Good morning and

welcome to Morning Serial.

Okay good morning and

welcome to Tuesday everyone.

It is Veterans Day, formerly known as

Armitage Day, which

celebrated the end of World War

I.

But for some reason the world has also

seen fit to make today Singles Day.

So today is about honoring courage and

the sacrifice of our

soldiers and what they fought

for and are independent.

So thank you so much for your service.

And whether you wore the uniform or you

just braved those

dating apps, either way, you

deserve a little bit of a salute today.

Well speaking of bravery, here's a quote

from an actor that's

both played a World War II

vet and has been actively trying to stay

out of the singles

game, Leonardo DiCaprio,

he once said, "Only you

alone can change your situation.

Don't blame it on anything or anyone."

End quote.

Now this is a great reminder from Leo

that you have the power to

change your own circumstances.

Don't make excuses or hold others

responsible for your situation.

Okay, well let's jump

into today's nostalgia vault.

Today's news facts and birthdays are for

November 11th, starting back in 1918.

That's when we already mentioned it today

is Armatis Day, right?

And it's celebrating

the end of World War I.

But get this, unbelievably, World War I

saw 9 million soldiers

lose their life and 21

million more were injured.

Not to mention the estimated 5 million

civilians that died from disease or

starvation or exposure.

Yeah, I'd say the end of

the war was a celebration.

And on to happier losses here, okay?

Jumping up to 1946, that's when the New

York Knicks, they played

their very first basketball

association of America.

That's right, the BAA.

Well they played their first home game at

Madison Square Garden and they lost 78 to

68 to the Chicago Stags in overtime.

And finally in 1978, you guys might

remember this one, the Dukes of Hazzard.

Well it made TV history

with that car jump, right?

Well the jump, it

actually totaled the General Lee.

And it was the same jump that was seen in

the show's opening

credits from 1979 to 1975.

There were over 300 General Lees in the

shooting of that series.

All right, well happy birthday to you.

Today is your birthday.

You share a birthday

with musician John Baptiste.

He's 39 today.

Actor Stanley Tucci, he's 65 today.

Actress from Ghost, A Few Good Men, Demi

Moore, she's 63 today.

And Ally McBeal herself, actress Kalista

Flockhart, she's 61 years old.

Oh, oh, and you may

have heard of this guy.

He provides quotes for Morning Cereal,

Leonardo DiCaprio, he is

just 51 years old today.

All right.

Well now we turn to the number one song

on this date back in 1989.

And it was "When I See

You Smile" by Bad English.

Now this was the group's only number one

hit, which is surprising

as this was a super group

comprised of members from the bands of

The Babies and from Journey.

Well my hope for you is that you find the

one that when you see them smile, you can

face the world.

You can see rays of light and you can do

anything, as the song suggests.

Well from power ballads to personal

power, let's get into

our book review here.

And we are continuing our journey through

Mel Robbins, The Let Them Theory.

In today's chapter, it digs into

something we all feel,

but we rarely understand.

Emotion.

In the sub-chapter, do you

know what an emotion really is?

Well Robbins explains that

emotions aren't who we are.

They're data, right?

They're physical reactions that carry

information, not definitions of identity.

And as she puts it, "An

emotion is energy emotion.

It's not a verdict about your worth."

So she reminds us that our emotions are

our body's ways of

communicating, like a signal

flare from within.

Instead of fighting them or over

analyzing them, Robbins

says to pause and ask, "What

is this emotion trying to tell me?"

For instance, anger might reveal that a

boundary's been crossed.

Sadness might signal

loss or unmet expectations.

Even joy, fleeting as it

feels, it signals alignment.

She also makes the point that labeling

emotions can make them easier to manage.

Naming what you feel activates the

rational part of your

brain and it quiets that chaos.

Robbins calls this the "pause to power

method" and it's a quick

self-check before you react.

Now, the most liberating insight of this

section is the fact that

you don't have to fix every

emotion. Sometimes you just have to feel it,

breathe, and then let it pass.

The let them concept applies inward too.

Let your emotions exist without judgment.

Here is your Tuesday takeaway.

Those aren't warnings, they're wisdom.

Listen, but don't let them drive.

So today, make sure you think a veteran

and celebrate your

singlehood if that's where

you're at.

And take Leo's advice,

don't wait for life to change.

Grab the wheel.

All right, thanks for spending part of

your morning with Morning

Serial today and as always,
