What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
Matthew 6:22-23 NASB2020
How do we make sure our eyes are clear? How do we focus on His light? How do we make sure others see our light? It all comes down to exuding light! If we allow darkness to penetrate and permeate our lives it clouds our purpose and our vision. However, if we are able to harness His light then the darkness ceases to exist. Therefore we must be vigilant by seeking God always. Have you ever turned out the light in your room and been in what seems like total darkness? If we focus on the darkness and start to walk we will run into things and injure ourselves. However if we pause, and look for the light, our eyes will adjust and we will see that there is enough ambient light to drive out the darkness so that we can walk without injuring ourselves.
God’s light is like that but exponentially more powerful. We become light by spending time with Him, in Prayer, in Fellowship, in Worship, and in Serving! We do those things that God has called us to do and the power of darkness has no power and the light will overcome the darkness.
If you need to read about God’s light in the darkness go to the Psalms. Here are just a few excerpts:
“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.”
Psalms 18:28 NIV
“The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.”
Psalms 27:1-2 NIV
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
Psalms 119:105
It is God and God alone who can keep the shield of light around us in the sea of darkness. The only way we keep the shield of light around us is to seek God and pray at all times!
Lord we thank you for your mighty and powerful and beautiful name that permeates light always and forever. You created the light when you said “LET THERE BE LIGHT!” Help us to gravitate towards Your perfect light, so that our eyes are clear and full of your perfect love. We pray all these things in Jesus Name Amen!
Shalom blessings and Press in and Press on!
