

Gav: like

Gav: Canon

Gav: kind

Gav: of cinema.

Gav: And then obviously once upon a time

Gav: we had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Gav: But in England, being England and the way they are with

Gav: censorship thinking that all of a sudden we're gonna hurt each other because of a name, they

Gav: changed it to Hero Turtles, which is

Gav: fucking ridiculous.

Dan: Yeah, so they

Dan: I mean just a quick one because that's sort of my wheelhouse, they

Dan: also

Dan: deleted any element of Michelangelo's nunchucks in the cartoon and the the movie when the movie came out.

Dan: When the movie came out in nineteen ninety, it was still called Teeny's Mutant Ninja Turtles 'cause they couldn't change the name of the movie, but

Dan: the live action movie, but

Dan: In the UK we still had a an edited version of the real film, which I've since now got on DVD, etcetera, where anytime Michelangelo uses nunchucks, they were deleted.

Dan: Just like Enter the Dragon didn't have nunchucks in it in the UK initially.

Gav: I own them now.

Dan: I mean

Dan: there was a point I've got

Dan: over there actually.

Dan: There was a point where

Dan: um

Dan: so I think

Dan: I think it started with adults, because

Dan: it was adult films and kung fu

Dan: movies, but those naturally then were picked up by younger sort of

Dan: teens

Dan: And it worked its way down through the masses because then as I've said earlier, you had G.

Dan: I.

Dan: Joe

Dan: had quite a lot of ninja

Dan: toys in it.

Dan: There was ninja toys coming out of my ears.

Dan: I had

Dan: There was a He-Man figure called Ninjaw, who was a

Dan: He-Man figure, and he was a ninja in He-man.

Dan: Like what what the hell's going on?

Dan: There was my mum I remember being in the paper shop when my mum said, Oh look

Dan: and there was a plastic set of like

Dan: there was a mask you put on

Dan: And it also came with like three plastic ninja stars and a plastic sword and it was just

Dan: ninja

Dan: outfit.

Dan: So I

Dan: my mum bought me that and I was like, Yes, I'm a ninja, this is great.

Dan: So it really started off with the canon stuff and bled

Dan: all the way down through the

Dan: The culture didn't it?

Gav: And I'm currently trying to make ninja

Gav: with uh Elijah and I bought him a ninja costume.

Gav: We've been filming bits and bobs to make a little ninja

Gav: video

Gav: just

Gav: full

Gav: off.

Gav: Do you remember the uh uh

Gav: one thing which was really uh some

Gav: I just look at this here

Gav: I was like

Gav: fucking hell

Gav: I remember that

Gav: the martial arts magazines

Gav: did you ever buy them

Gav: Everyone bought them and it's so weird, you just buy them.

Gav: I wouldn't re even

Gav: read them, but then the back covers would s uh

Gav: in

Gav: there'd sell stuff inside.

Gav: You could buy ninja stuff, you could send away for

Gav: So weird I'd buy ninja

Gav: magazines.

Gav: I don't

Gav: why do I what do I

Gav: uh

Gav: sorry

Gav: martial arts magazine, why am I buying this?

Gav: But it was such a craze, wasn't it?

Gav: I did karate

Gav: myself

Dan: I used to get inside kung fu.

Dan: Um

Dan: I mean I was already into martial arts because of obviously Jackie Chan, but Bruce Lee.

Dan: And I and I

Dan: so I and I did do kung

Dan: fu

Dan: I've done several martial arts over the years

Dan: So it's always been a fascination of mine

Dan: coming through

Dan: martial arts movies, but there was a something about the ninjas

Dan: that was

Dan: so mystical

Dan: and so

Dan: There was just so many like

Dan: made up things that we all believed

Dan: they could disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Dan: They were a master of all weapons.

Dan: They could climb walls with these little claws on their hands.

Dan: They would hide under the d

Dan: the sand in the desert and pop

Dan: out.

Dan: They were m

Dan: they were a bit magical.

Dan: They could

Dan: blend in, they could disguise themselves.

Gav: Do you re

Gav: remember these then?

Gav: The books which were kind of uh

Gav: a lot thicker, a bit more square, and the front covers would be like uh

Gav: kind of a photograph of just someone in a ninja costume.

Gav: costume

Gav: and it would be a bit cheap and they were ninja um uh

Gav: training books.

Dan: Yes, I do remember those.

Dan: I've seen them in secondhand shops.

Gav: It's so

Gav: like what the fuck?

Gav: Someone that is out there is like, oh fucking hell.

Gav: Oi

Gav: Barry, j

Gav: put on this one, put on this and just pull some poses and can take some photos of you

Gav: And make

Gav: up some shit.

Dan: You know, and that's something actually just going back to movies, cheap to make

Dan: because you can easily disguise

Dan: anybody as an inja by putting a mask on them.

Dan: So you can have me

Dan: as the main character

Dan: And then as soon as it's time to put on my ninja clothes, just get someone in who's absolutely kick-ass

Dan: at martial arts and it's me with a mask on.

Gav: That's a really good idea.

Gav: But uh

Gav: what I was thinking of Elijah's costume, I bought a really

Gav: long

Gav: one for him he has to tuck it up quite so long.

Gav: I was like

Gav: I thought

Gav: I know what it's gonna be like.

Gav: It's gonna take me for ages to make this.

Gav: It's gonna

Gav: also

Gav: grow bigger.

Gav: So there'd be shots of him always saying bigger then it'd be smaller and I thought that'd be quite funny

Gav: actually

Gav: Um

Dan: it really did hit all areas, didn't it?

Dan: Um

Gav: Yeah, I had a poster in my wall and there's always a classic posters where you'd have like an

Gav: a

Gav: close up a ninja's face with his sword next to him

Gav: and his hand on a pose and a little bit of writing.

Gav: Which probably said like

Gav: you're a dickhead

Gav: in Chinese.

Dan: Japanese.

Gav: Japanese, yeah.

Gav: And that was it.

Gav: Those sort of things.

Gav: Everyone had them as well.

Dan: It was

Dan: It was even in the charts, you know.

Dan: We had obviously

Dan: we had the

Dan: Turtle Power song, but we also had the Ninja Rap by Vanilla Ice.

Dan: That was in the charts

Dan: and

Dan: I think

Dan: I feel like the peak of it was with the Ninja Turtles in the late eighties, going into the early nineties.

Dan: That was the peak of like

Dan: ninja

Dan: craze

Dan: It was definitely throughout the whole eighties.

Dan: You know, every

Dan: it felt like every film had ninjas in it at some point.

Dan: Even horror films

Dan: Famously, Ricky Morgan will know, um, Ninja Three The Domination, which is like

Dan: an exorcist movie

Dan: but with ninjas

Dan: in it.

Dan: And then you had like

Dan: we used to rent out movies like there was one called Ninja Terminator.

Gav: Well

Dan: and Ninja

Dan: Ninja Jaguar.

Gav: Well looking at it, the first sort of one really

Gav: was nineteen eighty one and that was Enter the Ninja.

Dan: Yeah

Dan: It's show

Dan: um

Dan: show

Dan: oh

Dan: Kazuki?

Gav: It was cut

Gav: quite a lot, but

Dan: Sho Kazuki I think was the main guy in that one.

Gav: Uh Frank Franco

Gav: Nero, um

Gav: the uh

Gav: uh sp

Gav: uh Italian actor, I think it was in it, plays

Gav: Cole, a Western martial artist

Gav: who becomes involved with a ninja

Gav: conflict.

Gav: But the really important name is Shokyoski.

Dan: Shokazuki.

Dan: Shokazugi, yeah.

Gav: Um

Gav: uh

Gav: eighty-free

Gav: had

Gav: revenge of a ninja

Gav: And

Gav: this is it this is again

Gav: going back to me now doing this

Gav: video

Gav: shop YouTube

Gav: channel.

Gav: I

Gav: going

Gav: into the video

Gav: shop you would actually look up and see lots

Gav: loads of different ninja

Gav: in your

Gav: plot

Gav: Fuck is this?

Gav: I don't even know what this is.

Gav: And it's like it's otherworldly

Gav: because you didn't have the internet.

Gav: You only knew your little town.

Gav: But it's like

Gav: what

Gav: what is this?

Gav: Ninja.

Gav: I used to like the old

Gav: Spider-Man

Gav: movies

Gav: Where it is obviously him crawling along on the ground, but they turned the camera sideways

Gav: and really dodgy costumes.

Gav: But that had like ninja stuff in it and things

Dan: I've got it on tape

Dan: actually just behind me.

Dan: Um

Dan: yeah, there was

Dan: they made like three Spider-Man movies in the 70s and one of them was called Spider-Man vs.

Dan: the

Dan: Dragon

Dan: clan and it was yeah, Spider-Man basically fighting loads of ninjas

Dan: and that was so cool for me.

Dan: But

Dan: then you know

Gav: uh and then you got a sort of more cemented we're going more into white people doing it with American Ninja

Dan: Yeah, American Ninja 1, 2 and 3.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: So that really sort of s

Gav: puts it in

Gav: going

Gav: like, yeah, well

Gav: that's where b

Gav: executive producers are like, right, we can start making m

Gav: money now.

Gav: Come on, let's put the white person in there

Gav: Um

Gav: but yeah video

Gav: shops

Gav: had loads of ninja

Gav: movies, those are stuff going on.

Gav: And obviously Chuck Chuck Norris, you know

Dan: And it's still happening now because one of Lego

Dan: 's biggest exports right now is Ninjago.

Dan: They've got

Dan: movies of uh

Dan: toys.

Gav: Lego

Gav: does it, kind of makes it uh

Gav: seem a lot more

Gav: Child friendly.

Gav: And then then you go you

Gav: can have ninjas

Gav: in kids' movies and things.

Gav: You've got like uh

Gav: Kung Free Panda.

Dan: Yeah, Kung Free Panda.

Gav: Has ninjas in it.

Dan: And my son, he absolutely loves anything ninja.

Dan: He does not know

Dan: kung fu, karate, or any of that.

Dan: He doesn't know what those things are.

Dan: But anyone who does a kick or a punch or has a sword

Dan: He just says, oh, they're being a ninja.

Dan: But isn't to him any martial arts is ninja.

Gav: One thing about this

Gav: w

Gav: the ninja

Gav: which

Gav: is

Gav: best

Gav: is the word ninja, if you look at the word ninja, it's a cool fucking word of five letters.

Gav: It's just cool.

Dan: Yeah, it is.

Gav: Is

Gav: it ninja?

Gav: So

Gav: fuck that's cool.

Dan: It is.

Gav: It just

Gav: is.

Dan: I wonder what it translates to.

Dan: Um

Dan: ninja

Dan: meanie.

Gav: But yeah, uh I used to have ninja

Gav: toys as a kid as well, so

Gav: loads of

Gav: plastic shit.

Dan: It means

Dan: so ninja is

Dan: is pronounced

Dan: or shinobi

Dan: both mean the same

Dan: which is

Dan: to hide.

Dan: So it's it's all about hiding and uh deception.

Dan: And

Gav: stealthful, isn't it?

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Yeah,

Dan: stealth.

Dan: Because I had that game on the PlayStation

Dan: 1 called Tenchu

Dan: If you ever played that way, you were a ninja.

Dan: Oh my god, it was so good.

Dan: You'd have to like the aim of the game, it was a bit like um

Dan: I never played

Dan: I never played it but um

Dan: Metal Gear is solid, I know you had to sneak around to that.

Gav: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Dan: Yeah, so with this one you were a ninja

Dan: And you couldn't make any sounds, you had to

Dan: and if you made a sound the guy would look round and you had to like, well, do I slit his throat or do I

Gav: just

Dan: you know

Dan: um

Dan: there's even a scene

Dan: a bit in that game where you have to go under the water and breathe through uh a straw

Dan: And

Dan: like

Dan: no one can detect you?

Dan: You've just reminded me of that game from

Dan: PlayStation 1 actually.

Dan: And

Dan: um

Dan: shops were churning out Ninja Toys because I remember you know you could always buy like those

Dan: cheap knockoff action figures.

Dan: That weren't really E

Dan: man, they weren't really a transformer.

Gav: And they

Gav: broke really quickly.

Gav: And you'd be like, What why bother spending money on this?

Gav: Just save up and get something that's gonna not break straight away.

Gav: But

Gav: no

Dan: Uh

Dan: well I remember my mum bought me one of a ninja and it didn't have any it didn't move, it was just like a statue basically of a ninja

Dan: But I used to

Dan: use that as a toy, you know, with all my

Dan: other toys, even

Dan: though I couldn't pose it or do anything with its arms and legs.

Dan: It was a ninja, it's fucking cool.

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: Ninja.

Dan: Ninja.

Dan: Rap.

Gav: Ninja.

Gav: But that is that is today's cult corner.

Gav: Um

Gav: that's what I think I'd come up with a bit of

Gav: bit of ninjas

Gav: because we all like ninjas.

Gav: I fucking used to love ninjas

Dan: Well I think you've trumped me though because mine was definitely

Dan: my garbage peel kids sort of came and went and they're still around now.

Dan: They still make

Dan: garbage

Dan: peel kids, but ninjas

Dan: really

Dan: got

Dan: under

Dan: everyone's skin to the point that they're just part of pop culture now, aren't they?

Gav: Yeah.

Dan: You know.

Dan: People disappear in clouds of smoke all the time in movies

Dan: You know, it's just it is what it is really.

Dan: Ninjas.

Gav: Ninjas

Gav: is just fucking cool.

Dan: Marvel needs a good ninja

Dan: character.

Dan: They've got a good couple of martial arts people, but they need a good ninja character.

Gav: They could do that, couldn't they?

Dan: Yeah, they

Dan: need a good ninja.

Dan: That would represent the Japanese

Dan: um

Dan: market as well.

Gav: They need

Gav: us coming there

Gav: and just

Gav: make

Gav: them a ninja

Gav: ninja

Gav: movie.

Dan: Oh, I'd love to make a ninja movie.

Dan: We

Dan: all used to play ninjas

Dan: at school.

Dan: You know, was that

Dan: I tell you what

Dan: something

Dan: I'm just thinking about things that were big in the 80s.

Dan: Was there a ninja wrestler in WWF?

Gav: I

Gav: think so.

Dan: There must have been.

Dan: Someone must have

Dan: there

Dan: was

Dan: Ricky the

Dan: Ricky the Dragon steamboat.

Dan: He was like a martial arts guy.

Dan: Hang on.

Dan: Ninja

Dan: WF.

Dan: I'm just doing my research now.

Gav: I don't think there was.

Dan: Uh

Dan: there

Dan: was one masked

Dan: Okay.

Dan: There was one called Super Ninja

Dan: in the WWF.

Dan: That was his name.

Dan: Super Ninja.

Dan: Um

Gav: Su

Gav: I'm just

Gav: Ninja's of course

Gav: his bombers Super Ninja.

Dan: Um

Dan: he

Dan: only appeared a couple of times in 1988.

Dan: And there was a female wrestler called

Dan: she was called The Black Ninja.

Dan: And

Dan: she

Dan: only

Dan: appeared a couple of times in the late nineties.

Dan: So there was a couple of ninjas in WWF, but

Dan: not much else.

Gav: Alright, well, thank you everybody for today.

Gav: That was uh uh

Gav: Ninjas.

Dan: I'm just gonna disappear now

Dan: in a cloud of smoke.

Dan: Phew

Gav: And we're back.

Dan: We're back again to say goodbye.

Gav: Goodbye.

Gav: Um

Gav: we're gonna say some stuff.

Gav: Thanks for coming on and listening to us as normal.

Gav: Um just well

Gav: remembered it a moment ago off

Gav: um

Gav: next year randomly there's a new Blair

Gav: Witch project movie

Gav: out.

Gav: Um

Gav: I think with

Gav: the two main guys from the Blair

Gav: Rich

Gav: original movie are

Gav: in it.

Gav: They must have sorted out their

Gav: financial.

Gav: Yes.

Gav: Uh they

Gav: I think they

Gav: must have sorted out the financial situation as a whole.

Gav: thing.

Gav: Um

Gav: but the lady um

Gav: is not in it.

Gav: Um

Gav: I think she grows weed nowadays.

Dan: Heather.

Gav: Um uh

Gav: but just

Gav: randomly I just

Gav: thought I mentioned I didn't know people knew that.

Gav: Um I think there's actually a little sneaky trade on you.

Gav: that already

Gav: for

Dan: interesting

Dan: well

Dan: talking of such things

Dan: I also forgot to mention in our intro

Dan: I'll mention it now

Dan: there is a teaser

Dan: online

Dan: for Gremlins 3 if you haven't already seen it

Dan: and

Dan: And everybody's really worried about it because we live in a world of AI and CGI, but apparently

Dan: CGI is completely banned from this film and it would

Dan: all be puppets.

Gav: Yeah, I was gonna say you've got old school filmmakers making this.

Gav: Do you know what I mean?

Dan: Is it done?

Dan: Okay.

Gav: I'm not sure who

Gav: actually

Gav: directed it, but I do know you've got like

Gav: Spielbergs who've

Gav: involved in the production of it.

Gav: And

Gav: um

Gav: uh

Gav: Udi

Gav: Baduji, uh

Gav: who made

Gav: Christopher Columbus.

Gav: I think he may be

Gav: directing it.

Dan: Well, look, I'm

Dan: uh

Dan: I am a bit worried

Dan: because it's been a long time since the first two Gremlins

Dan: movies.

Dan: But

Dan: um

Dan: the first one especially is

Dan: to see what the Gremlins

Gav: are up to again though, wouldn't it?

Gav: I mean

Dan: I mean they are great.

Dan: We all have a gremlin.

Gav: Exactly.

Gav: Gremlin

Gav: can go back.

Dan: I'll tell you why they've done it, I'll tell you what

Dan: one of the reasons

Dan: this is what worries me, is

Dan: merchandising.

Dan: there's gonna be gizmos

Dan: everywhere

Dan: because he's cute he looks a bit like Grogu

Dan: they're gonna be selling that because

Dan: he was fucking everywhere

Dan: in the in the 80s

Dan: him and ET

Dan: were

Dan: everywhere in the 80s

Dan: I that I

Dan: never even seen the gremlins and my dad

Dan: came home from a shop and he bought a three

Dan: a three

Dan: pack of um

Dan: gremlins figures for me.

Dan: He's like, oh I thought you

Dan: liked these and it was mo

Dan: Mogwai, Gizmo and the two big green ones.

Dan: I didn't know what they were

Dan: And then one day my uncle had it on Beatamax

Dan: and he lent us his Betamax player and he said

Dan: here you go, here's

Dan: Gremlin to me but obviously it terrified me.

Dan: I was about eight years old.

Dan: Yeah, it made me

Dan: sick

Gav: and I watched it.

Dan: They were everywhere, so I am a bit worried.

Dan: they're doing it for the merch

Dan: but

Dan: fingers crossed it'll be

Dan: it'll be cool.

Gav: I did pick up part two

Gav: on VHS last week.

Gav: I picked up

Gav: spent quite a lot of money on some not many VHS and got home to find out a few

Gav: quite a few of them were moldy.

Gav: So

Gav: So I actually picked up a spare video player yesterday and I've been forwards and rewinding the tapes and that and it's gonna be my mouldy video player.

Gav: And then it cleaned up a little bit.

Gav: It

Gav: cleaned up a bit.

Gav: So

Dan: Jaw's

Dan: you mm

Dan: Yeah, was there another movie you were going to mention?

Dan: Um, because we mentioned Gremlins

Dan: 3, Blair

Dan: Witch, I'm sure there was another one we just quickly mentioned off

Dan: air, but maybe not.

Dan: Maybe that was that.

Gav: I don't know.

Gav: No.

Dan: Alright.

Dan: Well, thank you everybody again, especially to our

Dan: and Holly uh for picking and selecting uh

Dan: watcher

Dan: in the woods.

Dan: It's great to watch that again.

Gav: Holly, yes.

Dan: We'll be back

Dan: for

Dan: episode 192, which will be

Dan: our

Dan: Halloween

Dan: special.

Dan: Yes, after after many months of not delivering anything to you guys, we are delivering two in the same month

Dan: So

Dan: episode 192, Gav, it's his pick.

Dan: Gav, what have you selected for us to review for?

Gav: It's a heavy hitter which we've never actually uh talked about before, but we're covering Hellraiser

Gav: The original Hellraiser.

Gav: We've not talked about it and it seems like an appropriate one for Halloween.

Gav: So that'd be

Gav: a little bit more than a little bit.

Gav: I'm hoping possibly to have a conversation with someone.

Gav: from

Gav: the movie as well.

Gav: But we will see.

Gav: It might not happen.

Gav: We will see.

Dan: But

Dan: every now and again we realise

Dan: we there's still quite a lot of heavy

Dan: interests we haven't covered.

Dan: Much like when we did Return of the Living Dead, things like that, it's unbelievable we haven't covered these movies.

Dan: So yeah, it's gonna be a really fun discussion

Dan: because

Dan: We make a lot of sticky Frank comments as it is anyway, and that movie is

Dan: sticky Frank himself, you know, so

Gav: fantastic film.

Dan: It's great

Dan: And

Dan: it's a bit saucy, sexy, gross.

Dan: I really

Gav: like

Gav: being the age I am now, and the way I look at life now and the clarity I have

Gav: and

Gav: uh maturity or whatever you want us to call it.

Gav: Um

Gav: and look at films now and see them

Gav: now

Gav: as opposed to when I first watched them

Gav: 'cause I watched that when I was a teenager.

Gav: You know

Gav: So it's cool to see that now and be

Gav: like look at it and go, oh, and last time I watched it I was like

Gav: this is such a good film.

Gav: It's well

Gav: so well crafted and put together.

Gav: Brilliant

Dan: Yeah, I mean if I remember rightly the first two and maybe even the first three are are all good.

Dan: The first one is obviously the best.

Dan: Um

Dan: I do think they take a

Dan: steep dive off a cliff when you get to four and onwards.

Dan: Uh

Gav: however I

Gav: I hear

Dan: the remake is quite good.

Dan: I heard the reboot or remake was perfect.

Dan: Yeah, I need to check it out.

Dan: So that will be our next episode.

Dan: It will be our Halloween special.

Dan: We'll really get into a deep dive of our thirty-one

Dan: days of horror

Dan: wherever

Dan: we're at at that point,

Dan: um we'll

Dan: we'll have a real celebration of Halloween and we'll talk about Hellraiser.

Dan: Um

Dan: after that

Dan: It's most likely going to be my pick.

Dan: Um, episode 193.

Dan: If everything goes to plan,

Dan: should be me

Dan: selecting

Dan: Jason Goes to Hell the Final Friday

Dan: Because we haven't covered a Jason movie this year.

Dan: We usually do cover one every summer and I wanted to squeeze one in before the year is out.

Dan: And I think after that will be our

Dan: I think after that will be our Christmas special.

Dan: But we will keep that under

Dan: Wraps, as they say, for now.

Dan: Because we haven't quite decided.

Gav: Christmas wraps.

Dan: Christmas raps.

Dan: Not run

Gav: DMC.

Dan: Right,

Dan: run

Dan: DMC babies.

Gav: Christmas in

Gav: Hollands.

Gav: That's some

Gav: Christmas wraps.

Dan: So that's what's coming up.

Dan: Thanks again to Holly.

Dan: Thanks again to everybody as I said in the intro

Dan: for sticking with us through a very strange and turbulent year.

Dan: with not a lot of output from us.

Dan: Gav

Dan: has been begging me like literally

Dan: like

Dan: Dan

Dan: let's record down

Dan: just let's record and I'm just like

Dan: I want to

Dan: but I can't do it.

Dan: But now I'm doing it and it's been brilliant.

Dan: And I've really enjoyed this.

Gav: Good.

Dan: Good to get back in the saddle.

Dan: So all that remains for us to do is our usual good

Gav: housekeeping and then we

Dan: then we can s

Dan: and

Gav: get out of here.

Gav: Indeed.

Dan: Okay.

Dan: Well there is one thing I need to

Dan: pull

Dan: up.

Dan: As they say, which I again I'm out of practice, so bear with me while I

Dan: pull

Dan: something up here.

Dan: Just talk amongst yourselves while I do this.

Gav: I've got nothing to talk about, so I I

Gav: talk to you, don't I?

Gav: So

Gav: but yes, thank you very much.

Gav: Thanks everybody for uh coming along and again to listen to

Gav: us and I do appreciate you

Gav: And we

Gav: not being around, um, it's lovely that you could kill

Gav: all

Gav: still

Gav: stay

Gav: subscribed to us.

Gav: And if you've made it as far.

Dan: Subscribed

Dan: unprescribed.

Gav: Prescribed to us, yes, pr

Gav: uh

Gav: doctor

Gav: the doctor has prescribed the podcast on Haunted Hill to you

Gav: twice daily, once in the morning, once in the evening, and we're uh

Gav: we're uh

Gav: suppository.

Dan: And you

Dan: could take it orally oranially.

Dan: Um

Dan: okay, so we are the podcast on Haunted Hill.

Dan: We have been, weirdly, for 13 years this very day.

Dan: We have always been and will always hopefully be a prior member of Legion Podcasts Network, which is the network which

Dan: our show and many other shows

Dan: publish

Dan: through.

Dan: We're also linked with Deadbolt

Dan: Media, which I'll get more into in a moment.

Dan: You can find out more about Legion Podcasts if you goto legionpodcasts.com

Dan: LegionPodcasts.com

Dan: That's where you can find all of our shows that we've ever done over the last 13 years

Dan: and all the other um shows that are on there and all of their episodes as well

Dan: You can email us directly at

Dan: our email addresses, the podcast on hauntedhill at

Dan: outlook.

Dan: com.

Dan: If you ever want to ask any questions or

Dan: become a

Dan: Patreon or do any of the other stuff

Dan: just tell me I'm shit

Dan: or say

Dan: it wasn't worth coming back or say we missed you

Dan: any of these things.

Dan: Um

Dan: we are really active mostly on

Dan: Facebook

Dan: if you go to Facebook and search for the podcast on Haunted Hill, you will find our Facebook page.

Dan: This is the probably the best month to do it, because

Dan: October, our Facebook page is blowing up

Dan: because all of our listeners and followers and supporters

Dan: do

Dan: that

Dan: 31 challenge where they try to watch 31 horror movies or more

Dan: or listen to music that's horror related

Dan: or play board games or

Gav: most active

Dan: video

Dan: games

Dan: Yeah, it's just a lot of fun um over the October period.

Dan: I really enjoy seeing what everybody's watching.

Dan: Um

Dan: Legion podcasts also have their own Facebook page as well, so again

Dan: go there

Dan: and

Dan: There's lots of good fun having on there from the other shows as well as us.

Dan: We post on there too.

Dan: Wherever you're listening to us now is where you can continue to listen to us.

Dan: We're on most podcast platforms.

Dan: Spotify, YouTube, uh

Dan: Podbean, PodKnife, Podcast Addict, etc.

Dan: etc.

Dan: And we are on Instagram, which we mainly use just to promote the show, with a link to each episode and a little collage

Dan: of what we've

Dan: discussed in that episode.

Dan: Our handle

Dan: there is the podcast on Haunted Hill Insta.

Dan: Or one word, the podcast on Haunted Hill Insta.

Dan: As I've said, we're part of the Devil

Dan: Media Umbrella.

Dan: Deadbolt

Dan: Films

Dan: is our

Dan: production company

Dan: Um

Dan: we have a website which is deadboltfilms.

Dan: com.

Dan: We have a YouTube

Dan: channel, so just search for Deadbolt Films

Dan: on YouTube.

Dan: Is

Dan: your um video

Dan: shop

Dan: part

Dan: of that?

Gav: No, it

Gav: 's not

Gav: it's not part of Deadborough Street.

Dan: Separate entity.

Gav: Absolutely separate.

Gav: Yeah Dan

Gav: uh Ben said why don't you put the videos up on Deadbot?

Gav: And I was like

Gav: but then it's not the U

Gav: it's not the video shop, it's Deadbot

Gav: so

Gav: I wanted to do it separately.

Dan: Yeah no that's fair enough.

Gav: Yeah, uh

Gav: you

Gav: know

Gav: if you find it because it's gonna have probably see

Gav: my picture of my face because there is another video

Gav: shop on YouTube

Gav: but it's like

Gav: uh

Gav: instructional videos for something

Dan: Oh

Dan: ,

Dan: straight

Dan: source thing.

Dan: Um

Gav: not what you're looking

Gav: this is not what you've come here for.

Dan: If you're wondering what DevOps Films does

Dan: Obviously

Dan: we make movies.

Dan: We we've made several feature and short movies, a couple of music videos along the way.

Dan: We

Dan: even dabble in comics.

Dan: Um

Dan: and

Dan: And on top of that, um

Dan: Gav

Dan: also has a show

Dan: um

Dan: which he doesn't really do anymore, but you keep saying it's gone away and it keeps popping its head back up, which is called

Gav: The High Strangers Podcast.

Gav: We've just had the hard

Gav: back

Gav: book of Eldritch

Gav: Lust, which is the first three uh uh

Gav: episodes of the

Gav: uh

Gav: the first three comics basically

Gav: compiled together as a book and it's very very well nicely put together.

Dan: It is

Dan: really, really well presented.

Dan: Nice hard

Dan: back

Dan: look at that

Dan: shiny.

Dan: Does it smell good

Dan: Does it smell good?

Gav: Yeah, it is pretty fresh and

Gav: something.

Dan: The fresh

Dan: the fresh ink is always fantastic.

Gav: Um uh

Gav: and um

Gav: thank you so much patrons for staying with us and

Gav: supporting us we

Gav: appreciate it immensely

Gav: honestly

Gav: really do

Gav: I keep saying Dan

Gav: so

Gav: we need to put more stuff out for the patrons

Gav: don't

Gav: worried for you guys but thank you for sticking with us I do appreciate it

Gav: Um

Gav: uh

Gav: Sarah and I are actually gonna be doing a Patreon episode soon for RAW, uh

Gav: the most dangerous movie ever made, and it is the most dangerous movie ever made, and a lot of people got hurt

Gav: um and it's about um

Gav: Tippee Hedrum

Gav: and uh

Gav: Melanie

Gav: Griffiths uh living with uh

Gav: lions and tigers

Gav: and

Dan: I've heard about this but

Dan: never seen it.

Gav: We watched it and it is just

Gav: it's anxiety for the whole thing.

Gav: The whole

Gav: time you're just like, oh my god, is that line about to rip

Gav: it you just don't know what's gonna happen, but it's

Gav: Anyway,

Gav: picked this up for a call

Gav: boot sale

Gav: the other day.

Gav: Just wanted to mention this very quickly.

Gav: I'll um

Gav: still pick up

Gav: brand new video tapes

Gav: because we

Gav: make

Gav: videotapes of the Deadbolt to

Gav: short films, blank video ones.

Gav: Um and look at these ones still sealed.

Gav: I don't know if I'm gonna open 'em because it's such a thing of beauty almost.

Gav: Because you're not

Gav: how many of these

Gav: can it see

Gav: nowadays?

Gav: But look

Gav: look at that though.

Gav: What is it though?

Dan: I used to get a two-pack or a three-pack in my stocking every year for Christmas.

Gav: I was trying to explain this to Elijah, but look at this one though.

Gav: How many minutes is that?

Dan: 240.

Gav: Imagine that on LP.

Gav: That's about nine movies on one tape.

Dan: Yeah.

Gav: That is I was thinking two

Gav: forty

Gav: as a kid if you got a two

Gav: forty

Gav: you'll be like

Gav: oh

Gav: my god that's amazing

Dan: Yep, you're definitely recordable.

Gav: So I don't

Dan: know.

Gav: It's actually

Gav: they've got curved edges and everything in it.

Gav: I don't know if I'm gonna open this

Gav: to we

Gav: I might just keep it

Gav: The

Gav: I said to the guy how much?

Gav: He went, three pounds

Gav: went, I gave it two

Gav: and

Gav: oh

Dan: Yeah, it looks too nice to open.

Dan: Well talking to patron

Dan: Finally, if you wish to support us in a monetary fashion

Dan: and you like what you hear, then you can become a patron supporter.

Dan: Just go to patron.

Dan: If you like what you see

Dan: and you like what you hear, um

Dan: just go to Patreon and search for the podcast on Haunted Hill.

Dan: If you can't find it, just message me either on Facebook Messenger or on the email address which I gave earlier, which is thepodcast on

Dan: haunted hill at outlook.

Dan: com.

Dan: If you become a patron

Dan: supporter,

Dan: for as little as a pound or a dollar a month, you will

Dan: have several benefits, one of which is a t-shirt sent out to you in the colour of your choice and the size of your choice

Dan: Wherever you live in the world, you'll also get your name read out at the end of every episode, and you'll get to be a

Dan: patron

Dan: which means

Dan: Every three episodes, one of our patrons gets to pick the film that we are reviewing.

Dan: Tell us if they want, tell us why they love it, why they want us to review it, what it means to them.

Dan: Um

Dan: so there's lots of benefits there and the other benefit being of course

Dan: is occasionally we put out bonus content exclusive only for our patron supporters which Gab and Sarah have been doing quite a lot uh over the last few months and I really appreciate that um

Dan: in my absence.

Dan: Um

Dan: and we often put our shows out a few days early as well, so

Dan: quite often we'll put a show out two or three days before it goes out to the rest of the world.

Dan: Just on our patrons only.

Gav: Uh

Gav: Sarah and I quite enjoyed doing it actually, um uh because we're both quite the same.

Gav: Uh

Gav: if you've heard our podcast, you know what we're like, our

Gav: sense of humor.

Gav: So we quite enjoy watching these wacko

Gav: movies of the eighties

Gav: and uh

Gav: talking about them.

Gav: It's fun.

Dan: Indeed.

Dan: So

Dan: thank you to our patrons who I will now all read out by

Dan: read out all by name.

Dan: So thank you ever so much to

Dan: Dante.

Dan: Don

Dan: Collier, Matthew Godley, Kevin S.

Dan: Fife, Rachel, R.

Dan: Damon Creedy

Dan: and of course Holly who goes by

Dan: Lex Boo.

Dan: Thank you, Holly, and thank you all of you

Dan: for sticking with us through this past year.

Gav: I promise

Dan: we will be putting out more

Dan: shows.

Dan: Yes, we really love you guys.

Dan: We love you all though.

Dan: Thank you all listeners and supporters for

Dan: everything

Dan: and putting up with us

Dan: and

Dan: joining

Dan: the fun

Dan: on the Facebook

Dan: page

Dan: over

Dan: the October period

Dan: and

Dan: spooky season is here so

Gav: it is

Dan: the next this next time

Dan: next time we talk we will be in our full skeleton jackalanton at

Dan: uh outfits

Dan: Eating pumpkin pie.

Gav: Spermin in spooky stuff.

Gav: Spooling in

Gav: ectos

Gav: ectoplasm.

Dan: Ectosperm, you were gonna say then.

Gav: Almost.

Dan: So

Dan: in that case it's time for us to say goodnight.

Dan: So it's a good night.

Dan: From an interdimensional being

Gav: not be a ghost.

Gav: Might be a pervert.

Dan: Stolen that's stolen Betty Davies' daughter away.

Gav: A pervert

Gav: ghost in the woods watching you.

Gav: That's a good night from that person

Dan: And it's a good night from

Dan: Ninjas.

Dan: Uh

Dan: hiding under your bed.

Gav: You won't.

Gav: You can look under, you won't see it.

Dan: You will not see him.

Dan: All you'll feel is the nunchuck

Dan: hit you in the nose or the sword sliced your throat.

Dan: Oh

Gav: yeah.

Gav: Don't bend over.

Gav: You don't wanna

Gav: num

Gav: chuck

Gav: Or

Dan: Ninja Stars.

Dan: Ninja Stars.

Dan: There's ninjas in the new Spider-Man movie, by the way.

Gav: There we go.

Dan: Spider-Man brand new day.

Dan: He fights 20 ninjas

Dan: in a prison.

Dan: And

Dan: I

Dan: was just like, this is fucking cool.

Gav: I've not seen it yet.

Gav: I have to watch it.

Gav: Um

Gav: right, well, thank you very much people and we are out here and it's a good night for Dan, it's a good night for me, it's a good night from everybody else in the world.

Dan: And watch out for those ninjas in the woods.

Gav: Ninjas.

Gav: Good night.

Gav: Ninja.

Gav: Thank you for listening to the podcast on Haunted Hill.

Gav: We will be back again real

Gav: soon.

Gav: No

Gav: two
