Full show transcript:
Well, here's some big exciting news. I just got an email this morning. It is the first Christmas song of the season from a record label. Yes. No. And it is an instrumental from Joseph Fuller. It is the 10th anniversary remaster of Deck the Halls from Joseph Fuller.
They said, here's a new Christmas song. No. Here it is. It's a minute and 42 seconds long. Enjoy this piano, deck the halls from Joseph Fuller. It's happening. That's. I mean, it's the second of September. And they're like, here's your Christmas music.
I have there's already been people asking me when Christmas music is gonna start here on Classy.
Same time it starts every year. There's people already asking. The same time it starts every year.
You can listen to Christmas music. That's whenever you want.
You can listen on demand anytime you want. You can pull up a Christmas song and enjoy it.
You can get your bing on any time. What does that mean? Being crossed. Oh.
B-bing. I was I missed what you meant. I went, what? Because my head's not in Christmas yet. It's not even in Halloween yet. No, I know. I'm barely labored.
I know. Let me celebrate Labor Day.
Yeah, get off my back, Christmas. Seen people already posting pictures of Mariah Carey in the ice cube. I'm like, can we slow down? They call this uh holiday creep. Yep. And I don't care for it. Me neither. It's Labor Day. And we just stopped.
I went summer yesterday because I knew that they sold key lime pie. Yeah. And I was trying to celebrate a birthday of a woman who likes key lime pie. And I said, hey, I know that you sell key lime pie here. And she goes, that's a summer thing.
And this was the other day when it was still August.
It was still August. Yeah. And I said, I kind of fist I the punched the counter. Yeah, I was I said, it's still summer. And what did she say? She just looked at me. She went, Want a pumpkin pie? I'll take that Raspberry Pi, thank you.
I was gonna ask, what'd you end up doing? So when you didn't actually hit the counter.
I didn't hit the counter, but I did say it's still summer! Like that. Maybe not that aggressive. But I said, it's still summer, like that. That was more accurate.
We almost got the true full story, folks. We got so close to what actually happened.
I did. That was what actually.
I like that we had to work back from what you wish would have happened. It's still summer. Give me a key lime. Go make one now. But really what happened was it's still summer.
No, I did not. I said, it's still summer. And also raspberry pie. And then I went, you're acting a little bit crazy. And so then I said, I'll take a raspberry pie.
Thank you very much. How was the raspberry pie? It was delicious.
Yeah, good. And I told the woman who likes key lime pie. I said, I'm sorry, I did try to get you a key lime pie, but it's not my fault. You were born at the end of August. I think you can uh get
a frozen pie from the grocery store anytime you want. Not what I wanted. I'm just saying, you can have key lime pie year-round. If you just buy it. Marie calendars. That's the one. Sarah Lee. Nobody does it like her.
Nobody does like Sarah Lee.
No, it's not nobody doesn't like. It's No one does it like.
I know, I know, but you could do it. No, I know you can. It sounds the same.
Man, jingles are sticky with you. They get real in your head. And then you you see a Sarah Lee truck driving down the road. You have to sing bing. For sure. Yeah. That's a problem. That's it's excellent marketing on their part. Yeah, it is. Uh, your brain might be broke.
It's too bad that Sarah, not Sarah Lee, uh, Marie Calendars doesn't have a theme song. They might. Marie calendars. Oh, nice. Pay up.
You gotta pay her for that jingle. Marie. Let's start today's show. Right after lunch with a coworker. I felt very much like I was prepared for a nap. Okay. And I still feel that way. So I think uh the burger that I had for lunch has made me very tired. I'm blaming it on the burger.
The burger that you had for lunch yesterday.
Yeah, because I still feel like I want a nap. Okay. Ever since I had that burger. I'm like, I could have a nap. Yeah. And then like the rest of the day went on, and I was like, I should have a nap. And then I went to bed and had some sleep, but I'm awake now, feeling like I still could have a nap.
So I feel like I couldn't
have a big thing. It all started with that burger. It started when we turned about 40. Oh. And then it was like, yeah. I could use a nap every day. Is that what happened?
Yeah, ever since I turned 40.
Ever since I turned 30, I felt like I could have a nap. At 25, I was napping in the middle of the day. Yeah, you were. That's right. You were. So I mean, look, napping is uh something I could certainly be a big big big like proponent of? Yeah, whatever the right word is. You could be a big fan. Like if there was a napping competition, I might win. Because I can nap. And I can fall asleep like that. Yes, you can.
My problem with napping is that every time I try to take a nap, I will have nobody try to call me all day. And the second I lay down to take a nap, it's like, hey, a million texts. A million A million phone calls. I know. I that's that's the whole problem, isn't it? If you're gonna take a nap. But I'm always afraid that I'm gonna miss out on something.
Then Well, that then you're not gonna win the nap competition. I'm not. I don't mind. I'll catch up when I wake up. You don't hear him anyway.
You can sleep, you sleep like the dead.
I can fall asleep quick and I can ignore things while I'm asleep. Correct. So I'm saying I might win. It's a nice trait you have. I'm I'm gonna go.
It wasn't so great when we had babies. But now it's a good trait.
I mean, I could I bet I I could go lay in the back seat of my truck asleep. I could probably lay down on the floor here on a yoga mat asleep. Yeah, you could. I could probably uh you think I could do it in somebody else's office while they were working. I might try it. I'm just gonna cozy up here and take a nap real quick.
Do you remember years and years and years ago you fell asleep on your mom's couch? Yeah, and you were dead to the world. This was at least 10 years ago. And we started just putting garbage.
Yeah, you started stacking things on me. Yeah, we would just put like
just a bunch of garbage, not gross garbage, it was
a bigger one. No, it was like empty Gatorade bottles and candy wrappers.
Like in an attempt to see if you would wake up to any of those things, and we just kept putting garbage on you. Yeah, and then we did the old whipped cream trick.
Yeah, I remember that made me very cranky.
You got real mad. Right. Because you couldn't hear you got
whipped cream in your ear and you couldn't burst my eardrum. We didn't, though, did we? You might have. No. You're playing with my livelihood.
Oh jeez. That's what you said then.
It still stands true. Anyway. Moral of the story is Nap. I'm ready for a nap. I'm ready for a nap. Okay. Go take one. You've given me permission. You got two minutes.
Two minutes. Here's some good news. Uh, this is from a guy who owns a pizzeria in New York City and is making sure that uh none of his neighborhood is going hungry.
Okay. Daniel Romano, he is the owner of Di Romano's Pizza in the Bronx, and he started offering free slices after he saw a woman searching through the restaurant's trash for food. So he brought her inside and he gave her a fresh slice and told her that she never needed to be embarrassed to ask for help. Uh and the experience inspired him to put up a handwritten sign on the window that invites anyone who's hungry to come in for a free slice of pizza and a water.
And the message has resonated far beyond the Bronx. People from all across the country are calling to donate and help cover the cost of meals for those in need. And Romano says that his late mother used to always tell him that a desperate person will always make a better decision on a full stomach than on an empty one. And what began with one act of compassion has grown into a community effort, and Romano is hoping to remind people that everyone deserves not only a hot meal, but also dignity and kindness. Which I think is really really special. So uh way to go.
Daniel Romano, Di Romano's Pizza in the Bronx. You know, if you're interested in helping out, they're doing a really, really nice thing, making sure nobody is uh, you know, feeling below a sub, you know, a bar of humanity, and I think that's really really good. I think that's great too. So that's good news.
We took the morning show off yesterday so that we could be home to say goodbye to our daughter. She went to her first day of 11th grade.
I know. Crazy.
Yes, it's totally crazy. How do you think her day went? I didn't ever find out. Never heard a word. I don't think that it went very well.
I think it did. I think she probably had a good time. I think she like she has a bunch of new classes. She got to see friends and teachers. And like she was she was chiming in a little bit during the day, and then she kind of was like, by the end of it, she's like, I'm tired. And I go, Yeah, yeah. That's because you haven't had a full day of having to pay attention to anything in a few months. Yeah, I get it.
I came home and she was just asleep on her bed.
Yeah, no, she came home. She drove home, she got out of her car, she came into the house, she went right into her room and she laid down. She didn't say two words.
Just out. But she had sent uh a message saying that you know, she kind of her head hurt, she was tired, she was said a lot of bros. Bro. And I was like, I don't know what you think is gonna happen, but you gotta finish your day.
So I want to go home, bro.
I want to go home. Oh, bro.
We're already getting this on the first day.
It'll balance out. Let this week go by. We've got a long weekend. She's got like today and two other days. So it's a short week for her anyway. Yeah. Then we're off on Monday. She's got another short week after that. Then week three will settle in. And I think that's when we'll be like, okay, now the routine's back. It just takes a little bit of time and adjustment.
I don't think that she appreciated that I ran after her car as she was leaving. Why? Because she went real fast.
Well, no, I just think she was excited to get uh back to school. You're you're thinking she was running away from you. I think she was running away. Yeah, it's not true.
I don't think she was in a hurry to get back to school. Are you crazy? I think she was running away from me, driving away from me. I had promised myself that I was gonna wave to her as she drove out the driveway, and then I was gonna chase her car, waving goodbye, and I did all of that.
Yeah, I filmed part of it. You had the first person POV, and I had the third person POV from the front step watching you chase her. It was a good fun little video.
I sent it to my sister, my POV, and she goes, Oh, she hates you.
It's possible. Yeah, it's definitely possible.
Depending on the moment in time, she does.
How do you think she's feeling right now?
Right now she should be getting up and moving. That's what I'm saying. We should probably check in. But I meant emotionally about you. Uh yesterday was not so great of a day for us. So Okay.
So we'll see what lingers through today. Yeah. All right, that sounds good. Okay.
Well, uh I hope everyone has a great day of school today.
Enjoy more school. And good luck today. And be nice to your mom. Just do your best to stay awake. Pay attention and be a good friend. And be nice to your mom. And be nice to your mom.
We were laying in bed last night watching TV, and there was a commercial for Sonic that came on, and I said, Oh, I want some tots. And you said, We don't have any. And I got really sad. And then you said, Oh, but you know what we do have is those little hash brown patties. And then you said, Do you want me to go make some of those? And I said, No, it's 11:30. We should have been in bed an hour and a half ago. No, I'm going to bed. But I think you made them.
There was not a hash brown patty. What'd you make? Golden crowns. Oh.
I did not know that. I would have woken up. No.
You went to sleep.
I was fast asleep.
You were talking about tots and then out. That quick. It was, oh, those tots look amazing. Yeah, silence. And I went, what?
It was that cool. It's not like that. It was so quick. And I looked over and I said, Are you already asleep? And you went, uh-huh. And I went, okay. Because I saw you get up. You were like, I'm gonna go see if
I if we had a lot of people. I think your eyes were closed.
No, I saw you get out of bed. And then this morning I woke up and I go. Smells like tots. Somebody made some tots. Yeah. Golden crowns. Oh, no way.
Yeah. I wish you would have woken me up for some. There probably weren't enough, were there? There's still some in the freezer. Oh man. I really wanted those. I thought the only thing we had were those breakfast potato patties. Golden crowns. Man, I am bummed.
Well, don't fall asleep two seconds.
Don't make pots at 11:30.
Man, and they were pretty good. Assaulted them up. They were tasty. Why'd you dip them in? I didn't dip them in anything. You gotta dip them. No. I wasn't making a sauce. I don't have time for that. You just ketchup. Ugh! Yuck. Like you've never met me. Tots and ketchup. No, never. Ugh!
I've seen you dip your fries in ketchup before. One time. Oh no. It's been more than one time.
If there's not fry sauce available, then the fry can be dipped in ketchup.
Ketchup solo? No. No. Man, I am bummed.
Well, I'm not. I they were good. I wish that you had woken me up. You do?
Yeah, you could have just given me one little old crown. Sorry. I couldn't do I can't even believe you. You're just munching away, leaving me sleeping. Yeah, well, you fell asleep. Because I thought we had only breakfast patties. You should have said panties. You should have said, Chantel, we have golden crowns. And I would have said, I'm awake. Yeah, I would have. No. And now I'm mad at you.
Yeah, because I had golden crowns.
Yeah. You kept them all to yourself. How many did you make? I don't know. A handful. I didn't count.
I poured some in the air fryer, and what, like eight minutes later, I had golden crowns.
More than I like tots. I like golden crowns. You're wrong, but uh you are. Uh yeah. Tater tots top tier.
Golden crowns, very close. But tater tot top tier. There's nothing above the tater tot. The little oversized pencil eraser tater tot. That's top of the list. No, the golden card. When prep when prepared properly. There's there's a fine line between not done enough and overdone. Well, we're fighting. Because I had golden crowns and you didn't. Yeah.
Calm. You didn't even tell me. That's what's making me the most upset. You didn't even, you went out to make to make your You went to sleep Because I thought all we had was the breakfast patties. You should have said, oh, we do have a tot.
You were asleep. I left you to sleep. If I would have bugged you, you would have been upset about being bugged.
You should have just came in and said, Chantel. No. We have golden crowns. No. And I would have said, I want some. My eyes would have done the big. The big. Whoa. I want some. Just like five. And then I'll go back to bed. I'm so mad at you. Well. Sorry. No, we're fighting.
I had very late night golden crowns. And they were tasty. I hope you were lying in the kitchen. I wasn't. I brought them back into the room and ate them while I watched the show. You slept through it. It's not my fault. Even you could have just like
put it under my nose like a smelling salt. No. No, I'm not going to do that. Now I'm double mad.
Because I would have you would have woken up mad at me. I'm not doing that. Not if you had a crown. No.
Dude. Double mad. I thought you just kept him in the kitchen. No. You brought him in the bedroom. Yeah. Now I'm extra mad. You'll be okay. Because we were home yesterday for our daughter's first day of school.
I said, hey, do you want me to make you some breakfast? Right. That's a usual thing. Yeah. And she said, Yeah, I'd like a runny egg and some toast with jam. Right. And I went runny yolk in the egg. On top of top.
Toast with jam. Does she do butter and jam, or is it she does? Okay. Which you don't. No, I don't. Butter. You do butter and jam? Yes. I thought you didn't do that. If I'm having an if
I'm having an egg sandwich, no jam. Well, yeah. But she likes jam even on her egg sandwich. But if I'm toast, just toast. Yeah. Oh. I know. I know. But if I'm doing toast, butter, and jam. Always. Okay. Always. All right. What do you do? Just jam?
If I'm doing a jam, then yeah, or just butter, and then I'm good to go. Yeah. Or an English muffin. I like that better. I do not.
I'd rather have toast. Toast is so good. Better than an English muffin? A million times. No way. Toast is top tier. No, it is not. Yes, it is. English muffins are a no-go. I don't even like them at all. Period. Whoa.
Wow. Strong stance on English muffin. But okay. So you you uh I'm sitting in the kitchen watching this go down, and you were making an egg, and I'm gonna blame the spatula for all of your problems. And uh because you were using the rice cooker spatula. I love that spatula for the eggs. It it has is a terrible edge. It's gonna it's gonna break the egg every time.
No, it doesn't every time because I've has a terrible edge. I've made eggs before and used that spatula, and it hasn't broken the yolk all the time.
Well, it broke the yolk this time, and way more often than the way I do it.
Well, So she got a broken
so she didn't get a runny yoke. No. Because after you flipped it, you let it sit there too long and it cooked the yolk. You could have taken it out sooner. The egg was done. She could have had some of the runny yolk. You could have done another egg, I guess. But she said, I'll eat it, I'll eat it. Yeah.
And then we got that new pink Himalayan salt. Yeah. You know, a little of that goes a long way. Yeah. That's why I like it. So she was like, ooh, it's kind of salty. And then I made myself an egg. Yeah. And I went, oh, this is really salty.
Did you know a little goes a long way? Yeah.
So I can't even imagine her breakfast was no good yesterday. And now I feel bad. Was her toast okay? I think so.
Did you cut it in triangles or just slap it on a plate and go, here you go? I slapped it on a plate. She doesn't want triangles. Who doesn't want triangle toast? Me. Why?
Because I don't like triangle. I like a square toast. You know what I like? Triangle muffin. Ew. Not ooh. Ew. English muffins are gross. No way. You don't like a biscuit because a biscuit's too dry. But guess what an English muffin is? Too dry.
No, it's crispy and delicious. It has little cups that hold the butter. If you do the butter with the honey, delicious. If you do almond butter on it, great. You do biscoff butter, even better.
The only time I like an English muffin is if you slather it in Nutella.
I know other times you like English muffins. When? When it's in a sandwich.
No, I tolerate that because the rest of you guys like it. No. Underneath eggs Benedict. Yes. Never making that for you again. I do. Why? Because you hate it. But it's covered in.
I'm gonna, I'm gonna put it on toast because toast is top tier.
Not when it comes to eggs, Benedict. You're getting toast with yours. Okay, time out because I did forget that English muffins were an eggs benedict. But that's the only reason I like it there is because it's covered in Hollandaise. Josh, just make eggs Benedict for me. Uh-uh.
Never again. Or when I do, you get toast. Toast is top tier. I heard how much you hate English muffins. Never getting one again. I tolerate them. She says.
Yeah, they're not so good. They're so good. Bagel. Delicious. Toast. Delicious. Biscuit. Delicious. English muffin. Never again. I was having a conversation with our son last night because I've been I got a car symbol. And so I've been practicing drumming in the car.
Yeah. And there is a band uh named Kohheat and Cambria, and I really like their drummer. And so I've been listening to a lot of them to get some inspiration from the drummer. How's that going? And Beck told me that he is one of the most boring drummers. And I said, you're wrong.
It's exciting to you, the music that he plays. You like the drumming. That doesn't it doesn't mean he's a bad drummer.
No, or that he's boring. Right. And then Beck said, if I want to get some drumming influence, if I want to be inspired by a drummer, I should pick this person from a metal band that he likes. Yeah, I disagree. I also disagree. Because that's not your style. Nope.
So it's not going to resonate with you. And that's why you like the drumming that you're hearing that you go, I want to drum like that because you like those songs. Yes, correct. So you want to be able to drum those songs.
So we had a huge discussion last night about some of the best drummers. Yeah. Do you remember what he said? I uh he's naming people that I had never even heard of.
I totally get it. Because it's drummers in the bands he listens to.
Yeah, he's a big metal head, and I'm never gonna play that.
So look, here's a great drummer that I think we've completely missed, and that is Questlove from the roots. Oh, yeah. Phenomenal drummer. He can drum anything. Great drummer. Very, very good drummer. Yeah, yeah. And he's not been in any of our conversation. No, he hasn't. And Questlove is a very impressive drummer. Um Let's see.
I think you had the best drummer inspiration of all time last night when you said, do you even remember his name? Oh.
Are you talking about uh Duke? Duke LaRue. Duke LaRue is one of the greatest drummers of all time. If you don't know who Duke LaRue is, you need to go back to your childhood. Go ahead and look it up. It's D-O-O-K. Okay. L-A-R-U-E. Duke LaRue. Okay. And look him up.
Well, tell people who can't look him up who he is.
Duke LaRue's the drummer from uh from the band that performed at Showbiz Pizza.
He's an animatronics drummer.
That's right. He's the animatronic drummer in the band at Showbiz Pizza.
What was Showbiz Peace Pizza?
Well, it became Chuck E. Cheese. Okay. So if you remember the animatronic band. I do not remember. From back in the 80s.
We were too poor to go to Chuck E. Cheese.
We only went there like two or three times, and we went to Showbiz Pizza, not Chuck E. Cheese.
We were too poor to go to Showbiz Pizza.
It was in uh in Boise. And they also had a Pojo's, which was very good and had a nice arcade as well. Uh but anyway. were so rich. No. I had an uncle who lived there, so we'd go visit and we'd get to go. Like I said, twice, probably.
Twice. You went twice.
You are still. Really stuck out in my brain. According to Rolling Stone, here are your top five drummers according to Rolling Stone. Okay. Hal Blaine is listed at number five. Where's he from? Oh, you know who else they mention in here is uh Max Weinberg. Great drummer. Yeah. Great drummer. Yeah, he is. Uh hold on. Yeah. Use Hal Blaine. So he is the he's uh drummer for the Beach Boys. He drummed for Simon and Garfunkel.
I love the Beach Boys. Yep. Hal Blaine.
Neil Purt of Rush is number four.
He's been in conversations. But I don't like Rush. So I'm not gonna I'm not gonna take inspiration from him. Okay. Unless it's that Limelight song. That's the only Rush song I like. Living in the Limelight. That one? Yeah. Okay.
Ginger Baker is number three from Cream. Okay. Yeah. Nope. Okay. Okay. Uh, which means he was the drummer for Eric Clapton, if if you didn't catch up on that. I did. And Keith Moon is number two. Okay.
Keith Moon is from the Stones. No.
Uh yeah, that would be correct. I believe you are absolutely correct.
Um, and uh no, sorry, Keith Moon is the who.
He's the who. And John Bonham is number one, Led Zeppelin.
Yeah, and he John Bottom's been in lots of conversations.
Uh so that's gonna be Rolling Stones top five drummers. I knew two of those people. Right. Jimi Hendrix drummer was number eight.
I still think I'm gonna stick to Dave Grohl as my inspiration.
That's it. That's fine. That's a good pick.
And the guy from Coheat and Cambria. Number 14 on the list, Ringo Star. Telling you.
He's high up there because he didn't have to be flashy. He provided exactly what every song needed. And it and that is that says something. Good job, Ringo Star. He's a good drummer. Uh, when it comes to keeping time and just adding exactly what every song needed is perfect. Perfect. So are you gonna be in this list of uh I mean, this is a hundred greatest drummers of all time that the Rolling Stones put out. You want to be on this list? Yeah, Dave Girl's 27. Whoa.
He's way down on that list. I'm surprised by that. Well, he doesn't drum so much anymore, though. Well, true.
But he when he writes his songs,
but he does still write the drum part. Yeah, I know. So you know, he is a drummer.
Anyway, there's a whole list of them that you can look up.
The drummer for the band that I his name is Josh Eppard. There you go. So great name. Good news. Uh-huh. Yeah. Good luck on your drumming journey. Thank you. I've got a little bit of an update. What's that mean?
We went to Utah a few weeks ago. And I made a purchase. And I have been carrying around this purchase on my backpack. Yes. For several uh weeks. I would say.
Yeah. Um, and uh it is a laboo-boo. Uh it is a pink laboooboo. And if you saw the uh if you saw the video, I screwed up on the reveal. You did.
And according to our daughter, you messed up.
Because I looked at the little cardboard thing in the box that showed that it was gonna be a pink one, and I revealed it, bro.
How are you not supposed to know not to do that? I don't know.
I don't follow the unboxing videos of laboo boos, and so I I messed up. So I gotta give a little bit of a shout out to uh friend of the show, Jackson. Oh I was I was at Scouts on Monday, and I have the laboo boo hooked to my backpack. Uh-huh. And I've been carrying it around, hoping somebody would say something. Anything. Ask a question.
What's that thing hanging on your backpack? Now there are some some friends we have that uh, including Jackson's mom, who they listen to the show, they've heard the story about it, they knew that it existed, and they went, uh, oh yeah, there it is. Look at that. And that's a little different. Like they they knew about it. They knew that.
Yeah, they have prior information.
Well, I threw on my backpack getting ready to leave for the night, and I hear Jackson go, do you have a laboboo on your backpack? And I said, Yes, I do. And I was so excited, and he was like, You gotta get that thing off of there. He was embarrassed for me to have a labooboo on my backpack.
And I don't know if it was because it's pink or if it's because it's a labo-boo, but it was enough for him to go, you really gotta you you gotta make a change.
I think it's just because it's old. Like that trend is.
It is out of style, except for me. I feel very trendy with my laboooboo on my backpack. And I'm kind of digging that it's on my backpack. I was gonna hang it in the truck, which I think I probably eventually will, but I kind of like that it's hooked on my backpack and I get to carry it around like a lucky rabbit's foot. Kind of a fun little thing.
I just think it's funny that you you were looking for one for a while when the trend was hot, but they were overpriced.
Yeah, I wasn't gonna pay like 40 or 50 dollars for a little tiny laboo boo.
Has kind of died. You got it at a decent price. Right. So you bought one. Yeah. And now everyone's like, way late to the game, grandpa. Yes.
Grandpa's got a pink labo-boo. And also, I'm not a grandpa. So there's that. Old enough to be one. That is true. Old enough to be a grandpa, but glad I'm not yet. Uh unlike you know, people around me. I know. My cousin, your sister. I know. Well, she is old. Way older than you.
So much older than me. She's like seven years older than me. It's crazy. She is old. Yeah. Good. She is my older sister. Yeah.
Anyway, I was so excited that somebody noticed and called out my laboo boo. I love that. I went, yes.
And I love that it was Jackson. I know. Good old J Dog. Yep.
Good old J Dog for sure. He he went ahead and pointed out that I'm carrying around a laboo boo.
And you need to get it off immediately.
Yeah, you you need to not have that. That needs to go away. You lost so many points. I think I might have gained a few.
I don't think so.
I think you I felt like I gained points. You lost Aura. Mmm. Did I? Did I ever?
You said a minute ago, you go, we're having tomato soup for dinner. In a sad, depressed kind of way. Yeah. And I said, Yeah, we are. Yeah. It comes with cheesy bread. Oh boy. Well boy. I'm excited for tomato soup.
Are you crazy? Kick off. We're in September. This is soup season. We're in soup season.
I'm excited for it. Now you have food rules where you the soup doesn't count as a meal unless it comes with something a little bit heartier. So tomato soup by itself isn't necessarily what you would call a meal. But guess what, Josh? What? It has sausage in it.
Is this the creamy potato soup with pork sausage? Is that what I'm looking for?
Tomato. You said potato.
I meant uh it would be better if it was potato. Creamy tomato soup with pork sausage. Is that the recipe? Yes. With the cheesy bread on the side. Yes. Mmm. Doesn't it look nice? I'm looking at what I'm what I'm gonna have to make here. Okay.
If you want, we could also throw in some pasta. Like we could throw in some tortellini or some ravioli. No. Ravi might be too big, but tortellini would be.
I mean, it looks like a nice creamy soup. I don't know that I I mean I could throw bow tie in this and it would be fine.
Yeah, if you want. I think it's fine by itself, but you do you, boo.
Consider adding diced onions, garlic, or other veggies. Some enjoyed it with pasta or beans for extra hardiness.
That's what I'm saying. You could throw in some beans. We could throw them.
Not throwing in beans. Why? Why would I throw in beans? Why do you want to make tomato soup worse? Do you not like tomato soup? Sometimes.
Are you saying that you are not excited about tonight's dinner?
The cheesy bread is a hit, though. Some suggest adding garlic or butter for more flavor. I'm gonna have to modify this recipe to make it not just soup.
I love soup. Bro, do you yeah, it's soup season.
Here uh was a category in eight seconds to win was things that are round. I would totally accept soup. Things that are round? Yes. How is soup round? Soup has to be round. If you put soup in a square bowl, that's wrong. Isn't it? Soup is round.
Soup is no, you can't contain it. Yes, you can.
No, it's you literally put it in a bowl. It's how you contain it. It's liquid. But I'm saying it's gotta be in a round bowl. You put it in a round pot and then you put it in your round bowl and you eat it with your round spoon. Soup is round. It doesn't have to be, though. I would argue cereal is also round. That's So weird. Why are you the way that you are? What shape is cereal?
You can't put a shape on liquid.
You can. It takes on the liquid of whatever it takes on the shape of whatever uh container you put it in. Soup is round. It has to be.
I don't think it has a shape because it is liquid. Um, but also because you could put it in a cylinder and then it's a cylinder shape. Why would you To annoy you?
The only The only acceptable cylinder for soup is the can you dump it out of. After that, it's round.
I'm excited for tomato soup, so I don't think anything needs to be added. Least of all beans. Don't put beans in it. But I could, and it would still be delicious. No. If you put some black beans in there, no.
What is wrong with that? I like black beans. I know. Why do you want to ruin what's already not great? Gonna be ruined.
Anyway, tomato soup for dinner. All right. At the Tielor household.
With pork sausage and cheesy bread on the side. See?
Delicious. Substance. What a treat. So Monday night.
Uh we were planning on having just a simple dinner, just making some hot dogs on the grill. Uh, some brats. And I said, uh, I've I've got my scout meeting, and you guys are probably gonna be hungry before I get home. So I said, hey, if you need me to kind of walk you through how to start the Blackstone, I can I can tell you. And you said, I think you've shown me before, but tell me again, please.
So I said, All right, here's the deal. Remove the cover, uh, make sure the propane tank's turned on, turn the leftmost knob to high, push the little igniter thing because you don't need all four burners, so just turn the one on the left. Uh, you know, let it heat up, turn the heat down to like a medium, slap the hot dogs on there, roll them around until they're ready to eat, bada bang, you got dinner, right? Right. And then it I remembered a few minutes after I had sent that, I went, oh, I forgot that there's the silicone mat on there. And so I said, hey, you you should probably remove that. And you said, duh. I'm not an idiot. Well, listen, I didn't think you were, but I also was thinking like I didn't say open the lid, take off the rubber mat, all of those steps.
Step by step instructions.
I just I forgot about that. I said, take off the cover, and then I said, turn on the knob and light it, which could easily have turned into, well, I did that. But I didn't oh I didn't open the lid until I was ready to put hot dogs on it, and then silicone mat was still in there.
So I went, I better say something about the mat, because you might forget or not think about it. Okay. And so uh I said, oh yeah, and you just said one word. You just said duh. Like, no kidding. Okay. My bad. So then I'm getting pictures and videos of you guys cooking in the rain on the blackstone.
I asked the kids how many they each wanted, and I cooked, I cooked a couple of dogs for me and the kids, and we ate. And then Emory said, I think I kind of want another one, but I'll do it.
If you show me what to do, I'll do I'll do it. So as she was cooking, she started to get rained on. So I brought her an umbrella Oh, that's nice. she was cooking. I didn't see the umbrella. She was cooking in the rain. Oh, that's hilarious. That's great.
Cooking in the rain with an umbrella. That'll work. But she was worried, like, can you use it in the rain?
Yeah, she was I go, yeah, you're gonna be fine.
I put water on it to clean it. Like it's it's okay. Like, it can get wet. Plus, when it's all hot, it's just gonna evaporate the water right away.
Yeah, so there we were, and then you came home and you started to. Yeah, and then I had to cook. Cook yours in the rain. So sorry about that. Yeah. But you were cooking.
Emory did some cooking. Now she wants me to teach her how to make steak. She said, you gotta teach me how to make steak bites on there. I went, oh, okay. Sounds like a Yeah, because she just wants to be able to make steak whenever she wants.
Yeah.
Her paycheck's gonna go to beef, is what's gonna happen. Because you know, steak's expensive.
I don't know if you know. you know that. Beef prices are insane right now. Ridiculous. Don't even get any. You're gonna have to get a chicken steak. Chicken steak. Chicken fried steak. Well, chicken fried steak is still beef.
It's just hit with a hammer a lot.
Why do they call it chicken fried steak then?
Because the way they cook it. They bread it and they fry it, like the way you fry chicken. Okay. Interesting.
Who decided that? Um, a diner.
And then they said the only way this is gonna taste good is if we cover it in gravy. Yeah.
It's called that because it's using the exact same breading and cooking technique used for fried chicken.
That's weird. It's like exactly what I just said. Strange that you had to Google that because you didn't believe me.
No, I did believe you. I just thought maybe it was something else.
No, it's because they take that weird cube steak and then they bread it with like an egg.
It's a beef cutlet.
It's they hammer it and turn it into a cube steak.
My mom, anywhere there's a chicken fried steak. She's like, I'll have that.
Like it's a terrible piece of meat that they had to cover with egg and breading and flour and then cover with wet flour with pepper in it to make it so you could eat it. They had to hide the meat in a bunch of flour fried and then wet flour.
I like that you call it gravy wet flour. That's what it is. It is what it is. It's wet flour.
It's a bunch of pan scrapings and wet flour. That's what you get.
We cook this steak in this pan, and now we've got all these bits. What should we do with them? Add flour to it. See what happens. Oh, now if I water that down, bada bing, pour it over the meat I cooked in there.
Call it something French, like a roux. Gravy. No.
Yeah, the ruse which you before you water it down. Anyway, we know. Let's just cooking. That's just cooking. You know? Wet flour. So anyway, uh well done.
Oh, cooking a hot dog thing.
Cooking the hot dogs on the black stone. Thanks. That was wow. Big day. Quite an achievement. I was proud of you guys. Well, I've got a new game, and I don't know if uh our daughter's a fan. Um I I know she's not a fan. I don't know if our son is a fan, is what I'm trying to say.
I haven't necessarily played the new game around or directly with him, but I know our daughter doesn't like it. And it's when I say they have a hot mom. And it's uh it's one of my favorites. She sent a picture to me of you grilling. And I said, You've got a hot mom. And she does not like it.
What did she say? Uh like stop. Well, she doesn't like when we show any kind of affection. I know.
I'm trying to see if I can find where that was. Okay. Uh it's not in that one. Why do I have so many group chats? Like, it's crazy. It's just crazy.
Yeah. You said uh she sent me pictures and said, look at this cutie cooking on the grill. She's cooking. Get her an apron. And I said, You have a hot mom. And she did not reply. Nothing. So it's kind of my new fun game.
Well, the our son never replies. He never responds to anything. Right. So he's never gonna, he probably doesn't even read anything. I'm sure he doesn't.
But I say it in person. I said it over text. I I need to like be around him when I say it. Like, dude, you're gonna hot mom.
He'll just walk away. Probably. Just be like, okay. Okay, cool for you. Whatever, weirdo. Yeah.
But our daughter is like, ugh, yuck. Quit it. Yeah. Leave it, she says. Like, okay.
Yeah, we're sometimes she wanders in the kitchen and we're just hugging in the kitchen.
We'll have a hug, or we better we'll do a dance or whatever. Leave it. Yeah. She's like, you two, ugh. Yuck. Like, you have a hot mom. I don't know what to say. You guys are sick. Okay. Anyway, that's a fun game if you want to play. Uh, just go ahead and uh lay on heavy compliments.
To your to your kid's mom. It works for your the like you too, because if you're walking to the car or something and we're waiting in the car, I'm like, look how cute he is. Yeah. And she goes, that's what I always get.
Well sorry, I like your mom. She's cute. So deal with it. It's a fun game. Try it at home. The kids will hate it.
They will hate it, but I like it. I like when the kids hate stuff. Sometimes it can be fun. It's an easy bit.
You get to pay a compliment and you get to make your kids go, ugh, yuck. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather spend a rainy September day reading a book inside or walking through the woods? Uh in the rain. Yeah. Both are in the rain. Correct.
So I do I stay inside and read a book in the rain, or do I go through a walk in the woods? In the rain. Yeah, that.
You'd rather go for a walk through the woods in the rain. Yeah, I'd rather be outside. It's still September.
Yeah, going outside.
I'm saying, why can't I do both?
You can take your book into the rain.
There's a lot of time during the day, so I would like to take a short walk through the woods.
It's not raining all day. It's only raining for a short period of time during your walk or during your reading time. How much rain? Is it pouring? Some. This is your game. I don't know.
Because I'd like to take a walk through the woods. Yeah, with your ranger. But just like a nice sprinkle. I don't want it to be pouring rain. It's nice. But if it's pouring rain, then yeah, I'm gonna be inside with a book and a cup of tea by the window. Yep. So that's my answer. Yeah, I knew you'd take the book. I no, I picked them both. If it's a sprinkle, it's a walk through the woods.
It's the same rain. It's the same rain either way, but it only lasts for the duration of your activity. So you can't have both. I can. It's my game. Nope. Nope. Listen, you're already dreading. Whoa.
water. No. I mean, kind of. You're already there it is. Why am I on thin ice? Because you had tater tots without me last night.
Are you still hanging on to that? Yes. Would you rather this or that? Okay, this is kind of exciting and also kind of gross and a little bit creepy. But there is a newly discovered uh spider species in Idaho. Whoa. Uh and you're thinking to yourself, how are we finding new things all the time?
Yeah. Well, and that's because we haven't really discovered that much. Like we have discovered a lot, but there's a lot of places that we just haven't been. And uh there are little tiny insects and creatures and things that live in the places that we haven't fully discovered, and that's kind of what happened in northern Idaho. So University of Idaho researchers discovered a new spider species they have dubbed the Hexura Vandal spider.
Of course they named it the Vandal Spider. Right.
Of course, right? Uh so Chris Hamilton, who's an associate professor in the Department of Entomology, plant pathology, and nematology, and then a student named Arne Arno uh holy cow, I'm gonna murder this last name.
Calatayata Mascarel. Yeah, you That's pretty close. Anyway, they've they uh they kind of discovered this thing while they were out doing some entomology studies, and they they were like, We have never seen this spider before. Um and so they were able to confirm it is uh it is a sort of from the same group as like trapdoor spiders and some of the Australian funnel web spiders. Um It's kind of an it's it's it is ugly. Yeah, it's a creepy looking dude.
Ugh. But it's very specific to a certain area in northern Idaho, like it's not all over the place, but um they spent after they found the one, they spent another two hours searching the campground um and they said, I think we found Hexura Vandal. Um they're like, no way. And so then they were able to confirm it is a new isolated North Idaho species of spider, and it's only there. It is endemic to northern Idaho, which means it is only present in one graphic location, like geographic location.
They said I was just looking at this article that they have on it, and they said Idaho currently has no state spider.
Yeah, this one may become the state spider. That is correct.
Oh, I don't like it.
He's a creepy little guy. He is a creepy little dude. Uh, but the the Hexura Vandal spider is uh a brand new spider species. Great. In Idaho. Great. Yes, ew. If you if you're a little arachnophobic, don't go look at it.
Yeah, it's not it's not cute. It's a spider, it's a spider, and uh it's got like a shiny little yeah, I don't know, the
the head body part, the head body super like a
helmet is shiny, but then his bottom body part is
like the thorax, he has a fuzzy thorax abdomen thing, yeah. With little things poking out the end whereas webs come out.
Listen, and I like bugs. I I think bugs serve a purpose in our in our uh biosphere in our ecosystem, thank you. Okay, couldn't think of the word. I don't ever want to study entomology, and it's just not for me.
So I'm appreciative of some entomology, but mine's all like fish bugs. That's true.
You do have fish bug entomology, that's right. Research.
But I don't I don't want to study arachnids. No, thank you. Not don't go indeed.
And they searched, they were searching, searching, searching, yeah.
They were specifically looking for spiders. Like, oh boy.
Listen, everybody's got a thing they're passionate about. Sure. They were super stoked about it.
Well, they discovered a new species, so paid off the vandal. Good job, guys.
Good keep it in northern Idaho, would you? Yeah, I don't like it. Uh all right, that's gonna wrap up the show on that creepy crawly note. Have a great rest of your Wednesday. We'll be back tomorrow. Uh tomorrow's an exciting day because it's the day before the fair kicks off, and every year the day before the fair kicks off, you and me get to go eat a bunch of food.
That's true. So I'm really looking forward to that tomorrow. Um, I'll probably skip breakfast.
Probably have soup for dinner to keep it light so that I'm prepared for tomorrow. And uh, and then you know, we'll we'll be able to share with you our favorites from uh what's new to fair at the fair. Uh yeah, it's a good day. I'm excited about it. Tomorrow. Uh and I uh can confirm 820. We will play eight seconds to win. Yes. At least at least once or twice.
I like that game. I think it's fun. I would just play that game all day.
